Ipod 160 Gig Question

I have a 160 gig Ipod classic and have encountered a new problem since the latest version of Itunes. I listen to a lot of audio books and they used to play one cd to the next.
Now the Ipod stops after each chapter and I have to manually find the next cd and start it. Is there a way to have the IPOD play one CD to the next like it used to?

Solved the problem, some how the little loop button or repeat all was deselected on the Ipod classic. Now everything is working normally again. I'm glad it was a simple fix. Thanks for your input.

  • IPod 160 GB questions (from a 2005 iPod 5G owner)

I have some questions about the iPod Classic 160 GB currently offered (October 2011). I know technically some may have been addressed, but over a span of several years (some as far back as 3-4 years) and I want to make sure this info is as current as possible. I have an iPod 5G from 2005 and am looking to upgrade.
    1. Can you still manually manage music/video such that you can copy music/podcasts/video from multiple computers without hassle? (As per my iPod 5G) I want to be very clear, as with the iPhone what is called "manually manage" is not accurate, and it still syncs to one computer.
    2. Can you still enable disk mode? (As per my iPod 5G)
    3. Did Apple ever end up adding the ability to add a shuffle on/off to the main menu? On my iPod 5G, from the main menu you could only shuffle ALL songs, not simply turn shuffle on/off when listening to a playlist. To do so, you had to go through several menus.
    4. Do podcasts play sequentially? On my iPod 5G, if playing a podcast via the podcast menu, when the podcast ended the iPod would cease playing and return to the top/main menu even if more podcasts remained. In order to have it continue on to the next podcast, you had to play podcasts from a playlist. This was a hassle when driving or in the winter when the iPod was in your jacket and not easily accessible.

    1.  Yes.
    2.  Yes.
    3.  No.
    4.  I'm not 100% sure on this one, but someone else may be able to confirm.  I believe you still have to put the podcasts into a sort playlist first and then sync that playlist to your iPod.

  • Ipod 160 gig classic sound ?

hey i got a question is it normal that your ipod 160gig classic make a piep sound sometimes if you scroll in the menu ?? thnx
    Message was edited by: blu300

I've bought an iPod Classic as well. And I experience the same sound. The reason why this happens is because the iPod Classic has a spinning hard drive like the one in your computer instead of the flash drive found in the other iPods.
Whenever you browse e.g. your music the hard drive starts spinning, and when the song is found it stops the hard drive to save battery. it's the stopping of the hard drive that makes this sound.
Hope this was useful to you

  • My Ipod 160 GB

It has a red circle with a red x in the middle how do I get it off. I went to the support page. I even re-did iTunes even. Please Help

I'm having the same issue. Old ipod 160 gig worked for years; it crashed. I bought a new "used" ipod. It starts reading all my music and syncs a few songs then crashes. I get the same screen you do about duplicate, etc. Very frustrating. I'm downloaded the new iTunes (not impressed). I've tried unchecking most of my music to see if that would help but it didn't. Any suggestions? Thanks

  • My iPod 160 GB Classic won't sync at all

Alright, so I got this iPod at Christmas. It randomly started to erase my music, and then it wouldn't register on my computer whatsoever. I've gone to the Apple store itself, asking the manager for some help. They told me they were too "busy" to deal with me- and that I should just contact the Support Groups on line on iTunes. So here I am. Her only advice was to try erasing iTunes on my computer and reapplying it to my computer- and I just tried that, but it hasn't worked. Another thing my iTunes is saying is that there are two files on my computer for this device? The exact wording is- "The iPod "Laura's Ipo" cannot be synced. A duplicate file name was specified." What does that even mean?! I'm really sick and tired of running into dead ends and nothing working for me- I loved this iPod before it crashed on me... Can someone please help? I don't know how much more of this I can take...

  • Alpine CDE-103Bt Head Unit and Problem with 160 Gig Ipod Classic

    Hi,
2 weeks agao I brought a new Alpine CDE-103BT Head unit for my car. I have owned one of the old 160 gig classics for the last year and a half and at the time I brough the unit I was told this should all work sweet. Indeed all of the documentation from Alpine, and the Sales person, said this would not be a problem.
Unfortunately from Day one, most times after I received a phone call, while playing my ipod, the Head Unit would givesme an "Error-03" message and stop playing my music. I would then have to unplug my ipod, reset it, and plug it back in. Extremely frustrating.
The people I brought the Head Unit from are trying to say its an Ipod problem, yet I never had any problems with it and after I contacted the Australian Ipod help line they said it all appears to be working correctly. The firmware version I was on when I first tried the ipod on the head unit was 1.1.2. The Alpine manual said it should be 1.1.1 (then again you would expect them to be able to cope with updates) so as a last ditch attempt I downgraded the firmware on my ipod to 1.1.1, but it did not make a difference.
The only other thing I have noticed is that I switch the repeat and shuffle settings off when I plug in the unit, but after I unplug it after an Error-03 the Repaet function has been swtiched to all - I am not sure if this is what is causing the problem.
I am getting pretty frustrated with everything and I was wondering if anyone else has come accross this issue and even me helpful had they found a way to fix it.
If not has anyone had any postive expereinces with Alpine head units?
    Thanks

  • 160 Gig Not recognizing artists on the ipod

I have a 160 Gig Ipod classic its brand new just started adding music on to it. I have found that when I go to artist selection, there are artists not there to select. So i check that i put them on there. There are saved on my Ipod. Then i go to album select and the artist is there but still not in the artist select location. Its happening for artists, Brian Mcknight, Flo Rida. And yes these are their cds bought and paid for. Any clue?

    Hello blackdragon381
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Make sure these artists and tracks are NOT marked as part of a compilation in iTunes. To do this, highlight the tracks in iTunes, right->click on them and choose "Get Info". When the window pops up, head over to the Info tab and make sure there is NO tick mark next to "part of a compilation." Then sync the updated changes to your iPod and see if that helps.

  • Purchased, mp3 and Podcasts won't sync to 160 gig classic

I have a six-month-old iPod Classic 160 gig, with about 90 gig of music and 10 gig of video on it. In the last two weeks, though, iTunes tells me that 109 tracks won't sync, with the error message "because they cannot be played on this iPod." Some of them, homegrown movies, I understand, but others are either podcasts downloaded through the iTunes store, purchased music (Sheryl Crow's new album) or recently ripped tracks that I did through iTunes using either 128 AAC or Apple Lossless. Most of the ones I've noticed to date were imported in the last 2-3 weeks, and play fine on iTunes, just not the iPod.
I've tried restoring the iPod and deauthorizing then reauthorizing the computer. Neither works. The next step, I think, would be to rebuild my library, but I have tons of playlists I don't want to recreate (or export/import one-by-one, which is how it looks like have to do it).
I can't help but wonder if this is something related to the latest updates to iTunes, seeing as how it's a such a new phenomenon, and there seem to be several similar posts (although not exactly my situation) in discussions.
I welcome any and all suggestions!

Podcasts are completely independent of Apple and iTunes, they're not from iTunes itself. All iTunes does is list the podcast and tell iTunes where to go and find it if you ask to download it. There are other (non-iTunes) Podcast catchers which do the same thing for other MP3 players. So I think that when listing podcasts on iTunes, Apple/iTunes does not consider it's playablity - because it's a podcast and that's the way of Podcasts! Also, the podcaster has probably not produced these podcasts specifically for the iPod and so has not realised that they don't work on our iPods as you and I expect them to.
You could try sending feedback to the podcast creator, explaining that their Podcasts don't play on the iPod itself. They may +_or may not_+ do something about it.
I've had this problem with both audio and video Podcasts. There is an option to convert selections for the iPod which I have tried for the videos, (click on the top menu and *Advanced/Convert selection for iPod/iPhone*. However, this process takes forever and I gave up trying it. I simply watch them in iTunes. I cannot actually remember what I did for the audio Podcasts, but if I right-click (in Windows that is..) on an audio Podcast, I see the option to *convert selection to AAC*. I don't promise that it will work, but you could give it a try.
As for the Sheryl Crow album , if it was purchased from iTunes, I would expect it to play on the iPod without converting it. The same goes for tracks ripped using iTunes on your PC. I can't explain that, perhaps someone else can?

  • 160 gig Maxtor Harddrive how to install and use it

I just bought a new maxtor HD 160 gig with mac osx 10.4 tiger and i was wondering how do i install it(if i have to change jumpers) and what procedure to transfer off my original 30gig hd to my new 160gig hd. Thank you

Manuals and support and how to guides:
    http://www.apple.com/support/powermac/
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86790
also links to answered questions like how to clone a drive.
installing a new drive is a "frequently asked" item here so there are lots of threads.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=715397&tstart=90
SATA usually means no jumpers. Every vendor of drives have their product page, how to install, photo and such.
When a blank unformatted drive is 'discovered' Mac OS X will prompt you if you want to do something. All that does is launch a program that you then have to partition or format the drive yourself, "Disk Utility" which is in
    /Applications/Utilities - launch it now.
    http://www.amug.org/amug-web/html/amug/reviews/articles/firmtek/2eEN4/parti.jpg
Go to Help menu, and there is a Help program, you can search, and there is a PDF manual for Do It Yourself from the above G5 support page.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303645
And Apple has articles on using Disk Utility. Such as this:

  • New iPod 160 iTunes 10.4.0.80 slightly used...had been docked to BOSE portable after sync -- had to reset -- didn't work, hard disc status will not pull

Have 2 new iPod classics -- later docked to BOSE Portable. Synced. Hung. Reset for Apple symbol which sat there. Hard disc function, iTunes does not recognize. iTunes is version 10.4.0.80 Can buy a third. Probably same thing will happen. Had once managed to have ITunes find, had to completely add all new back in (there is only about 24 gig left of the 160 gigs -- so that takes a long time) -- but iTunes just won't recognize...ideas???

I finally stumbled across a fix for this problem, and in case someone else is frustrated at some point by a similar issue I'm posting what finally worked to enable me to bring iTunes up at any time (without rebooting first).
The solution was to go to the preferences to uncheck "search for shared libraries".
I'm glad the problem is fixed, but Apple developers really should include a timeout function on iTunes search for a shared libraries. At least a visual dialog to confirm that the application is in the process of searching for a shared library on the network would help provide clues as to what is causing the spinning beach ball to appear right about the time the application window should pop up.

  • 160 gig classic froze as soon as plugged in

I plugged my 160 gig iPod classic into my computer to sync it, and as soon as I plugged it in, it completely froze and remains lit up and frozen. It also will not show up in my iTunes as a plugged-in device. Please help!

I can assure you that Lenovo support is excellent. It's handled by the same original IBM division in Atlanta Georgia. They are there for you 24/7 every day. I would not hesitate to give them a call, as it's also beneficial for them to hear from you. If it's not reported, they won't be aware of it. Many things like this do not show up in the very extensive testing that Lenovo does before releasing a new model. Therefore we are helping them by reporting these issues. Please let us know the outcome of your call....
