IPod 4 virus?

My iPod 4th generation does not play any kind of videos and Safari, nor mail doesn't work they both crash every time i open them;  also, i tried to restore everything multiple times, also, i can not update to iOS 6 and it fails to do so every time with restoring and updating. Should a virus be expected?

  • Can iPods get viruses, or anything of the sort?

I'm using a video converter I'm not sure about (AVS Video to iPod 2.2 (To convert my SELF-MADE videos)) If it gives my computer a virus, which I doubt, I've had it a while, could it also affect my iPod? Could it affect my iPod in any way at all?

I Have Heard that you can transport viruses between pc's by usb-sticks/disks and therefore ipods as well, this doesnt affect your ipod, but the lender of your ipod, owned of computer u used with your ipod can get trouble. i heard this was because the autorun feature in windows is easiliy affected by leaks, a virus could install itself on a stick, the autorun part, and everytime the stick is inserted in a pc, windows runs the autorun and activates the virus.

  • Ipod touch virus

Is it possible for the Ipod touch to get a virus on the internet? Like a email with a Spam? Or an app that you downloaded had a a virus?
If so is there an anti-virus program for the ipod touch?
I don't want my ipod to crash.

Currently, there are no viruses which affect the Touch. Therefore, no anti-virus software.
All computers (and the Touch is a computer of sorts) will crash at some point. That's why you should have all your data backed up.
    Best of luck.

  • Ipod updates stopped: virus?

I can not update my ipod from the songs I have in iTunes anymore. Instead I get the message, "attempting to copy the disk " robphoton's ipod" failed. An unknown error occurred (-36).
Originally I was able to get a few songs across at a time before the message stopped the process, and then I would have to redo to get a few more, but now it comes up so fast it stops all song copying to the ipod. There is plenty of space on the ipod. It is not near the limit.
I reset the ipod to factory setting and reinstalled latest ipod program with updater, but still get problem. My itunes songs are resident on a maxtor 200 GB drive, but I have no problems copying and writing to it as far as I can tell.
I deleted all other itunes song folders, and the program is pointing at the one on the maxtor drive. It starts to do the process and then stops. I wonder if it is some kind of ipod killing virus. My itunes works fine.
Please help. Otherwise the ipod is useless.

I'm glad it's working now... but I can tell you that is was absolutely NOT a virus that was causing your trouble.
There are currently no viruses that can infect Mac OS X, and none that can cause syncing problems between your iPod and your computer. There is no such thing as an "iPod killing virus".
Virex may have detected something... possibly an e-mail attachment that you saved to hard drive or something... but it most certainly was not any type of Virus that could run on your machine.
You can be a carrier of Windows viruses, but they will not affect your computer at all.
This "fix" by running Virex was pure coincidence, nothing more.

  • Photos, viruses, what in the world???

Please help if you can... I updated my husband's nano today, 1st time on this computer since he returned from overseas... his ipod now has over 400 pictures on it, however, my computer currently has only about 30. Our computer has been having issues for a while now. These are all older photos that I thought were no longer on my computer but somehow got onto his ipod and they were not originally put there before I sent his ipod to him, nor were they on the computer he used while overseas. So my guess is when I updated tonight they got on there somehow. When I tried to use the ipod as disk to get the photos back onto my computer, it only shows thumbs in the file which I guess is b/c full res pics wasn't enabled, but when I tried to open things in the files, Norton said it found a virus and deleted it. The photos are still on the nano though. Have you heard of ipods having viruses and did the virus come from my computer or from the ipod? The problem with the photos is I'd like to recover them if possible, b/c I can't find them on my computer or external hard drive, but if they are only thumbnails, how? And are they still somewhere on my computer which I'm guessing is where the ipod picked them up tonight,(but they are not in itunes, not in my pics, not in recycle bin, etc...) and if not, how in the world did they get on the ipod? Anyone with some computer knowledge, please please help

...and neither do we. Sorry, you need to provide a lot more info. You do not even tell us what you are doing, so this is - no offense - just pointless mumbling at the screen. What program do you use/ plan to use? What problems do you have? Download? Install? What system? What errors/ warnings?

  • Can't move video and pix files back to iPod Touch from desktop computer

I moved (via drag-and-drop in Windows) video and picture files from an iPod Touch (iOS 5.1.1) to a Windows 7 desktop computer. I want to copy some of them back, but it won't let me drag-and-drop to copy them back to the iPod. How do I get the files back on the iPod? I know that the "disk mode" is not available on the Touch. Also, although the iPod shows up in iTunes on my desktop computer, these video and picture files (Quick Time Movies, JPEGs, etc.) don't show up there. So, I'm out of ideas. A related question: how do I scan the iPod using my Windows 7 desktop computer's anti-virus application (McAfee)? Normally, when I right-click on a device on the desktop computer, it offers me the ability to scan it for viruses. Not only does it not give me this option for the iPod; the iPod doesn't even show up as a hard drive; it shows up in the window as a separate "flavor" of drive. Is there a way to make Windows 7 think that the iPod Touch is just another USB-connected drive; i.e., is there a way to mimic the disk mode option that is available on other models of the iPod other than the Touch?

    - There is no way to scan the iPod for virus via a computer program. I know of no way to scan an iPod.

  • IPod Classic (160 gb) Serious problem, need help!

a day ago, i was playing some music (with iPod speakers), after an hour of playing i connected my ipod to headphones and resumed playng, but my ipod started "lagging" like when i pressed music it took 1 min to enter Music menu. after 15 minutes it returned to normal, and after playing some music for 30 minutes it just froze.
i was not at home so i had no computer to restore it with itunes, so i tried to reset it, when i reseted it ipod logo appeared and nothing more happened. i tried to reset it again but again, i got stuck on apple logo. i decided to let it rest for a while and i wanted battery to die and charge it back up. after an hour it started reseting itself it went on and off again but nothing more than apple logo appeared. every 15 minutes or so it did that. when battery died i recharged it but i couldnt get past apple logo.
i restored my ipod with itunes today. it gave ema an error 1453 (or sth like that) but first when i connected ipod my computer didnt recognize it. i put my ipod into disk mode and then itunes started recognising it. i restored it it kind of started normally sycnronised songs but when i disconected it, bang apple logo appeared. i tried restoring it again but the problem didnt go away. i tried scanning my ipod for viruses. (i have a good anti-virus) so after 40% of scanning was done it gave me an eror that there was no disc. and the scan button never appeared on ipod again after that...
    so can anyone help me?
or am i doomed? oh and by the way i bought my ipod 1 year ago and i had dropped it only once throughout the whole year (it was 5 months ago) and nothing happened to it.

I've had that problem before, reboot your pod. hold down the center button and the menu button at the same time till you see the apple logo. That should clear it up.

  • PLEASE HELP, I have 3 questions...

Okay, so I just bought my 30GB Ipod and have a few nube questions.
    1. How can I scan the ipod for viruses?
    2. Is it normal that with no music on the ipod it says i have something like 28 or 27 gigs available? Is this space just used up by games and other applications that come previously installed?
    3. For albums that are loaded onto the ipod I have assigned them album art, these are displayed when I play the songs in my itunes, but they dont display while playing the album on my ipod. HELP PLEASE AND THANK YOU!!

    1) As far as I know, viruses aren't an issue for iPods.
    2) This is normal because of the way manfacturer's calculate hard disk space. See the explantion at the bottom of this link.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60955
    3) Sorry really can't help since I'm on a Mac, but I do know that playlists have nothing to do with displaying album art.

  • Hidden files as a system folders

    hello,
Few months ago, i added folders into my ipod as a hard disk.
    the problem is this-
Few weeks ago, the folders has been "gone". That's what i thought at first.
But then, when i scanned my ipod for viruses, i saw it's scanning the folders that has been "deleted". and the ipod is clean from virous.
So i tried to type the name of the folders in the link line and it worked.
I discovered that the folders has been changed some how to be a kind of a system folders and i can't see them unless i'm changing it trough the folder option.
but then when i see the files hidden, i can not change the folders back into a regular status.
I really need help. I'm on a big trip and my ipod is my hard disk.
i tried to talk with people who have the same problem and they also waiting for a solution.
hope to get an answer soon.

"Thank" you apple for supporting my problems.
I'll know where to shop next time when i'll search my new techs..

  • My iPod Touch (5th generation) is not responding to my touch. There are also several colored lines in the background of my screen. Virus?

Since my iPod isn't responding to my touch, I can't switch it off or restart it as I normally would. I've tried doing the hold-down-the-sleep-button-and-the-home-button-for-ten-seconds thing but when the Apple logo appears, it's either completely pink in color or there are these vertical colored lines in the background. When the lock screen reappears, sometimes it looks completely normal (but it still doesn't respond), or everything's blurred, or there are these weird colours in the background, or those lines I mentioned before, but most of the times, it's completely dark and I can onlu see this moving flash at the bottom of the screen (indicating the presence of the slide to unlock thing).
My computer was recently reformatted because it had had a virus, so I'm worried my iPod has gotten the virus too. I have some data on there that I really can't lose. (I haven't backed up this data because my computer had been on the fritz for the past two weeks).
Is taking it to an Apple Help Centre the only cure? (I purchased the item in March 2013; Is there any chance I can get it replaced for free?) I tried moving the photos from the device to my PC but it says there are no photos in my device. (I've moved my photos before when I'd forgotten my password and was about to reset it.)
I would really like some advice ASAP because if it is a virus, the longer I keep it untouched, the more havoc it causes. i fear.

I do not think talking to Apple will do more than the following:
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Due to virus attack i had to format my windows laptop...now when i installed new itunes software i had to sync my ipod touch again but it says that if do the same then the data on my ipod touch will be erased....how should i protect my ipod touch data?

due to the virus attack i had to format my windows laptop...now when i installed new itunes software i had to sync my ipod touch again but it says that if i do it then the data present on my ipod touch will be erased as it is syncd to some older library... how should i protect my ipod touch data?

With all you media (apps, music) in the iTunes library connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup. Do that by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up. Then restore the iPod from that backup.
Note the the iPod backup that iTunes makes does not included synced media like apps and music.

  • Restored ipod touch(and started as new) is downloading "The Oregon Trail" whenever i try to download the first app on the device...I know people say you cant get a virus but im sure this is one. Any idea on how to get it off?

The computer where i always sync to and stuff got a virus the other day so i reinstalled windows which deleted data on the computer. As a precaution i restored my ipod (no backup) and everything seemed fine as i checked for any left over data. The ipod had the home page and the search page. Then i decided to get some apps. I signed in, pressed install button for textplus(first app on the clean ipod) and then it started loading. However, next to the loading textplus app there was the app "The Oregon Trail" which i know i did NOT install. "The Oregon Trail" is paused and not loading but the picture of the app is different from the one in the app store. I am convinced this is a virus because not only does it look different from the app store version and i ended up on my ipod without permission, it also takes up more memory than the app store says (around 350mb). I've restored multiple times and the same problem comes up again and again and again. Once i let the app load and then deleted it, but when i check i only have the same amount of memory than bfore. Does this mean i cant download any apps because of this corrupt app?????

    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
    - iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
    Public DNS — Google Developers
    OpenDNS IP Addresses
    - For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem
    - Try on another computer/network
    - Wait if it is an Apple problem
