IPhotos has randomly changed dates on my photos

I am very organized in iPhoto, I've been using it for years. I have 15,000 photos in my iPhoto library and since last week I have noticed that it is randomly redating my some of my photos. Last week I browsed through my library from the earliest date (2003) without modifying anything on any photos... since then it has randomly redated some of those photos. I have no idea how or why this has happened... any info anyone can give me as to why this happened or how to correct it would be greatly appreciated!! I take extreme care to organize each and every photo that I upload, this little issue is driving me crazy!
Thanks in advance!
Sarah

I have had a similar thing happen to me. At some point over the last year (perhaps during an upgrade?), iPhoto changed the dates of some photos in my library. The interesting thing is the pattern of the changes. iPhoto appears to have randomly selected anywhere from 1-3 photos from each of my events and then changed the dates of those photos. The dates inserted by iPhoto start in April of 2011 and advance by one day for each altered photo. For example, the altered photo from my library's first event (photos from 2001) is now dated April 4, 2011. The two altered photos from my second event (also 2001) are now dated April 5 and April 6, 2011. The one altered photo from my third event (2002) is now dated April 7, 2011. The photo altered from my sixtieth event (2007) is now dated sometime in June, 2011. I think you see the pattern. The photo(s) changed in each event seem to be randomly selected, and in some events no dates have been changed at all. It is not the end of the world (I can go through each event and correct the dates of the changed photos) but it is a big hassle as I have hundreds of events. Does anyone have an explanation as to what might have happened here?

  • Changing 'Date Created' on photos?

I have a number of scanned images, which I have imported into iPhoto. Of course, the 'Date Created' corresponds to the date I scanned the negative, and not to when the photo was taken.
I like the way I can sort photos by date order in iPhoto as it helps me find photos easily. However, the problem arises when my scanned images from 2003, for example, appear under August 2005!
Is there any way to modify the 'Date Created'? I can do it on the 'Info' pane within iPhoto '06, but this does not change the file attributes.
(I suppose I could put the date on my computer back a few year when scanning!!??)

    Glad that helped Tim.
To answer your question. Yes, you would have to export the scanned files out of iPhoto and reimport for iPhoto to reorganize using the new creation date.
As you outlined, I usually drag the photos out of iPhoto to the desktop or a "Scanned Photos" folder, etc. Then move the photos that are in iPhoto to iPhoto's trash (of course you will lose keywords, etc). This way they are out of the library. I then would make the date changes on the files dragged out of iPhoto, and then finally drag them back into iPhoto for importing.
Plus you can always organize the photos into separate folders after assigning the new dates so when importing, your roll names will be created as well. After importing, assign your keywords to the "new" pictures.
I just upgraded to iPhoto 6 about 10 days ago and never specified roll names in iPhoto5. The Year/Month/Day organization was fine with me. Keywords are my big thing and I really didn't care how iPhoto decided to house my photos. But after seeing the new iPhoto 6 directory structure, I ended up Viewing by Roll and assigning roll names, spliting where needed, etc).
Not sure if this will work out for you... depends on how many photos you are looking at changing!
    Good Luck!

  • PSE 10 organizer changing date times of photos

I have been having an issue since PSE9 which continues into PSE 10 organizer. After scaning photos and saving into organizer it will not allow assingment of jsut a year or a year month. If I take an old family photo and change date (scanned date) to year 1930 with unknown month it appears to take. Nect I time go into organizer it has changed the date to 12/31/1929. When I assign year and month with no date it will assing a day. PSE 10 also changes time of raw photos, keeps correct year, month, and day but changes time to the time file imported. If I correct the time it appears to take but it reverts back. This has become a major issue as I have over 16K of pictures and have scanned in thousands of old family photos, reasearching dates to use, it is extremetly frustarating to have a program that changes these settings.

PSE 10 organizer now displays SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES as the title for every imported image.  This is very annoying.   How to I prevent PSE from assigning this attribute to the title metadata upon import?   I have thousands of photos, and going through each one to delete the title isn't really an option.   Has anyone encountered this type of behavoir?

  • IPhoto has lost the link to the photo library

When I open iPhoto, it not longer pulls in my photo library.  I have a 2010 13 inch MacBook running OS X Lion 10.7.5 and iPhoto 9.4.3.  I don't know what caused it; I have done no recent updates.  I have backed up everything on a separate hard drive and also have a time machine backup.
I can tell that my photos are still on the computer because of the space that is taken up, but when I try to open photo library, it won't open.  Please help, too many photos that I don't want to lose.

Download and use  Find Any File  to search for a file named "Library6.iPhoto".  It's a file that is in every iPhoto library.  FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't, like invisible folders, system folders and packages.  If your library is somewhere on the hard drive FAF will find it.

  • IPhoto has suddenly scrambled dates on photos

Opened iPhoto today and noticed that a ton of 2+ yr. old photos are listed as created on various dates in 12/2007! I have updated as usual - whenever there's a new update, but have not done anything out of the ordinary. Has anyone else experienced this problem? It's days like today that I wish I didn't rely on technology to store my life's events...

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try rebuilding the library as follows: launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • IPhoto has stopped accepting new and old photos.

I have a 15" Macbook Pro thats about a year old running the newest version OS-X Tiger (10.4 I think it is).
    With:
2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    2 GB 667 MGz DDR2 SDRAM
Ok, my problem came to me tonight when I tried to organize my iPhoto library. Through the Macintosh HD>Pictures>iPhoto Library>Originals>2008>...I started renaming folders and moving .jpg's of various images into folders that would make more sense and be easier for myself to find. So rather than the folder Roll 45 I would rename it to something that would reflect the contents of the folder such as drawings, kayaking, etc.
The problem originally came about when there was a series of photos I had, every time I tried to view them instead of the picture I would get a question mark. And once I renamed all the folders and put the pictures where I wanted them, none of them started working (all showed up as question marks). All the photos under the 2007 folder still work.
So I think this has something to do with me renaming and moving everything, meaning the computer is looking for a folder that no longer has that name or has been deleted.
To try and solve this I moved all the photos in iPhoto that weren't working to the iPhoto trash, then emptied it. Then tried to re-import all the photos in their newly organized folders. And thats when I get an error that says exactly this: "The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)" then it gives me a list of all the files and their path that I tried to import.
I even tried this with new photos and it still wasn't working.
However, I have noticed that i'm able to import photos directly from my camera into iPhoto without a problem. But if I rename the folder name automatically the photos stop showing up. But if I put the name back to what I originally named it when first importing the photos everything will work again.
Now that I know the problem came about when I renamed folders, my question is now, How do I get the photos back into iPhoto without getting this error message? Theres no way I can go back to what everything was originally named, I did too much to remember.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You don't need to burrow into the iPhoto Library package via the Finder to find photos for use outside iPhoto. Read Terence Devlin's treatise on file access for use outside of iPhoto. It's the best explanation of how to do what you want available.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. • Iphoto will not change date

I have always scanned photos in and then changed the date to reflect the actual date the photo was taken.  Recently, I cannot change the date.  I type in the new year, but "adjust" remains greyed out.  On one batch of photos, it does not matter how many times I type 2003, iphoto just makes up a year.  1060, 1230, etc.  Help

    This should work.
If you place the Current Date field from the Custom object library, the field should show you the current system date whenever you open the form.

  • ITunes has randomly reassigned "date added"

I just noticed that my iTunes library has changed the date of lots of old files from 2005 and 2006 to 2/15/07. I don't know of anything that I did on that date that would cause this. It seems to be fairly random - not ordered alphabetically or by original date added.
It might seem like a small deal, but it's frustrating because I search for music chronologicially. Ack.
Any suggestions for restoring the original dates?

I've been trying to find a solution to the exact same problem which I'm also having.
So far no luck. This is really frustrating.

  • IPhoto has crashed and lost all my photos

I imported about 80 new photos earlier today and all was well. Later on I went to have a look at some of the new photos and iPhoto "unexpectedly quit". When it reopened I got a message saying "welcome to iPhoto" etc etc, basically it is as if it's reinstalled, but all my photos have vanished.
I've had a look on my HD and the photos are all there and open perfectly well in Preview, but if I try to import them into iPhoto I get a message telling me they couldn't be imported because they may be an unrecognised file type (they're all normal jpgs) or they may not contain valid data (but other apps can read them).
    Help!! Anyone have any ideas?

    Fegster
iPhoto won't import from the iPhoto Library Folder - a sensible precaution against duplication.
As you're database is corrupted your choices are limited. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library Folder allowing it to overwrite the damaged file. If not, then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same film rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • My iphoto has an error message when transfer photos from my iphone?

I have a MacBook Pro Mac OS X Version 10.6.8. Processor 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7. 4 GB memory  and an iPhone 4 - iOS 7.1.1 with 13.53 GB.

I received an error message and my photos will not transfer. I tried several things: ejecting my iPhone and disconnecting and turning off and on my computer.
I have never had problems with the iphoto transferring my photos but now I get an error message. This is the message I get: "iPhoto quit unexpectedly." Then OK or Reopen.

  • Iphoto has greyed out events with 0 photos

Perhaps this is baby steps but I've got istream up and running on my macbook air.
At the moment I have pictures taken in November which have events that are greyed out and say 0 photos. When I click on them the photos appear but I don't know how to make sure that they are going to stay?  Have I exceeded the 30 day stream time but I these are in the last 1000 photos?  If so, what to do to bring them in permanently?
My next step is to break down my huge library on my old mac and bring it over here and pitch it. That library is more than 60GB so I will want to move the meta data and whatever labeling etc I have done on my old iphoto.   I tried file export but I lose the event clustering so I think I have to chop it up into little libraries and then move those over.  I don't have a need to merge libraries after that.
    Am I making sense?

  • Iphoto recent upgrade - all Events gone. Photos there, sorted only by date. No events

Since the recent upgrade, the new iPhoto has eliminated all Events. The photos are there (I think they all are, but not sure) but there are no events, the photos are all just sorted by date (no titles/events). I had just finished organizing all Events days before the upgrade.
    Not happy with this upgrade.

    KEY WORDS: "until it's resolved"
Rest assured, the new Photos lack of ability to automatically add new photos as "Events" will be resolved in much the same way that many unwanted, unneeded, and for some users, workflow-crippling changes to Apple operating systems and related software are ever resolved:
    1. Apple will do nothing. If few people complain through the proper channels via Feedback, the product will remain as is, and users will either eventually adapt to the new organizing schemes, or will find and use another product that better fit our ways of thinking, manipulating, and organizing our digital images, all shaped by our existing libraries of images that were in iPhoto.
    -OR-
    2. If enough authentic and specific complaints (in the low millions, at least) are sent promptly and directly to Apple via Feedback, and if the complaints are precise and persistent, and continue relentlessly over a period of years, then some similar capability MIGHT be added later, in some future update, in a couple of years.  (Think OS X 10.13.1, "Ellis Island" or whatever geographic icon that future iteration might be named after. "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to import their digital images directly into "Events" once again…)
(There are of course many other possible scenarios, none of which involve returning iPhoto to the marketplace, nor "fixing" Photos to be like iPhoto was.)
    Not complaining*, simply explaining.
*Because registering outrage and frustration by complaining here in Apple Support Communities does absolutely nothing to ever resolve any issue with Apple. This is a only a user community that Apple allows to exist at it's pleasure. Apple does not officially monitor or ever officially respond to feedback here, and the moderators do not tolerate rants.
