IPhoto11 events

I cannot view my events in IPhoto11 individually.  Double clicking does not work.  Neither does splitting events.

Folders  --  are these iPhoto folders of finder folders created by iPhoto inside the iPhoto library?
NEVER make any changes of any sort to the structure or content of the iPhoto library - doing so will corrupt it and cause data loss - so if you are looking inside with the find STOP before you destroy your library
If they are iPhoto folders then there is no program I've heard of to change them - I doubt that it exists
I am trying to put all the folders in chronological order within events
This is a very confusing statement since events can not be subdivided and in iPhoto folders hold only other folders or albums - not events and events can not hold folders
as to fixing EXIF dates - select the photos and use either the adjust time and date command (this corrects for camera settings, etc by adding a fixed increment to all selected photos) or batch change time and date which sets a specified time/date (with the option of adding an increment) to each photo
So remember
1 - NEVER go into the iPhoto library for any reason - there are no user serviceable parts in it - and messing in it will cause you to lose data
2 - use the standard iPhoto terminology (events, folders, albums) when asking for help - we know nothing except what you tell us and if you do not use the correct terms you are likely to get bad information back

In your description you say the first document opens as the Title you gave it.
Templates always open as Untitled so it sounds like you have saved a regular document, perhaps into your templates folder which is possible.
Since you have already worked on it and it has been previously saved, Lion will now Save for you and Save a Version is available
The other document does open as Untitled so sounds like a real template and as Peggy has pointed out will not have either Revert nor Save a Version until you Save it and have changed something in it.
This is a classic example of just how Apple's supposedly "simplification" of the process, is leading to confusion of what has happened. That the conditions and resulting actions from those conditions is so convoluted says it all.
It all reminds me of the Monty Python Life of Brian sketch with the "simplified" John Cleese instructions to the class, as to if you have a brother in an older dorm whether to hang your hat and bag on the hooks provided. The trouble is Apple does not get the joke, that it is transforming itself into a frequently self contradictory bumbling bureacracy. The price of unchallenged self appointed geniushood.
The incoherent half baked stumbling juggernaut has reached new triumphs with its edict on enforced Sandboxing on developers when it is unable to follow even its own instructions.

  • Can't see my events anymore after having up graded iPhoto to iphoto11

I up graded iphoto app to iphoto11 and i cannot see my pictures anymore, i just see the events as black boxes. If i open them I see just black squares but not pictures. It is probably a problem with The library, what should I do? Thanks

It appears a yellow big exclamation point.
I think that the iphoto library indexation system got some problems during the up grading, and now also if I see the events with the right names, the events do not point to the right folder anymore.
I could probably solve the problem importing all my pictures in iphoto again, but I’m not able to reach the folders containing the originals photo files.
If I go to iphoto library file and I try to open it, iphoto get open.
One time only I was able to open it ( I do not how, I’m not able to do it again) and I could see a folder with all pictures I modified (originals) and another folder with the modified pictures ( modified), but I could not find a folder with all my pictures.
I need to understand: 1) how can I open Iphoto library again without opening Iphoto 2) where should I look for all my pictures If I do not find the right folder in there.
    Thanks you

  • Cover photo for iPhoto event in iPhoto11

How do I select the cover photo for an iPhoto event in iPhoto11?

When you scrub over the Event icon, you can hit the space bar and it will make that photo your key photo.
You can also find the photo you want within the Event, right click and select "Make Key Photo".

  • How can I make a COPY/duplicate of an Event in iPhoto11

I need to make a copy of an 'event' I have in iPhoto on iMac.  I want the original event in tacked; I want to remove photos on the COPY.
    Thanks - Jose

You can't, really. You could export the photos from iPhoto, then import them as a new event, but that would be pointless.
Why not just export from the Event? It won't remove the photos from iPhoto you know?

  • My events do not appear on the sidebar in iPhoto11

On my sister's computer, with iPhoto 11, the list of EVENTS has vanished from tha sidebar on the left.  How can I make it appear again?

I forgot to add a picture!

  • Copying file from one event to another deleted large number of photos

I was doing some house keeping on my Photo Library in iPhoto11.
I opened a event and selected al the photos in this event and then copied them to another event. This operation took a very long time. The end effect is that in excess of 10k photos have dissappeared from my libary and are nowhere to be seen.
I tris rebuildingt the library but this makes no imprevement but it shows that the library size reduces from 12Gb to about .5 Gb. But both librarys seems to be identical. So where have my photos gone? I have about 6 years worth of photos in this library and because of an earlier problem with OSX on my laptop I had to move this library to an external disc which is not backed up. I think I may have an older backup! I did to at any point press delete or move anything to the trash - this seems to be a software but - any suggestion how to recover my photos. I have checked the system trash and they do not seem to be there either.
    Help

Open the event and select the photo you want to duplicate, go to the edit menu and select copy (command-c), go to all events and select the target event and go to the edit menu and select paste (command-v)
another possible alternative it to use albums - make a new album and drag the photo to it - this saves disk space since the photo only exists once no matter how many albums you place it in - the albums simply reference the photo in the event

  • Drag and drop. Iphoto11

Drag and drop does not seem to work in my iphoto11.  I would just like to move pictures in the specific event into the right order to show in slideshow. The manual entry in view/sort photos is greyed out.  Any help would be appreciated.

I would just like to move pictures in the specific event into the right order to show in slideshow. The manual entry in view/sort photos is greyed out.
You can't dp that. Evets do not allow manual sorting. Why? Events are designed to be entirely automatic - essentially they are basic organisation for folks who can't really be bothered.
Albums are infintely more flexible and do allow manual sorting.

  • Pictures do not display when I hover over event

    I have noticed just recently that I have 2 problems with iPhoto11 which are;
    1. When I hover over the eventy normally I see all the pictures in that event show in the event window. However on my recent events added I can no longer see the pictures in the event when I hover over the event image.
    2. Yesterday I loaded a few photos onto my iMac and created a new event. When I click into the event I not longer get an image view of the pictures in the event, i.e. the thumbnails. If I click on each picture in turn then I see the actual picture.
Anyone seen this before and if so how do I fix it?
    Cheers

Make a temporary, duplicate copy of your library and apply the three fixes in order as necessary.
    Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your HD/User/Home()/ Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your HD/User/Home()/Library /Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #3
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Cut and Paste between Events not working

Using iPhoto11, I can drag and drop pictures between events, no problem...but Cut and Paste does not work.
I select a photo and cut in event A, go to event B, I right click and get a PAST button, It even clicks but nothing happen, the Cut image never gets pasted.
Is this a bug? whats the solution?

To delete the test user, go to the black apple menu, click on system preferences, then on accounts. From an administrator account, click on the "test" user and hit the "-" key. when the dialog box comes up, hit "delete the home folder" and it will be gone.
For the startup disk issue you should repair permissions. From the finder, click on the "go" menu, then on "utilities". Select disc utility. Select your HD and click on repair disk permissions. This will take several minutes (5 or more).
If that has not done the trick then you may need to reset the parameter ram (PRAM).  Turn your computer off. When you turn it back on, simultaneously hold 4 keysL command-option-p-r. Keep holding them. The startup chime will ring. Continue to hold until you have heard the chime at least 2 times (more won't help or hurt). Then release.

  • IPhoto11 - performance when not copying photos to the library

I read many reviews online and posts on this forum about how slow and buggy iPhoto11 is.  The reviewers don't say however if they checked the box "copy photos to library" or not.
I just want to use iPhoto11 solely as a photo browser. I intend to leave the pictures in their original location. I don't do much editing. That is, my iPhoto will not work harder than the Finder.  I do have, however 11,000 photos and videos - 30G.
    My questions are:
    1. Is iPhoto11 still slow under these circumstances?
    2. Is the browsing experience better than iPhoto6 or 9?
2.1. For example, both iPhoto6 and 9 show the date as well as the folder name when I scroll. I don't want to see the folder name, no way to get rid of it.
2.2. iPhoto9 wants to split the pictures into events (weekly, daily, etc). No option for no splitting. I do not want any events.
Any other comments regarding browsing/scrolling in iPhoto11 are welcome.
    Thanks in advance,

#1 - Yes.  It't not whether the library is a managed or referenced library that's the culprit.
#2.1 - In the Photos mode you can set the View options to not show the Event titles and thus only display thumbnail image in that window.    When you scroll in that mode you will see the date only:
If you don't want even the date to show then uncheck the Show Informational Overlays checkbox in iPhoto's Appearance window:
#2.2 - Events will split photos by one of those time segments during import.  That can't be helped.  However, if you upload your photos to a folder on the Desktop and then import from there they all will go into one event.
But that is all moot if you work in the Photos mode where the Event titles are not displayed an all you see are the thumbnails for the entire library.

  • Iphoto 11 reordered my events and pictures is there a fix?

  • Slideshow in iPhoto11 using iMac with mountain lion OSX10.9

I have made a slideshow in iphoto11 and exported it.  Went into imovie11 and selected import.  The slideshow was imported to events.  How do I burn this slideshow to a DVD.  I need to go to mediabrower but it is grey.
I can export the photo album to iMovIe8 create a new project by  dragging  the photos  into a new project.  The old photos are of family members and I need the captions for who is who.  In the New project using only the photo album, the captions are not on, only when I create a slideshow.
I hope someone can help me, and I hope I have made my problem clearly enough for someone to understand. I also have imported Maverick, the latest version.

What version of iPhoto do you have, 9.5 or one of the earlier versions? You don't need to go from iPhoto to iMovie before going into iDVD.  But it's important to know what version of iPhoto you're using.

  • IPHOTO 11 does not allow me to move photos from one event to another.

I recently upgraded to IPHOTO 11 and now I cannot Cut/Paste photos from one EVENT to another, I cannot flag a photo and  move the photo to another EVENT.  It will only allow me to create a new Event from the the flagged photo's.  IS there a bug in IPHOTO11 and can I back out if this problem is not resolved?

Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library.
    Select options #1, #2 and #6.
    Fix #3
Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:

  • IPhoto 11 event titles gone?, iPhoto 11 event titles gone?

I upgraded online to iPhoto11.  While working I lost all Event Titles, a message said "reinstall iPhoto11", how would I do that?
It happened when I chose select all in one event.  It selected over 14,000 photos, I unselected them before doing anything and that is when I lost all event titles.  ANY SUGGESTIONS in laymans language would be appreciated.

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
