Iphotos not loading in TP forums

When I work on a photo and export it to iphoto that works fine.  BUT in the last month when I go to get that photo from iphoto to import into another forum the image is not in iphoto.  If I reboot the image will appear in iphoto.  This is a pain to have to reboot every time I want to export a photo.  Does anyone know why this would happen?  This is o my iMac.

  • Iphoto not loading and appears to be symptom of another problem

The first problem I had was related to Iphoto not loading - it would just hang with the spinning wheel.
The only way to stop the application was to restart the iMac.
    Version of iphoto is 8.2.1.
I tried to do a "rebuild of the permissions". After 24 hours, I restarted the IMAC as it had the spinning wheel and nothing else. Restart was the only way to get control back.
I took a copy of the Iphoto db at this point. (yes I should have done that first but thought I had a backup ...read on)
I did a "Backup Now" with time machine - after 48 hours it was still spinning the wheel. Only way to stop it was a Restart.
I then looked into some other things
    - it appears that time machine has not backed up for some time. It says it has but I think it is stopping at the iphoto database for some time. ie I am not sure I have a clean backup.
    - at this point I have copied all my files (eg. itunes library etc) to an external drive
    - I can use all other programs successfully
    - I cleaned up some disk space
    - I ran the disk utility to 'Verify Permissions" - see output below
    - I thought it best to try and repair the iphoto database and make sure I still have the photos before I try anything more drastic eg. I am looking to upgrade to a more recent imac anyway
    - I tried to download a later version of iphoto (9.1 and 9.4.1 (?)
    - I came back to find a black screen and everything still whirring away in the background
    - I downloaded iphoto manager - I tried to run but got a "restart your machine panic" message
At this point I am scared to do anything else and make things worse and concerned about the recovering 10 years of photos. I have most of them elsewhere as well, but this could get very messy.
    Any ideas???

Hi, actually more important than Permission Repair, is Disk Repair.
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.

  • Iphoto not loading, option key does nothing

I read some of the other post but none has really helped. I am a Mac G4 and had to do a reinstall and now iPhoto will not load. I tried to hold the option key but nothing happens. My iPhoto Liberty is on a external hard drive. I am guessing this is causing the problem. Anything? I am on Tiger 10.4.11
I am not sure if I have 08 or older

Sounds like your Library is corrupt.
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • IPhoto not loading pictures

I am trying to help a co-worker. Her Macbook has iPhoto 6. When she clicks the icon in the dock, the app starts to open and you see the iPhoto window but nothing appears in the left pane (folder tree). The black loading wheel keeps spinning and says Pictures Loading but nothing actually loads. She actually has not used iPhoto for pictures before but now she was going to transfer pictures from a camera to iPhoto for another co-worker. I've trashed the iPhoto preference and checked permission which she has Read/Write. Her iPhoto Library folder has these files: Library.iPhoto and Library6.iPhoto. When I double click to open them, the iPhoto window opens but the black spinning gear with 'Pictures Loading' message appears but no pictures actually load (apparently since she doesn't have any). I appreciate your help with this!

Welcome to the Apple user discussion forums
QUit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library folder to the desktop and launch iPhoto and create a new library and you should be able to import into it - go through the one on the desktop carefully and if there are no photos there (they would be in the originals folder which you say is not there) you can trash it

  • Iphoto not loading, files in trash?

My iphoto stopped working.  It tries to load but just spins.  It appears my library/photos files are still intact.  I think the problem originated when, in an effort to clean up some recent photos, files were identified through Finder and sent to Trash.  Suspicious of that action I opened Trash, and found several items such as master.apmaster, printalbum.apalbum, and many others with the extension .apalbum, .apfolder, as well as a couple large files properties.apdb and imageproxies.apdb which ended up in there too!   Assuming this is the source of my problem, can  I just drag the files back from trash? and where do I drop them?....to the harddrive icon or do they need to go somewhere more specific?    Should I just drag all my trash back just to be sure I don't miss anything, or are there some specific parameters I should look for?  (For the record, I am not exactly a computer whiz and would appreciate any help!)

Those files are components of the iPhoto Library Package.  As of now that library is history.  The best you can do is either restore the backup copy of the library made just prior to this problem occurring
How is your external HD that is used to backup your boot drive formatted?  If it's not OS X Extended (journaled) you have a very good chance of not having a useable backup library.
    or do the following:
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • Macbook Pro does not load images in forums

I have a Macbook Pro and my roommates have Macbooks. We all visit the same website forum in which many people post images. These images load automatically for the Macbook users but on my Macbook Pro there is a link to the picture that I have to click if I want to see it, and the image will load in a new tab. This occurs in both Firefox and Safari. Is there some reason why the images load on a Macbook but not my Pro? What can I do to change this?

It would help to know what site it is. My guess is that it is likely an option within the user account of that site. Many forums provide an upload option, but will usually result in a thumbnail image that needs to be clicked on. It is quite possible that your friends are using a service like Photobucket to upload their images, and embedding them within their posts.

  • IPhoto not loading in iLife, iWork, Bento etc - corrupt file?

    Hi there,
for about 6 months now iPhoto has not been loading in the media pane of various apps. I am working along the lines of it being an iPhoto problem. Someone on here suggested it might be a corrupted photo file.
If so how might I go about isolating the problem.
I have reinstalled ilife, iwork, 9.0.3 update, updated to snow leopard etc etc with no joy so maybe its the photo library.
Any tips greatly appreciated as I'm a trainer and look stupid when my macbookpro doesn't load up properly!
    Cheers
    Pete (London)

Go to your Pictures Folder (or wherever you have your Library) and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a two xml files.
    AlbumData.xml
    AlbumData2.xml
Drag them to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
Start iPhoto. This will recreate those files.
    Then restart the other apps.
IF that fails, where is the Library stored?

    What does this mean:
I went into the pictures library and reduced sizes of pictures.
Can you explain to use, step by step, what you did?
    As to the crash:
    Start with the troubleshooting basics:
    1. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    2. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
    3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

  • New iPhoto not loading photos from CD or time machine

Our hard drive recently failed and we got it replaced.  When they replaced our HD, they upgraded us to Mac OS X 10.6.8 and iPhoto 9.1.5.  We hooked time machine up to restore our old photos and they initially showed up on iPhoto, then most disappeared (thumbnails are now black.  Photo names are still there, but pictures are gone.  When I click on the black thumbnail, I get an exclamation point).  SOME of the pictures loaded, at least half are gone.  I've tried the tricks of command-option clicking iPhoto and clicking all the boxes and downloading iphoto manager.  Nothing.  Then we tried importing an old CD of pictures and they aren't showing up at all (it says "no photos").
So... What's going on?  I want my pictures back!

5956 photos could not be copied because they could not be found in the original library.  Click the "View Log" button to see which photos could not be found.

  • IPhoto not loading after installing Mavericks

Hello, I have just took ownership of a secondhand macbook pro (october 2011 model - 15.4) ... it came complete with applecare and im very happy with it, it came set back to factory settings and ive installed the operating system that came inbuilt to the machine (osx7.5) .. however i have just updated to mavericks and the iPhoto is not functioning ..the camera icon has a line through it and when I go to update as suggested in the app. store the previous users Apple id name cannot be removed and it wont allow me to update it under my apple ID .. I am prepared to pay for this application but cant even buy or download it off apples site, any advise on how I can get iPhoto (the main reason for me buying a macbook) would be much appreciated
    thanks for your time, Robert

    Hi robertdurkin,
If you are having issues with the previous owner's software and/or Apple ID remaining on your new Mac, you may want to make sure that you did a full format and install of the OS. You may find the following article helpful:

  • Photocast Subscription in iPhoto Not Loading

I subscribed to two photocasts published from MobileMe in iPhoto. It gives me the names of the two albums under "Source" but I get this error when trying to update:
**The Photocast at http://gallery.me.com could not be found or is invalid.**
However, it shows the dashed outline of the correct number of pictures in each album and has the appropriate album name listed.

  • Safari + iphoto not loading

A few weeks ago I tried opening Safari - only to find it would bounce on the dock but not open. Tried opening it from its original location with the same results. I've had some issues with Safari in the past, so I thought maybe it was the most recent update - tried to delete/uninstall it, and reinstall an older version. When I tried to reinstall the older version, it only reminded that I had a newer version of Safari already on this computer so I was unable to install this version. I gave up and have been using Firefox, but I prefer Safari significantly.
Today I tried to open iPhoto. Same situation, bouncing on the dock but not opening.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

    Hi and welcome...
When multiple applications won't launch, it's time to boot from your install disc. Run Disk Utility to verify and if necessary repair any errors on the startup disk.
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
(In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first from the installer menu)
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space

so i was in the midst of creating a photobook, when my computer froze. i had to restart it, which appeared to be fine. then later, while working on the photobook, i put it to sleep, and when i woke it, there was a message reading "your computer has crashed, please restart" or something like that.
