IPod 30g video charger and dock connector question

It's time to get a new iPod, I have an ipod mini for about 2 years. I know the new one does not come with power adapter, can I use the ipod mini power adapter to charge the new ipod? I also want to know if the dock connector is the same because I have ipod adapter installed on my car. Thanks Alex

yes they do. supllied with the ipod video is a dock adapter so i think all you have to do is to take out the mini dock adapter and insert the one provided with ipod video.

My 30-pin dock is connected to my lightning to 30-pin connector which is connected to my iPod touch 5g. But my iPod will only charge, and will not play music through my dock, only through the iPod's internal speaker. Help please!

Have you tried resetting both the iPod and dock? To reset the iPod, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
To reset the dock, unplug it and plug it back in.

  • IPod 30g video photo storage question

Can I use iPod 30g video as my iPhoto backup? My question is, does it store original photo full size? Do I have to resize my photos before I send them to my iPod? I only need less than 10g for my music, the rest I plan to use for photos. Thanks Alex

You are correct, the iPod does NOT come with a charger, most of us here are disappointed with that, that would be an extra $30 out of your pocket to get. Yes USB is the cable it uses. You can charge it through the computer or (if you have the adapter) through an outlet, via usb. As far as the iPod mini connection, I think it may be different, but I could be wrong, never owned one I'll look into that.
Actually I don't want to say anything, I really don't know, lol, and you are welcome Alex good luck with your iPod and enjoy .

  • My 3GS keeps switching between iPhone speaker and Dock connector and I don't know how to keep it on iPhone speaker

My 3GS keeps switching between iPhone speaker and Dock connector and I don't know how to keep it on iPhone speaker so I can listen to my music and games.  Is it hardware or software problem?

I was told by a friend that sometimes when you use a 3rd party charger that the connectors are not the same size and so it can affect the sensors in the phone and make it seem like it is in a docking station and so changes the output for dock speakers.  With that said, I didn't take my pohone in to be serviced at the appple store because it was a 3GS and over 2 years old and so not covered by any service plan.  Since then my phone is back to normal and I can use my headphones and listen with the speakers on the phone.  I stoped using the suspected cheap 3rd party charger and maybe that's what did it, but not sure if it was or wasn't the cause of my problem.  I'm glad that my phone is better I was kinda holding out for the Iphone 5 when i comes out later and hope my phone lasted until then.

  • Ipod mini ac charger and ipod nano

Nice and easy but i could not find the same exact question elsewhere.
I have an ipod mini that has battery problems, i have just received a new nano and noticed that it does not have an AC charger. Now, the question is, will my ipod mini ac charger and the firewire cable charge my new nano or do i have to go and spend 20 quid on another ac charger, and i'll be mighty hacked off if i do.

Cheers mate. Yeah i figured on the usb sync thing just wanted to make sure i wasnt gonna blow up my nano with the Mini ac charger.
    Thanks again,
    Ian.

  • HT1476 My iPod isn't charging and it isn't the USB cord !

MY iPod isn't charging and I know it's not the charger cause I just bought a new one what do I do

    Hi Kooool-aidd,
You might want to check to see if the outlet is wired correctly, or maybe try a different outlet. Also, are you sure that your charger is supported by the iPod that you're trying to charge?
See this article and this article by Apple.
    Hope this helps,
    O.C.
P.S. What kind of error message are you getting on your iPod?

    Hello lowe-m1,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

    The headphones don't work
If your iPod's headphones don't work or have static or garbled audio, try connecting them to any other 3.5 mm stereo headphone jack, like the one on your computer. If the issue with the headphones persists, replace them. For an iPod under warranty, you can order a replacement online. Otherwise, check out the cool headphones at theApple Online Store. If the issue appears to be with the iPod, try resetting it. If that doesn't work, then restore iPod with the latest iPod software using iTunes 7 or later.
    Have a nice day,

  • IPod showing Apple and dock connector icon

I updated both iTunes and my iPod software this evening. The iPod had been working prior to this update and I had just sync-ed it with iTunes before this fiasco. After the software updates, the iPod will not connect via the USB connection on my Windows (XP, SP2) showing a message that the USB device is not recognized. When I try to turn the iPod on, it displays the Apple logo and then shows a picture of the dock connector and an arrow. I've tried resetting the iPod, restarting the laptop, reinstalling the iTunes and iPod software updates, reinstalling the USB device drivers, and singing the national anthem, but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?

Thanks! You were correct - as soon as I plugged it directly into a power source (not through the laptop), it reset its firmware and I was able to restart it. Odd, but some songs are now missing from it that had previously been loaded.
    Thank you for the help.

  • Ipod nano 2nd gen and dock/alarm clock

i have read through alot of the posts and have not seen anything similar to my question.
i got my daughter an ipod nano for xmas.
we really dont leave the computer on alot and she was wanting a docking station/speaker setup. i found one that charges it/ has speakers and is also an alarm clock.
she likes the idea of having the alarm clock with it.
this is the model she got: curtis iMode ip210 link to where it was bought http://hhgregg.com/ProductDetail.asp?SID=0B568914D18A4CBEB2E80A95E8C46043&Produc tID=17180
we have not hooked it up yet because of a small problem maybe. (hooked up to power that is)
it came with a bunch of different adapters for the different ipod versions. well the nano one is incorrect. i guess due to ours being a 2nd gen version.
the ipod goes right on the dock fine with out it.
the little plastic adapter i got with the ipod kinda works in the slot of the radio but would need a little modification to snap in. the difference is the outside shape and would just needed some sanding. i have called the support number for the radio and all i could get from the was its not compatable. and i am not too sure why.
from what i have found out is all the ipod dock connectors are the same and there is no difference. not sure about this just what i have noticed.
i tried to call my local apple store and ask them but that guy started talking about firewire and problems. i told him how it docked and what it was and he still insisted on talking about firewire and those problems. i hung up as it didnt sound like he knew anything.
so now would i be ok in useing the adapter i got with the ipod and makeing some slight mods(sanding outside edge) to it. or is the something totally different between the 1st gen and 2nd gen that would mess up the ipod if put in this unit.
the reason i want this unit as it will replace her current alarm clock and she has a loft bed and its the only unit that we have seen that will fit and is in our price range.
    thank you for your help
    dawg
ipod nano 2nd gen   Windows XP

The dock adaptor that came with the iPod is meant to fit Apple's universal dock and not a 3rd party accessory.
The reason you are having issues is because although the dock connectors on iPods are all the same (the pins are in the same place), the connector on the second gen nano is in a slightly different place than on the first. If you look at it from the bottom with the iPod face up, it's slightly more to the left. This, and the fact that it has a metal case with rounded edges, has made the new nano incompatible with almost all these type of accessories.
It's been mentioned here several times, and a few people have been able to get the manufacturer of the dock to supply them with an adaptor.

  • Nano 4G dock connector question

I've searched the forums for an answer to this, and come up with some relevant info, but just wanted to post my specific question to make sure I don't screw something up (hopefully) so I apologize in advance for any redundancy...I have a 3G nano that was given to me by a friend which recently gave up the ghost...when I recieved it, I got the usb cable to attach to my computer, and an apple ac wall charger...I just purchased a nano 4G and was wondering if the wall charger is compatible with it, which would be much more convenient than hooking it to my computer...I have read in the forums that the dock connectors on the two units are the same, but wanted to make sure this would work before I tried plugging it in...the old cords have places to push on the sides of the dock connector ends to release the "hooks" while the cord I got with my 4G does not, which makes me nervous...again, I apologize for any redundancy, but certainly don't want to screw up my new purchase.
    Thanks

I've tried both the Nano 4GB and the Video 30GB and noticed the exact same thing. In fact, on the 30GB I thought the connection was too loose. The Nano is definitely a snug fit though.

  • 3rd Gen iPod won't charge with USB connector - Is that normal?

I have the above iPod, and I noticed that when I tried to plug it in to charge it with a newer USB connector it will not charge. It will however, let me update my iTunes music. Is this normal for an older iPod?

I believe that is correct. That iPod was often called the iPod with 'dock connector', and as this chart shows, won't charge via USB.

  • HT201263 My iPod will not charge and I can't restore it. HELP

I just recently bought my iPod Touch 5th Generation and I've been charging it through my MacBook.  However, it's recently stopped charging and a pop-up often comes up saying it was "draining too much power" from my laptop so the ports were turned off.  I've also tried to charge it through my desktop computer and the computer doesn't even recognize it.  My iPod doesn't show up in my iTunes when it's plugged in and the battery is completly drained.  I don't have any idea how it fix this, any advice would be much appreciated.

    Not Charge
    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Why is my iPod touch 4G charging and syncing more than just once even though I'm not unplugging the USB?

Yesterday, I connected my iPod touch to my PC with the USB cable charger for my iPod touch 4th Generation. When I connect it, it will sync and back-up my iPod. Then it would say something like this "Sync Complete OK to disconnect." I didn't disconnect the USB or ANYTHING. After like 3 or 5 minutes, it would just sync and back-up my iPod again.. Then it would keep on doing that and after 4 or 5 times, it would finally stop. But, while I'm using my iPod and it's still charging through my PC, it keeps on making that noise when you connect your iPod to your PC/MAC to charge and when you disconnect your USB charger from your PC/MAC. It just makes that noise constantly.. Then, it will stop after a couple of minutes. This is really frustrating me. If someone could help, I would be glad and it will brighten my day. THANKS.

I suspect that you have a completely dead battery.
i got this ipod about a year ago
If you mean 11 months, a battery replacement is under warranty but $30 shipping and handling. If you mean 13 months, a battery replacement is $59 + $7 shipping.
