IPhoto would import only half my Nikon photos--rest not supported

Hello Out There. I use Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5.1.
With my Nikon D70 I shot some pics yesterday and shot some more today. iPhoto would only load the pics from yesterday. Image capture wouldn't load them either. In both cases File Not Supported came up.
Any thoughts on how I can resolved this? Thanks in advance.

Thanks Terence. I registered for a trial of Adobe Illustrator and uploaded files from there and then transferred to iPhoto.
Many thanks for your suggestion. I don't have a card reader--but I see that they are not all that expensive. I will remember this alternative in the future.

iPhoto does work and there is an upgrade:
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

Am I correct that Photos does not support external editors? i.e., in Aperture, I click Photos Edit with.... and can open in Photoshop or various plug-ins. Changes are then automatically saved back to Aperture. Nonexistent in Photos?

Thanks Larry. That certainly gives me some understanding. Can't imagine I'm the only Aperture user with that concern, so I certainly hope Adobe and others will fill the void. Without that feature, Photos is pretty much a non-started for me.

You do not want EFI 2.2, it bricked many 2011 MacBook Pro machines.
EFI 2.3 is the fix. Software Update should install it if you need it, but it goes to the boot drive as that's where the hidden EFI resides.

Also if your SSD should be in the hard drive bay as it makes a better boot/applicaitions drive, not a good storage drive as it wears out with repeated use and is not "scrubbable" like a regular hard drive
The hard drive should be in the optical bay and used as a storage drive, you have things all messed up inside your machine, Apple doesn't support or expect the optical drive to be used as such to begin with, then as a boot drive is just asking for trouble. So use the optical bay as storage and not as a boot bay.
Also you can't install OS X or Windows or use a Firmware restore disk because it only works from a internal optical drive, which you have removed.

I have an iPhone 4s and every time I connect my iPhone to my Mac it downloads all the photos.
How do I import only the newest photos? To have to check what I already have in albums and select only the latest would be very
time consuming. There must be an easier way.

When iPhone is connected and selected in computer iTunes, in Photos tab >
in Selected albums, Events, and Faces, and automatically include > select "the most recent Event"

WHAT has iPhoto 6 done to half of my photos?

I know this has no doubt been covered in earlier posts, but I have to draw further attention to it otherwise we all know Apple will just politely ignore it! All my photos appeared wonderfully well-adjusted in iPhoto 5, and since 'upgrading' to iPhoto 6 about half of my photos have a horrific red saturated tinge to them when viewed as thumbnails. I know this is something to do with ColorSync profiles, but isn't iPhoto for the non-expert, non-colorsyncing user? I've noticed that if I make a tiny non-adjustment and then save the image the thumbnail appears correctly. But do I really have to do this for upwards of 2,000 photos?! Is there no 'rebuild thumbnails properly' option? C'mon Apple... the performance benefits and the rest in iPhoto 6 are fantastic, but if the photos look ******, what's the point? Eh?! EH!?

what is happening is that iPhoto 6 is now using a "default" profile for VIEWING any image that is "untagged". the crazy over-saturated images will look fine if you mail, export or basically do anything to take them out of iPhoto 6.
it was super lame of iPhoto not allowing the user to set their own default profile (ala Photoshop) and even way lamer to make it some crazy super saturated one at that, they should have chosen sRGB.
also, unless i am missing something, there is no way in iPhoto to tell what profile you have assigned to each image... that should have been included in the info area, or at the very least in the "Get Info" panel. So until they get with the program you will have to pop em open in Photoshop.
In short this update could have been so much more. I am pretty dissappointed. The add ColorSync profile radio button in the preferences is a joke.
I won't even start ranting about the 150 "stray" photos it "found" during the update, nor the whole "revert to original" changing the density of my thumbnails, but not the actual image. Especially on images which should not even have the "revert to original" lit up in the first place.
What a mess, I think the iPhoto team is on crack.

Set the gradiant to Foreground to Transparent. Drag to the point you want the gradient to extend to. If you are not far enough, try again. Foreground to Transparent is the only gradient choice that allows you o build the effect.

Run the gradient right across a new layer, and use free transform to resize and position.

Run the gradient to the point you want on a new layer, and add a layer mask. Run another gradient in the oposite direction in the layer mask, and unlink the layer mask (click on the chain link between Eye icon and layer mask). Now use the Move tool to fine tune the position of the layer mask.

How can I get iPhoto to display ONLY file numbers of pictures and not document titles when displayed as thumbnails?

I am a pro photographer and I've never used iPhoto. I use a combination of Adobe's Bridge, Lightroom & Photoshop programmes. I've sent a disk of images to a client and they cannot see the file numbers of the images. Their version of iPhoto only displays the document title that I have embedded in the metadata when importing the images into Bridge.
When I ran a test and imported the same images into my version of iPhoto(7.1.5, since you ask) some of the thumbnails displayed the file number while others displayed the document title. Why does this happen? Can I make it stop? How do I make iPhoto display just the file number in thumbnail mode and not the document title?
When I view the images in Bridge, all I see is the file number but I can't convince the client to use the programme even though they have it. Any help/guidance will be very gratefuly received.

In every version prior to iPhoto 11:
Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File...
In iPhoto 11:
Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original...

How to upload from iphoto to icloud in title order using photo share (not photo stream)?

I can get the albums within iphoto (V9.6) into title order, however when they are uploaded to icloud (photo share, not photo stream) they lose that order. Can the photo shared images on the icloud web link be uploaded/or organised into the order that I have painstakingly created?

I found Old Toad's remedy presented by Tedious Tom here Keeping desired order of photos when sharing on iCloud
After labelling (titling) each of the 300 or so images carefully in numerical order I wanted to be sure that that's how they would be viewed once uploaded from iPhoto to Photo Share (not Photo Stream). Note that I didn't want the ensuing iCloud weblink to be automatically emailed to others. I wanted to email the link personally. I find the automatic invitation's presentation confusing in regard to having to register to view the images or simply clicking the less obvious link. Plus I wanted the invitation to be more personal.
Here's how I did it:
Transferred images from Finder to their own album within iPhoto
With the album open, made sure images were in title order, View/Sort Photos/By Title
Selected all images
Followed Old Toad's advice (except I changed from 1 minute to 1 second), Photos/Batch Change/Set Date/Add 1 second between each photo
Shared with iCloud, Share/iCloud
Dialogue box comes up, Clicked on New photo stream
Another dialogue box, filled in one of my email addresses (not my iCloud identity), unticked Subscribers Can Post, ticked Public Website, clicked Share
Opened iCloud within iPhoto and waited until finished uploading
Highlighted the album, clicked Info, copied the weblink shown under Public Website and pasted into personal email invitations

Nikon D800 Definitely NOT Supported in ACR RC 6.7 or in Photoshop CS6 beta with ACR 7

It's been my experience that I am unable to view RAW images shot by my new Nikon D800 with ACR 6.7 installed, or with Photoshop CS 6 beta which includes an ACR 7 plug-in. This is true whether I'm shooting in Live View or not.
Anyone else having difficulty with RAW images shot by the Nikon D800?

I use Nikon Transfer in conjunction with a card reader to transfer these files to my desktop, either Windows 7 Ultimate or Mac Lion, latest version.
These NEF files are seen in Windows Explorer as thumbnail images, but do not open up in Photoshop or Bridge or Camera Raw. If I right-click on the Explorer thumbnail and request it to open with Photoshop 5.1, it produces the error messaqge: "Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw."
My Camera Raw version in "Help" "About Plug-ins" is 6.7.0.319
As I've said, the only time I've been able to open my NEF files in Camera Raw and Photoshop was when I used Nikon's Camera Control Pro 2(This software allows me to shoot my camera from software on a computer), in which, as the shots are exposed, they are automatically transferred to my laptop where Camera Control resides. That laptop runs Windows 7 Ultimate, 32-bit. The two desktops run 64-bit versions of Windows and Mac Lion, respectively.
To add to the confusion, I downloaded a trial version of PhaseOne's CaptureOne which is described as updated to handle D800 NEFs, but no go for me.
I just tried a shot with my Win 7 Desktop, which also has Camera Control Pro 2 on it, the files are automatically downloaded to my Users/My Pictures folder, and the NEF opens up in Camera Raw, and then in Photoshop when I request it. This works whether I shoot in "live View" or not.
Any thoughts?

Import Data Tier Application Collation 1033 is not supported

When I try to use Import Data-Tier Application I am getting an error, Could not load schema model from package (Microsoft.SqlServer.Dac)
Additional information: Collation 1033 is not supported. you must specify one of the supported collations in the Collation attribute.
Everything was working fine for a while and then I started getting this error.
I checked my system restore and there's a message "Language Pack Removal"
I also believe this started happening after I installed Office 2013.

Looking over your answer again, I don't see how anything could be wrong with the file.
1) I am able to import the file with no problem
2) I update windows
3) I am no longer able to update the file or any other .bacpac files and get the error:
Could not load schema model from package (Microsoft.SqlServer.Dac)
Additional information: Collation 1033 is not supported. you must specify one of the supported collations in the Collation attribute.
I have checked that SQL server has all of the correct Collation settings as well so I have no idea where to even start looking for this issue.

Suddenly, iPhoto "thinks" it's on my OLD iMacG5 and not supported?

iPhoto won't open and the message says "You can't open the application iPhoto because it is not supported on this type of Mac. This is an iMac 21.5. I THINK, for some reason, iPhoto software isn't operating correctly? I've been using it without incident since we brought it home in April....

If you have the 'pointers' to those songs in the Music part of your iTunes library then iTunes assumes that you still have the tracks somewhere (even if the actual music files are not on your computer). Try deleting the 'pointer' to one of them from your library and see if it then shows in the 'not on this computer' section for re-downloading (assuming that it's still in the store).
