IPlanet on Win2k array server

I have a W2K server with an array controller. I am using iPlanet 6.0. I acquired the server in Sept and since then the server has rebooted itself at varied times. HP thought it was the machine as there is no information in the error log to indicate why the shutdown occurs.
However, after replacing the server with a new one but using the same hard drives they assume it is software. I need to know, will iPlanet 6.0 work without any problems on a server with an array controller? Are there any known problems? I'm looking at all possibilities.
Thanks!

iPlanet Web Server 6.0 will never ask Windows 2000 to reboot.

  • Meta5.1 installation on Win2k adv server

    I have same problem with the original message.
    Meta is 5.1 and DS is 5.1 also. There seemed
    no problems during installation, but after rebooting followed by the installation, the fatal error message, httpd undifined error, occurred, consequently, the meta admin instant was not loaded.
    I tried other three win2k server box, but I got always same error message

    I have had no problems with my Win2k advanced server. I used it to check the AD connector (which sux bigtime!!) It works... ok.. "it functions as designed" grin
    Dont forget you need two packages.. Directory Server and Meta. You need to install the iPlanet/SunOne directory server first.. and then install meta 5.1
    The install process of meta will remind you to use a different install folder from the DS.
    on my winbox I use iDS 5.1 sp2 and meta 5.1

  • Follow up to web services question:  How do I expose java components as web services on iPlanet 6.0 app server?

    My task - my company has several legacy PowerBuilder applications that access a variety of Sybase and MS SQL databases. Rather than re-inventing the wheel by re-writing these applications in Java, we would like to enable these applications to call java components (EJBs) that will provide new functionality. I would need a piece of software called CSXtend (from www.cynergysystems.com) to allow PowerBuilder to call a web service. However, I am not sure how to expose my business functions (EJBs) as web services on the iPlanet 6.0 App server. Thanks for all previous responses! Any additional info would be greatly appreciated! Mike

    I have used Glue (http://www.themindelectric.com/products/glue/glue.html) to expose some of our stuff as Web Services. I recently found this on serverside. It's pretty good.
    http://www.theserverside.com/resources/article.jsp?l=Systinet-web-services-part-1
    I believe that the middleware they use can be plugged into IPlanet. There is also an article in the knowledge base on the IPlanet site.

  • IPlanet 4.1 Web Server - ns-cron process hangs for log rotation

    Does anybody know if there is a known issue with iPlanet 4.1 Web Server where the ns-cron log rotation process hangs up?
    Basically it won't rotate any logs, and using either the "Stop" or "Restart" buttons in the console won't shut it down, so you have to kill it manually, then start it again.
    It seems like it will run for a couple days fine, then it will hang up.
    Thanks.

    Nope, I've not seen this before. But 4.1 version is really old and no longer supported, you should consider upgrading to a supported version.

  • Differences between SunONE, iPlanet and Netscape Directory Server

    What are the differences between SunONE, iPlanet and Netscape Directory Server?
    When I go to docs.sun.com - Products Categories, I saw that they've documentation regarding with SunONE, iPlanet, Netscape Directory Server listed under Directory Server.
    I know that they're all different directory server, but is it one newer than other? If I'm not wrong, I assumed that Netscape transformed into iPlanet, and then from iPlanet, it transformed to SunONE. If that is the case, is that mean that all of it's console and how it works should be very similar?
    Thanks!

    That is exactly what I thought.
    so when people refer SunONE Directory Server 5.1, then that's mean iPlanet Directory Server 5.1, right?
    Because I'm looking at Solaris 9's specification and it mentioned that it bundled with SunONE Directory Server 5.1.
    Thanks for answering my question! :)

  • What do you think about IPlanet 6.x Application server?

    Hi,
    Right now our company is developing an important project with J2EE. Our customer has IPlanet 6.5 application server. So far, we have had lots of problems with it.
    What do you think about it?.
    Would we consider to change the application server?.

    We also have had a lot of problems, although to be fair we have got it running reasonably reliabily now but only after disabling some of its features such as clustering. Make sure you have the maintence pack 1 installed. Ask Sun about the problems you are having often we would get a reply saying it was a known bug etc, unfortunatly no bug list is made available by sun...

  • Accesing Oracle 8i Database from iPlanet (Sun ONE) web server

    Hi all,
    I am trying to set up basic authentication mechanism on an iPlanet web server hosted web application. Instead of using the iPlanet LDAP directory, I would like to access the Oracle RDBMS for userid/password authentication. Does Oracle provide a means/plugin for enabling such communication with the iPlanet web server.
    Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kavita

    This just happened to me.
    The problem is that iPlanet seems to goof up if you insert any non-alphabetical characters (such as underscore) into your virtual server class name.
    To resolve this issue I had to open up the backups.conf file located in the conf_bk subfolder under your server folder.
    <server root>\conf_bk\backups.conf
    There are three sections divided by an empty line. The first section is 1 line and just has the version #, something like this:
    backups.conf:Version 4.0
    The next section has a list of conf files to keep backups of, when the last backup was made, etc..
    The problem is that in deleting the obj.conf file for the virtual class, iPlanet does NOT remove the entry from this file for that virtual server class. You need to do this manually.
    So locate the line in this section (most probably the last line in this section) that contains (virtual server class name).conf in it and delete that line.
    You should now be able to operate as normal.
    This is an aggravating bug that I hope has been addressed in iPlanet 6.1

  • Wrong JRE Runtime Lib Path on Win2K--Admin Server Won't Start

    Running Sun One Web Server 6.0 SP6 on a Windows 2000 server, I inadvertently entered a typo in the iPlanet Administration Server's Global Settings, "Configure JRE/JDK Paths" link.
    In the "JRE Runtime Lib Path" field I typed "jjk1.3.1_03" instead of "jdk1.3.1_03". Now the Sun One web server won't start, so I can't go into the Administrative Server to fix the Jre Runtime Lib Path. I havent' been able to find any file where I can change that erroneous setting either. Is it a Registry entry?
    I also tried adding the correct JRE Runtime Lib Path at the end of the Windows PATH environment variable on the server, but that didn't help.

    Yes we checked the Registry settings and fixed the typo in the path associated with the key NSES_JRE_RUNTIME_LIBPATH. That should have fixed the problem, but the Sun One web server still wouldn't start.
    Moved to plan B and removed then reinstalled the Sun One web server. Now it starts and all is well.
    Thanks for helping everyone. This also raised the issue for us of whether or not we are entitled to individual support from Sun since we paid for the Sun One web server. According to the web site, the answer is NO - unless we pay $3,000 for a support contract. Other vendors who recommended using Sun One with their products say YES. We're still tracking that down.

  • JNDI Lokup for DSN in iPlanet 6.5 App server

    Hi ,
    I have been trying to implement Connection Pooling in my application using the built-in features of iPlanet App server 6.5 . For the same i have made the following entries:
    1. web.xml
    <resource-ref>
    <description>Ptrade Entry</description>
    <res-ref-name>jdbc/ptradeDataSource</res-ref-name>
    <res-type>javax.sql.DataSource</res-type>
    <res-auth>Container</res-auth>
    </resource-ref>
    2. ias-web.xml
    <resource-ref>
    <res-ref-name>jdbc/ptradeDataSource</ref-ref-name>
    <jndi-name>jdbc/ptrade/ptradeDB</jndi-name>
    </resource-ref>
    3. Also my class tries to ge the context using
    try {
    InitialContext ic = new InitialContext();
    ds = (DataSource)ic.lookup("java:comp/env/jdbc/ptradeDataSource");
    catch (NamingException ne) {
    System.out.println("Naming Exception" + ne);
    Connection dbc = ds.getConnection();
    return dbc;
    However i am getting an javax.naming.NameNotfoundException: can't locate jdbc/ptradeDataSource.
    Could somebody pls tell me what is wrong with my configuration and code?

    Well, it looks like you haven't actually configured a datasource with that name. You've only configured the use of the datasource were it to exist. I don't know iPlanet, so you'll have to consult the docs to find out how to create the DS.

  • ESXi 4.0  with sun storagetek 2500 array server is getting crashed

    Hi all,
    I have configured ESXi 4.0 in an IBM server followed by creating virtual host in that server. The server was working fine until I connect the server with storage array.
    My setup looks like this.
    IBM Server installed with ESXi 4.0 (linux version) followed by virtual host creation. the virtual host is Windows 2008 - 64 bit. Once all this setup were made, I have installed a software called CAM module in this server. This module is to manage my Sun storagetek 2500 array family. Suddenly i see my ESXi server (licensed one) is getting crashed. Following is the error message displayed.
    Vmware ESXI release build_164009 x86_64
    #PF Exception(14) in world 5354:sfcbd in 0X418028840C99 addr 0X410008ebdd84
    Press escape to enter local debugger
    I got a work around from one of the forum for this similar problem as "increase the swap size may solve this". but i tried that also , but still the issue persists. Swap size is set as twice of the RAM (my ram is with 4 GB,2X dual core AMD processor and HDD capacity is 80GB)
    can anyone help me on this.
    With regards,
    Sri

    Hello,
    if it's that urgent, why do you post in a user-to-user forum instead of getting in touch with tech support of Vmware, IBM, Microsoft and maybe Sun ?

  • Can I use the search engine and run a web application under the same iPlanet 6.0 virtual server?

    I've got an iPlanet 6.0 SP2 virtual server with the search engine enabled, which was tested and working. I then deployed a web application to it (mapped to "/"), and the web application works fine but now the search functionality is completely broken. Browsing to /search results in a directory index being displayed. Is there some trick to getting the two working together? I tried shuffling NameTrans directives around, but can only get either the search or the web app working, not both.

    Ok, I'm going to answer my own question now...
    The issue has been resolved after some additional experimentation on my part. There were two causes for my problem:
    1. The NameTrans directives in obj.conf are in the wrong order when Java and Search are enabled from the administration interface.
    Here's the admin server generated obj.conf I started with initially, when the web application was working, but requests to the URI "/search" returning a 404 error:
    <Object name="default">
    NameTrans fn="NSServletNameTrans" name="servlet"
    NameTrans fn="pfx2dir" from="/search-ui" dir="/usr/local/iWS-6.0/plugins/search/ui" name="es-internal"
    NameTrans fn="pfx2dir" from="/mc-icons" dir="/usr/local/iWS-6.0/ns-icons" name="es-internal"
    NameTrans fn="pfx2dir" from="/manual" dir="/usr/local/iWS-6.0/manual/https" name="es-internal"
    NameTrans fn="es-search-nametrans" from="/search"
    NameTrans fn="NSServletNameTrans" name="servlet"
    NameTrans fn="document-root" root="$docroot"
    </Object>
    Here's my obj.conf now, which works perfectly:
    <Object name="default">
    NameTrans fn="pfx2dir" from="/search-ui" dir="/usr/local/iWS-6.0/plugins/search/ui" name="es-internal"
    NameTrans fn="pfx2dir" from="/mc-icons" dir="/usr/local/iWS-6.0/ns-icons" name="es-internal"
    NameTrans fn="pfx2dir" from="/manual" dir="/usr/local/iWS-6.0/manual/https" name="es-internal"
    NameTrans fn="es-search-nametrans" from="/search"
    NameTrans fn="NSServletNameTrans" name="servlet"
    NameTrans fn="document-root" root="$docroot"
    </Object>
    The "servlet" NameTrans directive needs to go below all others which map a URI to a function or directory (but before "document-root"), or they break. This is consistent with the iPlanet documentation on NameTrans, but the admin server doesn't get it right!
    2. The developer who wrote the web application uploaded a directory named "search" in the root of his application, which caused the server to display a directory index of "/search", instead of executing the search function. I believe this issue is covered in an iPlanet knowledge base article.

    I wonder if anyone had simmilar problem?
    When I run installer (either through autorun or manually) the cursor turns into hourglass for few seconds and then the program terminates with no error messages.
    Good old P4 installer problem right?... Except I got dual P3
    Went through the usual walkaround (copy to HDD, rename simcjit.dll, etc.
    Run again, same result.
    Downlaoded OUI, works fine untill the point where I click install... then terminates with no error messages
    I have another machine right next to the W2K P3. This one is P4 WinXP. Installer runs out of the box, no workaround necessary.
    Any idea, anyone?
    Any help will be very much appriciated.

    No that wasn't it. I have SP4 installed.
    I did find out what was crashing installer.
    If you got Dell computer with NVidia Video card and have Win2K - make sure you install the "Nvidia diaplay software update" when you run your "windows update".
    I got no idea what video driver got to do with Oracle installation, but it works like a charm... Uninstall Nvidia - Oracle crashes, Install it back - Oracle runs.
