IPlayer no longer loading / playing

Two weeks ago my iPlayer connection from the Goodmans set-top box suddenly decided not to 'play'. I went through the usual sequence of a power off/on reset of the TV, set-top box, HomePlug adapter, BT HomeHub router
All other connections in the house, both wired and wireless work OK
Connected to the set-top box and loaded the iPlayer option, chose a film to view, it went off to say loading but hung
Gave it a day or so and tried again no joy
(Couldn't have anything to do with the BT router could it? - everything else was working as before)
So process of elimination started ................
1. Replaced Goodmans set-top box (3 years old) with Humax 'Smart' Freesat box - extravagent but justified as it turns my TV into a 'Smart' TV. Connected up the new box, verified an IP address via DHCP, clicked on iPlayer, picked a programme to download, response - loading .........................................................................................
2. So not the set-top boxes giving problem
3. Swapped HomePlug unit with another on which I knew was working e.g. passing packets including a video stream from an IP camera - no joy
4. Plugged my laptop into the HomePlug adapter and ran iPlayer application from the BBC web site - chose a film to download to watch - perfect reception, no problem with it running over the network from the laptop
5. I decided to eliminate the HomePlug connection by plugging in a Cat5 cable directly from the 'new' set-top box directly into a lan port on the BT router - messy but last option of elimination process
6. Ran up iPlayer, via the TV and 'new' Smart set-top box, chose a film to watch, loading .................................
7. Must be the high performance, state-of-the-art, BT router. Ran diagnostic checks, all looked OK. The Humax set-top box was there along with a PC, laptop, IP camera and various mobile phones. I did notice that a couple of times the Humax set-top box disappeared off the network plan while the PC (both connected on the HomePlug network) stayed on consistently
8. Last resort (should have done it in the first place) - check the firewall
9. Guess what, the BT router's firewall has decided 'out of the blue' to block any packets relating to iPlayer or ITV player
"15:04:27, 26 Dec
OUT: BLOCK [9] Packet invalid in connection (TCP 192.168.0.4:42854->83.222.237.181:443 on ppp1)"
10. It doesn't block packets from my laptop that I plug in to the HomePlug adapter port so why is it blocking the request packets from the set-top box?
11. So thats two set-top boxes from different manufacturers that it rejects

Same as me!
Goodmans freesat box, bt Homehub 5.
Thanks bt. No iplayer over Christmas, and still not working.
Not to mention the 2 hours of my valuable time trying to find the cause.
No replies apart from this one.......
WELL DONE BT!!!!!

  • BBC iPlayer no longer works on iPhone (UK)

Have been able to access and play BBC iPlayer content without any problem for ages but it has stopped working.
When I tap the click to play button it will play the sound but video will no longer load - just sits there on splash screen with Play button greyed out. Is this a known bug or a deliberate change by BBC to nobble the service?
Cannot find anything anywhere about this issue so maybe its just me. Javascript is enabled in mobile Safari settings and as far as I can see nothing has changed.

Outside of the UK, the BBC is a commercial organisation and creates a few extra paid for Apps for the international market, including "BBC Listener" which we don't get in the UK. However, all the BBC Radio Stations and TV Stations/programs are available for free on the web in the UK (and the radio stations in most third-party radio streaming apps).

  • Long Load Times on Graphic Intensive Games

I'm experiencing some absurdly long load times (1-3 hours) with many games (SPORE, Portal, X:3, etc...) that I believe may be related to how graphically intensive they are. Older games with lower graphics quality (WoW, Civ 4, etc...) load up fine.
When I load any newer game the icon appears in the tray and the computer does nothing else for at least an hour, whereupon the program loads and begins playing immediately--often without any further delays or issues.
I also use Boot Camp to run Windows Vista (Ultimate 32) and experience no delays when running SPORE on Windows.

  • Zen micro - takes so long to play the next s

    Hello,
I just got a Zen Micro and I am thinking of returning it tomorrow because it takes so long to play one song, then skip to another. I press forward song or backward, or I jump to another album and press to play another song and sometimes I have to wait up to 0 seconds until the next songs starts to play - very annoying. Often I wait at last 5 seconds. Do you experience this? Can anything be done? This is not acceptable.
    Thanks, Holden

I am the one who started this thread and have some information about why I was experiencing this problem.
A friend of mine who turned me on to the Zen Micro never experienced the problem I was experiencing - waiting too long to skip from one song to another. He suggested that my Micro might be defecti've. So I returned it and got another one.
I returned it, went home and updated the firmware and again loaded it with tons of songs using Napster-to-go. Nothing changed - it still would sometimes take several seconds to jump from one song to another (****it would play straight through play lists and albums without a hitch though).
I decided to keep the Micro because it is such a cool device and appeals to me much more than the iPod.
Glad I did. Last night I started ripping my CD collection and put it on to the Micro. I listened to some of the songs and noticed I could jump around from track to track without any delay.
I only experience the delay using the Napster-to-go service. I guess there's some small piece of code in the PlaysForSure update that checks to see if the tracks are legal or not. That's my guess.
The Micro is amazing - sounds amazing, looks amazing, the navigation is amazing. And it works with Napster-to-go perfectly (well except for the short delay that I've described).
Thanks to everyone for your comments.

  • Long load times and poor application performance

We have packaged and deployed Adobe CC using SCCM within my school division. It pushed out fine, but now when we attempt to open Photoshop (or any other CC app) it has unusually long load times. 2-4 minutes. It seems to be hanging at the "Reading preferences" stage. After the application appears to have started, it takes an unusually long time to actually start working in the application (it appears to just hang).

    Hello There,
EXE's always bundle additional files because it is a stand-alone entity. And, if the size 9GB then it will surely take time to load all the files. I'll check with the team again on how we can optimize it. BTW, are the videos inserted as slide video or Event video?
    Thanks,
    Vish

  • Long loading time if no internet connection available (VS 2005 Redist)

    Hallo forum members!
I've been searching for a solution for my problem for a while - without success. It isn't really a critical issue, but quite annoying anyways.
Here's the problem i'm dealing with: I've developed an .NET application using Visual Studio 2005 and the included Crystal Report classes. When deploying my module everything works  as expected, offering a decent performance when loading the Crystal Report assemblies provided by the redistributable package - if an internet connection is available. If the system doesn't offer such a connection (e.g. not properly configured proxy settings) the module takes a huge amount of time to be loaded. An examination (using ProcMon) leaded to the conclusion that the Crystal Report assemblies try to retrieve the system connection settings from the registry in order to establish a connection to the internet. This is done only once when loading for the first time.
Has anyone experienced the same problem? What is this connection used for? Is there a way to suppress this behaviour on systems without a valid internet connection in order to avoid this annoying long loading time?
Thanks on advance for your help.
    Greetings,
    L.F.

Nothing like a good vacation. And I got your christmas present early :). While you were away we (actually one other customer) figured it out. I have written a note re. the resolution that was supposed to be published yesterday, but it's still not out there, so here it is as I submitted it:
    Symptom
When a report is loaded is takes between 150 - 180 seconds to display
This is only reproducible on computers with no internet connection
There are no error messages and the report comes up eventually
    Reproducing the Issue
Create a Windows application with the following function calls:
              new Report()
             report.SetDataSource(dataSet)
The function SetDataSource takes 2 plus minutes to execute
    Cause
On SetDataSource() an attempt is made to connect to crl.verisign.com
SetDataSource() uses the framework and as per the Microsoft Knowledge Base specified under "Resolution", it is actually the framework that is attempting the connection
    Resolution
Solution is described in this Microsoft Knowlege Base:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936707
The following Microsoft article also discusses the issue:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb629393.aspx
An alternative workaround to the above is as follows:
Open IE and go to the Tools menu and select Internet Options...
    Go to the Advanced tab
    Find the Security heading
Under the Security heading find "Check for publisher's certificate revocation"
    Uncheck this option
    Keywords
long time load crl.verisign.com certificate revoked internet
The note will be published here:
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/businessobjects-notes
and the number will be 1270414

Check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. If you have any installed, turn that off, relaunch Safari.
If it's not Extensions, check for third party Safari add ons.

  • Itunes will no longer load on my computer.  I tried reloading it, but that did not work either

Itunes will not longer load, how do I troubleshoot the issue?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • IPod no longer stops playing when a podcasts ends

Starting with iPod software 2.1 and iTunes 8.0, my iPod Touch 1st Gen. no longer stops playing when the end of a Podcast is reached. It will start playing the next Podcast episode in the list although that is an older podcast that I have already listened to.
Prior to these software updates, I would be listening to, let's say, the MacCast podcast number 100, when it finished, the iPod would stop. I could then go up the list and play a newer episode or switch to a different podcast. However, now, once episode 100 finishes, the next episode down the list is number 99 and it starts playing automatically (even though I have already listened to it).
Is there some new setting I am missing? Is anyone else having this problem?
    Regards,

It's a new "feature" of the latest firmware upgrade.
    I personally hate it.

  • IPod no longer resumes play where last paused

After the 3.0 update, I've noticed that after pausing the iPod and then using the phone for other things, it will no longer resume play where I last paused. For example, I shuffle almost 100% of the time I play music. If I pause the music to surf the internet or otherwise do other things on the iPhone, when I go back to play music, it is no longer paused on the last song it was playing ("Now Playing" should be displayed on upper right corner), but now starts a new shuffle; i.e., no previous songs played.
    Has anybody else noticed this?

    Hi!
I can confirm, that the playback problem, where iPod starts at the beginning of the first song on your iPhone, still exists with OS3.1. I have written my second feedback to Apple regarding this issue, one for 3.0 and one for 3.1.
I do have playlists in use, but I dont believe, that they have something to do with this issue.
If you also have the same problem, please leave a feedbac on http://www.apple.com/feedback.
    Thanks, bye

In the case you aren't trolling, here's some alternative mapping services.
Apple is constantly working on improving their new Maps service, but until it reaches the level of finesse necessary to be usable, take a look at some alternatives.
If you would like to send a suggestion to Apple, please go to http://www.apple.com/feedback or you can Report a Problem via the Maps app by tapping the bottom right.
Bing Maps offers a very good maps service with Bird's Eye, a feature similar to Flyover. It's arguably better than Google Maps.

MapQuest also has a very nice app available.

Nokia Maps is another great service that you can add to your Home Screen via a web shortcut.

  • Podcast app no longer auto-plays next episode. Is this a setting that I can change?

After updating to iOS6 and downloading the app update, the the next episode in the "unplayed episode" list no longer auto-plays. I really liked that feature and would like to be able to turn it on again. Any one know if there is a setting and where it is? I've tried to find it to no avail. Thanks!

Anyone has a solution for this ?
I like to listen to podcasts in my car. But my favorite podcasts last 4-6 minutes and the iPhone is in the glovebox
Needless to say I had to stop listening to podcasts since the podcast App took over the music app.

  • Video playlists no longer auto-playing (4.3)

I've noticed that my music video playlists no longer auto-play from one song to the the next with the latest OS update (iPhone 4.3, Apple TV 4.2). Basically, a music video stops and the next one doesn't start until I press play again.
    Any solutions?

    I have the same problem.
I am using an iPhone 4 (iOS 4.3) and various Apple TVs (4.2).
When i start a playlist with music videos from the iTunes store, the first video will be played on the Apple TV and then Apple TV plays this Video again but "repeat" is not selected. Actually the next clip in the list shut be played. Seems to be a bug :-(
