IPhoto6 - after a full reistall of Snow Leopard, iphoto does not display thumbnails. I've restored from time machine, rebuilt the library and run through the rebuild thumbnails function with no success. The files are there, I just get a dotted outline.

The files are there, I just get a dotted outline instead of the thumbnails. Does anyone have any other ideas on how to restore the thumbnails?
Try the following:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

I want to erase from Leopard and restore from Time Machine, help!
I'm about to reinstall Leopard and I want to zero all of my internal hard drives and start fresh. (im trying to get to the bottom of a kernel problem).
Anyways last night I did a Time Machine backup to a new 2TB WD HD. Everything appears to be backed up fine, but I want to make sure I can restore from Time Machine before I go and do this.
Please let me know if there are any precautions I should take into consideration or if there is a good way to go about doing this.
Thanks!You could try restoring your backup to a new drive before you over-write your working system. That will allow you to test your backup and skills before risking too much down time.
Add a drive large enough to restore the backup to and boot from the Leopard DVD. After you choose your language you can get to the Utility menu to restore Leopard from a TM drive.

After install snow leopard, ical does not show the events of some calendars
After I install snow leopard, ical does not show all the events, or simple does not show the events of some calendars that I created.
Can somebody solve this problem? Is there some update for ical?Try the following:
1 - Go to your user account home folder, and open the library folder within it.
Look for the folder named "Calendars" and inside you might find a bunch of different folders with weird names. If they are there that means your calendars might not be lost.
2 - Look for the file "Calendar Cache". That file might be corrupted. Trash it. You may want to save a copy of it elsewhere. Once trashed, re-open ical. This should force it to rebuild its library based on those folders with weird names you saw. Your calendars should be back. Good luck -
Leopard. Did a full restore from Time Machine. Now I can't access my other internal and external drives. I get the following error: The folder “Capture Video” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents. I have repaired permissions pn the main harddrive. When I try too click on a disk I get the previously stated error. I can't even open up information to see what permission/access there is. It simply will not let me see the content. It shows the content of my main hard drive when I have clicked the other harddrive's name.

I had to restart by resetting the NVRAM/PRAM. Now I have a window showing OS X Utilities. My options are restore from Time Machine Backup (which I could do), Disk Utility to repair or erase, get help online or reinstall OS X. What should I do? The problem began when I tried to restart my computer and the only thing I saw was the grey screen, Apple logo, and the timer; the computer wouldn't restart from there.
I searched through trouble shooting options on the Apple Support page and was able to make it this far.

Your profile indicates that you currently have an older version of Snow Leopard (10.6.2). In order to install Lion, a prerequisite is the latest version of Snow Leopard (10.6.8). Perhaps a few more details would be helpfull in solving your problem. ex. If all you want to do is to upgrade to Lion, a restoration of data is unneccessary. Download the latest version of Snow Leopard and then download (purchase) and install Lion. User data will remain intact.
If I am missing something, please elaborate.

I have a late 2006 iMac that has just started giving me a message to reboot after a black screen comes down slowly from the top top of the screen to the bottom. I reloaded software and restored from Time Machine, but it keeps happening, now several tomes a day. Any insight as to the issue or a proposed solution?
Unplug any peripherals you have except your keyboard, reboot, and check activity monitor for apps. Keep running apps to a minimum to find the App causing the issue.

Restore from time machine does not list all my backups. I know they exist but their dates are not present on the restore list. Any help appreciated. If I must use one of these older dates to restore, how do I then get the more current data off time machine?

It should, but sometimes people report that it fails. I'm not sure why that happens. -
After a full restore from Time Machine, I get "error code -6584" when trying to go into TM.

Snow Leopard Installer does not recognize Hard drive in disk utility.
I first at the suggestion of apple technicians because of other problems erased and partitioned hard drive. Now when I go to reinstall Snow Leopard it does not recognize the Macintosh Hard Drive, not even in disk utility. Any help will be greatly appreciate.
To make sure we understand everything correctly, you are saying that when you start up from the Snow Leopard DVD & run its copy of Disk Utility from the Utilities menu, it shows only the DVD installer disc itself in the list on the left of Disk Utility's window? There is nothing else there?
Also, what are you booted from when you try to make an image of the installer DVD, the DVD itself or something else? Are you using Disk Utility or something else to make the image?
This seems very weird for sure. If you were running from some hard disk copy of the OS, I would suspect that its copy of Disk Utility or some OS support file was corrupted, but if you are doing this from the DVD that is extremely unlikely unless the DVD itself is physically damaged.
Apart from that, pretty much the only thing left is a damaged hard drive or other hardware failure in your Mac. -
Struggling to restore from Time Machine (2007 MacBook; Snow Leopard)
The hard drive failed on my 2007 MacBook. I had it replaced and the shop also installed Snow Leopard (this was what I was using prior to the fail).
I tried a restore from Time Machine and while a huge chunk of my new hard drive disappeared, I couldn't locate the files. I have since found them in the hidden /Volumes folder.
I have also learned that to do a full restore, I should have used my Snow Leopard install disk alongside the drive with Time Machine backups.
So...
1. Should I delete the restored file in the /Volumes folder and start again using the Snow Leopard install disk?
2. I want to upgrade to Lion (this is the furthest I can go with this MacBook). Can I do step 1 using a Lion install disk even though the Time Machine backup was created in Snow Leopard? (Confession: I'm not sure where my Snow Leopard disk is and I'm trying to avoid going through cupboards and boxes to find it)
3. is it laborious and risky to try to restore everything manually from the /Volumes folder? Where do I start if I decide on this route?
Thanks in advance for any advice.I would try recovering the files manually first. If the result is unsatisfactory, then I'd boot up using the Snow Leopard DVD, run Disk Utility/Repair disk, erase and reformat the drive, and then install Snow Leopard. Reboot normally, and use Setup Assistant to restore from Time Machine. Completely update to 10.6.8 and then consider if you want to upgrade to Lion. There are no Lion disks - it is a download.

My new macbook pro (Mountain Lion 10.8.1) will not log into my 1and1 outgoing mail server. ( It will receive mail - but does not send)My old Snow Leopard macbook does not have the same problem ( server settings etc. are identical) . Go to Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Keyboard and Mouse -> Mouse
And edit your mouse settings to do what you want it to do.

Third, from my understanding, it would appear you are concerned about the noise the hard drive makes when it falls asleep? Why not put your machine in screen saver mode instead? Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Energy Saver turn off all Energy Saver settings, or set them to run Never.
Fourth, if your machine was purchased just a few days ago, you may still be able to get an exchange from the store, quicker than you can get a repair done. You may want to look into that possibility.
Fifth, it does appear you found the Logic forum. I would persist in asking there how to solve your technical issue with Logic regarding the audio. It may be you don't have to do anything special to the hard drive. Remember audio can be transmitted by wire, avoiding ambient sounds.

Is there anyway to restore from time machine without leopard cd?
i really badly screwed up my system by deleting files i shouldnt have,
and now i have a kernal panic at startup.
i bought this macbook in america and left the cds there (duh) - so i cant restore from time machine...
is there a way to do it or do i need the cds to wait for the leopard cd to get here in the post?Yes, need those DVD.

I have just installed iPhoto 11 and all of photos on my iphone have now all disappeared and ended up in my photo stream and the library in iphoto does not display all my pictures?? Can anyone help?
And I cant work out why all of my pictures are not diplaying in iphoto?
Is this iPhoto on your Mac? Are you referring to the photos that were in your iPhoto LIbrary prior to the upgrade to iPhoto 11? If so then apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.

If that's not what you're referring to then you should describe what is happening in more detail. Remember we can't see your Mac or your iPhone so need detailed and accurate descriptions of what you're experiencing.
Also we need infomartion like do you have an iCloud account and are you logged into it on all of your devices, iPhoto and Mac? do you have Photo Stream enabled on both.
