IPlanet 4.1 Web Server - ns-cron process hangs for log rotation

Does anybody know if there is a known issue with iPlanet 4.1 Web Server where the ns-cron log rotation process hangs up?
Basically it won't rotate any logs, and using either the "Stop" or "Restart" buttons in the console won't shut it down, so you have to kill it manually, then start it again.
It seems like it will run for a couple days fine, then it will hang up.
Thanks.

Nope, I've not seen this before. But 4.1 version is really old and no longer supported, you should consider upgrading to a supported version.

  • No response from web server after a process ran for 1-2 minutes

    Hi,
I have a proven pl/sql code, it took about 2+ minutes to complete in sqlplus.
But when I created a button to process the exactly same code in APex application, the process runs about 2 minutes and
applications bombs with this msg "No Response from web server".
Has anyone gotton this msg before?
    Thanks,

    Hi Julie,
See this thread - it may had some extra considerations for you: OHS Webserver Timeout for long running requests
Do you know if your error message is returned at a fixed time each time? You could test this by creating a procedure that sleeps for X amount of time and then vary X to see if you can find a cutoff point for losing the connection.
Also - I assume that your process keeps running on the database, despite the webserver connection being lost?
If it's not a limitation in your httpd.conf file (the default is 5 mins as others have pointed out), then perhaps your network colleagues have set something in your network configuration to kill connections longer than a certain period of time? This is what happened in my case.
    Hope this helps.

  • Mail crashes my web server - too many processes

Just a bit of information for anyone out there who has found their web server having trouble during access by Leopard Mail.
I have 1 computer using Leopard. The Mail app is setup with 5 accounts (i.e. orders, service, accounting, etc.). The accounts are all IMAP. Our website is hosted at Bluehost.com.
Mail starts so many processes accessing these 5 accounts simultaneously (instead on serially one after another) that it maxs out my web server processes and renders anything that needs additional processes such as FrontPage extensions, PHP, etc. unavailable. I'm not sure if the problem is associated with how many or improper closure of processes but I can tell you this. Mail with 1 user breaks my server and quitting Leopard Mail closes all of the processes and restores the functionality of my web server.
Apple...could you put an option in to allow serial access to the email accounts or really look at processes at this is a big problem. Thanks.

Same problem here. You may want to check out the thread "My ISP has blocked my IP address because of Leopard IMAP configuration" under http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5780594&#5780594

  • Accesing Oracle 8i Database from iPlanet (Sun ONE) web server

    Hi all,
I am trying to set up basic authentication mechanism on an iPlanet web server hosted web application. Instead of using the iPlanet LDAP directory, I would like to access the Oracle RDBMS for userid/password authentication. Does Oracle provide a means/plugin for enabling such communication with the iPlanet web server.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kavita

    This just happened to me.
The problem is that iPlanet seems to goof up if you insert any non-alphabetical characters (such as underscore) into your virtual server class name.
To resolve this issue I had to open up the backups.conf file located in the conf_bk subfolder under your server folder.
    <server root>\conf_bk\backups.conf
There are three sections divided by an empty line. The first section is 1 line and just has the version #, something like this:
    backups.conf:Version 4.0
The next section has a list of conf files to keep backups of, when the last backup was made, etc..
The problem is that in deleting the obj.conf file for the virtual class, iPlanet does NOT remove the entry from this file for that virtual server class. You need to do this manually.
So locate the line in this section (most probably the last line in this section) that contains (virtual server class name).conf in it and delete that line.
You should now be able to operate as normal.
This is an aggravating bug that I hope has been addressed in iPlanet 6.1

  • Problem in connecting to LDAP DS with iPlanet 4.1 Web server

We have a web application deployed in iPlanet4.0 web server, we are using Sun One directory server for authentication.( Thru JNDI - Package javax.naming.ldap)
    The Problem :
The problem is that, I am able to do the LDAP related operations anly a few times, after which the below stated exception results. Following this exception, I cannot connect to the directory server again, unless I restart the webserver. For all my operations I establish a fresh context.
    The Exception :
java.lang.IllegalMonitorStateException: current thread not owner Exception

Is tghe user id and password that it is requesting for OID? If so then you have several options. You can supply a user DN and password for a know user. For instance, if you have a user DN of cn=jdoe,ou=slaes,o=acme this would be the user is or DN that you need. This DN would have a password attribute associated with it and that would be the password.
Second, OID has a super user DN called cn=orcladmin. The default password for this su is manager.
    Hope this helps.

Can I make additional accounts some other way without logging into the web page?

do not install as a standalone on Windows 7!!! this is not supported.
some people have reporterd success using Windows 7 as a client, but Not as a server.
also currently many issues with Windows 7 and Office 2007 compatibility with PCM 13.
    - after you installed MS SQL 2005 did you enable the tcp/ip port in SQL Configuration Manager? set it to port 1433 on Dynamic Ports in IPAll
    - run dbconfig.cmd in location: c:\Program Files\Oracle\ContractManagement\utility\CMAdminConfig\
set the database connection to MS SQL, username will be exp and password sql
    - run admin.cmd in same location: c:\Program Files\Oracle\ContractManagement\utility\CMAdminConfig\
ensure the database groups are setup correctly. You should have one Admin and atleast one group database folder
the usernames and passwords should be exp and sql in all the databases

  • Waiting for udev uevents to be processed hangs for 30s. |SOLVED|

Hello. This is my first post.
Just installed ArchLinux with KDE 4.7,everything is working perfectly but something is really annoying.
When booting up the laptop (toshiba satellite) it takes too much loading this "waiting for udev uevents to be processed", like 30 or 40 secs, and after that all is fine.
i have tried a lot of things with DAEMONS AND MODULES, also tried  blacklisting some modules just like this post said.
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=133032
    But nothing has worked.
Maybe this could help or at least be related:
    dmesg | grep fail
    [    0.496066]  pci0000:00: ACPI _OSC request failed (AE_NOT_FOUND), returned control mask: 0x1d
    [    0.499488]  pci0000:3f: ACPI _OSC request failed (AE_NOT_FOUND), returned control mask: 0x1d
It looks just like  the same thing that happened to TuxLyn in the post i showed before.
I have an ATI card HD5400 so the other solutions in the Forum like this:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=92189   didn't work at all.
Btw, ArchLinux rules!, i really liked it so decided to leave Debian!
    Greets!

Welcome to arch.  Great first post - all the right info, and it shows you've looked around for your own answer.
However, it seems you did miss the one thread you needed to find.  The title was something like "Udev hangs for 30 seconds on boot."  If you google that (with site:bbs.archlinux.org) you should find it quickly.
The gist of it is that there are certain modules that need to be added to the MODULES line in rc.conf for now.  It seems that the vast majority (if not all) of these are the wireless modules - brcmsmac in my case, but it would be different in yours.
If you don't know your wireless module you can find it in the output of "lspci -v" and look for the line "kernel driver in use" under your wireless card.

  • [Solved] Boot process hangs for installed Arch and installation usb

Hi. I've been using Arch Linux for around 6 months now and I'm in love with it. It is now my primary OS. However, I might have done something or performed some update, and I can no longer boot into Arch. The boot process hangs right before it should show the login screen (I'm using Gnome 3.6 with GDM). I see the following messages on the screen:
Loading Linux core repo kernel ...
    Loading initial ramdisk ...
    /dev/sda3: recovering journal
    /dev/sda3: clean, 330610/1749664 files, 5585671/6996827 blocks
And then it hangs right there. I have to hard-reboot after this.
I then tried to boot using the Arch Linux Installation USB (archlinux-2012.12.01-dual.img), which also hangs at a particular point, before it should show me the prompt. I took a picture of the screen where it hangs: Screen Capture. This is an issue with just my laptop, because the USB boots just fine on another laptop I tried.
I also have Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.10 installed on my system, and I'm able to boot into both of them.
I have 2 hard drives: /dev/sda is a 120GB SSD, and /dev/sdb is a 500GB hard disk. My partitions are as follows:
sda1 - Windows 7 100MB System Reserved Partition (boot flag enabled)
    sda2 - Windows 7 OS
sda3 - ArchLinux (boot flag enabled)
    sdb1 - Ubuntu 12.10 (boot flag enabled)
    sdb2 - Just data
I ran bootinfoscript and below is the output:

Ok.. So my Arch Linux randomly decided to work. I'm sure I didn't do anything between my last "not working" state and my current "working" state. Below are a few things I tried:
I thought of trying an earlier build of ArchLinux, and downloaded archlinux-2012.11.01-dual.iso and made a bootable USB out of it. It still hung.
I was getting error messages during Arch boot that the last access time for the disks was at a future date. I found out that Ubuntu was using localtime instead of UTC and screwing up my hardware clock. I fixed it, and thought maybe the time issues were causing the boot problem. But fixing time didn't solve my problem.
I chrooted into Arch from my Ubuntu install, ran 'sudo pacman -Syyu' and updated my Arch install.
I thought maybe GDM isn't starting up. I re-enabled the service using 'systemctl enable gdm.service'.
I removed OpenNTPd and installed NTPd. Enabled the daemon using 'systemctl enable ntpd'
None of the above solved the problem, and rebooting to Arch still hung the system. So I stopped fiddling with it yesterday. Today, as usual, I just tried logging into Arch.. And it just worked out of the blue. The solution to me is as mysterious as the problem.
I told this to my friend who introduced me to Arch, and this is what he said:
Damn it computers, you were supposed to be deterministic!

It seem it is not related to physical memory problem.
Any setting for allocation memory for iplanet??
I serach many website and forum also can't find any similar error related iplanet.
Do anyone have simliar problem or any idea?

You are running into bug 4858026. Bug fixes are delivered in service packs. To get the fix for 4858026, you need to apply a service pack.

  • Will iPlanet 6.0 Web Server be available for AIX?

In the past, IBM engineers have helped us (iPlanet development engineering) get each new version of iWS running well on AIX. Unfortunately, IBM is not currently providing this support.
iPlanet customer service at 1-888-786-8111 may be able to give you a definitive answer.

  • Sun One Web Server 6.1 max value for ChunkedRequestBufferSize

    Hi,
I was wondering if there was a maximum value for ChunkedRequestBufferSize.
I have an application that is sending chunked data to the server and I don't really know what the size of the chunks will be.
I'd like to set a max.
I know the default is 8K.
Just wondering if there is a value. Though common sense would tell me it would depend on the heap size :).
    Thanks for your help

Yes, the buffer is allocated from the heap. It must be less than 2GB and small enough to fit on the heap.
