Iplanet webserver response is not compressed

Hi,
I have a Iplanet webserver sp6 on Sun solaris OS. The problem is that the response to the client is not in compressed form. I have conmpared the setting with another webserver which is working fine and I do not see any difference in the magnus.conf or obj.conf.

I don't understand. iPlanet Web Server 6.0 SP6 never compresses responses. The first version of Web Server to implement HTTP compression was Sun ONE Web Server 6.1.

In iPlanet WebServer getRuntime.exec() not running

We are using iPlanet webserver 4.1 SP5 for unix.
In the servlet in the init method the following command
is not getting called
Process ps = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("application");
"application" is written in c.
Even with the java class this is not called.
Process ps = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("java sample");
I have given the class path and path correctly.
It is not throwing any exceptions also.
But if i set the MaxProcs 4 in the magnus.conf file
it is throwing java.io.IOException Badfile number
I have set the CGIWaitPid on.
I haven't given the cgi directory since we are not using cgi programs
I could not understand whether this iPlanet web server does
*support native interface
*in unix will it create fork command to execute an
application
* do i have to change the setup in config files
If any of you could clarify this it would be of great help to me

Where to place my java bean files in iplanet Webserver 6.0

Hi,
I have installed SunOne iPlanet webserver 6.0 (Not Application Server). I have written very simple jsp program, that will instance a java bean (not EJB).and say Hello world. I have written test.jsp I have placed under c:\iplanet\servers\docs (root webdirectory). Where do i need to place helloBean.java file in iplanet webserver 6.0. Even i have created WEB-INF\classes & WEB-INF\lib folder under c:\iplanet\servers\docs I have created a .war file, that also put in classpath of iplanet. Finally i am getting here message that, helloBean.not found, when i see the error log file. Do i need to create jar / war file to do this simple program ?
Please answer me, i am very much interest on this.

i have placed my jsp file in c:/iplanet/servers/docs folder
i have placed my bean file in c:/iplanet/servers/docs/firstBean folder
Also mentioned in JVM classpath as like this
c:/iplanet/servers/docs/firstBean
But i am getter error msg that firstBean.databaseBean class not found.
Please suggest me to do any other neccessary step ?

Error 404 Not Found in iplanet webserver

We have application to hosted in iplanet webserver and weblogic application server.
we/users accesing one URL like http://domain.com/context/folder1/index.jsp.
some request fails(intermittently) and giving 404 not found error to user page.we checked the iplanet access and error logs. in logs we saw 404 not found error.
we got some solution to change KeepAliveTimeOut param from 30 sec to 300 sec. we did the same . but after that also we are facing the issue.
please any one knows . please help us.

Hi,
Is your web server forwarding all requests to Application server (web logic). If so you need ti have those files in the app server doc root.
give more details like what you are using passthrough or reverse proxy for request forwarding to Weblogic from Webserver.

we are using two iplanet server hosted in different machine with frontend cisco content switches (CCS). so the request first goes to CCS and then CCS forward to the iplanet.
We are facing this problem in production. so we couldn't do the profiling in production.
we are geeing 404 error only in access log. no information in error.log

Some request only giving 404 NOT Found Error.if we try the URL in IE 10 times, 2 0r 3 request giving 404 Error and remaining request gives successful pages.
Please give us any other suggestion.

Iplanet webserver 4.1 JSP problem

Hi I am using iplanet webserver 4.1, whenever i change my jsp file, i have to restart my webserver instance otherwise ia gm getting error..is ther any way i can prevent to restart the webserver?

this is the script.
mv /logs/https-`uname -a`-443/access /logs/https-`uname -a`-443/access.yesterday
compress /logs/https-`uname -a`-443/access.yesterday
/opt/netscape/server4/https-`uname -a`-443/restart
the moving and compressing works properly but the restart command doesn't actually kill the and restart the httpd process, and doesn't create the access or error log.
The restart is a graceful restart will not ask for password, the same setting was working fine for a long time. it suddenly started to give this problem.
the webserver is working fine(taking requests ,etc) except that the log files are not being written.
i did a truss and the data collected is above i see that it is giving error #91 ERESTART many times
there is another server with same settings which is working fine the only difference is that its patch level is lower.

Can anyone help? This is currently driving me nuts. I was able to
connect when I changed it to an application.
I am using the Iplanet Webserver 6.0 on a Linux 7.2 platform. Like I
said, sqlplus works fine, standard java application works fine but
when I change it to a servlet (which means it now goes through the
webserver, I get this error message)
Does anyone know what the source code is trying to do at
OCIDBAccess.java:1743 ?

That is not true. You CAN do it but you need a box
outside the firewall with proper IP address to help
you. I am not sure if Sergio still wants the answer
today after more than a year from the original post (I
did not see the post until today when I try to search
for something else). Anyway, if such a box is
available (I call it 2nd box), you could first
establish a socket between the two boxes by HTTP
tunneling (I assume it is a http proxy). You have to
initiate the socket from the 1st box. Then start
another server socket on the 2nd box, forwarding the
traffic it gets from outside back to the 1st box using
the established channel. That is it.

I tried this with apache slide.
With no luck.
I think the problem was due to not being able to configure a servlet to
receive the http request for the urls from the web dav root.
For example.
http://mserver/dav
may be the root
then you would have a file at
http://mserver/dav/files/etc
I could not configure the servlet in the rules.properties file to say
/dav/* is servlets WebdavServlet.
However you can do this with tomcat and I hope now that iWS 6.0 supports the
web.xml for deploying servlets that you now will be able to do this.
If you get this working I would like to know how you did it.

Migration from iplanet webserver to Sun Directory Server

Hi,
I have Oracle Iplanet WebServer Enterprise edition V6.0 SP2 in my dev environment. I would want to migrate the system to Sun Java System Directory Server V6.0. I have looked up the migration guide for Sun DS V6.0. But i could not find any reference to Iplanet WebServers.
Can anybody please let me know the migration procedure for migrating from Iplanet Server to Sun Directory server.

Hi,
First thing are you seeing any request coming to weblogic server? if not then,
What configuration you have added in server.xml and virtual server instance object conf file for weblogic integration.
It is pretty straight forward,
1. add weblogic plugin libproxy_61.so in plugin/weblogic directory on webserver.
2. add WLS cluster server/ standalone server information in server.xml
3. in object file create a new object of type="magnus-internal/directory" add WL specific configuration and then add condition to select WLS object created or make it default object for handling all request.

IPlanet plugin for WebLogic not working - cannot find function named wl_init

I have been having this issue for the last two days. It relates to
IPlanet plugin for WbLogic. Following is the error I get:

wl_init: unknown error
Here is my environment:
SUN E-250 Server
Solaris 8.0 with recommended Patch-set
iPlanet-WebServer-Enterprise/6.0SP4
Web logic 7 SP2
Here is how I have edited magnus.conf to include the following lines:
Init fn="load-modules"
shlib="/usr/iplanet/servers/plugins/lib/libproxy.so" func
s="wl_proxy,wl_init" Init fn="wl_init"
#ServerRoot /usr/iplanet/servers/https-cablevision5
..... rest of the file ..........
As you have noticed I have put everything regrding plugin in one line.
I have also used various other combinations of breaking this line
into multiple lines but no use.
What I have also noticed is that if I change the name of libproxy.so
to some other arbitrary file name that does not exist, even then the
error message does not change. So it looks like the library is not
even being loaded.
The library file is owned by root and has permissions to read and
execute for everyone.
I will really appreciate is I can get any help. I have noticed that
there are folks who have posted similar problem, no one gave an answer
to them. Please be more generous this time in furnishing with your
opinion.

Anyway you did not mention anything about your obj.conf configuration.
Here is how it should look, e.g.:
Init fn="load-modules" funcs="wl-proxy,wl-init"\

Ok,so you probably have those in there. If not, then please check
that you have directives in obj.conf and the magnus.conf as well.
Again the service line should be all one line.
Next, are you proxying by path or by suffix. I.E. do you want
everything to go to weblogic or just .jsp. You can configure either
way. This will change your directive. Specifically ppath means proxy
by path. To proxy by file extension (or what i call suffix) then look
at this url for specifics:

trying to GET /, jrNSAPI[57984] reports: Couldn't initialize from
remote server, JRun server(s) probably down.
Finally we were forced to uninstall the sun patch and after
that we didn't come accross with error. Are there any identified
limitations with JRun on this sun patch? Can anybody help us in
resolving this problem.

put classes12.jar path in jvm12.conf file of web server. You can configure this through GUI also. try renaming classes12.jar to classes12.zip also

IPlanet Web Server & Glassfish not takeover session from stoped instance?

I have 3 Physical Machine
1> server hostname is 'linuxgf175'(192.168.1.175) main cluster control (DAS) and Install iPlanet Webserver with gflb-configurator
2> server hostname is 'linuxgf170'(192.168.1.170) server for node1(n1) has Instance1 (i1)
3> server hostname is 'linuxgf180'(192.168.1.180) server for node2(n2) has Instance2 (i2)
1. I was install iPlanet Web Server to same DAS machine. (192.168.1.175)
2. And create Server Certificates request.
Certificate Details
Nickname cert-linuxgf175
Subject CN=linuxgf175
Issuer Self Signed
Key Type RSA
Key Size (bits) 1024
Valid From April 18, 2011 7:30:09 PM ICT
Valid Till April 18, 2012 7:30:09 PM ICT

3. And create new http-listenser (SSL for communicate with DAS port 8082 )

4. And import cert file(s1as.rfc) to glassfish-lbconfigurator wizard. (run lb-configure command #java -jar glassfish-lbconfigulator.jar )
I was exported that file like this command :
keytool -export -rfc -alias s1as -keystore /usr/glassfish3/glassfish/domains/domain1/config/keystore.jks -file ./s1as.rfc
5. Create and Apply http-lb to DAS domain success !! :)
asadmin> create-http-lb devicehost linuxgf175 deviceport 8082 --target c1 cluster_lb
Enter admin user name> admin
Enter admin password for user "admin">
Command create-http-lb executed successfully.
asadmin>
asadmin> apply-http-lb-changes cluster_lb
Enter admin user name> admin
Enter admin password for user "admin">
Command apply-http-lb-changes executed successfully.
6. Deploy "clusterjsp.ear" Application to Cluster c1 with avalibilityenable=true
deploy success

7.try to open application , use browser open to iPlanet webserver success
http://192.168.1.175:80/clusterjsp
## But, It can not handle session between instance (i1) and Instance 2 (i2)
i input some data session into instance (i1)
