Ipod 3g stuck in perpetual restore mode.

While updating my ipod 3g - as prompted to do by Apple - my ipod became stuck in perpetual restore mode. I dont care about losing data but it wont restore. I get a message that I need to restore and then click ok adn get a message to restore and update. After 29 minutes the updated software is downloaded but the ipod does not restore it just goes through the same motions over and over. (Like a twilight Zone Episode) - Now I would say that Apple broke my ipod with their update, shouldnt apple fix it?? Do they? - I see many fixes on the net that require some stuff to be downloaded on my computer but dont feel comfortable doing that.

Maybe:
Restore loop (being prompted to restore again after a restore successfully completes)
Troubleshoot your USB connection. If the issue persists, out-of-date or incorrectly configured third-party security software may be causing this issue. Please follow Troubleshooting security software issues. .
Next try placing in DFU mode and then restoring.

Then try restoring on another computer.
Last, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

     I have this ipod touch 1st gen I do not know what version it is running. I tried to restore it while i was away from my house. Now it is stuck with the apple logo and the spinny wheel thing on it. I havent been able to bring it back. Ive tried holding the Home button and the Lock button for 10 seconds but it goes right back to the restore screen. Plus it won't connect to itunes now so i cant restore it with the computer. Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like your device is in recovery mode. I understand you would like to back it up before updating to iOS 8.1 but cannot because you are in recovery mode. I would first suggest restarting your device to exit recovery mode.
If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If you put your device into recovery mode by mistake, restart it. Or you can wait 15 minutes and your device will exit recovery mode by itself.

What do you mean? You made need to force the iPod into recovery mode and try and restore it again via iTunes using the instructions in this Apple support document.

I am at point no 4 of the restore mode process but when I try to connect to iTunes it is saying it cannot connect to the iPod touch because it is protected with a passcode and that I have to take the passcode off first, but I can't access it!

1st Gen iPod Touch stuck, won't restore!

I have an old iPod touch, 1st generation. I plugged it into my computer to restore it to original settings. My computer recognizes it, but says it has detected an iPod that is stuck in recovery mode. So the option is to restore the iPod. When I click that, it begins to go through the "Extracting software" and then "Preparing iPod to restore"...and then, it pops up with an error message that says "The iPod could not be restored. An unkown error has occured (1). I have tried this so many times. I've tried restarting, repowering the iPod on and off. Doing a hard reboot, holding down the menu botton upon start up to get it off the "connect to iTunes" screen. Nothing works. My computer system is current, Maverick. And my iTunes is up to date as well. Can anyone help?? THANK YOU!! Also, the iPod was working just fine before trying to restore it.

Help! iPod Classic stuck in hold switch mode!

I got a new iPod Classic 80 GB this past week. It works great, except today its stuck in the hold switch mode (shows the lock in the upper left corner), even when the hold switch is not toggled. I've tried restoring the ipod, but nothing works. How can i fix this?

hold switch is for locking keys. it is there for 2 reasons. One, to prevent you accidentally cranking volume or anything while listening. Second, it cuts off power flowing from battery to touch pad. This saves battery power.

Ipod touch stuck in permanent sync mode

Hi. I recently updated my first generation ipod touch to the 3.1.2 update, but now it is stuck in a permanent state of sync. Whenever I connect to the PC (windows 7) it syncs, and syncs, and syncs. Now I am sinking too. Can't install any photos. Lost all my apps. Tried to get help from apple, but they want $29. Any ideas?

have you tried restarting the iPod? hit menu and the center button together until the screen turns off.

The phone is jailbroken. What that means is you can not get help here. Try googling for the error message or buy a phone that isn't jailbroken.
