Iphoto - Zoom and crop question.

I have seem this question asked but I am still unable to execute this process.
I zoomed on a photo on iphoto to send via email and when I went to crop it (as in save the zoom for that photo), it always reverted back to the original size.
Help would be greatly appreciated.
Alan.

Sorry I don't think I explained properly.
I just want to zoom into a picture of two faces in the photo, close up and then send it.
I have tried numerous times with no success.
Thanks
Alan.

  • Automatically zoom and crop an image to fit in a square

    I've got an mx:Image which is loading an image from the web.  I don't know how big the image will be in advance.  I'd like the loaded image to fit within the mx:Image's square frame by zooming and cropping off the sides or top/bottom as needed.  In other words, if the image frame is 64x64 and the loaded image is 70x64, it will be centered and lose a few pixels on the right and left sides.  Is it possible to do automatically?  I've played with maintainAspectRatio and scaleContent but I haven't been able to get what I want.

    In an ideal world we would use a high resolution version with a 100% width set for every device (and screen size). Because of bandwidth reasons, the page should load only a version of the image intended for a specific width range.
    Sometime in the future we will (probably) be able to use this:
    <picture width="500" height="500">
       <source media="(min-width: 45em)" src="large.jpg">
       <source media="(min-width: 18em)" src="med.jpg">
       <source src="small.jpg">
       <img src="small.jpg" alt="">
       <p>Accessible text</p>
    </picture>
    However, this will not yet work. Therefore, ideally, a polyfill picturefill method that works quite well can alternatively be used:
    https://github.com/scottjehl/picturefill
    Solution:
    Call the picturefill.js (see above url for more information and sample code)
    body:
    <span data-picture data-alt="A giant stone face at The Bayon temple in Angkor Thom, Cambodia">
            <span data-src="small.jpg"></span>
            <span data-src="medium.jpg"     data-media="(min-width: 400px)"></span>
            <span data-src="large.jpg"      data-media="(min-width: 800px)"></span>
            <span data-src="extralarge.jpg" data-media="(min-width: 1000px)"></span>
            <!-- Fallback content for non-JS browsers. Same img src as the initial, unqualified source element. -->
            <noscript>
                <img src="external/imgs/small.jpg" alt="A giant stone face at The Bayon temple in Angkor Thom, Cambodia">
            </noscript>
        </span>
    This works in all browsers and devices. On a mobile platform only the lower resolution image will be loaded up.

  • IPhoto '08 and Tiger question

    Will iPhoto '08 and other iLife '08 programs work well with Tiger or are they written to work better/only with Leopard?
    thanks.

    Desktop photos: I've upgraded to iPhoto 08 and would like to select a folder where the pictures can change every fifteen minutes. I can't find the folders after Choose photos. Iphoto Library is gray and has hidden the date files in the Pictures column.
    Any solution?
    Thanks.

  • I photo "zoom"  and "crop" function

    Maybe I'm missing something but I'm unable (when in edit photo) to zoom in on a photo and then try to crop to that particular area. Every time I hit crop the picture reverts back to the original size. I was always able to this with ease in prior versions. Help please! Thanks

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    Start with this basic fix: trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    *What's the plist file?*
    For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Another Iphoto '11 and PSE9 Questions

    I'm running the latest version of iphoto '11.   Just installed PSE9 and all of the updates.
    I've made PSE9 the external editor in iphoto.
    In the PSE9 prefs, I set:
    - the color picker to apple's
    - set on first save to save over current file
    When I want to edit a JPEG file in iphoto, I select the file, and click on the edit button in the bottom corner. Iphoto duplicates it (that is fine) and the picture comes up in PSE9.  I edit it (draw a big snowflake on it), and then select File -> Save.  (Not save as).  A save dialog pops up.
    QUESTION 1) I thought the save dialog should NOT pop up?  Help?
    QUESTION 2) In the same dialog, the format is set to photoshop.   If I click save, the changes don't show up in iphoto.  Make sense-- it is in photoshop format. Should I have to manually select JPEG everytime?  It doesn't auto select it?
    If I change it to jpeg and click save, and then click ok on the jpeg option window, the file saves and I see the changes in iphoto.
    In iphoto, if I now select the modified photo and select edit, it doesn't make a duplicate first.  I guess it knows not to?
    I edit the photo in PSE9 again (add another snow flake) and select file -> save.The save dialog pops up again and photoshop format is selected.  If I select JPEG, the name now changes from IMG13_3.jpg to IMG13_3 copy.jpg.
    Question 3)  If I save it, it is a new file, and the changes don't show up in iphoto.  Is this expected?  I have to manually change the file name?
    This doesn't seem all that efficient and could be stream lined...
    Thanks

    This may be preaching to the choir but here goes:
    Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
    1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's Advanced Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
    Click to view full size
    2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
    3 - however, if you get the navigation window
    Click to view full size
    that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
    This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
    NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9 the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
    Click to view full sizes
    I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
    In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
    Click to view full size
    NOTE: If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS/PSE without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in iPhoto". That will let you either edit in iPhoto using the Edit button or Control-clicking on the thumbnail and selecting "Edit in iPhoto" or in PS/PSE by Control-clicking on the thumbnail and selecting "Edit in External Editor" in the Contextual menu.
    Click to view full size
    This way you get the best of both worlds.
    Happy Holidays

  • Rotating and Cropping Question ??

    Sometimes I have to straighten up a photo by rotating it like .1 degrees, and then when I try to crop the little sliver off the side it is a pain to get the crop marks just right. I there an easy way to crop out the new image while keeping as much of it as possible?
    I hope this makes sense.
    Thank you.
    Dan

    what Buko says,
    but you can crop+rotate+change resolution up-sampling (adding more pixels) with no problem.
    But crop+rotate+change resolution down-sampling (reducing the number of pixels) you can get some pretty bad image distortion.

  • Premier Elements 12 zoom vs crop

    On some clips the default pan and zoom tool does a pan and zoom, but on other clips it does a crop and pan (without me changing anything).  I don't want the crop... I want it tpo zoom and pan all the time for this project.  I've right clicked everywhere I can think of and don't come up with a settings menu.  Is there a settings menu other than via the Applied Effect toggle (which doesn't have a setting I can see for this cropping issue).
    Also, when I've created a sequence of focus frames, I can access the marker in the in the timeline to move the focus frame.  When I click on a marker it jumps the CTI to that spot, but doesn't allow me to grab the marker.  Is there a setting I'm missing, or is there another way to move the marker.

    created by A.T. Romano in Premiere Elements - View the full discussionastrofun I have not finished by testing on the issue that you present. I created an 4K video so that I would work through the details that you are presenting. In spite of these  zoom and crop that you feel are occurring randomly and for which you seek an explanation, are you getting the wanted pan and zoom effects when the video returns to the Expert workspace Timeline from the Pan and Zoom workspace. I am suspecting that this zoom and crop that you are seeing is solely in the Pan and Zoom workspace and are reflecting the mechanics of your establishment of the focus frames as you move the Timeline Indicator from the first focus frame  (first frame of the video) from left to right.  Not exactly sure what you mean!
       - I highlight my clip, then open Pan and Zoom tool
       - When opened, the tool has 2 focus frames marked... one at each end of the clip.  I am not able to grab the marker and move either of these on the timeline (or any subsequent time frames).  Once I create a frame its there... I can't mover it by the marker (as soon as I click on the marker the CTI comes to that spot, and I can't get to a menu or screen change when I click on the pan duration
       - What I have been doing is deleting the default focus frame #2, moving my CTI to the place where I want a pan to stop, and inserting a new focus frame, then size and locate it on my image.
       - Follow this exact procerdiure and on some clips I get a zoom with the whole frame filling the screen, and on some clips I get a crop with only part of the screen being filled.

  • Aperture's Straighten and Crop vs. iPhoto's

    Hello, I know that when using iPhoto to straighten a pic that it ZOOMS then crops the pic to eliminate the black triangles that would be left behind from the rotation. This zooming is unacceptable for me, as it degrades the pictures (12MP digi cam) just enough for me to see it. I imagine that this is a function of trying to rotate, and crop out the black while keeping the pic the same size (which would require the zoom). I have seen that Aperture straightens and 'crops' but when it auto crops, does it ALSO try to keep the image the same size (which would lead to another zoom situation)? I would just like to find a tool that can straighten, and if need be, cut my image size from 4000x3000 to 3500x2500, versus keeping the 4000x3000 and being slightly blurred. If the camera were garbage and the images were slightly blurred to begin with, then maybe it wouldn't be so noticeable, but my Canon takes really sharp pics and any blur really sticks out. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Yeah, iPhoto does the same thing, as far as the pixel count being reduced. I suppose that's just from cropping out the black triangles. However, I just realized that I am an idiot... I exported an original file, then exported a straightened file, and the two resulting files aren't very different... The altered file isn't noticeably any more blurry than the original, it must have been just how it looked in iPhoto's preview window. That's odd... I was getting a little concerned that all of my straightened photos were going to look like garbage when I export them. All seems well... Thanks!

  • Canon Power Shot A1100 IS - how do I zoom in an already taken photo, and crop it to desired image.

    I would like to zoom in an already taken picture and crop to desired magnification.  Can anyone tell me how to do this on the Canon Power Shot A1100 IS.
    Kind Regards
    Catherine

    Catherine,
    You can crop the image in the included Image Browser or Zoom Browser software.  There isn't a method to be able to crop in camera.  We regret any inconvenience that this may cause you at this time.

  • There are too many questions "like" mine, so here it is: I updated from Mountain Lion to Yosemite, I can't open iphoto 9.1.5, I am directed to the app store, I "accept" iphoto upgrade and enter my credentials, but no update occurs. :-(

    Attempting iPhoto upgrade from 9.1.5 to 9.5.

    How many questions like yours should there be? What exactly do you expect the volenteers here to do about what you personally consider "too many questions"?
    To move to iphoto 9.6 (required for Yosemite) You must log in to the App store  using the Apple ID that was used to set up the compter (or purchase the application if it was purchased later), backup your iPhoto library and then download and install iPhoto 9.6 from the App store
    If that is not working then you must contact App store suport - link is on the right of the App store window

  • Edited photos are not reflected in iPhoto 08 and a bonus question

    I'm using iPhoto 08 to upload photos from my DSLR. I then drag them into Photoshop for editing and save them from that application. When I go back to iPhoto they still show the unedited version. If I drag that photo back into Photoshop, it is indeed the edited version.
    Is there a setting to show the edited version in iPhoto 08?
    2nd question:
    When I use the finder application to navigate to the location of my iPhoto library, I can't "dig"any deeper than the iPhoto application. I know I can "show file" from iPhoto, but it some cases, I'd rather just navigate to the location through finder. Can this be done?

    No - once you export a photo, you own it and iPhoto has nothing more to do with it until you import it back into iPhoto (which in your case is not what you want because it duplicates the photo in your iPhoto library)
    -- BUT
    There is a setting to make photoshop the editor for iPhoto and if you use that your photos will be correctly reflected in iPhoto
    iPhoto menu ==> General ==> edit photos "in application" and select photoshop as the application
    Now when you edit a photo in iPhoto it will pass it to photoshop, you will edit it and save it (NOT SAVE AS) and the edited version will be part of your iPhoto library

  • IPhoto 6 cropping question

    How do I crop a picture in iPhoto 6 and keep the picture the same size as it is now. It gives all kinds of options such as 4 x 6, 8 x 10, display? Thanks for your help.

    In the edit view there is a section called 'constrain' with a drop down menu below it. If you select the drop down menu the top item should say 'NONE' and you can use that. Then, by clicking and dragging inside the photo, you can match the current aspect ratio or alter it to whatever you feel looks the best. Then click on crop and your photo is now cropped!!

  • I cleaned up my mac and now all my applications are gone. I try to open them and it has a question mark on the app icon. Everything from System prefrences, Everything in itunes, iphoto, preview and mail? Please help

    I cleaned up my mac and now all my applications are gone. I try to open them and it has a question mark on the app icon. Everything from System prefrences, Everything in itunes, iphoto, preview and mail? Please help

    These question marks are on your dock? And you can't open applications from your dock?
    If so, try this: Open a new finder window and navigate to the Applications folder in your hard disk. The applications in question should still be in there (the Applications folder). So drag each of the application icons that you want to be available on your dock from the Applications folder onto your dock, one by one. Take each of your question mark icons that are on the dock and drag them off the dock to get rid of them. See if that fixes you up.
    Now, if your hard disk no longer has an Applications folder in it, or the Applications folder is empty, you are going to have to reinstall OS 10.6 then do a software update to bring you back up to OS 10.6.8. You may be able to just go to the "optional installs" folder on the installer DVD and maybe all the stock applications are there -- I don't remember and I don't have an installer DVD handy to look. That would be way easier than doing a full blown OS reinstall. Also, as I recall, if OS 10.6 was on the computer when you bought it from the store, I think there should be an "extras" DVD that has a handful of applications that could be reinstalled from it, too.

  • IPhoto Zooming Question

    iPhoto Zooming - I just upgraded my Macbook Pro and even though I have my thumbnails on the largest size in Zoom when I click on a photo it reduces it to the smallest possible in Zoom and I have to manually increase the size of each photo I want to look at - very frustrating!  My old lMacbook Pro kept the same large Zoom size - and I can't find anywhere in Preferences or anywhere else to set this preference.  Can anyone help?

    That happens to me when the full size of the image is less than the window size in iPhoto on my iMac.  Does this happen with every photo or just certain photos?
    Try the following:
    1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
    2 - delete the contents the following folder:
    User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
    3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
    NOTE: For Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
    where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.
