Ipod 3Gen not recognised by itunes Windows 8

I Pod 3gen not recognised by Windows 8/itunes - has been fine previously however. Any suggestions?
Need to move purchased TV programmes from Ipod to iTunes to create space for further downloads and tend to find this is always less than straightforward. Am however stumped on this occasion by the inability to access ipod which is being recognised by the PC but not accessible on iTunes.
Many thanks

  • 80GB Classic iPod now not recognised by iTunes

All used to be OK but suddenly my 80 GB Classic iPod although being recognised by my PC is not recognised by iTunes. Sometimes a message comes up saying this, sometimes not. Have now updated to latest iTunes but no better. My old shuffle iPod is recognised OK. Help please, though I know there has been a lot of traffic on this subject.

This is typical of an iPod corrupted database.
Your iPod, as a hard drive is still recognized by Windows, but it's not identified as an iPod by iTunes.

  • IPod is not recognised in iTunes

    Hi
This problem has been driving me up the wall! Basically my iPod is not being recognised in iTunes (doesn't appear in the source list) or the Updater. It is recognised in Windows Explorer as it comes up in my "safely remove hardware" section. I have followed the Apple website advice http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716.
I reinstalled COM interface, no luck. Went onto removing iTunes and reinstalled. No joy. I thought if I could completely restore my iPod it may shed some light but of course the Updater always says "Can't mount iPod".
I think I may have registered my iPod early this year, starting with a PC connection. Then updated it on a Mac. On the iPod menu>Setting>About>Format it still says Windows.
Hope the information helps with any solutions
    Thanks
    Steve

Jeff, and anyone else reading this. I did try assigning the iPod to another drive letter and it worked (to some extent). I'll run through what happened, including probably the one thing that I did completely wrong.
Before seeing this reply I thought I would completely wipe my iPod just by deleting the files through windows explorer (very silly, was just desperate). Came to deleting some of the music files and it said "...is not empty" so couldn't delete anymore.
Read the reply above and changed the drive letter, immediately informed my iPod did not have the latest update. Downloaded it and plugged it into my AC to charge (came up with that symbol). This is where it goes hazy, can't remember the complete order of events. Anyway, still no recognition from iTunes after a restart of the PC and iPod drive has reverted back to C. Changed back to N, goes through the process of Updater. I completely restore it and I think it came up with a command "Formatting failure. Disk write error". So I disconnect the iPod, comes up with the AC image and plug it in. GIves me choice of language, completely wiped the iPod without seemingly completing the restore on the computer.
Becomes hazy again. Tried to restore again (didn’t give the option of Updater as I have the latest on there now) and starts going through the process. It has now come up with a couple of messages while trying to restore “Formatting failure. Disk write error” and “Firmware update failure. Disk write error”. Also got a failure message on the toolbar “iTunes:iTunes.exe – Corrupt file. The file or directory \iPod_control is corrupt and unreadable – Please run the Chkdisk utility”.
By this time I had given up. Did the change of directory my brother’s iPod (always formatted for Windows) and his worked straight away. Out of curiosity I plugged mine in again, came up with the message error in the toolbar above but my iPod was suddenly recognised in iTunes. It reorganised the downloads, started uploading. Went to bed, left it on track 1690 loaded out of whatever it was. Computer was still on track 1690 in the morning, locked the computer. Restarted, checked my iPod, only 8 tracks had been loaded. Tried to restore, same messages. Now my iPod won’t turn on, accept to show the Apple logo and then the symbol with the folder and exclamation mark with the iPod support web address below.
Any ideas on what I should do? I can take it into an Apple store, but not for a while.
Sorry this is long but wanted to get as much detail down.
    Thanks

  • IPod touch not recognised by itunes. have tried fix suggested in FAQs

    Hi Guys,
I have a 32gb iPod touch, which recently had been running a bit slowly. As a solution to this i updated with the newest sowftware, and cleared all my apps. Still slow, so i decided to do a system reset from the settings function. This was fine but since then my ipod has not switched on, it merely switches on to the apple logo, and goes back off again. When i hook it to a computer, itunes does not recognise that it is connected and i cant do a system restore. I have tried the 'hold home and connect to cable' trick but with no success. Is this a problem that you have heard of before?ie is there a quick solution, or will it need some parts/software updated by apple?

Help please, from iPod Touch experts?
(Sorry Darraghjoneill, not an answer but extra questions.)
I've an 8Gb iPod Touch which was working fine until around iTunes9. Now it is not recognised in iTunes. I've been through all of the support docs and suggestions covering deinstalling and reinstalling iTunes (including iTunes8), AMDS, USB Drivers, etc. I've an iPod Nano which works fine with the same USB cable in the same USB slot and a 10Gb Classic that works fine through Firewire.
When connecting the iPod Touch it shows the "Connect to iTunes" graphic and does manage to start iTunes but then I get the "iTunes could not ID this iPhone properly, disconnect and reconnect". I do that and then get the "Unknown Error 0xE8000065" problem with the added complication that, whenver this appears it messes up Firefox so no new pages can be loaded and the only fix is to Reboot my whole PC. I also get this Firefox problem when stopping/starting/restarting AMDS.
Stupidly, I thought resetting the iPod Touch to factory defaults might have helped but it didn't so now I have a very shiny brick.
    Any practical suggestions?

  • Black screen/not recognised in Itunes/Windows - tried everything?

My ipod was working fine until a couple of weeks ago when I decided it was time to sync it, and itunes asked me to upgrade the os - which I did, but after a while it froze, then my only option available was to restore - which I did, when it froze again. I'm now left with an ipod touch that has a black screen, is not recognised by itunes, doesn't show up as a device in 'my computer', but does make the 'usb plugged in' sound when i plug it in/out.
    I've tried:
Holding down the buttons to force it to restart / switch off - nothing
Holding the home button whilst plugging it in - nothing
    Charging it - nothing
uninstalling all apple/itunes components and doing a clean reinstall - nothing
using a different computer - nothing
I cant check to see what setting the ipod is in, as the screen is black.
Any suggestions? It's not even 18 months old, has only had light use and I love it!

  • Ipod device not recognised by itunes or Windows

Hi: I wonder if anyone can help me and thanks in advance. I have my itunes program downloaded on my main laptop and I have been using it to download music and sync my ipod classic (120GB) for many years. For the last few months however my Windows (I am on Windows 7) My Computer drive and my itunes are not recognising my ipod device. This means that I cannot download music and sync it to my ipod. I am using an original Apple USB and cable. Initially I thought there might be a problem with the USB head but when I connect my ipod to any other computer - my other laptop, my home PC, and my work PC - all the other computers seem to recognise my ipod device. Just not the computer I want to use.
I have tried everything from uninstalling and reinstalling windows to trying different USB sockets but nothing works. Apple community support is no help and nor are the Apple stores. I have tried looking on Control Panel Device Managers but my system is just not reading my ipod device.
any help will be much appreciated. Thanks! :-)

    Hi there:
Sorry to trouble you again with this but you have been the only person to respond to my earlier query with a sensible and helpful response. Following your suggestion earlier I went to an Apple store intending to buy a new cable but thought I would check with the Genius Bar anyway. As it turns out both my itunes and my ipod are fine as is my cable so there was no need to buy a new one. The assistant there suggested that there wasn't enough power coming through my laptop USB port to power my ipod device. For lack of an alternative explanation, this seems acceptable to me but entirely inexplicable as I work off my 1TB external hard drive with my laptop ALL the time and never have a problem powering that. I fail to understand how a laptop USB port that emits enough power to read a 1TB device can fail to read a 120GB ipod.
However as an alternative the genius bar assistant suggested the following: - He said that I could still continue to download new music on my problem laptop but could simply copy and paste the itunes library folder into another laptop to PC under the My Music area and then sync my ipod with that. It seems like a sensible alternative but having heard horror stories of people struggling to sync different computers and devices with Apple content, I would like a second opinion from you if you think this would work. I once had trouble moving my itunes library from my D drive to C drive in the same laptop so the thought of copying my itunes library into an entirely different computer terrifies me. I dont want to lose my music on which I have spent a fortune. Do you think the genius bar assistant's suggestion would work?
Really sorry for the trouble but I would really appreciate a second opinion. Thanks.

  • My iPod is not recognised by itunes or windows 7

Appreciate any wisdom concerning iPod Classic not being recognised by my PC. I run windows 7 and iPod does not register in My Computer or iTunes.  Thanks for any help in advance.

    Does it charge?
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Try another cable
    - Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, cracked or broken plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store.

  • Ipod Touch 4th gen not recognised by itunes/windows/OSX

So having had my first post removed for one reason or another I will ask again:
Does ANYBODY have any idea at all what is causing this seemingly common error to occur? I have tried all the steps advised by troubleshooting/advisors and members of the public...
Is my only option gonna be to return the device to apple?
I only ask because several people have now complained about this and bar being directed to a certain support page no actual useful advice is being given?

    Does the iPod work?
    Does it charge?
    Did you do everything here:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    Including
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Note the above removes and reinstalls all Apple software

  • IPod Touch not recognised by ITunes but my iPhone 4 works fine.

I am currently not able to sync my ipod touch as it is not seen by iTunes when I connect it.
I am using Windows 7 and the latest version of iTunes and have followed each of the steps listed at
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1495
    but still can't sync.
I have listed several key bits of information which I hope someone can explain.
    1. My iPhone 4 sync's fine - same user account under windows, same usb cable.
    2. When i plug in the ipod touch it starts to charge and iTunes appears to hang. e.g hovering over the file menu doesn't highlight the options. If I wait roughly 3 mintues iTunes starts responding again (file menu's are activated) but still doesn't recognise the ipod touch.
    3. If I do this over and over again I 'sometimes' get iTunes to recognise the device but it presents the 'Restore from backup or restore to factory settings'. If I select restore from backup it then informs me the backup is corrupt. The randomness of getting to this stage has no consistent steps and i've been unable to get to this point over the past 3 days.
    4. I recently bought a movie from iTunes and get the message 'The movie could not be played' and since getting this message i've been unable to get iTunes to see the device.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

I've finally managed to get the device recognised my Windows. The solution was to take my ipod touch round to my friends house who own's an apple mac. Plugged into the Mac itunes instantly see's the device and everything is back to normal.
I can know get my Windows 7 machine to see the device in iTunes. The strange behaviour I see on Windows 7 box is, on plugging in the device iTunes hangs if I then unplug the device and reattach it (repeat this several times) eventually iTunes doesn't hang and sees the device.
Not at elegant solution granted but hopefully this may help someone out. This is obviously a software bug (is it that I am also syncing my iPhone?) as I've ruled out all the hardware involved.

  • 6th generation Ipod nano not recognised in itunes

When I plug my ipod into my laptop, it is recognised in my computer but not in itunes or as a device when trying to safely remove it.
I tried plugging my 4th generation ipod nano into my laptop but again the same thing happens.
I tried plugging it into a different laptop and my 4th generation was recognised but my 6th wasn't. In another laptop, my 6th generation was recognised in itunes and worked fine.
I have tried resetting my ipod both ways, uninstalling itunes and reinstalling, using different USB ports and uninstalling everything apple related and reinstalling it but that hasn't solved the problem.
My laptop was sent away to have the hard drive replaced and this problem has happened since but that doesn't explain why it worked in another laptop but not in another one.
Can anyone suggest anything else I could do to try to make it work?
    My laptop runs windows 7.
    Thank you!

I've tried all of the USB 2.0 ports on my laptop and I have tried using a different cable.
I've tried resetting the ipod whilst connected to the laptop and still isn't recognised.
I am working through the iPod not recognised in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows:
    Step 1: didn't help
    Step 2: didn't help
    Step 3: didn't help
Step 4: Empty your Temp directory and restart - When I tried to delete the Temp folder, a message came up saying 'action can't be completed because the folder or file is open in another program' but I didn't have anything else open so I can't delete that folder.
Step 5: Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed - when I opened the Device Manager window, it was empty, there was nothing, so I couldn't continue with that step.
    Step 6: didn't help
Step 7: I've already tried to remove and reinstall iTunes and it hasn't helped
Step 8: Disable conflicting System Services and Startup Items - I did this and restarted my laptop then tried opening iTunes but it said Bonjour had been disabled so I enabled it but setting it to Automatic and then opened iTunes but the iPod still wasn't recognised.
Step 9: I turned off security and tried but he iPod still wasn't recognised
Step 10: doesn't apply to me as I'm using Windows 7
I've tried the steps in iPod troubleshooting assistant and they haven't helped.
I've put it into disk mode and its still not recognised.
    My ipod isn't Macintosh-formatted.
My ipod doesn't sync via FireWire.
I have now worked through each and every single suggestion from Apple.
I have run a device connectivity test with the iPod attached and here are the results:

  • My iPod is not recognised in iTunes BUT I have tried to restore it!!

Okay, at home and my iPod went dead so I plugged it into mates laptop at home to charge (didn't think this would hurt it cos I didn't touch his keyboard or press anything, just charged it!) Came to work tried to update iPod with new tunes and it said it did not recognise the iPod (the name I gave my iPod did not come up either) and told me to restore it. Clicked on restore - told me it would go back to factory settings and I would lose everything). I went ahead and restored it. No it just keeps telling me to restore it. My iPod just has the do not disconnect icon coming up and is empty - none of my songs or pictures are updating on my iPod. Please please can someone tell me how I make my iTunes recognise my iPod again and put all my songs back on!!! PLEASE!! I am lost without my iPod!!!! Thanks Lucie....xx
    iPod Video 30GB   Windows XP

I had the same thing happen. I hooked my iPod up to my notebook, which has iTunes and is set up for my daughter's iPod 30GB Video. I have the old clickwheel 20 GB. Mine is set up to use my desktop computer. I thought it would not harm it to just charge it on my notebook as long as the notebood was turned off. Then when connecting to desktop, I got the do not disconnect sign..I ended up rebooting the computer and ended up with the sad iPod face. I have reset so many times and cannot restore iPod. I have charged it numerous times with the wall outlet. When connected to the desktop, it just shows the Apple icon. I have reinstalled iTunes. Please let me know if you find an answer to this problem. Best of luck to us both.
Anyone who can help us please do so.
    Thank you!

  • IPod Shuffle not recognised by iTunes on Mac or PC

    hi
i have just received a new ipod shuffle 1GB 2nd Gen and when i first plugged it in to my Mac it wasn't recognised by iTunes, only as a 'Volume' in Finder. I could see that it was formatted as FAT-16 which i had never heard of before, only FAT-32, so i thought i would format it for Apple (MAC OS extended - Journaled), but still it wasn't recognised. I can drag and drop files onto the Shuffle as though it was a hard drive, but nothing else. I have attempted to restore it with the Ipod reset utility, but because it isn't recognised as an ipod i get a message 'Plug in Ipod to reset it' and the 'OK' button is greyed out. I get just the same behaviour when i plug the shuffle into a PC - i.e. it shows in explorer but isn't recognised in iTunes or by the iPod reset utility. the shuffle has been plugged in for a few hours, so should be fully charged. I have tried formatting to FAT-32 as well with no joy, and repairing the disk in disk utility but it says that all is fine.
i would be grateful for any help to get my shuffle working!
    thanks

Same problem here, on 10.10.2 with iTunes 12.0.1, my iPod Classic 160 ejects immediately, on my mavericks mac with iTunes 12.0.1, all is well.
I've tried forcing iTunes not to run, by getting it into 'choose library mode' (holding down option key, whilst starting), and the iPod stays connected, but as soon as an iTunes library is chosen, it ejects.  This leads me to think, it may be a system call that iTunes is using that has changed in 10.10.2, forcing the eject.
To Xavier, I don't see an issue with my iPhone wifi sync, although as I tried reinstalling iTunes to remedy the iPod situation, I did have to set that up again on the summary page.
I've also submitted a feedback assistant report, hopefully a fix will be coming...
