Iphoto wont open after system upgrade and iLife install
I installed Leopard and reallized i had to also buy iLife because the old version of iphoto was not supported by the the new operating system. Installed iLife and everything works exept iphoto. It acts as though it is "loading library" and then a pop-up window shows up saying:
"The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iphoto. Your photo library will not be readable by previouse versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process may take several minutes depending on the number of photos in the library."
I have hit "upgrade". But it still does not open.
I have about 9000 photos saved on an external drive.
I have repaired permissions as well as trashed iphoto and re-installed.
I read similar posts and am tempted to create a new library with library photo manager but am affraid i will lose some of my pictures.
I should include that because I couldn't open after the os update, I went into the my photo folders through finder and added new pix that I needed to get off of my camera. I've sinced trashed those folders.
Any ideas?
THanks in advance.
xWelcome to the Apple Discussions. Thanks for the heads up on the out of date screenshot of BatChmod. It's been updated now. If all you your efforts to get your library updated and running fail you might try rebuilding the library with iPhoto Library Manager. It creates a new library based on the data in the AlbumData.xml file and leaves your current library untouched. Here's how that would work:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be untouched for further attempts at fixing or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard. -
New Iphoto wont open after yosemite update
Also posted in Iphoto for Mac Community
I'm working on a MacBook (2009) and upgraded to Yosemite, which went smoothly. I was prompted to upgrade iphoto so I went to the App Store and it downloaded, but it wont open. The application appears in the applications folder but when I double click, nothing happens. In the application folders it says it was created modified and last opened on Nov 12, but I have yet to open or use the application.
I've tried restarting the machine, with no change. I've restarted the App store with no change. When I check the purchases tab in the App store, or Launchpad, it says the download is "paused" for iphoto. I hit the "resume" button and nothing changes. One time it changed from "paused" to "waiting" It was "waiting" for several hours until the computer went to sleep, it went back to paused. Any ideas on what to try next to get iphoto to work?
thank you in advance!hi Dahveed
since installing yosemite my iphoto is also not working. When I want to update it it gives the following message..
"this update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled."
Please advise
thank you for your time -
HELP! ITunes wont open after Upgrade.
I upgraded the new version of ITunes our of stupidity and it ruined my life. Itunes now wont open. I have tried removing it and re-downloading. I have restarted it and tried everything possible that the support screens say. PLEASE HELP!
Well I don't know what "tried everything possible" means!
top fixes for a new iTunes install/upgrade are
- turning off security software such as Norton before the install as Apple suggests
- installing QuickTime standalone, not regular
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
- setting up Norton to allow iTunes
- scanning for malware with ewido (Free at www.ewido.net/en/)
- last but not least, using MSCONFIG to find Windows conflicts

ITunes wont open after upgrade install
Installed the upgrade for iTunes and now it wont open at all. Clicked on the icon, clicked long on the icon and chose open, and lastly tried to open from applications but I get nothing. Not even an error message. Just a blink of the screen. Please help! I have a iMac version 10.6.8
Don't touch your iTunes Music folder. All your iTunes data is stored there completely separate from your iTunes application. You can delete or reinstall your iTunes Application without affecting your data. However, you should be able to use iTunes 9.
iTunes 9 requires OS X 10.4.11 or later and a Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5 or G4 processor.
It also needs QuickTime 7.6 or later. You can download it here: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
Note that there are separate versions for Leopard and Tiger. Pick the right one. -

ITunes wont open after upgrade to iTunes 9
I upgraded to iTunes 9 unaware that apparently it doesn't work with 10.4.11 and now itunes won't even open, instead I get an "requires Quicktime 7.5.5 or later" message and when I click the OK button iTunes still doesn't open. I can't upgrade to QT 7.5.5, as far as I know it is for intel Macs only and apparently so is iTunes 9. I can uninstall iTunes 9 and reinstall itunes 8.2, but since I can't open iTunes and backup the music to a disc, I'm not sure if or how I would replace the music in the reinstalled iTunes, will the music folder be effected and if it is, can I simply copy the music folder to the desktop and then drag and drop it into the iTunes application folder after the reinstall? If not, what would be the best procedure?

Itunes wont open after upgrading
I upgraded to the newest version of itunes and now when i try to open it it pops up and says:
iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvience
After that it asks if you want to see what the error report contains and when i click that it says:
The fowoling files will be included in this error report:
C:\DOCUME~1\Rich\LOCALS~1\Temp\38de_appcompat.txt
Can anyone help?
I am running Windows XP SP2 if that helpsyou run no antivirus at all?
thats a dangerous game of russian roullette. you probably have malware, spyware, adware blocking you from opening iTunes. This is not uncommon and there is a variant of malware attacking Windows computers that is making this errorless launch of iTunes.
The number one rule of owning a Windows PC that accesses the internet is to have programs that will scan and remove malware, viruses, and spyware. You MUST run these scans AT least twice a week.
Go download these free programs and clean your PC, then your iTunes should open.
1. EWIDO-a free malware scanner and remover tool
2. LavaSoft's AdAware-will scan and remove syware, adware
3. AVG Free-will scan and remove viruses
4. SpyBot S&D-will also remove spyware
IF your computer is heavily infested, as I suspect yours is, your computer will take HOURS to do this, but its worth it. Also, you may want to go to TrendMicro's website and use their HouseCall scanner. It will scan and remove stuff of your PC via the internet.
You may have to boot into SafeMode and use these programs.
Good Luck and report back once your scans have completed.
PS. It is important to run more than one AntiSpyWare program because each program will catch what another program misses. Spyware will slow your system down tremendously. I suggest a spyware scan several times a week -
IPhoto not opening after upgrade to OSX10.6.8 intel iMac
I can no longer run iPhoto by clicking on the app icon, open images in it, or access the photos in it in any other way.
Since upgrading OS my iMovie has also been upgraded to v11. I don't knoiw if this is a factor.Try rebuilding the iPhoto database ..
Hold down the Option + Command keys then launch iPhoto.
If you see the Rebuild Photo Library window select: Repair the iPhoto Library Database
Click Rebuild.
using Norton from the Utilities folder
By the way. Norton a/v software for the Mac can cause far more problems than it's worth. You need to uninstall Norton > Uninstalling Norton AntiVirus | Macworld
If you really want to have a/v software installed on a Mac, use either ClamXav or Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Edition.
They are both free. -
Iphoto wont open after the latest update
I did the latest update from Apple and now my iPhoto won't open. It says it supported on this type of Mac. I've been using it for 2 years!! What do I need to do?
What did you update? What iPhoto do you have?
If you updated to Mavericks from a previous Mac OS X then you have to upgrade iPhoto to 9.5.1 as the prior versions will not run with Mavericks. -

New Iphoto wont open after downloading Yosemite
I updated my 2010 Macbook Pro with Yosemite. Then I downloaded the new Iphoto from the App Store. The new iphoto is completely unresponsive and my old iphoto has a white circle with a line through it. Help!
What version of iPhoto did you have? Probably you need to drag it to the trash and then install 9.6 - if you have iPhoto '08 or earlier you ned to download and un the iPhoto library updater before launching the new iPhoto
