IPod 120GB keeps restarting

Hi. I'm having problem with my 120GB iPod. It keep on restarting without getting through to the main menu. Even if I switch to disk mode and restore it on iTunes, the problem still remains. One thing I notice after restoring, my iPod will be completely blank (without any folders, including the hidden ipod_control folder). I need to manually create the folder in order to connect it with iTunes (in disk mode). I also can sync my music in disk mode but once I restart it to main mode, it just keeps restarting again. Any suggestions, please? Thanks in advance.

I have had this problem with my 160 gig classic. It will reset itself over and over and nothing else can be done while it is doing this. I just let it go until the battery runs out, then charge it by using the AC cable, not connecting to the computer. Once the battery is completely dead and it is recharged it stops.

  • My ipod 120GB keeps resetting while playing, any hints?

my ipod 120GB keeps resetting while playing, any hints?

The problem is the "screen saver". Normally after some time the backlight of your ipod is switched off automatically and a clock appears. This doesn't work properly and leads to resets.
The solution: You have to go in the main menu to "settings/backlight and activate "Always on". After that your ipod should work properly. To avoid a very low battery runtime now, you have to adjust the brighness settings to a low value.
This also solves problems like radomly skipping songs or stopping playback.
I really would like apple to solve this problem, but i doubt this will ever happen.

  • My 4th gen iPod Touch keeps restarting itself then crashing.

My iPod died a few days ago, so I plugged it in as usual. When it started charging, it restarted itself. Nothing out of the ordinary. But then it crashed.
The first time it crashed it had gone to a blank black screen for a while, then went to a staticky white page, then shut down.
I did not press any buttons, but it tried to restart itself again. The same thing happened.
After a few times of doing that, it successfully got to the lock screen. Everything looked normal, so I went to plug in my password. It crashed again and started doing the same thing.
The next time it got to the lock screen, I attempted to disable it. It worked. When I went back to putting my correct password in, it crashed again.
    PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!
(P.S. My iPod will be 3 years old in April, so I am ready to buy a new one if it is necessary)

When you connect the i-touch to your computer do you notice the "Other" portion of the space on your itouch may be over .5gb?
The average space for the "Other" portion is roughly less then .5 GB ... Its the yellow bar in i-tunes when your i-touch is connected ... I had the same issue where the "Other" portion of my i-touch 4 was reading like 5.5 GB, I did some research and found that that space is actually not free space at all, its actually full of left over files and such.
The way to decrease the size is to back up what you have, and restore it.  then reinstall all the apps and music and videos.  You will notice all that yellow bar is almost gone, and you will have a lot more space!

  • Ipod Touch keeps restarting after "red slider" shutdown...and other issues?

Hi There...I'm considering returning my Ipod Touch and thought I'd see if anyone else was experiencing similar issues before I do anything drastic. I purchased a second generation Ipod Touch in December (2.2.1 update) and everything seemed to be working well for a while. I guess it was sometime in January that I noticed my ipod restarting itself after shutdown (red slider)...almost every single time. I simply CAN NOT shut down my ipod when I want to. It does shut down temporarily, then...sometimes seconds, sometimes minutes later...it restarts on it's own.
I've reset all settings, and I've tried turning off wifi (which seemed to work temporarily), but now it's doing it again. I've heard that if you continue to hold down the sleep/wake button while you slide the red slider to "off" it will cause the ipod to restart...so I'm wondering if maybe there's something wrong with the button? Sometimes it seems like if I fiddle with the button (pulling up on it and such), it will allow me to shut it down...but this could be coincidence. I've seen a posting on another mac forum outlining a similar problem but there were no replies. Can anyone offer any other suggestions?
Also, I've been experiencing volume issues with my Ipod...sometimes there's just no volume while songs, youtube videos, etc. are playing. The "progress"(?) bar shows that audio/video is playing, but there is no sound (and yes...the volume is turned up). Seems to happen most often when the headset is plugged in...but that's how I use it most of the time. I do hook it up to an older tuner/amp with a 1/8" to RCA Y-cord, and with a 1/8" - 1/8" cord in my truck and it's cut out then as well.
Both problems seem to be getting worse I only have a few apps on the Ipod (aside from music, podcasts, and some mp4 video) and can list them if anyone thinks this might be the issue. I'd really appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks,
    M.P.

Thanks for your input, but as far as I understand, this restarting issue is definitely not normal for the Ipod touch. Nowhere online or in the provided literature does it say that the ipod is supposed to automatically restart after shutdown. Ignoring the problem by not shutting it down at all is like saying your broken car is fixed because you're not going to drive it anymore! LOL!
Anyhow, this is a relatively small problem now compared to the volume issues which are occurring with greater and greater frequency. It's gotten to the point where I can no longer even listen to a full song from the album I just bought from itunes! This "cutting out" occurs with and without (listening through internal speaker) headphones attached (several different pairs tested) and while hooked to an audio tuner with a high quality cable. I've blown out the jack on the ipod with compressed air to dislodge any possible dust or debris, and have followed the trouble shooting procedures as outlined in the apple support document. The symptoms lead me to believe that this is not so much simply "a volume issue" as it is a symptom of a much larger problem. The volume slider has now started to jump around on it's own after the volume has cut out, and the song continues to play. I have experienced so many problems (not all listed hear) and have heard so many complaints about the ipod touch, that I'm starting to seriously reconsider my purchase...and I'm a huge Mac fan! I haven't abused my Ipod...if anything I'm over cautious with it.
Could this be software related? Something that will be sorted with an update in a few weeks time?Has anyone experienced or successfully resolved any of the issue that I've listed here - or am I on my own? I'm guessing maybe I should just bring it back...
    Best,
    M.P.

  • IPOD 5G Keeps Restarting

I have had my IPOD for about 4 months now. I think the battery got totally discharged, so I plugged it in to the computer and the battery with the lightning bolt was there and it said it may take up to 30 minutes to get a charge. I waited about 8 hours and nothing happened. So I went and got the USB adapter and plugged it into that the Ipod keeps turning on and off and won't keep a charge. Is my battery completely dead and need a new one. Suggestions. Thank you.

Try resetting your iPod while it's connected to your computer. Follow these instructions:
    1. Lay your iPod down on your computer desk.
    2. Connect your iPod to your computer (if it's not already).
    3. Use your pointer finger from your left hand, and press down on the Menu button.
    4. Wait a few seconds.
    5. Use your pointer finger from your other hand, and press down on the Select button.
    6. Hold them down together until the Apple logo appears.
Does your computer detect the iPod at all? If not, try forcing it into disk mode. Once it's in disk mode, see if your computer detects it.
If you can get your computer to detect the iPod, try restoring it with the latest updater...
    iPod Updater - Version 1.1.1
    Hope this helps.

  • My ipod 5 keeps restarting over and over

I haven't even had my iPod 5 for a year and it's starting to restart by itself over and over again.

    First
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If you can't do the above
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

  • My iPod touch keeps restarting itself.

I updated my 4th gen ipod touch this morning and since then it is stuck continually restarting itself. My ipod gets to the start up screen where the apple logo shows and then it switches itself off and then turns itself back on again and this repeats until the battery dies. I charged it thinking once it had died it would fix its own problem, but it continued even after that. I've tried the full restart by holding the home button and lock screen, but that only stops it for a second. Anybody have any ideas on how to fix it?

and wont go to the lock screen, all it can do is show the apple logo and after two minutes it will turn off. I tried going into recovery mode but it hasn't worked.

  • Ipod just keeps restarting

Ok My Ipod has only a tiny bit of battery left and when I plug it into my computer to charge it it just turns on and off over and over again and my Itunes dose not recognize it.
    What should I do??
    I am running windows XP

Sometimes if the battery gets completely discharged, simply connecting to a USB port on the computer doesn't supply enough power to "kick start" the charging process. In theory it should do, but yours seems to be a common problem.
Do you have access to a wall charger?
