IPhotos won't show pictures after replacing Harddrive

Hi,
Recently I had my Harddrive replaced to a larger one and I was told everything would be transferred over. However when I got the MAC Book back there was no iPhoto application so I had to re-install the iLife disc. Once I did this it automatically imported all the pictures back on to iPhoto's and all the albums have come back however the pictures are grayed out and I cannot view them.
I have tried the command & control suggestion but none of the options work. I have also tried to rebuild using iPhoto manager but I get an error saying something along the lines of 'cannot rebuild as orignal files cannot be found'.
Unfortunately I was not able to back any of it up as my other hardrive was full & would not complete the back-up but I was told it was not necessary as it would all be transfered across.
Is there any other options that anyone can sugguest? I have over 6,000 pictures scanning the past 5 years which I really cannot loose.
Thanking you in advance.
Zoe

Your reply is unclear.
Are your photo in the Masters (or Originals) folder. That's a straight yes or no.
I ask because you say
Unfortunately not
and then say
There are files there

  • Iphoto won't show pictures of my connected iPhone4 anymore. Why?

since a few days it isn't possible to see or transfer photos of my iPhone 4 in iPhoto '11.
It was possible before with same iPhone and same miniMAC.
You can see, that the iPhone is shown in iPhoto and on the right top corner you see,
'Laden...' which should load the photos from the iPhone to be shown in the preview window.
BUT, this window won't change anymore altough after long time...
    (Please see screenshot below)
Does anybody has an idea how i can reactivate it?
Is it something i have to adjust on the miniMAC or on my iPhone?
    Thanks for your guess

Do other applications show the iPhone and its photos, for example "Image Capture (Digitale Bilder)"?
If not, then reset your iPhone: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
And if necessary, restore it: see:  restoring iOS  software  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If only iPhoto cannot show the photos on your iPhone, repair your iPhoto Library.
Hold down the keys ⎇⌘, while launching iPhoto and keep holding them down, until you are seeing this panel:  Try "Zugriffsrechte reparieren" and "Datenbank reparieren".
Before trying "Datenbank neu anlegen", don't forget to make a backup.

  • Iphoto won't show pictures in events

Maybe it's something somebody else asked already but here it goes..
I've a Macbook pro, bought in septembre 2011, with latest version of Iphoto...
I downloaded mountain lion a few days ago and ever since Iphoto acts a little weird.
Today I wanted to show a picture from an event but there were no pictures, still if I open the photo menu with all my photos I can see them.
If I open some event and I click then on the latest opened event under the recent section I can see all of them.
The only thing I can see if I open an event is "no pictures" next to the arrows on the right corner.
    Can someone help me?
    Greets
    Tom

I added a couple of events to the Apple TV, they all displayed chronologically.
I removed the events from the Apple TV and changed one of the photo titles in an event so that alphabetically they weren't in the same order as they were chronologically, then added the event back to the Apple TV. I checked the event had gone from the Apple TV while I did this. Once again it displayed chronologically on the Apple TV.
As iPhoto had been set to display the event chronologically all this time, I removed the event from the Apple TV and set iPhoto to view by title (the order changed in iPhoto), then added the event back to the Apple TV. It was still in chronological order.
I then changed the date (made it a year earlier) on the photo I had changed the title on, originally it was somewhere in the middle both alphabetically and chronologically, now it was last alphabetically and first chronologically. I added the event back to the Apple TV and sure enough, it was displayed first.
Indeed whatever I did I was unable to get the event to show in anything but chronological order.
For the avoidance of doubt, you are viewing slideshows and not the screensaver aren't you.

  • Pictures in iPhoto do not show up after being moved to external hard drive.

I moved an iPhoto library to an external hard drive.  When I created this library I did not tick on "Copy items to the iPhoto library" when importing.  I wanted to keep the pictures in the folders neatly.  These folders were moved to the external hard drive along with the iPhoto library.  However, when I tried to go to Find -> Original File/Modified File it said that the picture was not found.  When in actuality, the folders of the original files had been moved to the external drive.
I understand one solution is to create a brand new iPhoto library with these pictures in my external hard drive.  However, when I do that I loose all the photo albums which were created in the internal hard drive.  Is there a way to move the iPhoto to external hard drive and still have the links work, and not lose my albums?

This is the primary reason why experienced users recommend not using a referenced library. Simply, there is no way to move it without braking the path to the photos, and short of hacking the SQL database, there is no way to update the paths except for each photo, one by one.
I wanted to keep the pictures in the folders neatly.
Doing what you have done means more work, moe complexity and no extra power at all. It's uttterly unnecessary. iPhoto keeps the files quite neatly itself. But that simply doesn't matter as you never access the files via the FInder anyway.
Now you need to decide what you want to do.
If you return the Library and the Files to exactly where they were on your internal you can the  recreate the Library - but only as a managed library - with iPhoto Library Manager
If that worries you from the point of view of accessing the files then have a read of this:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4491
If you purchase Aperture ($70 on the App Store) then you can use it's Relocate Masters command to move the originals and the Library to the external.
Or, if you feel like hacking an SQL database you can read how to do that here
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3216539?tstart=30
Not for the faint hearted, and be sure to back up first.
For my money: rebuild as a Managed Library. It's easier going forward, saves work, and means you never have to face this issue again.

  • IPhoto won't show Photoshop Elements 6 editing.

When I drag a photo from iPhoto into Photoshop Elements 6 and edit then save it, the edits do not show in IPhoto. What am I doing wrong. Right now I'm doing a work-around of saving to desktop, importing and merging events but this is tedious. I thought Photoshop was supposed to be compatible with iPhoto. I am running iPhoto 8 with Photoshop Elements 6 on a PowerBook G4 and Leopard OS.

Although you've solved your problem there may be some info in this tip that will help:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • IPhoto won't save photos after using crop feature...

Okay, I don't understand if I am doing something wrong or what, but I am trying to crop and iPhoto doesn't save the pics.
This is what I am doing...I open a picture in iPhoto, click the 'crop' button, then drag the borders where I want it to crop, then I click 'done.' The 'saving changes' box with the blue & white progress bar never pops upadn ,it just shoots me back to the thumbnail screen. When I look at the file, nothing has been cropped, and I even reopen the file, and again, nothing cropped.
If I open a picture and use the 'effects' button and make changes, it saves with no problem. It just doesn't want to save any crops.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Sportscrazed33:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You have to hit the crop button after selecting the area to crop. If you're cropping to a predetermined ratio that's in the Constrain menu it will automatically select an area to crop that you can then adjust. You don't need to hit the Crop button before selecting the area. Then hit the Done button. It's not intuitive but that's the way it is.
    Do you Twango?

  • IPhoto won't show my iCloud Streams

    iPhoto 9.6.1 (910.42)
    OS X Yosemite 10.10.2
    1.8 GHz Intel Core i7
    4GM 1333 MHz DDR3
Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
77.33 GB free on Flash Storage HD
My iPhoto Shared iCloud won't show any of My Photo Streams, just old photos.
I haven't been able to find any way to get them all to show so I came here to ask if anyone else has had this problem and, if so, what they did to fix the issue.
    Thank you.
    Rio

Do you have iPhoto's iCloud preferences set as shown in this screenshot?
If you do and it's not displaying the My Photo Stream or Shared Photo Streams try the following:
Disable Photo Stream in the System/iCloud preference pane
and in iPhoto's iCloud preference pane.
Reboot and reenable both respectively. That should jump start Photo Stream.

  • Some image imports from Photoshop won't show in After Effects

    I NEED HELP ASAP
I'm creating an app and I used Photoshop. Imported the psd file into After effects. But somehow all the images won't show, only text.
I'm trying to animate it so it looks like a normal scroll up and down from an iPhone. But all the images which are off screen won't show up once I drag it into screen but at the same time the text are all fine. What is wrong? I definitely imported the psd file correctly, since I did it with another project a couple days ago.
Please help. Due date is Monday.
The only thing what's differnt is. The images are all in a clipping mask in Photoshop. All the circles are white shapes and I put the images as clipping mask to that.
Once I scrolled it up I can't see the images. This is how it suppose to be

Did you try to make your Photoshop canvas larger? I'm pretty sure that would solve it.

  • Iphoto won't upload pictures from iphone anymore

Hi there, whilst I was uploading my photos from my iphone to iphoto, my macbook battery died (eventhough it said 35 mins left-but that's a different story!) when i reconnected everything iphoto won't let me upload - it keeps saying 'iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image.' No pictures are actually in iphoto from the upload when the battery died so I don't know why it keeps saying this. I tried using Image capture but this didn't work either...Can someone help please?

I updated my phone to iOS 7.1.1 since writing my post, and that seemed to fix the problem. Thank you!

  • Lost power to external HD; Now iPhoto won't show photos

    Hi all,
This is a really easy one. I store all my photo from iPhoto '08 (Version 7.1.5) on an external HD. I accidentally disconnected the power to my external HD and now iPhoto won't load the photos. It created some kind of default folder where there are just 2 photos in it.
How do I tell iPhoto to point to the files on my external HD?
    Thanks

Eject the drive, choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, provide /Volumes/ as the path, move any folders inside to the desktop or Trash as desired, and reconnect the drive.

  • Reminders window won't show up after clicking in notifications center

After clicking a notificytion in notifications center on Mavericks the APP Reminders opens but the application window is not showing up. Allways worked like a charme but not any longer for me.
    I tried to:
    1) uncheck the iClound sync for Reminders while Reminders.app ist closed which deletes all local data!
    2) logout my user
    3) login again
    4) open Reminders
    5) check the iCloud sync for Reminders again
After this procedure, Reminder is working again for a day, then again the Reminders window is not showing up, after clicking a notification or open the Reminders.app manualy.
    Why is this, any hints?
    Cheers

In addition: after I went thru the steps above the applications runs without problems until I close the app again. When now reopening the app will show no windows.

  • Some pictures in iPhoto won't show or copy, but they're there

I'm using iPhoto 9.2.2. Did an update from the App Store just last week but didn't notice if this problem had anything to do with that update.
On some Events, some pictures seem to be missing. At first when I open the Event some of the thumbnails are there and some are thumbnails of one same random picture of wallets that I didn't even realize I had in my Library (I might have added it by accident). After a few seconds all of these thumbnails turn into grey ones, as if the picture wasn't there, but when I double click it I'm able to open most of the missing pictures normally - not all. Here's a screenshot:
When I first open the Event all of the missing photos look like the one with the wallets, but after a few seconds they all turn grey like the bottom ones, except for the ones that seem normal from the beggining. iPhoto says the Event has 88 photos and that includes the greyed out/wallet ones. When I open each of them, some show me a normal picture and some show me a blank page. I can't copy the Event or any of these individually. This is happening with more than one Event, but not all. I suspect if might only be happening with merged Events, but I can't be sure. I also suspect it might have something to do with pictures that have the same name as other pictures in my Library.
I would try to rebuild my library, but the whole reason why I'm trying to copy these pictures is that I just lost my backup drive. So this IS my backup right now. These are pictures I never really look at so I have no idea when this started. I also can't seem to find the real wallet picture to see what would happen if I deleted it. I think I must have saved it accidentaly from the internet.
    Help?

If you have the space available on your hard drive and don't aready have a backup copy of the library make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Iphoto won't display photos after a certain date

    Hi,
I am having trouble with iPhoto 9.5.1
I just restored my Mac from a Time Machine back up using Migration Assistant after the internal hard drive stopped working and had to be replaced.  I am now running OSX 10.9.3 on a late 2009 iMac.  When I first reopened iPhoto after the restore, it asked me if I wanted to upgrade my iPhoto library, which I did.  Then it told me it needed to repair permissions, which I did.  Then it asked me to update iPhoto to the latest version, which I did.  Only after that did I notice that when I double click on the thumbnails the photo won't enlarge - I get a grey triangle with an exclamation mark in it instead.  The thumbnails appear okay until I click on them, and the info (date, camera, file size etc) all looks normal.  I have tried repairing permissions again, as well as repairing and rebuilding the database.
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Tom

The connection between the thumbnails and original image files has been lost when restoring from Time Machine. Try to rebuild the restored library using iPhoto Library Manager:
    You can download it here: iPhoto Library Manager ;
use the "Rebuild" function from the library menu.
Rebuilding will create a new library and copy most of the items from the old library to the new library. Only books, cards, calendars will be missing.
See Terence Devlin's post for more details:  Re: iPhoto 9.5.1 - Unable to repair permissions
