Ipod 32GB 2nd Gen Wifi issues causing bigger problems?

Hi I got my Ipod replaced with a refurbished one this past summer because the headphone jack stopped working. The refurbished ipod's internet connections seemed slower than my original but I thought nothing of it because I had moved to a new place and didn't know how fast the internet was. The problem kept getting worse and now for at least the past 3 months I haven't been able to download any apps from the app store on the Ipod. I have tried all the restore and reset functions through Itunes and I think this is a hardware issue. Is there anything I can do? I'm pretty dissappointed because the wifi on my original ipod touch worked great and now if i would have had to choose between working wifi and a working headphone jack, I never would have exchanged for a refurbished one.
Once again I am asking what I can do and if I can get this fixed?

If your plan is still active, go back in and have it rerapid exchanged for a different refurbished one.

  • Ipod Touch 2nd gen. Backlight and App Problem

I bought an iPod touch 2nd gen. from a friend and it worked completely fine. But today, my iPod's backlight just randomly shut off. I can see the apps and everything works perfectly fine, the screen is just very dim. The iPod is jailbroken. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?? PLEASE HELP!
Also, another problem I am having is with apps. Some apps that I have had previously installed on my iPod and then deleted will not reinstall along with new apps I wish to install. I have tried installing them from iTunes on my computer, but that doesn't help either. If anyone has any answers to any of these problems, please help me.
    THANK YOU ((:
I do not know what operating system the iPod currently running on.

Exact same problem. I bought my ipod touch 2nd gen last december.I have always kept it in a plastic case for protection. Then the other day the button wasnt responding very well, I thought it was because the case wasnt fitting correctly. So today the button stopped working completely. My local retail store elcorteingles¿ i live in spain? are useless, theyll tell me to call apple, but because my 90 fredays are up i have to pay probally which is stupid considering my ipod is still under warranty. I also have never dropped my ipod ¿it cost allot of money so obviously ive been looking after it)
So I gues the best option is take it to your local retail store (if their usefull) or in my case ill have to send it away for maintanance.

  • IPod Touch 2nd gen 4.2 update volume problems

I just updated my 2nd gen ipod touch and the volume no longer works. The volume buttons dont work, when I play music or a video theres no volume bar underneath the play/pause control. The volume will only work when I have headphones plugged into the ipod but when I unplug the headphones the volume bar disappears. Any solutions???

I have 4.2 also. I was having sort of the same problem. My problem was the volume bar appeared but in some apps it was useless. Visit settings sounds you should see the volume slider. Under that it will say change with buttons. Make sure it says on. Hope this helps.

  • IPod Touch 1st Gen - Wifi issue

I have been using the Wifi on the Touch perfectly within my home network, but just recently it now doesnt obtain an IP address from my router.
I have removed the connection, 'Reset Network Settings', disabled and enabled Wifi, tried joining my SSID (which it does do) but nothing, it comes out with a 169.254.x.x address. Wireless appears to be working as it can see neighbours SSID.
I changed the name of the wireless SIDD, Touch found it, joined to it, no address. I have checked the DHCP range and there are plenty of addresses.
Any other ideas to try? I haven't done a full system restore yet, hoping to resolve it without having to try that.

    Hello several suggestions below
    1. Ensure the iPod Touch has latest available update if it does not already
    http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/softwareupdate.html
    2. Ensure your router has the most up to date Software/Firmware installed. If you know how to obtain this simply visit router manufactures website for more info. Otherwise contact router manufacture for assistance.
    3. Make sure router is broadcasting in Mixed Mode or at least 802.11 B/G Mode or G mode only if you can. And keep WiFi security off for now. If it connects with valid IP address proceed below for WiFi security options
    4. WiFi Security Options
WEP 128 bit 13 character passcode made of numbers or letters or combo of both but needs to be 13 total no more or no less.
WPA/WPA2 Personal - 8 character passcode or longer.
*If you find it connects with password and still works with valid IP address you are ok to go from there.
    5. Check Mac address filtering. If you have it turned on this could be a small possibility why it is not sending out proper info. So either add your WiFi address into the router area for Mac addresses or turn off Mac address filtering on the router.
-iPhone Wireless Address can be found by going to Settings - General - About
    6. Restore iPod Touch as new iPod Touch. Please ensure all data is properly backed up to your computer before you sync data back to iPod Touch.

  • Ipod touch 2nd gen email issue

sometimes when i delete a whole bunch of emails and select them (i get allot of spam) and press delete all they'll come back and i have to repeat the process or just delete them individually. does any one else have this issue or know how to fix it? if so I'd greatly appreciate your help.

I would recommend removing the e-mail account of your iPod touch, and try to add it again.

  • Ipod Touch 2nd Gen Volume Issues

Alright, I JUST updated my ipod touch last night to the newest version update. Since that update my volume shows up on the screen as muted but the display will not go away. I go into settings to the volume settings and it disappears on that screen, but when I move the slider to the right it automatically goes back down again. I have tried resetting, and restoring as well as deleting some applications and none have worked. I have figured out that my speaker does work, and that plugging the ipod into the computer, as well as headphones does not fix the problem. I have also figured out by going to the youtube application that I can listen to music as long as I hold the volume button to the right, but the moment I let go it automatically goes down.
Now here is the kicker, a while back my Ipod fell into a cup of water, I pulled it out and riced it for a day. The sleep and volume buttons on the top and side of the ipod no longer work. Now prior to this update EVERYTHING worked fine with the exception of those buttons. I know a lot of people suggest holding down the sleep button, but that is not an option for me. So what suggestions do you all have?
    Version: 4.2.1 (8C148)
Please help me super super annoying. Is there a way to go back to the old version?

Yes it pould be caused by the sweat, especially if you are using the headphones with remote. SInce the remote can control volume.Sweat can mimic pressing the volume control. Even if you are not using the remote headphones, sweat could get in the headphone jack and activate the volume control.
Try the standard fixes to rule out a hardware problem:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • Ipod Touch 32Gb 2nd Gen Ranomly Crashes?!? HELP!!!

Sorry for a double post, but it was in the wrong section.
Well I recently bought at 32Gb 2nd Gen Ipod Touch about three weeks ago, and it's amazing. It's pretty much everything I expected it to be. Well... there's only one problem I have with it. I could be listening to music, or watching a movie, or just browsing some pages on safari and then it would just randomly turn off. I mean, I can't be because of some external damage, can it? I haven't dropped it. I updated it to the 2.2 firmware, and I even restored it about three times now, but nothing has changed with it. It just keeps randomly restarting. When I restored it I didn't even add music, I had like three applications, Bubble Wrap Pro, Bubble Wrap, and Field Runners, then I went to browse a page on safari and it just randomly restarted... I thought that restore was pointless if it was just going to do that crap all over again... I use to think it was the album art, because I got that off the album art off google. Do they have to be a certain type of picture like .png or .jpeg? Well I deleted them all off and it still messes up? Just randomly restarts whenever I'm doing something. What's the problem with my Ipod!?? Do I have a corrupt file like a song, application or movie? Also whenever I connect it to my computer it says like "MD Crash Report," what is that? Does that have any affect to what's happening to my Ipod? I have a three-year warranty at Best Buy. I took it back and they were little help. They told me that I probably had a corrupt file. I think I do, but how can I find it? I have over 2,000 songs, so I have no time to look for one song that is corrupt, you know! And no I don't hold the sleep and home button... I know that's how to restart it. So can anyone help? Any ideas on how to fix it and what causes it to restart?
I've done a little research but not a lot of people have the same problem. Well thank you for reading!

If you've reset it 3 times and it still hasn't worked then it seems to me (although I'm probably wrong) like a hardware issue. After all, I doubt a corrupt song file could do that and if you only have 3 applications on it (all of which you have downloaded through the iStore right?) then I highly doubt it to be software related.
I'd take it back to the shop and ask for it to be repaired or better yet a new unit. Don't listen to their rubbish, you've paid for a 3 year guarantee so make sure you get what you want!
I think a corrupt song can mess it up a little though, right. But I just don't know how to find the corrupt song or application. Or maybe it isn't that? I really don't know. Can someone tell me for sure what the problem is? And yes, I get all my applications from the App Store. It's not jailborken either, and there isn't even a jailbreak for the 2nd Gen Ipod Touch...
So how am I suppose to prove to the "Geek Squad" that my Ipod is broken if it randomly chooses to turn off? I can't sit there for fifteen minutes waiting for it to randomly restart so that they can see it, and tell me that it's a hardware issue. Do I just ask them for a new unit? Can I just go to any Apple store, and they can help me? Or is it just not likely that they would help me beacuse I bought it from Best Buy. Anyone know?

  • Why is my wifi on my ipod touch 2nd gen not working?

Can someone help with the wifi on my ipod touch 2nd Gen? Yesterday it suddenly stopped connecting to anything wifi. No settings were changed. The only thing I did was go to itunes for the first time in well, forever. I always use it on my computer to go in itunes, not my ipod. Anyway, I'm pretty sure I could still get on Safari after that but I don't really remember. At some point in the evening it stopped connecting. I can't get on Safari, my mail won't refresh, it would connect to the app store, nothing. Sometimes a message does pop up saying there was a problem connecting to the server. I can't figure this out, internet on my computer is running perfectly fine. My ipod wifi is on, airplane mode off. When I go into my settings it shows my network and that it's connected. I haven't connected it or synced it to the new itunes. I actually haven't downloaded the update yet. Ipod is up to date though without the new sync. Can anyone help me out? I'm very confused.
    Thanks

  • Windows 7 64 bit, iPod touch 2nd gen, iTunes sync issue

I have Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium and am frustrated to death. I have spent days wiping out my iPod trying something different an only to start all over again. I am not a n00b to computers and only ask because I only find a trail of tears and none of the problems I see look specifically like mine.
I have been following this issue since Feb 2010 and notice reports that are sort of similar back to Jan of 2009. Anyway here is my problem.
iTunes will recognize my iPod touch 2nd Gen. iTunes will "sync" apps and data. iTunes will not sync movies, music, books, or software upgrades.
I get an error code that changes depending on what I am trying and seems to lead to no where. I can't honestly remember the code anymore.
I can sync with this same computer using Windows XP 32 Pro win a VirtualBox VM, but can not do it directly from within Windows 7. So hardware and drivers are not the issue. I reinstalled iTunes with a Vista 64 bit install that I found online which appeared to work temporarily then ultimately I ended up back where I started.
I actually switched to Windows (from linux) because I got tired of the VirtualBox method. Quite ironic that I am still facing the same issue.
On top of the not being able to sync properly from Windows 7 64 bit. Everytime I try I have to put in hours of work to get my Ipod back to working order as iTunes only allows you to sync with one computer and is slower that snail poop in January. In order to try again I have to be willing to commit to the problems that I am most likely to encounter.
    So my questions are
    1. Does anyone have a clue why Apple has not fixed this issue? or is there a solution I don't know about?
    2. Is there an easier way to attempt a fix that does not require me to re organize my 70+ apps on my iPod?
P.S. I do not have an intel based chipset as that seems to have been an issue for others. I have
    ASUS M2V VIA K8T890 AM2 Mother Board
    CPU AMD|A64 X2 4600+
    VGA EVGA GF 7300GT
Have tried direct to MB USB and through powered Hub

Are you sure that you downloaded the 64 bit version and not the 32 bit version?  I would delete the download and try again.  You also might want to look at the iTunes forum since youu have an iTunes problem and not an iPod problem.

  • IPod Touch 32gb 2nd gen can't sync

I just got my new PC running W7 on a 64bit system. So heres my problem:
I tried to sync it with my iPod touch 32gb 2nd gen, but then I got that "Error 0xE8000065". So I put it in DFU mode and just synced. Itunes got my touch, loaded the 3.1.2 firmware and tried to install it. At first it worked, but then I got that "Error 0xE8000065" again.
I'm not using an nVidia ECHI USB chipset and/or a p55-based motherboard, so I couldn't find an answer. I hop you can help my soon, thanks in advance . And please don't mind misspelling, I'm from Germany :P.

  • When i connect my ipod nano 2nd gen, it charges but does not appear in windows or itunes.  I tried the reset but it didn't work.  how can i fix this?

I bough a 4g Ipod nano 2nd gen for my cousins birthday.  When i plug it into my computer it charges but does not show up in windows or itunes.  I tried reseting it, reinstalling itunes, everything the site said but it didn't help. I am trying to sync songs to it for my cousin, but it won't work with it not connecting.  Could the wire have something to do with it or is there a bigger problem here?

  • Email access on Ipod Touch 2nd gen 8G

I have an iPod Touch 2nd gen 8G. I've set up my gmail and hotmail accounts on it, both of which work fine at home (unsecured wireless). However, I couldn't get either one of them work in my office (secured wireless). I could, however, manage to get access to internet in my office. Is it possible that firewall setting on company's server has caused this? If yes, is there any way to get around?

I have the same issue, but w .mac acct. I want to be able to seemlessly transition from home to work and be able to send & recieve email on ipod touch.
Work has firewall beyond wifi router. Is this the issue? If so, what info do I need from IT guy to input to make it work?

  • IPod touch 2nd gen will not open in iTunes. Ideas?

I upgrading the latest version of iTunes and I went to sync my iPod touch 2nd gen to get my latest podcasts and it would not sync or even recognize in iTunes. My PC recognizes the drive. But iTunes is a no go. I suspected it was just the latest version of iTunes so I downgraded back to the previous version and got the same results. I've switched USB ports, cables and have restarted numerous times. I even uninstalled the device from the device manager but nothing is working. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • IPod Shuffle 2nd gen and Mac problem/troubleshooting guide

Ok, warning this is going to be a little long...
The problem: Brand spanking new out of the box ipod shuffle 2nd gen won't play songs after ipod assistant setup. Flashing green/orange lights. Also will not update or restore (greyed out). Shows up as formatted for Windows. Software and Serial show up as "n/a".
    System specs: Powerbook G4 17inch 1ghz, 1gb RAM, 10.4.9 running iTunes 7.1.1
Attempted solutions that have NOT worked:
    1) mac retail store visit to genius bar. it restored on mactel machine. worked and played songs. unfortunately resyncing to my library caused ipod to return to problems above immediately.
    2) another mac retail store visit to genius bar, this time with laptop to show them the problem. they told me it was my machine not the shuffle. i explained i am a mac sys admin and that is ridiculous...my machine though a few years old is completely up to date. we then deleted all receipts out of the Library dealing with iTunes and reinstalled iTunes via software update. same problem immediately after the setup assistant. no software version and no choice to update or restore ipod. downloaded the ipod reset utility for mac for 2nd gen shuffle and error message shows "the selected ipod is not supported by this utility". also shuffle icon shows up as generic white ipod. mac genius stumped so they swap out my brand new shuffle for another brand new shuffle.
    3) 2nd shuffle in a week and same problems occur. will not update in iTunes. will not restore in iTunes. will not restore in ipod reset utility. icon shows generic white ipod. i can copy music to it but it will not play, lights flash green and orange.
    4) tried to use disk utility to reformat. erase using MS-DOS, but it says FAT16 instead of FAT32. same problems as above.
*weird that I can't reformat to FAT32 when selecting the MS-DOS format. I only see FAT16 as a choice. Disk utility should do FAT32 but I can't seem to get it to work on shuffle and i don't have a spare hard drive to test it on. Anyone have any experience reformatting ipods via Disk Utility to windows format? Please share...
At this point I have access to a mactel book and will attempt to fix it on the newer machine. I will be very upset if it works because there is nothing saying that you need new hardware to use the new shuffle. i also get the usb 1.1 error message but again there is nothing saying you need usb 2.0 for shuffle use.
if anyone has tried anything different with good results please respond! from my experience this seems to be an issue specifically between older mac ppc machines and the new windows drivers installed on the shuffle. i use windows drives all the time with my mac and there are no problems. however a brand new ipod shuffle 2nd gen out of the box does not seem to like my older machine...even after two reinstalls of itunes! even the reset utility is not working as described....
any help with this is much appreciated!!!
    Powerbook G4, 1ghz, 1gb RAM, usb 1.1, 17inch Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Ok here it is, my final post on thoughts on this issue...
Unfortunately, my guess was correct, there does seem to be a hardware issue related to iTunes 7.1.1 and whether it is on a mactel machine or an older ppc machine.
I can confirm this because the ipod settings screen on my older PPC powerbook is TOTALLY different than the screen I saw on the newer mactel macbooks, even though the software version says its EXACTLY THE SAME! (iTunes 7.1.1)
On a mactel macbook, I see the ipod shuffle settings such as "Autofill" etc with the correct icon and software version and serial number.
On my PPC powerbook, I see a generic white ipod icon (even though the finder shows the correct icon of my 2nd gen shuffle) and the settings tab for the ipod is completely different....the update and restore continued to be grayed out, there is no software version or serial number available as well. This is probably why I am not able to register my ipod shuffle from my machine.
I did not erase and resync the ipod shuffle to my PPC machine to see if that would allow it to continue working. So far so good. After unmounting, it still plays songs. However, I checked the "manage songs manually" option and added just one more song to the shuffle. I tried to then play that song but it would not play even though it was copied onto the shuffle...I could play it from the ipod via iTunes but not when I was just listening to the shuffle. I confirmed this with the application "PodWorks", the song I copied from my library does NOT show up in the list of songs on my ipod shuffle...however it DOES show up and play in iTunes.
So I feel pretty stuck right now...
I can have a working ipod shuffle but NOT from my ipod library. It seems I can only listen to songs off my friends newer machines because for whatever reason, the ipod shuffle DOES NOT WORK with a PPC Powerbook 17inch, 1ghz, 1gb RAM, 10.4.9 running the current latest version of iTunes 7.1.1.
***** to be me. Anyone else come to same conclusion?
If this is real then other users with older macs should not waste their money on the 2nd generation ipod shuffle. Please respond if you have any suggestions or thoughts on this matter.

  • IPod Shuffle 2nd Gen suddenly freezes PC and I've tried everything, Help!

In the past few days, my iPod Shuffle 2nd generation suddenly started to freeze my computer moments after it syncs new music onto it or is plugged in for awhile. I've tried everything to find out why it's begun doing this. Here's what I've tried:
    - I recently updated to iTunes 9 around the time it began freezing, and thought maybe that was the problem. I completely uninstalled it and installed an older version. Didn't work.
    - I reformatted and reset my iPod to factory settings. Didn't work.
    - I've done many complete virus scans on my PC. It didn't find anything.
    - I've synced the iPod with another PC to see if it would freeze it. It didn't and works fine elsewhere, leading me to believe there's some software issue going on.
I've checked many forums and read many stories about similar issues but nobody has a concrete answer. I don't have a free Customer Service call left with Apple. Any body have any ideas?
    My computer stats:
    - Windows Vista
    - Plenty of free space
    - HP Pavillion notebook
    - iPod Shuffle 2nd gen
    - Currently using iTunes v. 8.2

Still no solution here, even with the help from Apple's tech support team. The first person I spoke with was the most helpful in knowing about this issue. He guided me on how to cleanly uninstall iTunes (all 6 components) and then reinstall. He said the Apple Mobile Device Support Assistant has been causing issues when updating and sure enough, I looked at the date when I updated to the latest iTunes, it was the exact date when my computer began having the freezing issue. Unfortunately, this didn't work. I completely uninstalled the iTunes again, and tried installing an older version. Didn't work.
I called Apple tech again today, and the person felt there was a conflict issue with other programs, so he sent me a guide on how to use msconfig to figure out which program could be doing that. Again, that option didn't work and iTunes froze again.
I really, really, really agree with the first Apple tech support person I spoke with that iTunes' latest version is the issue. It's no coincidence that the problem began right after the update occurred, but now I'm left with two iPod devices rendered completely useless since whatever was installed onto my PC in the latest iTunes has glitched up the system.
