Iplanet/sun one 6 and redhat 8

Has anyone been able to migrate to RedHat Linux 8.0 on a server that already has Sun One 6 installed? My web server is currently running 7.1, but that's no longer supported by RH. I'd like to go ahead and move it to something newer. I have the installation media for 7.3 and 8.0.

It may work but here's a list of officially tested and supported versions:
http://docs.sun.com/source/816-6770-10/rn60sp6.html#36474
I hear that you can make things run by installing Red Hat's compat RPMs but again this will be unsupported/untested.
Thanks,
Manish

  • WLS 6.1 SP2 NSAPI and iPlanet (Sun One) issues

Hi. I am going nuts with this NSAPI issue. I am working in a Solaris 8 environment,
WLS 6.1 SP2 and iPlanet (Sun One)and NSAPI. I can get everything to work fine
and dandy in aniPlanet 4.1 environment. I can not get it to work in an Iplanet
(Sun One) 6.x environment. It appears that some things work differently between
the versions of iPlanet (ie. things contained in magnus.conf and/or obj.conf).
I have tried moving things, removing things, adding things and nothing seems
to work....it's almost as though the NSAPI, etc. are being ignored.
I've attached my magnus.conf and obj.conf files (I cut and pasted them into a
single file so I could upload it). Can anyone help me out here...I've been working
for weeks on this and can't seem to get any answers.
    Thanks!
    Doug
P.S. For security purpses I changed the first part of the IP add. in the files
    to 1234567, etc.
    Thanks

    Hi Doug
U have to put the following section
    Init fn="load-modules" funcs="wl_proxy,wl_init" shlib="./libproxy.so"
    Init fn="wl_init"
    into magus.conf
and put the rest into obj.conf

Does anybody know of a good reference document on how to properly install
    the NSAPI
plug-in for WLS6.1 & iPlanet6(SunOne) on Unix (Solaris). Many of the references
    that
I have been finding are either incomplete, have typo's and are mostly Windows
    oriented
(ie. with the .dll's, paths, examples, etc.)
My problem is that our old iPlanet 4.x works fine...everything proxies,
    etc. iPlanet
6 just doesn't want to seem to communicate with WLS 6.1 SP2 We tried many
    of the
saem things from the 4.x magnus & obj.confs...but things look somewhat different
in iPlanet 6.x (did they move tings..such as the fn's from one to the other,
    etc.)
If so..and there are big differences in installing iPlanet 4.x vs. 6.x
    then many
of the docs out there are inaccurate. Does anyone know if there is a newer
    version
of the NSAPI plug-in for Unix.
I would love to see a basic, working set of magnus.conf obj.conf, MIME,etc
    from someone
who has actually gotten NSAPI to work between WLS 6.1 and iPlanet 6 on Unix
    (Solaris)
It blows my mind that 4.x works and 6.x doesn't. An updated NSAPI plug-in
, if it exists and perhaps fixes the problem, would make my day. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

  • IPlanet Sun ONE Web Proxy Server 3.6 SP6 terminating

I have a problem with my proxy server server.
I use iPlanet Sun ONE Web Proxy Server 3.6 SP6
It is terminating and the service is restarting. This happens about 10-15 times a day. The message I get from the log is :
[22/Mar/2005:09:29:30] info: server terminating... each time it terminates.
I know for sure that this is no hardware issue (as I have changed the hard disk recently). My OS is win2000 server SP4 + all released patches from MS.
Also I have reinstalled the OS several times (clean install after format) and I got the same result.
Also I tried to use the proxy with/without LDAP server for authentication - the same.
    Any suggestions/recommendations are mostly welcome.
    Thanks in advance,
    Kaloyan

    Dear Kaloyan,
Migration to another proxy (e.g. ISA) seems to be quickest solution for your problem, as WebProxy doesn't work well on w2k platform.

  • Need help with sun one and xml

I have installed the Java Web Services Developer Pack. I am also using Sun One ide. I am trying to import the dom package. When ever i use "import org.", in the Sun One ide to lookup the packages, no packages come up for w3c.dom. I have tried to just use "import org.w3c.dom;", but i get an error when i try to instantiate a DOMImplementation. The JWSDP says that you do not need to register any classpaths. Any help would be much appreciated.

I've noticed that no packages come up either.
    Try:
    import org.w3c.dom.*;
to import all the classes, or be more specific:
    import org.w3c.dom.Node;
(this is better coding style as you know exactly what classes you are using)
    Hope this helps

  • Accesing Oracle 8i Database from iPlanet (Sun ONE) web server

    Hi all,
I am trying to set up basic authentication mechanism on an iPlanet web server hosted web application. Instead of using the iPlanet LDAP directory, I would like to access the Oracle RDBMS for userid/password authentication. Does Oracle provide a means/plugin for enabling such communication with the iPlanet web server.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kavita

    This just happened to me.
The problem is that iPlanet seems to goof up if you insert any non-alphabetical characters (such as underscore) into your virtual server class name.
To resolve this issue I had to open up the backups.conf file located in the conf_bk subfolder under your server folder.
    <server root>\conf_bk\backups.conf
There are three sections divided by an empty line. The first section is 1 line and just has the version #, something like this:
    backups.conf:Version 4.0
The next section has a list of conf files to keep backups of, when the last backup was made, etc..
The problem is that in deleting the obj.conf file for the virtual class, iPlanet does NOT remove the entry from this file for that virtual server class. You need to do this manually.
So locate the line in this section (most probably the last line in this section) that contains (virtual server class name).conf in it and delete that line.
You should now be able to operate as normal.
This is an aggravating bug that I hope has been addressed in iPlanet 6.1

  • IPlanet/Sun ONE Directory Server 5.1 configuration help needed.

    Hi from Finland.
We have a SunFire 420 running Solaris 8.
It has 2 network adaptors each configured to have separate IP addresses. Eventually these cards will be on quite separate networks... one for intranet users and one for the rest.
What I am wanting to know is how do I configure the iDS 5.1 to be listening on port 389 for both IPs
When I installed iDS 5.1 I could only see one hostname and one domainname so the install went fine.
Is the Directory with multiple network adaptors setup an O/S issue or an iDS issue???
Any tips or help would be gratefully accepted!!

All my PROD systems have dual n/w cards listenning on different IPs(subnets for that matter). Data can be accessed over LDAP on both IPs with the same port. We did not have to do anything special at the Directory or the OS level.

  • Prob w/ Tungsten T3 and Sun One

I have a Tungsten T3 Palm Pilot that is connecting to a Windows XP Professional laptop. This machine has 1GB of RAM, 40GB HDD, and 2.3GHZ. The problem that I am having is that when I try to synchronize contents from the iPlanet calendar server to the Palm Desktop ( Palm Desktop 4.14 ), I get the following error message shown here:
    Sun ONE Synchronization

    Error Message(s):
Field out of range: Start Date
It gives me the option to proceed but when I click on proceed nothing gets transferred over, even though the message box says "Synchronization completed successfully". I have re-installed the Palm Desktop software, the Sun One Software and even went as far as starting from scratch and deleting all Palm and Sun One entries from the registry and re-installing from there with no luck. There is no date that I am aware of, boasting the year 1970 ( as stated in the log ), so I dont know why the application DateBook is screaming about this. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated it, it seems that I have tried everything. I even went to the Sun One and Palm Support Sites but still I didnt have any luck of finding the solution to this. btw I installed the latest Sun One patches but still no luck and also updated the Palm Desktop application.

    Hi Sergio,
Have you tried enabling full debugging on the Sun synchronisation tool? This may provide you with additional debugging information to help resolve your issue.
To turn on full debugging, run:
Start -> Programs -> Sun One Synchronization -> Sun One Synchronization Debug Log
Set the logging level to 5 and try the synchronization again.
The debug log is placed in:
    C:\program files\common files\XCPCSync\Log\rsSync.log
    Cheers,
    Shane.

  • SUN One & J2EE Installation Problems

Every time I run the setup program for Sun One and J2EE I get the following error message before setup even get's going (ie when setup.exe hides the command prompt it returns with the following error message:)
"Error writing native components to disk. Aborting wizard"
    I'm running WinXP Pro ..
I've asked around for a solution to this problem. At the moment my last resort solution is to do a format of my machine and try again =) because all my mates have had no bother so far.
If anyone could give me a hint as to what's wrong I'd be utterly grateful.
    Regards,
    Shaun

As wierd as it sounds, one of the things that will trigger this behaviour is if you have a file called Documents on the drive where your %USERPROFILE% directory is. For instance, if %USERPROFILE% is c:\documents and settings\username, the existance of c:\Documents will break native toolkit bootstrap process.
Workaround is to temporarily rename the file and run the installation...

  • Creating new files in Sun ONE

I just started learning Java and I downloaded the Sun ONE developers tool. I want to know how to create a new Java file from scratch using the code editor in this tool. I looked through the help and there doesn't seem to be a way to do this. I can edit a file, or ad a file to a project, or create a new folder, or create a new project, but there are no instruction is the help for just creating a plain old ordinary individual Java file. Like I said, I'm new to Java, so I'm starting out small, like one file at t atime. Other than using a mregular run-of-the-mill text editor, is there a way to create new Java files in Sun ONE, and if so, how?

    Hi,
Click on the Filesystems tab. Then right click the file system node->choose mount.Mount the directory where you need to create your new java file.
    Once the directory is mounted,
Right click the directory -->choose new --> classes-->Main--->then enter the name of the name ,this willcreate a new java file.
    Hope this helps.

  • Integrate Sun ONE Messaging and Sun ONE Calendar server with Portal 6.0

We need to integrate (implement a Single Sign On solution) Sun ONE/iPlanet Messaging and Calendar servers with Portal 6.0. The Msg and Cal. servers do not use Portal Profile server as their DS and have a different DS.This directory server is the external DS for Portal. After users login to Portal, they should be able to access Msg and Cal. servers without login to them again.
    1. How do we do this without writing a java code/servlet ?
    2. Is there any way that we could configure DSAME to create the URL,add userID and password to it and forward that URL to above servers ?

    Hi,
The SunOne communication providers for version 6.0 will be released soon.
(you can get beta versions from early access program)
Like in the portal version 3.0 these channels
are enabling SSO for messaging and calendar servers.
    (I tested them with iMSG5.2 and Calendar5.1.1)
    Cheers,
    Alex :-)

  • NetBeans and Sun ONE Web Server 6.1

I have a JSP / Beans / Servlet Web application working in Tomcat on my local machine, a Macintosh laptop. I used NetBeans to create it all, and everything works fine there. I have tried to upload everything to another computer (Solaris based) which is running Sun ONE Web Server 6.1, but am having problems.
I uploaded the WAR file that NetBeans created, and uploaded the 'web' directory that NetBeans created. I can access HTML files from that web folder, but when I ask it to go to the first page, index.jsp, it has a problem with the beans. In my JSP file I do:

    Then my dowt is that
Is it possible to make my server SSL enabled with
h out using any certificate ????( the documents you
are given is telling about certificates)No it is not possible - the whole idea behind SSL communication is that it is based on TRUSTED secure communication. If a client can not check validity of server's certificate it is not trusted any more.
It might not seem to be the case when you create a self-signed certificate, but it really is so. In case of a self signed certificate you(i.e your browser) trust yourself with whatever you do with your application on your webserver.
After all can I install some certificates lateron ??
If you really need SSL with your webserver you have to either create a self signed certificate, see this: http://sial.org/howto/openssl/self-signed/
or request a test certificate from www.verisign.com or www.thawtee.com

  • IPlanet migration failure for Sun One Web server 6.1SP6

Recently we downloaded the Sun One Web server 6.1SP6 and we are having problem trying to upgrade our current version. We have been able to install the package and get the admin console running but we can not migrate the current instances across to the new version. We can successfully choose an instance to migrate however once we click the migrate button, absolutely nothing happens in the browser and nothing can be seen in any error logs and truss indicates a read of a pipe going nowhere, after which the cgi stub terminates.
    We are migrating from
    iPlanet-WebServer-Enterprise/6.0SP5 B10/31/2002 16:22
    to
    CORE1116: Sun ONE Web Server 6.1SP6 B05/07/2006 12:33

well, it is good that you have considered to upgrade considering 6.0 Sp5 has been EOL'ed for some time now.
here is the url that describes migrating to 6.1 from 6.0
    http://docs.sfbay/app/docs/doc/819-6514/6n8h9dr61?a=view
now, if you are still having issues with migration using GUI, you can provide us the admin server error logs or call Sun tech support (if you have support contract) to help you with this.
