IPod 1gig bug...i think.

This isnt really a question, well i guess it is, but, when I go to rate a song on my 1 gig nano, i rate it real quick, and then press the middle button to go back to the time of the song, and, it changes screens, but, is still the rate screen. its weird, and it happens a lot. and when i let it sit there for 10 seconds or more it doesnt go back to the original screen. it stays there. i have to keep pressin the enter button. is this just mine or does this happen to everybodies?

Hey, I had the same thing with my 4 gb nano today. Actually my husband used it and somehow it got screwed up. The battery was low and I thought that had something to do with it so I compared my son's with mine and it still would not change. Than I went to menu and entered everything to on even the podcast and audiobooks and than went back and the scroll and sound, ratings, and scrubber bar went back to normal. I than went back to menu and turned off the audiobooks and podcast and other stuff I did not want and it still worked. I also turned off the screen locked. That lost my "now playing" option. I should call apple while it is under 3 months warrantee to find out whey it lost the scrubber bar and kept on the rating bar. I also clicked the center button and only that bar kept boucing back. Now since others had that problem I am going to check
with apple.

Computer AND iTunes don't recognize my iPod touch.  Comp thinks it is a camera or something.  iTunes won't bring up devices at all.  I've already uninstalled iTunes and QT and reinstalled after problem that happened when I updated iTunes - updated iTunes completely demolished my computer's ability to recognize the sound card and computer had NO sound at all.  I had to uninstall iTunes, QT, AND my sound card and reinstall them all.  Sound worked fine, but now I can't sync my iPod.  Computer recognizes that "something" is hooked up (thinks it might possibly be a camera) and I get that "open with" window.  In "my computer" it shows that there is an "iPod" connected, but it is pictured as a camera.  In iTunes my username is no longer appearing (although account info is there) and NO devices whatsoever get listed.  There is nothing wrong with my USB ports or cable.  And of course Apple won't help anyone unless you pay them to. ... I am getting beyond P/Oed!!!  You pay hundreds for a product and all you get are headaches with their stupid bug infested software and no support at all.
Can anyone out there help me clean up this unbelievable mess Apple and iTunes has created in my computer?
    Thank you.
    Evie

After three completely wasted days trying to figure all of this out I finally got it fixed - on my own - by reading dozens and dozens of rogue posts in indie forums from people that refuse to dish out money to have a company TRY and advise possible fixes on their own glitches.
(here's a novel idea - fix the glitches Apple.  Or - don't send out updates filled with bugs in the first place)
Everything (several applications) had to be uninstalled in a very specific order and then restarted , then it all had to be verified with manual deletions of leftovers, and emptying the recycle bin, then another restart, then iT had to be reinstalled again and the system restarted again, and two more update downloads. Holy!!!
I love my little iPod touch, but I honestly must say, when this kind of thing happens (and it has several times now when I try to deal with iTunes or Apple), it makes me want to flush it down the toilet.

  • I have an iPod touch and am thinking of getting an iPhone as well, will I be able to sync my iPhone with my existing iTunes library?

Hi, I have an iPod touch and am thinking of getting an iPhone to use as well, will I be able to use them both from the same computer or will there be some problems?

Yes.  There is no limit to the number of iPads, iPods, or iPhones you can sync with one computer, iTunes library, or account.  See this article for different ways to manage multiple devices.

I suspect you have the original, 1G iPod touch. Those can only go as high as iOS 3.1.3,
If y ohave a 2G those can go as high as 4.2.1

  • IPod Battery bug (software)

I opened a thread @ www.podtunes.de with the subject "Geringe Akkulaufzeit bei meinem iPod 30GB" ("Low battery lifetime of my iPod 30GB"), which is one of the biggest discussion there at moment because most of the iPod G5 (Video) users have the problem that the battery doesn´t work as long as it should do. But as I notice this isn´t a hardware problem, it seems to be a bug in the iPod Updater 2005-10-12, which caused all the trouble.
I have thought about this problem for two days and would say now that this seems to be a bug in the programs which lets th iPod interpret the battery lifetime and decides about shutting down the iPod to keep the usersetting alive.
Maybe one of you guys from apple can give us a statement for the problems with the actual iPod software or if it´s any other bug?!
    Thanks,
    Nezumi_R (Dominik B.)

The battery indicator only seems to be a 'rough guide' to the remaining charge, and has existed on all 3 generations of iPod that I have owned. I think the problem is caused by the software 'predicting' the life remaining in the battery based on the drain at that time. For instance, when iPod first switches on, the backlight is 'on' and there is scroll action while seeking the tune or video to play - this puts a heavy load on the battery, and the software 'predicts' that at the present current draw, it wont last long - as soon as things 'quiet down' the software re-calculates info based on the lower drain with backlight off and nothing happening at the interface, so gradually the 'red' indicator will go greeen, and the longer the interface is untouched, the reading will get more accurate. But as I said at the beginning, its only a rough guide anyway -
I did see on another forum, that the best way to solve the problem was to stick a piece of black insulation tape over the 'battery' display - although it wouldnt look too good on a 5G iPod
    Hope this helps.

  • Took fotos with iPod touch, now laptop thinks iPod is a camera and won't sync with iTunes

I have been loading vinyls onto iTunes using EZ Vinyl Tape converter. I have sync'd OK until recently when problems encountered with EZ. However there are some tunes on laptop to sync. After using the iPod touch as a camera I now cannot sync.  The laptop thinks the iPod is a camera and does not initiate iTunes, instead the laptop gets a totally blank screen and I cannot do anything, not even switch it off. I have scanned laptop for bugs, viruses etc using norton. I am totally stuck now.

  • IPod app bug

Hi there I just found out a really strange bug on the ipod app of the ipad.
When you're listening to a podcast and you select the album artwork to change the chapter (of that podcast), it always goes to the first podcast of the list instead of just going to where you want it to go!!
Is it just me or have you guys faced the same problem?
    Let me know!

The functionality is there and is not working properly.
    Best to report to Apple:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
Whether you prefer or not to listen to podcasts on a big or small device is not really the issue. Is it?
Right. I think he was just offering a possible explanation of why you have had no responses.

  • HT201274 How do I erase all content and settings on my ipod touch when I don't have my password or the original computer?  I can't figure this out and it is frustrating me.  I need to completely reset my ipod touch. I think it is in dfu mode now

How do I erase all the content and settings on my 8GB ipod touch without the password or the original computer?  This is very frustrating and I think I have it in the DFU mode.  I can't seem to figure out how to completely restore this ipod touch.  Please help.

Did you get a message in iTunes that said iTunes found an iPod in recovery mode? If not then you might have not gotten the iPod in recovery mode. Try using this program to get the iPod in recovery mode:

  • Problem with my ipod (4th gen i think, the one with the click wheel)

after i updated my ipod (its the old click wheel one with the black and white screen, brought in 2004) with update 3.1.1 (2006-03-23) i got some new songs that i brought from itunes and they worked fine. i left my ipod for a couple of days and it took a while to load which is usual and the apple symbol came up etc. the problem came after this having not turned it on when i do those new songs just skip and don't play. whichever way i try it, playing them in a playlist or straight from the album section or just as one song they do not play. i have rebooted my ipod and have the most recent version of itunes. the only way i can get these songs to play is by reconnecting the ipod to my computer which becomes a hassle if i have to do it every time i have left it. once i have done this they play fine until i leave it again and miss a day of not turning it on.
any help would be much appreciated but i am beginning to think that it is past all help.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem. The hotness is symptom of a hardware problem

I have an ipod touch 2nd generation. I am thinking of upgrading so should I go for the latest ipod touch or for the ipad mini?

It all depends upon your uses and preferences. The iPod had a bigger screen and is physically bigger and has an option cellular radio.

The 5 authorized COMPUTERS has NOTHING to do with ipods.
Itunes will allow up to 5 computers to be authorized to play pre-itunes+ music. When you reach the limit of 5 COMPUTERS, then you can de-authorize them all, then authorize the active ones again.
You can sync as many ipods as you like to a computer.
In the future, it is a good idea to de-authorize before re-installing your os or getting rid of a computer.

  • IPod battery problem I think?!?

When I plug my iPod in with a Firewire cable into my G4 it comes on and can play songs etc. As soon as I eject and then take the cable out of the iPod it switches off and won't come back on until I plug the Firewire cable back in.
I have tried resetting, update, restoring etc with no luck. I tried using a USB cable and all I get is the battery charging symbol on the iPod screen but the charge icon doeasn't move, it just stays with the bottom 1/3 filled.
Does this mean I need a new battery?

    Hi there,
I guess it depends on how long you've had your iPod for and how often you use it.
For example, is it more than a couple of years old, and when you recharge it, do you wait until the battery has nearly run out of juice or do you charge whenever you feel like it irrespective of how much charge the battery currently has?
I think it says somewhere that most iPod batteries are good for a thousand charges or more depending on you being a good owner and charging it up fully, then running it down fully each time...
Replacement batteries can be had in many places now, such as on the Newertech website as well as Sonnet Technologies.
On the face of it, it does sound like your battery is dead. That's just on the face of it, mind.
