Iphoto wouldn't open in yosemite! asking me for permission repair.

I'm running Yosemite on an Note Book Pro 17" , 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 and updated iphoto to 9.6.
When trying to open it, it tells me that the permissions for the library are not valid and that I have to repair permissions.
I repaired permissions with the Utility Programm and with iPhoto itself. (That possibility appears after the pop up that my permissions are not correct).
What can I do to see my 12'000 pics!!!!????

Couple of things to try:
Restart your mac and try launch iPhoto again.
If that fails:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a file called ‘iPhoto’Lock.data or similar. Drag it to the Desktop. Make no other changes. Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If not: Where is your iPhoto Library stored? If it's on an External Disk, what format is that?

Iphoto will not open I am asked to check with developer that iphoto works with this version of OS x. I have Mountain Lion OS X I have followed all the steps recomended  by T Devlin in a previous discussionand reinstalle ILife but to no avail

To reinstall iPhoto you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the:
    HD/Library/Receipts folder (10.5 and earlier)
    or from the /var/db/receipts/  folder (10.6) .
or from the /private/var/db/receipts folder (10.7 or later)
Then install iPhoto from the source it came from originally.

  • IPhoto fails to open with Yosemite

    Hello everyone,
Since my last update of iPhoto (V 9.6) on my MacBook Pro 17 "(2011) running Yosemite: it stops during the opening of the photo library [iPhoto (not responding) in "Force applications to leave dialog"]. My tests and observations:
-The Repair permissions utility changes nothing...
-Opening of  an "iPhoto library" newly created does not work more...
-My normal library (which does not open) opens fine on my other Mac : A Mac Pro 2014 running Yosemite and iPhoto 9.6 (same versions so).
-The regeneration of all iPhoto elements into libraries (general and user one) does not change anything either...
-iPhoto Library permissions are OK (R / W for everybody and current user)

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
If the new library fails like the current one does do the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents the following folder: User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks and Yosemite,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.

  • Help! iPhoto won't open in Yosemite!

I went to open iPhoto 9.6 today and it says it needs to update but when it takes me to the app store it says that the update is not available in the US. what is going on? I am running 10.10.3.

You need to update to iPhoto 9.6.1. Only that is fully compatible with MacOS X 10.10.3.
You can no longer buy iPhoto from the App Store anywhere, and also not update it from the "Updates" tab of the App Store. You can however reinstall it, if it is showing among your Purchases at the App Store and associated with your AppleID.
Sign into the App Store and look at the Purchases tab.  If you do not see iPhoto there, try to unhide your Purchases as described on this page:   Hide and unhide purchases in the Mac App Store - Apple Support
If iPhoto shows on your Purchases tab, reinstall as described in this User Tip:
Get iPhoto 9.6.1 if you didn't update before OS... | Apple Support Communities
The main idea is to move the incompatible iPhoto app to the Trash, so Spotlight does not see it as installed, reload the App Store by pressing ⌘R, and then to try to download again from the App Store - from your Purchases tab, not from the main page, since you can neither buy iPhoto nor update it, but you can reinstall, if your AppleID is associated with it.
So move iPhoto to the Trash (don't empty the Trash), relaunch the App Store. The button to the right if iPhoto should change to Install on the "Purchases" tab.

  • When I try to open parallels it asks me for a xp cd key?

any idea why it's not loading like it did last week? thanks

I don't think any of us know what may have changed on your system since last week. Is it asking you to re-activate your copy of XP? Is this a copy of XP your purchased? Are you sure you're talking about XP asking for a key and not Parallels? Parallels offers a 15 day free trial and then you must purchase it if you want to continue using it. I took a look at one of your other posts.... and it sounds like this may be what you're referring to:
"was it just a trial or demo time period to use windows? Do ih have to purchase a CD key? thanks for any help"

  • I bought Aperture on app store in july. Now, when I open it, it ask me for my serial number?

    Hello every one...
I don't have access to Aperture anymore. I have to give a serial number, and I don't have it because I bought it on Appstore?
    What can I do?
    Thanks for your help.
    D.

Aperture (or any app) bought from the App Store does not require a serial number to use. Your Apple Id is all that is required to download and run the App.
How did the problem begin? Some background information will make it easier to try and help you.
The simplest thing to do is to delete the Aperture App in your Applications folder and using the same Apple ID you used when you first bought Aperture, log into the App Store and download it again.

  • Why is there no option to "ask me" when a site wants to place a cookie? That is, instead of ALLOWING all cookies unless I have preemptively blocked the site, why doesn't it ask me for permission like older versions?

I seem to recall, in older versions of FF, I could allow cookies, block cookies or have FF ask me if I wanted to allow a cookie each time a site tried to place one. This meant that I could allow certain cookies from, let's say Yahoo!, while disallowing other cookies from Yahoo!. I found this to be a very useful feature, and I would like to have it back.

    See:
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Keep until": "ask me every time"
Be aware that you may need to confirm each cookie if a website wants to store more.

I'm setting up my new MyCloud 3TB and am in the process of backing up my files. Its been 3 days runinng constantly and I've only backed up 147Gb which is frustrating. I cant move my computer to where the router is so its being transferred wirelessly. I'm trying to map my network drive but the option is always greyed out so I cant select it. I am the adnminstrator.  Any ideas?

    Hi there,
Try to do a reset on the unit to see if this fixes the issue with the permissions, are you able to access the unit from a different computer on the network, here is a link the might help with the reset process on the unit:

This is likely a problem with the profiles.ini file that is either not created or is corrupted.
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/profiles.ini_file
Try to remove the entire Firefox folder with all profile folders that show in the screenshot and see if that fixes the problem.<br />
Firefox should create a new Firefox program folder and a profiles.ini file that registers this profile.
If that isn't the case then check the settings in your security software.
It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

I have installed Lightroom 5 on my Mac (OS X 10.9.5).  I have installed both via disk and via download.  It says installation is complete.  When I go to open LR5 it asks me for the license key and says that license key is good.  Problem is that it asks me for the license key EVERY time I open LR5 and after I enter it and hit finish it closes LR5.  I cannot get past this.  I have un-installed, restarted my computer and re-installed about a dozen times with the same result.  Any ideas?

  • IPhoto 9.6 Yosemite asks to do upgrade and then permissions repair

After the Yosemite upgrade, iPhoto was updated and was all running fine. Could access photos etc.  iPhoto previous version was the Mavericks one, so not v7 or before, requiring the Library upgrade tool.
Last night when trying to access iPhoto, it comes up with a message saying the library needs to be upgraded.  (https://www.dropbox.com/s/9svb2pc91821sm0/Screenshot%202014-10-24%2014.00.48.jpg ?dl=0)
Ignoring the fact that this doesn't make sense as I have been using this library with the updated 9.6 iPhoto, I then click the Upgrade button.  iPhoto starts 'Examining photo library' for a while and then comes back with a message saying the Library cannot be opened and that the permissions need to be repaired.  After asking it to repair permissions, it fails and says the file cannot be opened.  (https://www.dropbox.com/s/vc3w6c8rh24hpyk/Screenshot%202014-10-24%2014.07.40.jpg ?dl=0)
After trying the following, the symtpoms changed slightly.
    1) Restarted the Mac (as you do)
    2) Deleted iPhoto and re-installed it (advised in another thread)
    3) The file was on an external USB drive, which was Mac OS Extended Journaled (and has been working on there for 2 years), so just in case, I moved it to the main hard disk in the Pictures folder
    3) Ran Disk Utility repair permissions just in case, but no errors found in that file.  Rebooted and ran again to make sure.
    4) Showed Package Contents of iPhoto Library file and moved out the iPhotoLock.data file
After trying all this, it now skips the permission repair option and just goes straight from the upgrade screen to the failed to open screen.
I have now tried the iPhoto Library Manager tool and that opens the Library just fine (version 4.19), which suggests everything is there and working, but that iPhoto has just stopped working.  However, if I use iPhoto to open or create other iPhoto Libraries, it works fine, which indicates a problem with the Library itself.
I have also tried opening the file from my iMac (also Yosemite and iPhoto 9.6), but it comes up with the same messages and errors.
Now trying a complete rebuild using iPhoto Library Manager as iPhoto won't open the file to do a rebuild using CMD-Option.  This may take days for the 130Gb Library, so just wanted this post up in case anyone else is having similar issues and may have found a solution.
    Any and all ideas welcome!
    Thanks,
    Graeme

Do you still have the original library that you used iPLM to rebuild.  I as because I didn't see anywhere that you used iPhoto itself to repair the database.  If you still have it try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • IPhoto cannot open with Yosemite

    Hi guys!
I have updated my MacBook Pro on Yosemite and iPhoto cannot open. It asked for an update from Apple store, which I did. Now there are 2 icon apps of iPhoto, and none opens. I moved to trash the old one, but still the new did not respond at all.
    Any advice?

I had problems with iPhoto but after cleaning out my mac with 'Clean my Mac'
I'm not surprised.  As Larry has already pointed CYM and others like it do more damage than good and are considered malware around here.  Uninstall CYM according to the developer's directions:  How to Uninstall CleanMyMac Classic ... - MacPaw.
To verify that you've removed all of the files download and run Find Any File to search for any files with "the application's' name"  and the "developer's name" in the file name.  For example for CleanMyMac you'd do two searches:
    1 - Name contains "cleanmymac"
    2 - Name contains "macpaw"
Any files that are found can be dragged from the search results window to the Desktop for deletion.
FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages.
When you're done run  Disk Utility and repair disk permissions and try iPhoto again.
