IPlanet 4.0 iPlanet4.1SP9

Hi
I recently installed iPlanet4.1SP9 and I ran into some problems. I would like to know if there is a need to install ver4.0 or 4.1 first before installing SP9 ??
thanks

Hi menghaw,
You need not install ver4.0 over 4.1,iPlanet 4.0 and 4.1 are same except with few bugs been fixed and with few enhancements. came out as different versions.
Please be more precise on what kind of problem you encountred? It would be helpful to give solution to that problem. SP9 is an inbuilt patch for iws.

  • I am using iPlanet Enterprise Server 4.1sp7,

and I want to set up customized error responses. I have entered the file name of a valid html file in the "Error Response" link under the "preferences tab" for the server. However, it is not working, all I get is the default browser error page. Any ideas?

    Damien,
Did you try entering in the absolute path to the file and not just the filename? Also, did you do a save and apply of the change so that the webserver process restarts and reloads the obj.conf changes?
I tested this with iPlanet Web Server 4.1sp9 and it seems to be working properly there.

  • Warning found on port https (443/tcp)  using Nessus 2.0.0

We are doing some security checking on our servers and found out that our secure website which runnning on iPlanet-WebServer-Enterprise/4.1SP9 gives us the following information.
Warning found on port https (443/tcp)
The SSLv2 server offers 4 strong ciphers, but also 0 medium strength and 2 weak "export class" ciphers. The weak/medium ciphers may be chosen by an export-grade or badly configured client software. They only offer a limited protection against a brute force attack.
Can anyone explain what does it mean with "The weak/medium ciphers may be chosen by an export-grade or badly configured client software.". Is it not secure for us to use the export version of iPlanet Webserver or is there a way to make it secure ? Or is it OK for us to keep on using the current iPlanet webserver.
    Regards,

During the SSL handshake the client and server will identify their supported ciphers. Since you have the "weak/export" ciphers enabled a client could specify that it will only accept these low grade ciphers and thereby negotiate something that is more easily hacked than something with stronger ciphers.
If you disable the "weak" ciphers then the server will refuse to accept connections from clients that don't support the stronger ciphers.

  • What do these SSL error messages mean?  How do I fix this problem? (SSL_ERROR_CERTIFICATE_UNKNOWN_ALERT) & (SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_ALERT - SSL client cannot verify your certificate.)

In my error log files for iPlanet Web server 4.1SP9 (running on Solaris) I am seeing the following errors sporadically dispersed seemingly at random throughout the day.
    Error receiving connection (SSL_ERROR_CERTIFICATE_UNKNOWN_ALERT)
Error receiving connection (SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_ALERT - SSL client cannot verify your certificate.)
    Error receiving connection (Not connected)

    Hi -
Was there any resolution to this? We have the same problem currently. While
the timeout was due to our long transaction and we'll optimise on that, but we
don't want the plugin to retry. We tried setting IDEMPOTENT OFF and it didn't
    work either.
    Any help appreciated. Thx.

    HELP!!

    Hi,
You have not set the jspengine path to your environment. add the two line to your environment variable.
Remember, the directory structure for the following line may vary. use your directory structre. i have used iws6.0
    c:/iPlanet/Servers/bin/https/jar/servlet.jar;
c:/iPlanet/Servers/bin/https/jar/jspengine.jar *.java; { there must be a space after the jar }..
Also in your web administration server, under global settings/configure jdk/jre paths, make sure the radio button JDK is checked.
Once you made all the settings, restart the server and try.
    Good Luck,

  • IPlanet 4.1SP9 *hangs* when shutting down

I just moved our iPlanet 4.1SP9 web servers from a Solaris 2.6 box to a
Solaris 2.8 box and now the port 80 (http) server hangs EVERY time I try to
stop it. This never happened on Solaris 2.6. I even tried re-installing
rather than copying the entire server4 directory over and it still hangs.
This is very annoying. Has anyone else experienced this ?

Have you checked to see if a file called 'wdnotify' exists under your instance directory? This file is normally created during a instance shutdown, and is supposed to be deleted after the startup. However, if a failure occurs the file may not be removed, and it will then keep you from properly starting the instance.

  • IPlanet 4.1SP9 locks up with WL 6.1SP2 libroxy.so

I'm performing interactive tests with approximately 25 users with SSL enabled on
my iPlanet 4.1SP9 server running on Solaris 8. The system continues to hang and
the iPlanet server processes do not respond to restart commands issued from the
commandline or through the iPlanet admin UI. I'm forced to kill the iPlanet processes
and restart them then the system behaves correctly.
I'm running WL 6.1SP2 and have installed and configured the libroxy.so proxy library
provided with this version. The webserver is configured correctly, therefore
I believe that this is related to the proxy library. Has anyone seen this before?
    ray

I got some progress after digging into appendix
    of adminGuide.
I added two more paramaters into obj.conf
    service directive:
    <Object name="weblogics" ppath="*/weblogics/*">
    Service fn="wl_proxy" WebLogicHost="wsl61.test.com" WebLogicPort="7002" Pat\
    hTrim="/weblogics" SecureProxy="ON" TrustedCAFile="/usr/netscape/server4/alias/\
    ca.pem"
    </Object>
    When I tried:
    https://iplanet.test.com:443/weblogics/
It didn't hang. The browser showed:
No backend server available for connection: timed out after 10 seconds.
But I tested backend server. It was alive.
    Anyone got this working?
    Thanks.

  • Deploy JSP to IPlanet

How do I deploy a JSP application using dataTags on I-Planet? I was able to deploy an application using beans however the JSP's that use dataTags do not run.

Unlike Tomcat, iPlanet4.1 does not seem to have web.xml to setup the datatags configuration.
I have got a Datatags jsp working on iplanet4.1 on my side.
The only extra step i did from the
deployment of JSP's with webbeans is that
I copied DataTags.tld file into the root directory of iPlanet webserver.
    ex:-
    root directory = c:\Netscape\server4\Docs
I created a "webapp" directory under the above one
and copied "DataTags.tld" file into c:\Netscape\server4\Docs\webapp
then I created a simple jsp file which browses the Dept ViewObject using DataTags
    ex:- DeptView_Browse.jsp
I deployed the jsp file into
    c:\Netscape\server4\Docs\datatags_html\DeptView_Browse.jsp
here "datatags_html" was the directory used as HTML root in JDeveloper.
Others I assume you already setup are
BC4J Runtime libraries as part of classpath of iPlanet4.1, this should include jbohtml.zip
    your BC4J Appmodule jar file

  • IPlanet Plug in For WebLogic 5.1 SP9

At the client site we are using PeopleSoft 8.3, Weblogic 5.1 SP9 with iPlanet proxy
servers. The client is using 5.1ps6a plugin. The application does not function
with this plug in. The client has another plugin 6.1sp4 with that WL5.1 Sp 9
gives NASAPI plugin errror that follows:
    Message from the NSAPI plugin:
No backend server available for connection: timed out after 10 seconds.
    Build date/time: Sep 18 2002 16:55:57
    Change Number: 208523
My questions, do BEA has 5.1Sp9 plugin?
Why NSAPI plugin errors while using 6.1sp4 plugin?
What else would fix the problem:
    Thanks

A first step will be to enable logging for the proxy plugin. You do
this by adding the line Debug=ON in the obj.conf server directive.
Verify your steps in the following doc:
    http://www.weblogic.com/docs51/admindocs/nsapi.html
This Debug creates a file /tmp/wlproxy.log. This file will help you
troubleshoot the issue for proxy-plugin for the 5.1 and 6.1 instances.
Post the log file and lets see what happens...

  • IPlanet: strange RequestDispatcher behaviour

Appreciate if any iPlanet super-expert can give insights on the following scenario:
In our servlet, we used a request dispatcher to forward the processing to a JSP as in :
         RequestDispatcher rd = getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher(physicalPath);
         rd.forward(request, response);
And on most of our JSP pages, we used jsp:include or jsp:forward to chain the processing to another JSP for rendering.
It seems these calls is taking up very long time before the target (included/forwared to) JSP is actually start executing, we noticed this because we've inserted flags into all our JSPs.
The log shows, the server used roughly 25min and 2sec to process this request, however, before each JSP got started, it waited for a 6.5, 13.5 and 5 mins , a total of roughly 25 min !!! Hence the actual processing time spend is very minimal.
During the processing, there are plenty of room in the CPU and RAM resources as suggested in platform log.
Please advise if you want to see the extract of log file to resolve the problem. I can post it. Thanks.

Make sure you are on the latest service pack of iWS 4.1sp9 or 6.0sp2. There was a problem with this in some of the 4.1 service packs.
