Thanks
All those "[was error]" error messages are probably being logged by the Websphere plugin that you have configured in the webserver. Perhaps, you should engage IBM for these errors.
PS: iPlanet 4.1 has reached End of Support Life(EOSL) and you should plan to upgrade to a currently supported webserver version.
Thanks

IPlanet Proxy Server 3.6/NT4 restart and heartbeat-Problems
Hi,
we get the following errors:
- Proxy Server: proxy-proxy Heartbeat connect failed: error - 10061
- Proxy Server: proxy-proxy Restarting proxy: reason - 0
- Proxy Server: proxy-proxy Restarting proxy: reason - 2
we were able to minimize the first error by tweaking the
heartbeat-timeout-values as described in the iPlanet-knowledgebase
although we didn't eliminate them completely.
The second error is seldom but the third error sometimes occures several
times within an hour. Does anyone around here know anything about this
error ? I didn't find anything in the knowledgebase.
Is anyone around who can help me out ?
Cheers,
Karsten

Web: http://www.energis-ision.comThis is a GOOD question. I have just received the SAME message
Could SOMEONE come up with something ?
I've got Windows'2000 Professional and Netscape 7.2
It was only after I installed the Web Proxy Server that I found out I needed Netscape. So I downloaded and installed Netscape and then reinstalled the Web Proxy Server
I've noticed that sometimes IE6 still pops into the picture when something needs a browser -
IPlanet web server auto restart when user login or logout the NT server
Configuration
- NT Server 4.0 SP6a
- iPlanet Web Server 6.0 SP4
- JDK 1.3.1_03
- NT audit turned on for the file <iPlanet WS 60 instance home>/config/password.conf
We encounter a problem that when a user login / logout NT machine, the iplanet web server would be restart automatically.
Could somebody advise why this happen and how it can be solved?
There is a box called "Allow service to interact with desktop" in the service startup menu. What is it means and did it related to the problem?I think you are running into this:

The threads increase and the iPlanet Web Server 6.1SP5 restart itself
Hi all,
i becoming crazy, with my web servers.
I have 3 front-end balanced servers with the same configuration:
SunOS 5.9 Generic_118558-22 sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V240, 4GB RAM.
iPlanet Web Server is 6.1 SP5
Then the problem is:
- When i start my Web Servers there arn't errors, but during the day, the threads (shown by "top" under under column THR) that in mornig are 300~400 increases until becoming 750~850 and one or more of them restart itself automatically; therefore my head has ordered to the society that supplies us the monitoring service to restart duning the night the web servers at a distance of little minutes in order to avoid the hang of the webs.
How I can avoid the increment of the threads?
Every suggestion is appreciated.
Thanks in advance

IPlanet 6 restarts automatically
Hi.
I am using iPlanet 6.0. When I try to access a certain screen, sometimes the web server restarts automatically, sometimes it just crashes, and sometimes it works properly. I can't find any error msg logged in the server error log or access log.
Does any one have any ideas as to what might be causing my web server to restart/crash?
Thanks.These are the only messages I can find in the error and access log:

IPlanet 6.0 SP2 restart on Windows NT when a user logs off the server.
UPDATE: We have found that the iWS 6.0 only restart with JDK 1.3.1 installed for JSP pages. What is the best JDK to use?
iPlanet 6.0 SP2 restart on Windows NT when a user logs off the server. If a admin or joe developer logs into the server (C+A+D) and does what ever... When the
person logs off the NT 4.0 box ... ALL the httpd process restart. We have 80 & 443 & Admin. The processes are running under a user account. Any one have an idea why the process are restarting?"Hi,
You can use following JDK version for Windows NT.
And please check it out whether WinNT-SP6 as been installed in winNT box.
Window NT:

Iplanet cluster restart..
Hi ,
We have iplanet cluster server consists of two iplanet server
instances. I had to shut down bith the iplanet server instances at the
same time, wheather this will affect the cluster configuration? If it
does affect the cluster properties what I need to do to recover them.
Now I didn't notice any problems but i want to make sure I had done
nothing wrong.
I would appreciate any help..
Thanks,
Jana.Hi,
Shutting down actually will not affect any configuration. When you
shutdown one server, say ias_a, then the next server, say ias_b, will come
up a primary. Then when you shutdown ias_b, eventually you would have
shutdown your whole setup. Next time when you start, start first, the
server that you need to come up as primary server, (anyone, ias_a or
ias_b). So actually speaking, the primary or secondary will be recognised
only the way in which the servers are started. Please feel free to shoot
more questions on this.

Hi,
In your iWS, Go to particular instance config directory
edit contexts.properties file
(eg:-/usr/netscape/server4/https-test/config/contexts.properties).
Do the below changes.
(uncomment
context.global.reloadInterval=5
"And"
context.global.isModifiedCheckAggressive=true).
Example:-
~~~~~~~~~~~
# Context properties:
# context.global.sessionmgr=com.netscape.server.http.session.SimpleSessionManager
# context.global.sessionmgr.initArgs=
# context.global.initArgs=initial=0
# context.global.realPathFromRequest=false
# context.global.respondCookieVersion=0
# context.global.sessionExpireOnClose=false
# context.global.includeTransparency=true
# context.global.tempDir=/tmp
context.global.reloadInterval=5
# context.global.javaBufferSize=0
# context.global.bufferSize=4096
# context.global.docRoot=/foo/bar
# context.global.inputStreamLengthCheck=true
# context.global.outputStreamFlushTimer=0
# context.global.uri=/
# context.global.host=
# context.global.ip=
# context.global.authdb=default
# context.global.classpath=
# context.global.singleClassLoader=false
# context.global.contentTypeIgnoreFromSSI=true
# context.global.parameterEncoding=utf8
# context.global.sessionCookie=NSES40Session
context.global.isModifiedCheckAggressive=true
I hope this will work for you.
Thanks,
Daks.
Sonal,
I believe that you are misinterpreting the documentation.
I understand that PgCommon has to extend ViewBeanBase. I tried to
make the following changes in PgCommon and compiled it. Then I ran
the extraction which threw up the following error:
I believe that you are confusing extraction issues with translation issues.
The warning message that indicates the need for a class mapping strategy to
address custom superclasses in the original project is a TRANSLATION time
warning.
T008 No mapping found for [<ndClassType>]
Falling back to [Object]. Please add entry for [<ndClassType>] to
class mapping file, restart the toolbox and re-run the translation.
As such, the remedy for this warning is detailed in the documentation under
the heading
Extraction/Translation Error & Warning Messages
3.3 Notes on MigrationClassMappings.properties
It sounds to me that you have misinterpreted the instructions and have
attempted to modify the original PgCommon declaration, and then re-extract.
This is incorrect. This implies that you see this as an extraction tool
situation, which it is not. This is a translation tool consideration, and as
such does not require any adjustment of the original NetDynamics' object. So
please, return to the original PgCommon declaration, and recompile. Then run
the extraction tool. Then run the translation tool, and make note of the
translation tool warnings and deal with them.
As indicated in the documentation (although perhaps not clearly enough), the
solution to warning T008 is not to make your original PgCommon extend
ViewBeanBase, but rather to adjust the MigrationClassMappings.properties so
that the TRANSLATION tool will take your class mappings into account when it
translates the ND objects into JATO objects.
Specifically, if you add the following entry into the
MigrationClassMappings.properties file:
PgCommon PgCommonViewBean
then the translation tool will cause all classes which previously extended
PgCommon to be translated into new classes which now extend
PgCommonViewBean.
Your final step is to adjust PgCommonViewBean's constructor. Note, we are
talking about PgCommonViewBean here (i.e. the output of the Translation
tool, not the original ND object).
Change it from this:
public PgCommonViewBean()
super(PAGE_NAME);
setDefaultDisplayURL(DEFAULT_DISPLAY_URL);
registerChildren();
initialize();
TO THIS
public PgCommonViewBean(String name)
// Adjust the constructor because this is a superclass
// of the other viewbeans. It is NOT a stand along page
// Therefore its constructor should be adjusted to pass the
// page name argument up to the ViewBeanBase class
super(name);
/* Delete the following lines, they are not needed if this is acting as a
superclass of other viewbeans.
setDefaultDisplayURL(DEFAULT_DISPLAY_URL);
registerChildren();
initialize();
Sonal--
Have you tried recompiling the entire application? It sounds as if theremay
be a problem with incompatible versions of PgCommon and PgReplaceCDSIDwhich
I assume extends it. Blow away all your project class files and recompile
in the ND Studio before trying again.
Also, make sure there are no .ser files hanging around in your project
directory.
Todd/Charles,
Thans for all the help.
The client has a small application, in which all pages extend from
PgCommon. PgCommon extends CSpPage. I read through the "Notes on
MigrationClassMappings.properties" file in iMT1.1.1 documentation.
I understand that PgCommon has to extend ViewBeanBase. I tried to
make the following changes in PgCommon and compiled it. Then I ran
the extraction which threw up the following error:
Hi, I am using HP11 and iPlanet web server. When trying to upload files over HTTP using FORM ENCTYPE="multipart/form-data" that are bigger than a few Kilobytes i get a 408 error. (client timeout). It is as if the server has decided that the client has timed out during the file upload. The default setting is 30 seconds for AcceptTimeout in the magnus.conf file. This should be ample to get the file across, even increasing this to 2 minutes just produces the same error after 2 minutes. Any help appreciated. Apologies if this is not the correct forum for this, I couldn't see one for iPlanet and Web, many thanks, Kieran.
Hi,
You didnt mention which version of IWS. follow these steps.
(1)Goto Web Server Administration Server, select the server you want to manage.
(2)Select Preference >> Perfomance Tuning.
(3)set HTTP Persistent Connection Timeout to your choice (eg 180 sec for three minutes)
(4) Apply changes and restart the server.
*Setting the timeout to a lower value, however, may prevent the transfer of large files as timeout does not refer to the time that the connection has been idle. For example, if you are using a 2400 baud modem, and the request timeout is set to 180 seconds, then the maximum file size that can be transferred before the connection is closed is 432000 bits (2400 multiplied by 180)
How to configure Oracle JDBC on iPlanet 6.0 ...
Hello,
On the Solaris machine I have iPlanet 6.0 sp2 and Oracle8i and I can't get my JSPs to connect to database. Everytime I try I get an error that the driver cannot be located. Even though I've udated a Classpath of iPlanet and Solaris to point to the oracle drivers. I spent already a day looking for some documenation on iPlanet and JDBC and I couldn't find anything except "run db_setup.sh". I don't have on my machine any db_setup.sh or setup_db.sh.
Please let me know how configure iPlanet with Oracle drivers.
Your help is greatly apprieciated,
LeszekTypically, this is a simple matter of putting the zip file that contains the JDBC driver in the iPlanet server CLASSPATH. Make sure that you include the zip file name when you set the classpath, not just the directory that the zip is in: /opt/oracle/classes12_2.zip .
You will need to restart iPlanet for this change to take effect. -
Issue in iPlanet loading obj.conf file in admin console module
Dear all,
I have done following chanegs in obj.conf file to block insecure http methods,but whenever I try to access admin module of iPlanet and restart, all manual changes done in obj.conf disappears.
Only one time it asked me with message that file has been modified manually do you want to load?
but this is not happening every time.I am using iplanet 9.
Please let me know if there is any issue with this or I am missing something.
to just brief, only after trying 20 times it asked me above mentioned message
WebLogic Server 10.3 - iPlanet 6.0 Plugin issue
Hello,
I have WebLogic Server 10.3 installed on Solaris 9, working fine in all respects.
I have iPlanet Web Server 6.0 installed and running fine with WebLogic 7.0 - plugin works perfectly fine on a separate unix box with solaris 9.
When I try to make the plugin work for iPlanet 6.0 - WLS 10.3 I am getting errors. I have followed two steps for the plugin
1) I have added following line in magnus.conf
Init fn="load-modules" shlib="/apps/bea/wlserver_10.3/server/plugin/solaris/sparc/libproxy_61.so" funcs="wl_proxy,wl_init"
Init fn="wl_init"
bash-2.05$ ls -lt /apps/bea/wlserver_10.3/server/plugin/solaris/sparc/libproxy_61.so
-rwxr-xr-x 1 admweb www 1378764 Jun 30 08:53 /apps/bea/wlserver_10.3/server/plugin/solaris/sparc/libproxy_61.so
2) I have added following entry in obj.conf as follows
<Object name="weblogic" ppath="*/servlet/*">
Service fn="wl_proxy" WebLogicHost="WLS_HOSTNAME" WebLogicPort="9092" ConnectTimeoutSecs="300" Debug="OFF" WLLogFile="/apps/iplanet/https-rcte/logs/abc/Weblogic10Plugins.log" PathPrepend="abc"
</Object>
When I restart the iPlanet it does not start and get the following errors:
[30/Jun/2009:14:19:18] failure (23978): Configuration initialization failed: Error running init function load-modules: dlopen of /apps/iplanet/plugins/libproxy_61.so failed (ld.so.1: ns-httpd: fatal: relocation error: file /apps/iplanet/plugins/libproxy_61.so: symbol __1cG__CrunIex_alloc6FI_pv_: referenced symbol not found)
SunOS 5.9 Generic_118558-11 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V240
Can someone help what is causing this error?Hello All,
Thanks for the responses till now.
There is no such file as libproxy.so
bash-2.05$ cd /apps/bea/wlserver_10.3/server/plugin/solaris/sparc/
bash-2.05$ ls -lt
total 5442
drwxr-sr-x 2 admweb www 512 Jun 25 06:27 largefile
-rw-r--r-- 1 admweb www 1378796 Jun 25 06:27 libproxy128_61.so
-rw-r--r-- 1 admweb www 1378764 Jun 25 06:27 libproxy_61.so
/apps/bea/wlserver_10.3/server/lib does not contain any plugin files, it contains ONLY jar files.
One question: is iPlanet 6.0 supported by WLS 10.3?, I doubt.
Please help me confirm.
Regards,
Rajesh. -
Is there a restriction on length of Http request posted to a Iplanet Web Server ?
I am submitting an Http Request by POST method to my server. The request will be received and forwarded by Iplanet Web Server to a clustered Weblogic environment, which will then be handled by Java Servlets. The problem I am facing is that when the length of the request shoots up to around 2000 bytes, NES doesn't receive and forward the request to Weblogic. There is no fixed cut-off for the length, it keeps fluctuating.
I observed the following after hitting the server hundreds of times with Http Requests that vary in length.
1) If length of Request is below 1500 bytes, request always goes through successfully.
2) In a range of 1500 bytes to 2000 bytes, request fails most of the times. (Around 80 %)
3) Requests with length above 2000K invariably fail, though it just worked for a 2.4K request on one occasion (out of some 100 hits)
Note that by "length of request", I mean the data I post through Http Request (I just have a single parameter in Http request having the literal "XML" as key and a well formed XML document as value. That is equivalent to submitting a HTML form just having a text area called "XML" containing a XML document. )
I presume that the length of actual Http Request is slightly greater than that of XML (probably by around 100 bytes).
My Iplanet documentation says that the upper limit on the length of a POST Http Request is 64 K, which is way above the value (2-3 K) at which I am facing the problem.Hi Ganesh
Did you check the HTTP Persistent timeout of your server? Check the value which has been set up by default. Try increasing the timeout value and try again.
follow these steps it might solve your problem:
(1)Goto Web Server Administration Server, select the server you want to manage.
(2)Select Preference >> Perfomance Tuning.
(3)set HTTP Persistent Connection Timeout to your choice (eg 180 sec for three minutes)(note : if you are posting large amount of data or file increase the value accordingly)
(4) Apply changes and restart the server.
*Setting the timeout to a lower value, however, may prevent the transfer of large files as timeout does not refer to the time that the connection has been idle. For example, if you are using a 2400 baud modem, and the request timeout is set to 180 seconds, then the maximum file size that can be transferred before the connection is closed is 432000 bits (2400 multiplied by 180)
If this doesnot solve your problem notify me
