IPod 30 GB 'Do Not Disconnect'

The message of 'DO NOT DISCONNECT' continually shows on my iPod 30 GB even after fully updated and charged. This happened after I downloaded an update as specified when I logged into iTunes. Any ideas?
Thanks

If your iPod is enabled as a removable hard drive then it's normal to see Do Not Disconnect until you manually eject. If you set your iPod to manual update, the box "enable disk use" box is greyed out and ticked by default.
Connect your iPod and check your preferences. In iTunes go to Edit>Preferences>iPod. Under the Music tab see if your iPod set to automatically sync (automatically update songs and playlists) with iTunes and also has a tick in the box marked “enable disk use". Remove this tick and your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished updating.

  • Ipod frozen ("Do not disconnect") Restore attempt triggers error message

    The sequence of events:
    1. ITunes did not recognize my Ipod this morning (My ipod icon did not appear in itunes)
    2. Itunes froze. (Computer froze generally)
During attempts to restart computer, realized that computer failed to start if Ipod firewall cord is plugged in--so I unplugged the ipod. "Do not disconnect" in ipod window.
    3. Read "Ipod The Missing Manual" fix for this disconnect problem, but does not work. Part of the problem is that my ipod still hasn't appeared in itunes, alhtough the computuer makes a familiar "dong" sound when the cable is plugged in.
    4. Figure I will attempt "system restore" for ipod during the brief period Itunes is unfrozen (thawed) immediately after I've restarted the computer. Ipod finally appears in Itunes (which takes 10 minutes to open) It does recognize an ipod--but it doesn't have my name on it. And there's a New message, that my ipod is corrupted and I must restore it, lose songs, etc. So what. Onward.
    5. Attempt to restore also unsuccessful. A new, sick-making message: "There was a problem downloading the ipod software for the ipod. The requested resource was not found."
I've tried a new cable, tried a new port...
Ipod is one year old. What does any of this mean? Where do I go to begin finding a solution? Do I throw it out and start again? Obviously my computer is botched up, too. What a mess.

I have the same... and so many others and no one has a solution (up to now). It might has something to do with itunes 7th version. I have tried EVERYTHING (believe me: the 5 R's/ other Itunes versions / winamp / reboot/ reinstall/ restore/ update/ other port/ etc etc/ searched this forum)
So many people having this problem, though Apple has not reacted on this yet...
despite asking 180 euro's service costs if you want to resolve this by sending this item. Great

  • Why my ipodmy ipod displays do not disconnect and wont sync but can be restored?

why my ipodmy ipod displays do not disconnect and wont sync but can be restored?

If it is a problem than I have it too. Mine does the
same as long as I don't stop the device via the
little green arrow icon (USB manager) down by the
    clock.
I never really need to use the Ipod when it is hooked
into the PC because everything is done through
iTunes. I just thought it said "do not disconnect"
because it was associated with both iTunes and the PC
    as a hard disk.
If I stop the device or "eject" the iPod, it goes
from do not disconnect to the normal menu tree.
So when you take the USB cable out of the iPod, it goes back to normal?
If that's what you mean, mine does that too.
It's just that I read that if you remove the USB cable from your iPod while it says 'do not disconnect', it can wipe all your music....

  • Ipod says "do not disconnect" but is not recognized by itunes

Okay so, I've connected my ipod to my computer and it's not being recognized. On my nano's screen it says "Do not disconnect" and has the red circle no sign flashing on it. I've updated my version of itunes, restarted my ipod, and have restarted my computer multiple times.
It can't be the USB because quite obviously it's working... it has to either be with my macbook or my ipod.
    What's going on here?

I am having the same problem and I tried everything to fix it. On top of that problem, my iPod won't turn off, and will only play half of a song and then skip to the next song which is very maddening! Can anyone help?

  • 40gb Ipod says "do not disconnect" all the time... please help!

  • Please help--Ipod says DO NOT DISCONNECT and I cant stop it-

I wish there wasd someone I could talk to to walk me thru this.I was updating software, connected ipod and now the update is frozen, and I can't disconnect ipod. Help - I don't know what to do.

    Follow Michael's advice.
The iPod will always show "do not disconnect" when attached to your PC because there is an active connection there. Think of it as being on the phone, if you pull the plug it will mess up the conversation.
On the bottom right by your clock you should have a little green arrow. That shows you what USB devices are hooked into your pc. As long as you do not have the iTunes software open, you can double click that icon and it will show you a small grey window. You will a choice that says "USB Mass Storage Device". Click it once to highlight it and then click the "stop" button on the bottom of the same window. You will get a pop up balloon telling you that it is ok to remove the device (your iPod).
If you have iTunes turned on, you will need to "eject" the iPod by either choosing eject from the file menu or right clicking on your iPod icon in the playlist (left side) of the iTunes software. There is an option in there called "eject iPod" which means that you are done moving files over and that iTunes can release the Ipod and you can use it.
If you don't have iTunes open, just follow the first step. Don't plug things in during the middle of an operation as that will cause lock ups.
Also depending on if you have USB 2.0 or not, the process of moving files and updating can be much slower so try to be patient.
    Hope this helps...

  • IPod Video - Do not disconnect

Last night I added some photos to my iPod and ran the new update, and left it connected to my computer overnight to recharge. This morning I get a red circle with a red slash accross it with a message "do not didconnect", I am new with iPods and have not a clue as to what is happening. iPod with video display, 30 gb. THanks in advance for your help.

The answer could be as simple as you have your iPod enabled for disk use. If this option is switched on then the Do Not Disconnect will stay there until you manually eject your iPod.
Connect your iPod and in when it appears in the iTunes 7 source list click on it to see the preferences pane. In the "Summary" tab see if there is a tick in the box “enable disk use". Then under the Music tab see if your iPod set to automatically sync all songs and playlists. In Summary remove the tick from "enable disk use" and your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished updating.
If you have your iPod set to manual update, the "enable disk use " box will be greyed out and ticked by default, in that case check this link: Safely Disconnect iPod

  • New iPod Nano - Do Not Disconnect

I have an iPod and a new iPod Nano connected to my PC. The iPod message on iTunes is "Update Complete, OK to Disconnect". The iPod Nano message on iTunes is "Update Complete" and the screen on the Nano still says Do Not Disconnect. Is this normal? Do I need to eject the Nano each time?

    hi Mi Ja!
The iPod message on iTunes is "Update Complete, OK to Disconnect". The iPod Nano message on iTunes is "Update Complete" and the screen on the Nano still says Do Not Disconnect. Is this normal? Do I need to eject the Nano each time?
i had this happening to me for a month with attractive beast ("Update complete, OK to disconnect") and mauve ("Update Complete" etc), before i worked out what was going on.
next time you have the nano plugged in, head into your itunes "ipod" preference tab, and check to see if you have "Enable disk use" checked. if you do, uncheck it and click okay. after a moment or two, the nano should be behaving like the ipod.
(this will also happen if you have the nano in manual mode. if you switch back to automatic synching, on my girls "enable disk use" is left selected ... you need to uncheck that "enable disk use" box as well.)
hope this is all that is happening to you ... keep us posted.
    love, b

  • IPod flashing "Do Not Disconnect"

My 30GB ipod has been flashing "Do Not Disconnect", with a red crossed-out circle. I placed it in my dock at lunch today to recharge it, and I just retunred home to see it flashing. Itunes says the sync is complete and all software is up to date. I recharged my brother's ipod last night, and everything was normal. Can anyone please help me?
    Thanks!
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
The "Do Not Disconnect" screen will continue to stay displayed on your iPod, simply because you have Disk Use enabled (when automatically syncing iPod with iTunes).
If you are automatically syncing songs to your iPod, then disable disk use.
    For more info, see this:
    Enabling Disk Use for iPod

  • Unplugged Ipod during "do not disconnect", Itunes freezes now at plug in

So, I made a mistake. I unplugged my ipod, when it said "do not disconnect".
Now, when I plug it in to my laptop, Itunes freezes up, and doesn't sync.
That means I can't restore the factory settings.
Plus, everytime I plug it in now, it says "do not disconnect."
What should I do? Should I reformat the Ipod drive? (it's an Ipod Photo)
    Any help appreciated.

I may have the same problem but I don't think I removed it too soon. The ipod says there are no songs, books, etc... but I can see where the space is used up. I cannot get it to reset to factory settings and itunes freezes up when I plug it in. I tried the 5 R's as best I could. I've talked to tech. Windows recognizes it in the drive and in fact I can go through windows and look at the drive and see that there are files on it. I have 3 other ipods and an iphone -all the others are ok except this one which was the last one I synced before this happened. There has got to be an easy answer to this. Anybody??

  • Ipod always 'do not disconnect'

on itunes it will say that it's ok to disconnect. but the ipod always says do not disconnect. do i get it to change

Your iPod is probably enabled for disk use. If this option is switched on then the Do Not Disconnect will stay there until you manually eject your iPod.
Connect your iPod and when it appears in iTunes click on it's icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Have a look in the Summary tab and see if there is a tick beside “enable disk use". If your iPod is set to automatically sync songs and playlists remove this tick and click Apply, your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished updating.
Also when you have your iPod set to manual update, the box will be greyed out and ticked by default. Manual update requires that the iPod is always enabled for disk use, in that case check this link: Safely Disconnect iPod
If the iPod is showing the do not disconnect screen when it's actually unplugged from the computer try resetting it. Toggle the hold switch off and on a few times then hold down the MENU and SELECT (centre) buttons for five or ten seconds until you see the Apple logo appear then the menu button to go to the normal display: How to reset an iPod

  • IPOD locked "do not disconnect"

My IPOD was prematurely disconnected and is now totally locked up.
After I replugged, screen came up with the "do not disconnect" icon but is still totally frozen. THe computer does not recognize that the IPOD is plugged back in.
How to I reboot the IPOD, even if it mean reloading everything?
    Thanks

First, try a reset by holding down the Menu button and Center button on the click wheel simultaneously for a few seconds until the Apple logo appears.
If that does not work, and you want to do a factory restore, here is how to do it.
