IPod 30 GB absolutely REFUSES to unfreeze!

Hey all,
My iPod's frozen. I've done the usual jiggling of the hold switch and pressing the selection and play/pause buttons together, but my iPod will not restart/unfreeze. Any tips for stubborn iPods? Help, please? Thanks in advance!

Hey there,
Have you tried any of the other 5 Rs for troubleshooting. If not, you can find them below in the Apple document. If none of those work, you may have to just let it sit and wait for the battery to die, so you can hook it up and restore the iPod through iTunes. Hope this helps.

  • Help: iPod Classic 160GB refuses to update software, nor to restore

I just purchased a 160GB iPod. I charged it, uploaded the music ( with my Macbook with OsX 10.4.11), and it works fine.
But then it was supposed to update the software to 1.2. It refuses because of "unknown reasons": error 1435.
I tried to reset it and it refused.
I tried to restore ... it starts the process but then... the Macbook ejects the ipod before the reset has started...and puts up an error message for "unknown reasons".
Does anyone know how to fix this or do i have a defective iPod?
    Many thanks in advance!

    Apple exchanged it. Thank you.

  • My ipod is absolutely dead when plugged into usb connection or when trying to switch on with on/off button

Ipod is dead when plugged into usb port or when using on/off switch
    absolutely no display

Press and hold the power on button and the circle button on the front for about 10-15 seconds - If nothing try to plug in to the usb at the rear of the PC for more power and then try again.
    It will work.

  • Why does the IPOD Touch bluetooth refuse the connection to my cellphone and declare it "unsupported"?

I'm trying to transfer a picture from a Motorola Razr Cellphone via Bluetooth.  The cellphone discovers and connects to the IPOD Touch.  The IPOD touch discovers the cellphone but refuses to pair and declares the cellphon an "unsupported device".  The passkeys are equal so what is the deal?  Incompatiable versions of Bluetooth?

It isn't designed to work like that.  See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3647 for supported bluetooth profiles

  • Brand New iPod Touch, absolute failure to launch

Hi all, I was hoping someone here could help me.
I currently live and study in Japan, and thought I'd treat myself to a shiny new 32GB iPod Touch after my girlfriend and I marvelled over them for about an hour in the Nagoya apple shop. I popped into town today and picked one up.
I already have iTunes and a 3rd Generation iPod Nano 8GB, and they work fine, apart from sync problems, probably related to my Vista operating system.
When I got home, I plugged my new Touch into my freshly-booted pc... and nothing. The "hardware recognised" sound plays, and the ipod flickers on for about two seconds, displaying a connection cable and the iTunes logo, presummably telling my to connect it to iTunes.
Well, obviously I can't. The thing isn't even recognised in the "My Computer" window. The only place my pc sees it at all is in the divice manager under "Other Devices". It either has a question mark next to it, or an error saying the driver is not configured correctly. I have tried the "update driver" button, disabling and re-enabling, restarting my pc, and re-installing itunes, all to no avail.
The worrying thing is, the ipod itself seems unresponsive. All that happens when I press the button, is a few seconds of the image pressummably telling me to connect it to itunes, then it just seems to turn off again. Holding down the button doesn't do anything.
This is really worrying, as it is brand new, out of the box, and was $600 with the case.
    Can anyone shed any light?
    Thanks

Just something I forgot to add: For the few seconds that the ipod stays on, when it displays in the "Other Devices" tab in Device Managed, if I press on "Properties", I get this message:
This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.
Not really sure what this means, as reinstalling drivers doesn't seem to do anything...

  • ITunes 8.1 freezes when iPod touch is plugged in, unfreezes when pluggedout

I've just updated my iPod touch 1st gen to 2.2.1, it was working and syncing perfectly for two days. This morning, when the iPod touch was plugged into iTunes, iTunes froze when the iPod was recognized by the computer. I tried plugging the iPod touch out of the computer, and iTunes almost instantly went back to functioning correctly.
If I attempt to start iTunes with the iPod already plugged in, it starts up frozen and does not function. I have to use Task Manager to manually quit the process every time.
This is all still strange since the only thing different I did from last night is download several podcasts and update one app. I've tried deleting these podcasts and uninstalling the app, but to no avail.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Dave,
Try putting the iPod into recovery mode and restoring it in iTunes as shown here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
This would erase the contents of the iPod but you can check iTunes for a backup before restoring from recovery mode. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766 provides more information about iPhone backups.

  • Ipod mini Functions refusing to install?

I recently purchased an ipod mini for entertainment rather than my old walkman, i tried installing the Disk containing itunes which comes as part of the package and get past entering in the ipod reference number, then it starts installing, once it is completed the window automatically closes, however, when i browse through my computer files i cannot find it anywhere in sight, i have tried restarting my computer multiple times and re-installing it to no good effect, i have even gone online and tried manually downloading itunes to no effect AT ALL!!! i cant find any support online or in my instruction booklet, and i dont fancy having to pay £50 to get somebody to do it for me either! any expert advice out there?

So when you install iTunes you can't find it anywhere in order to double click and get it to open? There's no icon on your desktop that says iTunes? How about when you click the Start menu on the bottom left of your screen and search there?

  • IPod update: iTunes refuses connection

    Hi!
Recently, my iTunes (7.5) made an automatic update of my iPod nano firmware. Now, when I connect the iPod to the computer, iTunes says that a new version is required. However, I cannot update iTunes to version 7.7. Version 7.7 will only work with Windows SP2, which I cannot install. So now, I cannot really use my iPod any more.
How can I downgrade my iPod again?
    Best Regards!

The Mac versions are rock solid....
Your probably infected with "crap-ware" (like most WindoZe ppl) Do a manual registry clean in localmachine and user run key, if it looks strange, most likely it is, REM it out if your not sure. Virus/Spyware scanners can only find what they know of, there are sooo many of them your best bet is that they can catch 80% of them (the rest you need to clean)
Man, I don't miss those days

  • Ipod store connection refused

Everything worked fine until I updated to version 7. Immediately, it stopped connecting to the store. I did not change any settings on my computer and the internet connection is fine. The firewall is on but the itunes software is excepted. I don't have a pop up blocker.

  • Home Hub 3 absolutely refuses to port forward!

I'm not new to networking and know all that must be done to forward a port on a router, but the HH3 constantly tells me that any port I try to forward for any device on my network is in conflict with another device/port range/etc even though it will never let you set up a device/range to be forwarded in the first place for there to be any conflict with.
How can I get around this? Looking around it seems version A of the HH3 has this problem and I seem to have this version A.
How do I go about getting a new/working one sent?

People have been sucessful by using very short device names, and static IP adresses. Then mapping the application to the IP address of the device, and not its name.
Solutions are posted all over this forum, but a good place to start would be.

  • IWork absolutely refuses to work under Leopard

So, I'm working on an Aluminum iMac, brand new, Leopard preinstalled. Works pretty well. Next, I serialize iWork...and it noWork. It will bounce several times, then pop up a crash report with an uncaught exception every time. This happens regardless of 10.5 or 1.5.1, regardless of whether iWork has the x.0.1 patches. I have reinstalled iWork, reinstalled OS X, tried installing in a different profile (which sort of worked, but it prompted for a reinstall, then ceased working after the reinstall), combed through the User/Library and /Library folders trying to manually uninstall everything related to iWork, combed the support forums and Google, tried the Spell Catcher uninstaller, ran diagnostics, ran disk repair utilities...nothing. Nothing I do will make iWork run on this computer. I've just about had it. Apple's quality control has been slipping seriously lately as I know I'm not the only one seeing this issue. What the heck is going on here?

Spellcatcher was never installed. All migrated data came out of OS 9. The only things transferred to the fresh installation were:
    Mail settings and inbox
    Printer prefs
A few applications and desktop data, but none opened/run
    Safari bookmarks, prefs, etc
    Downloads folder
    Documents folder
Again, nothing else was run, and all three apps have the exact same crash. In the crash dump just before the exception is caught, it looks like a menu initialization is taking place. Dunno if that's part of it or if the thread has another process in it that doesn't get reported before it barfs.
One thing I will try next has to do with Appleworks. The user data has the Appleworks app in it and numerous files. When first pulled over, they're blank doc files. After the reboot, they have the Appleworks logo. I can't see how this could screw up iWork without ever running anything, but it's about the last idea I've got.

  • ITunes Refuses to Eject My iPod Classic 160GB

I purchased one of the newest iPod Classic 160GB models and while it originally connected great when I connected to iTunes, now, iTunes absolutely refuses to eject my iPod everytime I connect.
I have to eject my iPod through Windows Explorer and this happens everytime I connect it to my computer. Does anyone have a fix for this?

My computer is running  Windows 7 Pro SP1 with all updates and I do not see anything in that article other than perhaps uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes that helps.  I do not have any third party apps related to Apple.  I do have one or two third party applications that work with Microsoft Office products and they were installed long before iTunes stopped working, so I do not believe that they have anything to do with iTunes's problems.
I have verified that there are no third party apps working with iTunes. ITunes only freezes when I attempt to disconnect the ipod. It d

If I uninstall this current version of iTunes, I do not want to lose any of my playlists, including those created by Genius.  Do I have to do anything in particular to ensure that this information is preserved so that I can restore it after a reinstall?
