I Was looking at BBC Replay today and i Keep seeing Ad's for BBC IPlayer.
Why is BT Recommending iPlayer?
If you use iPlayer on a computer/Ps3/WII etc it will effect the download limit costing you more money.
Why doesn't BT have the iPlayer on BT Vision, to have a full Catch up service like other Service's do (Like Virgin media).

BBC iPlayer came out of beta December 2007. BT Vision launched a year earlier.
The Wii has been the best selling games console for many years. So it's pretty obvious why the BBC worked with Nintendo to get an iPlayer on there.
Microsoft managed to screw up getting an iPlayer on the xbox by insisting it was only available to paying subscribers, which violated the conditions set out by the BBC Trust. If they'd gone through with that then we'd have been a step closer to having iPlayer as BT Vision is an implementation of Microsoft Mediaroom.
So, I fear that your "truth of the matter" didn't actually came anywhere near the truth.

Can anyone help with iPlayer and Sky Mobile?

Ok, I'm so close to giving up with this useless phone. There are 3 apps on my N97 which give me a constant headache.
BBC iPlayer
Sky Mobile*
YouTube
*I should point out that I only use Sky Mobile to set recordings on my Sky+. I do not use it for, nor have any desire to use it for actually watching Mobile TV.
All of these apps work absolutely fine over my home WiFi network. It's when I try to use them over 3G (my Vodafone Live! connection) that I start running in to trouble.
All 3 give me connection problems, errors, and simply refuse to load half the time when on 3G. I got so annoyed I just did a hard reset the other week, and magically all three started working again. However, now 2 of them are failing me again. YouTube (touch wood) is working fine at the moment, but iPlayer and Sky Mobile just aren't.
iPlayer sometimes works. But sometimes I get script errors (unable to load content), and sometimes it says something about checking my connection settings. I wouldn't mind but it's not actually possible to access any options for the iPlayer. Even in application settings there are no options you're able to set.
Sky Mobile simply flat out refuses to work ever on 3G. But it did after I did a hard reset for a couple of weeks, now it just stopped working! It wont even load. It just gives the error message 'Unable to connect to network - please check connection settings" or something along those lines.
I've tried so many different things. Tried setting my internet connections to 'always ask', tried setting it to default to Vodafone Live! all the time, tried setting my video streaming settings to WAP, all sorts. Every combination I can think of.
I just can't wait to get rid of this phone. I've put so many people off buying one. They see it and think it's all swish and cool, and I just say 'Don't. You'll regret it'. I can't wait for my contract to be up so I can upgrade to an iPhone now Vodafone have got them.
Can anyone help with these problems? Thanks in advance, but I don't hold out much hope...

About iPlayer.
Have a chat with Vodaphone. Streaming iPlayer over 3G IS allowed on Vodaphone contract, unlike my O2 contract. As long as your contract allows it, and you have the correct AP address, it should be fine. Vodaphone should be able to give you the setting.
Mine only works over Wlan.
FWIW, "... streaming over 3G is not currently available on iPhone handsets on any mobile network".

iPlayer uses the Nokia browser "Web". So that's where you should make the setting "Ask when needed". It should then offer you the choice of whatever you've set in Destinations> Internet> then select whatever you've chosen as your GPRS connection.(as advised, or sent to you by Vodaphone).

No, this reply is not helpful. It simply generates this little gem:

Streaming video issues i.e BBC iplayer and Youtube with Firmware 3.1.2

Hi I wonder if anyone can help me with a particular problem.I bitterly regret installing 3 as all it has done is added some shake and shuffle nonsense that I never use, and a voice memo thing that I never use. It has also slowed the boot up of the device and also where video streams from the above for example used to play without interruption, now i constantly have the device pause and have the play touch control come up, i press play and it will continue for a few seconds and then freeze again. It has got to the stage where using BBC iplayer and youtube has become frustrating and impossible and it only has started after version 3 firmware was installed. It is an Ipod Touch 2nd Gen bought in Jan this year. With version two the videos played consistently and smoothly. Why do I now have this problem and why do apple encouraged the use of update software that retards the performance of the device. What benefits does it have? Should I continue updating this device or can I ask apple to restore version 2 to the device which ran much better!

It's not the 3.x software per se, it's how it is interacting with your wireless network. If you haven't done so, download and install the latest firmware for your router and make sure your network is providing the speed and stability you need. Solve that and your YouTube problems will be less.

Capture and replay

Our application has 3 layers:
- Flash
- Java
- Oracle PL/SQL
Java layer is basically a bridge between flash and oracle. Our servlet container is the Tomcat. What I would like to do is capture all the events on java layer to replay automatically every day and make some functional tests.
There is or do you know any tool to capture and replay java events on tomcat?

JMeter can read a log file and create a script that executes the same requests as the log file mentions. Then you can add checks/assertsions. This can be used for some simple Testing.

I want to implement in my program something like a primitive capture and replay functionality.
But I have no idea how to start.
I found out about awt.robot which I think is good for replay, but upto now I have not found anything for the capture part.
I think that my main problem is, being not very experienced at all, I just don't know where to look.
I appreciate any sort of hint where and/or how to investigate further.

thank you very much. I believe this is the right direction.
But probably it is not enough to get what I want.
What I try to do is write a program which can be used to automate procedures on my PC including manoeuvering through the Windows GUI and also other applications. (I know that there are affordable tools to this, but I take this as a JAVA learning project and I really want to find out how it is done)
I believe the event listeners work only on my own application's components, isn't it?

As Tom states, that's interlacing.
Interlacing was invented when the TV was born, to carry 1/5 the frame with each Hz of the electricity rating. In the US, that's why you use 30 fps (or 29.nnn) in the US and we use 25 fps in europe as the electricity is 60Hz/50Hz.
Interlaced video should ONLY (I repeat ONLY) be used for analog TV signal transports.
Each and every digital TV set today, including all the computer screens, is Progressive, updating the full frame at each screen refresh. And most TV's even refresh much quicker, newest TV's refresh a 800Hz..! (giving then problems with the newest LTE spectums..)
If your source media in interlaced, ask why! And stop shooting interlaced.. ;-)
If you have interlaced video, make sure you apply the DeInterlace setting when you import and transcode it.

Exchange/VMware/Compellent and Replay Manager - config

I am looking to install an Exchange 2003 (no choice here) VM on Compellent storage. I am looking to protect this with a combination of Replays, Replication and VMware SRM. Can someone advise what the correct way of going about this is in terms of the VM and replays. For example, am I correct in thinking that the CITV appliance will not correctly quiese a virtual machine running Exchange? I am, therefore, assuming that Replay Manager is needed as per here --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHfuDFLZqrg. If this is the case does the VM need to use RDM's for its disk? What is the implication of using the standard vmdk? Apologies for all the questions but I am unable to find any documentation that fully addresses these points.

The UM call router etc. is only for SIP dial plans it seems. the other dialplans are handled straightforward.

Text editor recording and replaying events

Hi there.
Ive recently started Java and am writing a text editor. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction.
I want to be able to record everything a user does to a file in an XML document and replay it later. The XML isnt the problem. I was wondering if there is an existing way of capturing all the events for replay. i would also like to be able to speed up and slow down the replay.
any suggestions or even a point in the right direction would be great.

perhaps Jacareto can help you: This tool captures events and replays
them with the robot. The events can be grouped together to structure
the record, and you can add own structures you are interested in
(so you may look at "MouseEvents" or at "User chose the edit menu item
events").
You can also add own replay modules which replay the high-level
structures. If you do not want to replay in real-time, you can slow down
or speed up replay by defining a delay between the events.

IPlayer and the iPod Touch

Sorry if this has been answered before, however I have just bought my iPod touch and have been playing around with it this weekend.
I went to the BBC iPlayer and tried to watch a TV show (which I thought I would be able to do), however it wants to download the Adobe Flash Plugin which fails to download.
Is there a way around this or can this not be done.

Odd. Whilst iPlayer is predominantly Flash-based as Flash isn't available for +iPhone/iPod touch+ the BBC re-encode programmes into H.264 MPEG4 for our use. It * should * just automatically take you to that part of the site. Try navigating directly to http://www.bbc.co.uk/mobile/iplayer/index.html
I forgot to record Spooks on the iMac when I was away earlier in the week and have just watched the first two episodes by connecting the +iPod touch+ to my home cinema projector and using iPlayer. I find that it's better to switch the screen lock off (Settings > General > Auto-Lock > Never) when using iPlayer.

1. Many thanks! I look forward to your revert on being able to freely rewind and replay with the 7th Gen iPod Nano.
2. Re resuming from the position where one left off - I meant after switch-off and not merely pause. Often, with audiobooks, I have to stop for the day, and resume maybe after 1-2 days. I'll be grateful if you can check this too
3. The above features make the iPod Classic a joy to use, but I have reservations about using it on walks because of its HDD.
