Ipod 1.2.1 Line Out

I updated iPod with the new software, the line out from my dock doesn't work anymore. I can hear music, but it is very quiet and the volume doesn't work for it. On the go it is fine but i use the dock to connect the iPod to my stereo. I just want to go back a version but it seems I am not allowed. I don't know where to find 1.2.0 or what ever it is. I tried to go to 1.1.2 but it told me I couldn't because there was a newer version. Could someone please provide a real answer to how i could either fix this problem or go back a version?

That is strange. I have the ipod connected with a third party wall adapter and the dock and now it works. I don't know. I barely use the usb adapter anyway so i guess this is good enough.

If resetting it does not work, take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • Line out audio is very soft

    Hello all
I have connected the line out from the universal dock to my Sony stereo.
The input on the stereo is marked as MD, which I'm assuming was Sony's mini disk player.
However I have to crank the volume on the stereo to hear even the faintest sound?
    Any help appreciated.

I have discovered the same issue on my iPod Classic. The line out is no longer fixed through the Universal Dock. It is controlled by the volume on the iPod. Increase the volume on the iPod and your volume will increase. Previous model iPods had a true fixed line out. I guess that feature is gone with the Classic model.

  • Headphone jack - Line out?

    Hi!
I want to connect my Nano to a headphone amp. I was wondering if the headphone jack on the ipod is considered a line out?
I know that some docks have a line out whose signal comes directly from the USB connection.
    Any thoughts?
    thanks
    mike

    The headphone jack would work.
However, the quality and volume will be okay, but not great.
I would recommend an iPod nano dock or a Universal Dock. The line out port on the dock is of much better quality.
    See this as well...

  • Line Out in Software 2.0 Not Working

Shortly after upgrading to the 2.0 software on my 1st gen iPhone, I docked it in my Universal Dock, with some speakers plugged into the line out (like many times before). I didn't get the airport mode prompt, and it didn't chirp, like it always had. When I played audio, it only played through the speakerphone speakers, not through the dock. I restored the software and re-synced everything and it started working, but I've since noticed it not working on a speaker-dock, a Belkin iPod car charger with line out that I've used since I got the iPhone, and also in an iPhone dock (which I tried plugging my headphones into). It charges fine through all of the above, but the line out does not work. What could be wrong? Is anyone else experiencing the same thing? Thanks.

I'm having the exact same problem, or at least one very similar to the above one.
I have a first generation iPhone that is now on firmware 2.0.1
I did not try using the line-out on the dock before now.
When I put the iPhone into the dock (have tried both with power in from wall and from computer USB and without power as well) and connect computer speakers or headphones to the dock's line out with my iPhone in the dock I get no audio from the speakers/headphones... audio only plays through the phone's speakers.
How do I get it to switch to playing through the dock's lineout?

  • IPod Universal Dock - line out?

Does the Universal dock provide line-out audio, or is it variable audio only? If only variable, can I use an older iPod photo dock with my 60 GB iPod w/video? That one has line-out, doesn't it?

Hey, I used my old dock and connected the line-out and s-video with my new 5G and everything works fine.

  • Is the iPhone4 dock line out dif from iPods?

My SendStation dock connector, which works on iPods, exhibits no audio from the line out connector
when connected to my new iPhone4.
Just in case, I made sure that the USB connector is also connected.
    Still no audio.
    Headphone connector works.
Google does show a few people having very low line out audio level problem.
    No answers yet.
    I'm hoping it's a setting.
    Thanks.

When I bought my first iPod (a 40GB hard drive based model) it came wth a dock.   have used that dock over the years as I upgraded to a 5th Gen iPod, then a first gen iPod Touch, an iPhone 3G, a 3rd Gen iPod Touch, and now an iPhone 4.  All my devices seem to work about the same in that very old dock.  Only the hard drive based devices fit it properly, but the other devices stll plug n (with plenty of free space around them) and play just fine.
Based on my experiences, I wold guess that it's either your Sendstation or your iPhone that is the problem but based on what you provide it is hard to determine whch.  If ou have any friends with iPhone 4's you could ask them to try their phones in your dock.  If theirs works fine, it is probably your Phone, otherwise if theirs have problems too I would suspect you have a faulty dock.

  • Line-out audio signal of 6G (sixth generation) iPod Classic (120GB)

I suspect that the audio signal that comes out of the Dock Connector of the 6G (sixth generation) iPod Classic (120GB) is not a line-out. Because like the iPod Nano the 6G iPod Classic outputs a signal that can be made louder by turning up the volume from the click-wheel.
Is this true? Am I getting the same signal from the dock as what I have on the headphone port?
For music on the go this is not an issue but if the iPod is one of many sources going into your hi-fi amplifier the experience will be frustrating!
    Thanks,

I have an iPod Classic 120GB and have just connected it to the dock that came with my old iPod Photo (using a piece of cardboard as a dock adapter because, for some reason, the dock design must have changed and the dock adapter that came with the classic won't fit).
I can state that changing the volume level on the iPod has NO effect on the volume coming from the line out of the dock. The line out volume is also much louder than the loudest volume I can get from the earphone socket.

  • IPod Line Out Problem

I have my iPod connected to my car stereo to play music via the line out signals. It is powered / charged via USB connections on pins 23 (USB power), 16 (USB Ground), 25 (USB Data -) and 27 (USB Data +). It sends line out audio to my stereo via pins 2 (Common), 3 (Line Out Audio Right), 4 (Line Out Audio Left). Pin 11 is connected to Pins 15 and 16 to send the audio to Line Out rather than the onboard speakers. Pin 21 is connected to Pin 15 and 16 via a 68K ohm resistor to avoid error messages. When docked the charging works correctly but the audio signal will switch between Line Out and the onboard speakers. It will start by sending music via Line Out but after 20 seconds it may switch to the onboard speakers. After another 20 seconds it may switch back to Line Out or it may continue to play via the onboard speakers. Eventually it will usually switch back to Line Out but it may take a long time. The fact that it repeatably switches back and forth after 20 seconds is interesting. It's like it is checking to see what mode it is in and it's not seeing what it should see. I've checked and reworked all of my connections several times. I still can't eliminate this problem. Any idea how to correct this? I would really appreciate some help!

EDIT: I just tried headphones instead of my home dock and had the same problem...is my headphone jack bad?

  • IPod Dock - Charge only and line out when iTunes not open

Hi I just got an iPod dock which is connected both to my computer via USB and my sound system via the line out.
Here is what I want to happen. Come back from college listening to iPod, remove headphones place into dock and let the music play through my sound system. Then when I need to update my iPod open iTunes and start autosync. Is this possible with out unplugging my USB cable and replugging it in.
So far what happens is the second I dock the iPod it goes to Do not diconnect and all music stops. I changed all the settings in the ipod preferences like open itunes when connected, automatically sync, use as disk drive. Using different combinations and also disabled the drive from device manager but then when I open iTunes it doesnt sync.
Is there anything I can do?

Mine just did the same thing, try holding the center and the menu buttons at the same time it worked for mine.

  • Can I record audio on an iPad direct from a mac via line out

I use the noteability app alot, recording audio at a live lecture works great.  However, due to a bug you can not add an audio file directly into your notes (at the moment), you must record them.
I have a bunch of podcasts that I would like to add to my notes.  I know I could play them from my mac and record audio through the ipads mic but what I hoped  to do was connect a male to male cable between the line out of my mac into my ipad, playing the audio without interferance.  This didn't work
Does anyone know if there is a similar way to do this or something I could have done wrong.
    Thanks

yeah - you can do it, but you need an adapter.  The earphone jack on a pad is a special jack with stereo headphone uot put and a seperate mic in channel.  The adapters i have seen are usually built to accomodate a standard 1/4 in - into the pad, like the one in the attached link.  In theory, you could use the lineout on the mac, to a 1/4 in male - then into this adapter to get it back into the pad.   Somebody probably makes the cable you need with the 1/4 shift, but I couldn't find one.
Options - in you notes, insted of copying the file, put a link to the podcast

  • Disharging with USB, Freezing on Sync, Hard Drive noise on Line Out

I have been dealing with three issues with my 60GB iPod click wheel with color display (Photo).
The first is something that slowly creeped in, which is hard drive noise that is audible through the line out when the iPod is charging in a dock. I'd like to say it's like a ground loop issue, but it's in my car, on my iHome, and on my apple dock when plugged into power on a stereo system. It sounds like the spinning of the hard drive is correlated to the noise.
Second, over the past year or so, I've noticed that when I have the iPod plugged into any mac using USB, the iPod discharges. My friend has noticed the same problem on her 40GB 3rd generation iPod. We've tried them on several computers. Firewire connection, no problem, only USB when plugged into a computer, not the power adapter.
Just recently, the iPod froze up iTunes and the rest of my Mac (G4 MDD Dual 1gHz, OS X 10.4.10, iTunes 7.4.2) during sync. I made reformatted the iPod using Disk Utility, Restored to iPod, making sure to plug into power to finish the restore, then attempted to resync. Two attempts of this and I get the same result, a freeze.
The first two issues, I've adapted with, but this last one is just frustrating. I will attempt to sync using a firewire cable, but that should not be the solution. This iPod came with a USB cable, it should charge and sync with one. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thank you!

ok I went here for instruction on how to take it apart since I wasn't having much luck on my own:
    http://www.flexbeta.net/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=20&t=8269
his tip worked for me so far. hopefully this won't be just a temporary fix:
Good tip: if your iPod seems dead and the hard drive is throwing errors pull out the connection at the bottom of the ipod mainboard and plug it back in, this will hard reset your ipod and worked a few times for me

  • IPhone dock 30-pin connector to line-out 3.5mm adapter/cable?

    Hi folks,
I'm looking for a compact adaptor or cable to go from my iPhone 30-pin connector to a 3.5mm cable (or 3.5mm plug). Wondering if there are any recommendations, as some pre-date the iPhone and thus prompt the iPhone to switch to airport mode...
    I've found:
SendStation - Products - PocketDock Line Mini Out USB (I don't need the USB part, but it's handy I guess)
    http://www.inspiretech.com/p-483-dock-to-35-auxilary-audio-cable.aspx
IPHONE LINE OUT DOCK W/ 3.5MM JACK (WHITE COLOR) - eBay Other, Audio Cables Connectors, A V Accessories Cables, Electronics. (end time 17-Sep-09 02:25:07 AEST)
ZIP-AUDIO-IP1-B iPod/iPhone Retractable Stereo 3.5mm to iPod/iPhone Dock Connector (White), Apple Mac and iPod Accessories
There are no doubt other (maybe better?) options so look forward to any tips.
    Cheers,
    B

Did deeper research.  It's apparently true that phone call audio is not and cannot be routed to the "line out" of the iPhone.  I'm disappointed.  It appears to be a hardware design thing, as I've found no app that would enable this, and darned if I can think of a situation that would have this capability as a downside.

  • Hdajackretask line out question

    Hi there!
I want to remap (retask) headphones jack (3.5 mm) to act as line out.
Trouble is in that I can choose only from "Line out front", "Line out back", "Line out center", "Line out side", but I want just one simple "Line out" to connect to 1 channel amplifier.
What can I make in such situation? Will "Line out front" be suitable in such situation? May be "Advanced options" checkbox will help (but I don't know how to configure port in this mode)?
    Thanks.

Better audio would be relative.  Remember the audio will only be as good as the weakest link in the chain.  If you are prepared to use high quality audio files, amplification and speakers or headphones, then yes, you can get better audio performance.  But if you are only planning to make a partial commitment, you aren't going to get any gain and will just waste your money.
Here is an example of a iPhone/iPad/iPod D/A device on Amazon.  I'm sure there are many more you can check out.
    http://www.amazon.com/Nuforce-ICON-IDO-SILVER-Audiophile-Grade-Headphone-Devices /dp/B005LRTH5Q/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1414176166&sr=8-7&keywords=ipod+lightning+ cable+headphone+amps
You don't want to go too cheap because a poor quality D/A converter may make the audio worse.  What devices like this does, is take a function that your iPad already does through built-in circuitry and do it externally with the assumption that you can buy a D/A converter and amplifier with higher quality components than those used by Apple.

  • Line out and headphone problems

Just recently I have started to have a problem where if I use the line-out funtion of my iPod audio will not come out of the headphones afterwards. I use the Belkin auto-kit so I just connect my iPod whenever I drive somewhere, and it annoys me that I have to reset my iPod every time I want to listen through my headphones. I have tried unplugging and plugging back in, increasing and decreasing the volume, pausing/resuming, and changing songs but to no avail. The only solution is resetting the iPod. I was just wondering if anyone out there has had this problem, or knew if there was a more practical solution than just resetting the iPod every time.
5g iPod 30GB   Windows XP Pro

Went to the genius bar earlier today to have my Mac Pro looked at. They said that front board and backplane failure is fairly common. In fact, the genius mentioned that his own 12-core suffered the same issues insofar as audio crackling and eventual analog out failure.
I should be getting it back in 5-7 days.
