IPod 160GB video turning off and on constantly

My 160GB video is constantly turning itself on and off. It flicks between the grey reset apple screen to normal play mode then flicks off and rests again and again. Also does the same when connected to my laptop. Shows 'connected' screen then flicks to reset page again. Tried running the battery down but as soon as it is plugged in to the computer again it constantly switches itself on and off. Any suggestions???

Hello MicPuppet,
And welcome to Apple Discussions
How about trying to force the iPod into *Disk Mode* as described by this Apple support document. If you are able to do so successfully, I would try reconnecting to iTunes to see if you can perform a restore of the iPod there.
[Putting iPod into Disk Mode|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363]
Or perhaps even try to complete reformat using the tools provided by your
Windows machine. More detailed instructions on how to do this can be found in this article.

  • My ipod touch 4g turned off and wont turn on again because it is frozen on the apple screen. please help!

    - First try resetting the iPOd. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
-Next connect to a computer and restore the iPod if theiPod appears in iTunes.
    - Next see if placing he iPod in recovery mode will allow iTunes to see the iPod so you can restore the iPod.  For recovery mode see:

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod doesn't turn off and volume doesn't work

My Ipod touch is 2 months old--all of sudden it wont' turn off and the volume doesn't respond.
I have charged it, synched it and done a restore--nothing fixes.
It sometimes will allow me to turn the volume off (once a day) but then most of the time doesn't respond
I can't click "home" and "off" at the same time b/c all that does is turn the voice recognition on.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
Try placing your iPod in Recovery Mode and restoring it to factory settings/defaults via iTunes:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808.  Otherwise, make a reservation at the Genius Bar of your local Apple Store.
    Hope this helps!

  • My ipod nano just turns off and on when i repeatedly plug in headphones and the sleep/wake button is disabled while I have my headphones plugged in

My Ipod Nano basically switched the function of turning on/off when i plug in the headphones. I found a way to beat this by plugging in my headphones an even number of times, but when I do this, the Sleep/Wake button is completely rendedered useless. As soon as the screen turns off I cannot change songs by double clicking, but I am able to change volume. The same is for trying to sleep the screen. I have tried factory resetting the ipod and using different headphones but the problem seems like it is not affected by these steps. I also tried to clean out the headphone jack and the result is the same.

Take the iPod Nano to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • IPod Classic 120G turned off and won't turn back on.

I have the iPod Classic 120G and I was listening to it and it turned off. I've tried restarting it and plugged the iPod back into the computer and it still fails to turn on. Help please?

If it's not the HOLD switch, try resetting it with the two-button combo.
