Ipod 40 Gig Photo problems

I currently own an Apple ipod 40 Gig Photo that will not work. The unit decided to stop working today. Anyway, I get the unhappy ipod icon and I have also received the folder error. I tried everything listed on the support site and nothing seems to work. I can force the ipod into Disk mode but it will only stay there for 3-4 seconds and then it re-boots. I cannot run the updater in time… The darn machine is out of warranty by 3 months and I paid over 700 dollars for it in Dec 04!
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Steve

1. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) will conquer most iPod issues.
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
2. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
Still can't see your iPod?
Several things could keep iPod from appearing in iTunes or in the Desktop/Finder when you connect it to your PC/Mac. The most likely causes are listed below in logical order. Check each one starting from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping iPod from appearing.
3. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
4. Try another known-good FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
5. Try another known-good FireWire or USB port on your computer .
6. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
7. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. We've found that in many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. BTW, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
8. Try to do a Erase (Disk Utility) on a Mac computer or a reformat with a PC (Disk Management tool) but ensure you choose the right Drive (your iPod not your Hard Disk of your computer).
9. Try to run the iPod in “Diagnostic mode” . which can be accessed by pushing the “hold” switch into the “on” position and then “off” (into the original position). Then press the following buttons in the following order: “menu” plus “select” (centre button) then press “reverse” plus “select”. This will take you to the hidden diagnostic mode screen menu. It may take a few trials and pressing the buttons in the right way for this to work, so be patient and keep trying if you have to. The diagnostic mode will give you 7 choices which are: Memory, IO, Power, Status, SysCfg, Diskmode, and Reset. Don’t bother trying “reset” because in my case it didn’t work it just took me back to the same problem. Instead, choose “diskmode”, after which you should get an odd looking “ok to disconnect” sign on the iPod screen.
If one of the above step helps to get your iPod to be recognized with your computer, do a Restore.
But, if none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired. You can arrange for service at the iPod Service Website.
From my experience, the Sad iPod icon/folder with exclamation mark problems are the toughest, you have to do a Restore in order to fix it. However, when your iPod is showing this icon, it is probably to late for your computer to recognize the iPod.
Let me ask you a question, if an iPod with no iPod software with it. When your connect it with a computer in Disk Mode, what will happen?
Yeah, the computer will treat it as a fresh external hard disk, the iPod will get mounted and the computer will ask you whether you want to format it in order for iPod to be recognized. Once it has been completed (I prefer to delete the Partion follow by a format), eject your iPod, open the iPod updater and interestingly, you will able to do the Restore this time.

  • Ipod Touch Photo Problem

Im a window user, I've trying to put photos into my ipod touch, but everytime i do so, it will delete all the other pics i put on itouch before, any idea what I''m doing wrong? Please help

Hello, and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Unfortunately, you can only sync photos, not add them individually. So what you have to do is set up a folder with all your iPod pics inside in as many subfolders as you like, but iTunes will only recognise the first layer.
Then tell iTunes to sync with that folder and manage that folder afterwards as you like.
    Hope this helps.

  • New 80 gig Video iPod and Handbrake problems

I just purchased a new 80 gig Video iPod. I took one of my DVD movies that I own and used Mac The Ripper and DVD2One to get it onto my Powerbooks Hard Drive. I then used Instant Handbrake to make it iPod ready. It loaded fine into iTunes 7 (with the newest updates) and also played fine from within iTunes. When I went to sync it up with my new iPod iTunes gave me a message stating that this movie is not the correct format for this iPod. So I then tried using the full version Handbrake and got the same message. I know that either of these should work because I set a friend up with these same programs and we put his movies onto his 5th Gen 60 gig iPod without any problems. However, I researched iPod video conversions for the new iPods on the Apple website here and learned that there is a feature in iTunes 7 under advanced, when you highlight a video, you can go under Advanced and click on Convert Selection for iPod. Is this something that I'm going to have to do everytime, or does someone know an easier way to put MY DVDs into iTunes for my new 5th Gen 80 gig Video iPod? Please help because this process takes waaaaaaayyyyyyy tooooooo long!

It all depends on what your target settings were and whether or not you were attempting to incorporate Baseline LC Profile features into your movie. Basically, if you use the H.264 codec at VGA resolutions or with video data rates which exceed 768 kbps or wish to include chaptering, then you will have to use QT Pro v7.1.3/iTunes 7 conversion (or the latest version of ffmpegX or ViddyUp!) to create an LC iPod compatible file. (MPEG Streamclip and probably HandBrake programmers are still working on their LC upgrades.)

  • Advanced iPod Photo Problem

    Riddle me this:
I am unable to get photos on my iPod Nano. I follow the directions. I tab over to Photos, check "Sync photos from:" and browse to the folder I want to sync from. We'll call it "My Pictures". I click "Apply"
iTunes then indicates that it is "optimizing photos", and it appears to be syncing. After it finishes, I disconnect the iPod, and find NO photos.
I try again, unchecking, and rechecking "Sync photos from:". I even try "Include full resolution photos", and I have plenty of space. Still nothing.
Next attempt: Since I have "Enable disk use" checked on the summary page, I use Windows Explorer to navigate to the iPod drive. I find the Photos folder. It contains an empty "Photo Database" file, and an empty "Thumbs" folder.
I then notice that my "My Pictures" folder from which I had previously attempted to sync has a new folder in it called "iPod Photo Cache". I browse to find 51 folders within labeled F00 through F50, as well as a "Photo Datebase" file (which is clearly full of info at 147 KB). I drag F00 through F50 and "Photo Database" to my iPod's "Photos" folder. After disconnecting my iPod, I discover that I have found a workaround to my problem, as my Photos are all now on my iPod.
But wait, it couldn't be that easy.
As soon as I reconnect my iPod to my PC, iTunes recognizes space on my iPod dedicated to photos (indicated by a yellow block in the "Capacity" frame on "Summary" tab. And I notice some unusually long syncing, with references to my photos. When the syncing stops, the previously yellow space on the "Capacity" frame indicating the space used by my photos is gone. I disconnect the iPod to verify, and the photos are gone.
Then, I check the "My Pictures" folder on my PC (from which the sync was originally referenced), and iTunes had permanently deleted all of the pictures in "My Pictures" folder (as part of the last syncing process).
Luckily I have all of my photos backed up somewhere...but seriously, what is wrong with my system? Anyone have any ideas?
    Any help is gratefully appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Shaun

  • Ipod classic (photo) and windows version not recognized by itunes on my macbook air. Iphone works fine and previously it also worked out with the Ipod. If someone has an answer that would be great. thanks

itunes on my mac does not any longer show my ipod classic (photo, window formated). It worked before and itunes with iphone just works fine. Any clue? Thanks.

Sorry to jump the gun, but did you connect the iPod via USB Hub on the MB Air?
If plug it into the wrong USB port, which is shared like using a USB Hub, I would suggest connecting the iPod directly to the MB Air and not via USB Hub.
But if you connect directly, have the iPod ever connect to iTunes, without problems, on this MB Air?
You got an old 4G iPod photo, based on iPod Software version 1.2.1
I mean downgrade to the iTunes version, that was working, with your iPod, but try the right USB port first before downgrading iTunes, with earlier version download here.

  • Is it possible to restore a no longer activated iPhone? (photo problem)

I gave my daughter my first generation iPhone when I upgraded to 3gs, which she uses as an iPod Touch, not a phone.
When she takes a picture, while the picture is saved (because we connect to iPhoto they load), however when she takes the picture, they do not display on the phone itself nor can she access through the photo app on the phone.
Does anyone know, is it possible to restore the device even though it is no longer activated as an iPhone? Or will doing so lock the phone?
Any advice would be so appreciated. Have searched the topics for tips on how to resolve the photo issue but was unable to find anything. Am thinking restore may be the only hope...?

I'm not sure why the ATT rep would take the SIM out of the old phone and put it in the new phone. If the old phone has a SIM in it, have you tried plugging it in to iTunes and restore it?
Am not sure why either, but they definitely did. I looked at the sim card and it says 3g on it, which I know is just a marking and not exclusive to 3g network/phone. Therefore cannot be the original, as I purchased that phone June 2007, way before 3g.
Anyhow... was able to find a solution to the photo problem, which worked perfectly!
Here is the link in case anyone who reads this has the same photo problem. It's super easy and works great.

  • Ipod preferences photo tab?

I have the new itunes 7 and for some reason when I plug in my ipod, the photo tab in the ipod preferences screen doesn't show up. I used to have photos on my ipod and now it's just empty. Help!

You will not see a Photo tab as you're Nano has not been updated/optimized for the Mac. Check your Nano software in "About" and see if it's still formatted as Fat32. If so, there's your problem. The solution in one of the Apple KB is to do a archive and install. Why, beacuse most likely you are missing the "iPodDriver.kext" file.

You can transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
Most other stuff by the third-party programs discussed here:
    Best iPod to PC
However, your app data such as saved games will be lost unless you have a backup file from your old computer.

  • Slideshow crop photos problem when i close the thumbnail botton

In the slideshow i use thumbnail photo "turned on" to change the pictures (is it the only way to do it?)  and manage them with crop function but when i later close thumbnail (i don't want visible) photos resize. Any suggestion ?

I have not a link yet, i'm preparing the graphic layout at the time. I bypassed the problem importing in muse the right photos size without use crop. Maybe i should see better edit photo functions tutorials. I'm new with Muse.

  • Photo problem in Elements7

I edited several photos through Elements 7 and when I pressed SAVE a box pulled up and I just skimmed it and I thought it just said it was going to group my photo on top of the original, but now when I go to open the photo back up it is not a photo but a box with a crack down the center of it. When I try to pull it up and edit it more it reads "cannot open the picture because it is the wrong type file" I need these picture badly and I cannot even find the original. PLEASE HELP!!!!

While on the Editor space screen on PSE7, on the top taskbar, the first
button should be the FILE option followed by EDIT and so on. When you
click on FILE, one of the options on the drop down window should be
"Close". This is what I use to close and save my edited images. When you
are on the organizer this options are not going to be present, these are
only available on the Editor workspace.
