  • Migrating iPhoto to Mac Pro/Leopard

My iPhoto library is on an external hard disk. I'm migrating to a Mac Pro and iPhoto 7.1.2 from a G4. I am not using Migration Assistant. I want to leave the iPhoto library on the external hard disk. But, I want to import my library reference to my new iPhoto/Mac Pro. What would be the best way to go about this move?
Any tips would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    m

you do NOT import - you simply tell iPhoto where the library is - be sure your EHD is connected and launch iPhoto with the option (alt) key depressed and select the select library option - point to the iPhoto library on your EHD

  • HT4052 IPhoto 812  mac pro laptop

I have this app on my Apple Mac Pro but it has corrupted and not showing any of my pictures on my computer.  The pictures are all there under "all images" in my I Library but I cannot open them.  I tried downloading the app again but can't remember admin pw to install it on the laptop and to be honest is not all that sure that it was the way to go anyway.  Does anyone have any idea how to get my pictures and events back on Iphoto.  There are weird pictures showing on the IPhoto that are certainly not mine.

I take it you're running iPhoto 8.1.2 so give this a try (just the same as Larriy's suggestion but with pictures ):  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Where is my iPhoto on mac pro?

where is m=iphoto on the mac book pro ?
    Not standard ?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If you have just purchased the MacBook Pro, iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand are free for you, but they don't come preinstalled. Instead, open App Store, go to Purchases tab and accept iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, so they will start downloading and they will be installed. Then, they will be registered to your Apple ID, so you will be able to install it on other Macs for free (using your Apple ID)

  • When I connect my iPad to my new Mac Pro, I can't see my pictures

When I connect my iPad to my new Mac Pro, I can't see my pictures on iPhoto in Mac Pro under devices.I want to import my photos from iPad to Mac Book. Can you please help me?
    Thanks and regards,

Oops ... You are correct. I misread your question. My sincere apologies. You want to import the photos from the iPad into iPhoto - not the other way around.
Connect the iPad to the Mac with the cable and launch iPhoto. Your iPad should appears under the devices heading in iPhoto - in the left sidebar - just like it does in iTunes. Click on the iPad name. Then you can import the photos.

  • IPhoto betweens Macs (copy posted on MobileMe thingy as well)

    Copied:
Any insights before making a feature request?
Most of my images are on a dedicated drive on Mac Pro.
MobileMe makes for lovely, superb and incredible syncing with my iPhone.
On the other hand using iPhoto on MacBook Pro allows me to "share" but I am an awkward user.
I don't want to "share" I want to sync iPhoto between Mac Pro and MacBook Pro as easily as I can sync between Mac Pro and iPhone.
    Doable?
    (or feature request?)

There're an application that will keep both of your two iPhoto libraries on the two Macs synced so they contain the same photos in each. However, both libraries must be the same version and the synced photos will not bring with them their keywords and other metadata. It's called iPhotoSync
    Here's how it works:
    1 - it compares the databases and/or album.xml files of Libraries A and B.
2 - the files in A that are not in B are imported into B by copying the original files from A into B's Import folder.
3 - it then does the same for B.
4 - metadata is not copied.
5 - it can be password protected to prevent unauthorized use.
It can be used to just copy from A to B and not sync both ways if desired.
So connect the two Macs together (best to not be wireless) and have iPhotoSync running on each.
If you want to have the metadata information included then you'll have to use iPhoto Library Manager as Terrence suggested and manually select the events or albums to move from A to B and then the same for B to A.

  • I put my mac pro to share with my mac desktop.  Iphoto was upgraded from 8.2.1 and I can no longer access iphoto on the mac book pro. I have tried library manager but that does not work.  Any suggestions?

I have a mac pro which I recently made to share with my mac desktop.  iphoto was updated on the mac pro from 8.2.1 and I can no longer open iphoto.  I get an error message You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto.  The only option is for me to quit.  I have tried to restore with no luck.  I tried reinstalling using my Application CD.  Help?????

when you opened the shared library with the newer version of iPhoto (iPhoto '11) you were given a warning that your library would be converted and could not be used by older versions - you clicked ok to go ahead - there is no updo available - either upgrade to iphoto '11 of the MBP or load your backup of the iPhoto '09 library on it - older versiopns of i{Photo can not read newer libraries

  • Migration to iPhoto 6 AND Intel Mac Pro at the same time

I am about to move my life to a new Mac Pro. Included in the move is an iPhoto 5 Library with 19 000 images.
The iPhoto Library is backed up, of course, and there are multiple redundant copies of all the images on remote hard drives.
The question is, should I upgrade iPhoto 5 to iPhoto 6 PPC version (and let iPhoto 6 PPC reorganize the Library) on the old Mac FIRST, and then move the iPhoto 6 Library over, or is it OK to move the iPhoto 5 Library to the new Mac intact and let iPhoto 6 (Intel version) do the reorganizing?
Also, are there preference files from iPhoto 5 that have to go over to preserve the Library structure (rolls, comments, etc)?
    Thanks.

    James
Simply copy the iPhoto Library Folder from your Pictures folder to the same location on the new machine. Then, to deal with any file permission issues: Download BatchMod from
    http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
And apply it to the iPhoto Library Folder using the settings found here:
    http://homepage.mac.com/toad.hall/.Pictures/Forum/BatChmod.png
(Credit to Old Toad for this one).
Then launch iPhoto on the new machine and it will do the rest.

  • I would like to copy my iPhoto (9.4.1) library from my Mac Pro (10.7.5) to a Macbook Pro (10.7.5). Can I drag the iPhoto Library to Air Drop and send them to the MacBook? Will that then be a usable iPhoto library on the Macbook?

If I then move that to the Pictures folder on the MacBook will that then be a usable iPhoto library on the Macbook?

It would be better if you could connect the two Macs via a hard wired LAN to copy the library from the Mac Pro to the MacBook.  Wireless connections can have momentary dropouts which could affect the reliable copying of files.
If you do go with Air Drop be sure to open and inspect the copied library closely to confirm it was a successulf copy.

  • How do I redirect my IPhoto Folder from 1st hard drive to 2nd hard drive on my Mac Pro ?

How do I redirect my IPhoto folder on my first hard drive (500 GB) to the the second hard drive (1TB) in my Mac Pro.  I don't want a copy, but to move it away from the smaller HD, as it is almost at max!!
I started with drag and drop from one HD to next HD, but it looked as if it was just going to be a copy.

  • How to uninstall old iphoto and reinstall it in old Mac Pro (new iphoto not compatible)

I can't install the new iPhoto in my Mac Pro (2006-2007 model) but my old iPhoto is not working, won't open and I can't uninstall it and install it again.
Any ideas how to do it?
    Thanks

You probably do not need to
99.9% of the time iPhoto problems are not related to the application but to the library
However we need details - not just "it doesn't work"
What version of ihoto? Of the OS? How does it not work? What exactly happens? what recently changed since it sorked?
If you do need to reinstall you reinstall from the original source

  • How do i upgrade from 6.0.6 to the latest version of iPhoto . I have a mac pro with OS 10.7.5 ?

How do i upgrade from 6.0.6 to the latest version of iPhoto . I have a mac pro with OS 10.7.5 ?

The latest version of iPhoto  - 9.5.1 -  requires MacOS X 10.9.x.  Is it possible to upgrade your Mac to Mavericks? Then you can buy the latest iPhoto from the AppStore.
If your Mac does not support Mavericks, you could upgrade to iPhoto 9.4.3, see:  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1650  , but this version is no longer availbale from the AppStore. Buy a boxed retail version of iPhoto '11 from Amazon or eBay, and then update it from the support page  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1650  .

  • Why can't I open and retrieve my files from iPhoto and my address book after importing the files from my Power mac G5 to my new Mac Pro? I get a warning that says the new OS on my Pro doesn't open files from a Power Mac. Any idea how I can fix this?

For your addressbook, export the files to vCard on the PowerMac, then bring them over to your Mac Pro. For your iPhoto, copy the Users -> yourname -> Pictures folder to your Desktop on the Mac Pro, and open iPhoto on the Mac Pro holding the command and option keys.  Select the library file from that Pictures folder and open it.  It should import all the pictures into iPhoto as part of the rebuild process.  Other PowerPC to Intel migration issues are covered here: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295
