Ipod 4g os 4.3 crashes itunes (latest) at every sync

every time i start to sync my ipod 4g 32gb with latest firmware and itunes it crashes (no error message, just hangs) have to kill itunes with the task manager, have no idea how to fix it. all on my ipod is perfectly legal, not tinkered in any way. Latest Win7 Pc is running smoothly with zone alarm firewall and latest virus scan.
this kind of error is what apple stuff is not famous for,
but as long as the error prevails i will do my best to throw dirt on the ipod 4g and apples reputation.

My ITouch crashed while updating firmware to 4.3.1. I can find no help anywhere from Apple. This company are a shambles. If anyone reads this before buying anything Apple I suggest you find a more stable alternative where you can get help with any problems you might encounter.
If any one from Apple should be bothered to read this, how do I recover my ITouch after it crashed during a firmware update???????

  • Ipod v1.2 upgrade automatically starts playing songs after every sync with

    Hi,
My problem is rather unique and certainly one i hadnt forseen. My iPod starts playing a 'smart playlist' i recently made with itunes 7 after every sync with the computer...the issue is that it starts after 30-40 mins of disconnection from my PC. this is very infurating since i am hardly around to check if it is playing or not. Mostly i find out about it a couple of hours after my last sync with PC. I have tried activating 'hold' button to make sure there is no outside influence however, it does this through a locked drawer!
I hope someone can help me out or include this in the next 'patch/bug fix' for iTunes/ipod

Anyone want to help at all? This is getting a little ridiculous. Honestly, with all the problems I've been having, especially with itunes, I really don't think I'm ever going to buy an apple product again.

  • IPod (5th gen?) keeps crashing iTunes

Hi there. I'm trying to restore my iPod. At first, it kept crashing iTunes when I connected it to my computer so I couldn't even restore. I rebooted and was able to restore but it crashed iTunes during syncing. Now it keeps crashing iTunes when I restart it. Is my iPod dead or is there anything else worth trying here? iTunes software is up to date.

    Try the Hrad Reset first
After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours)
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs or till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.
Here is the Apple support Article on the 5Rs
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/classic/
Then do the iPod Disk Diagnostic, in this earlier post by tt2, it wont fix your problem, but help you decide if your iPod is dead.

  • IPOD Showing No Music and Crashing iTunes

    Hi all,
Earlier today I was listening to my ipod classic 80GB, the music stopped and the screen showed the apple, then it came back on and said there was no more at all on my ipod, however, it still says 40GB used, but the type of file it says is used is 'other' and not audio.
I tried to plug it into my laptop but it crashes itunes and I therefore cannot restore it or manage it at all.
I look forward to your responses in alleviating this irritating problem.

Most likely your iPod Hardisk is dying, and failing to do a final write after Sync.
Do the iPod Disk Diagnostic as posted by tt2, it wont fix your problem, but  help in troubleshooting.
    Have a nice day!

  • HT1923 Hi, my Ipod classic is not reflecting in Itunes (latest version) but I can see it in Computer as a hard disk. Kindly assist

    Hi,
My Ipod classic is not reflecting in Itunes which I have recently downloaded but it reflects in my computer as a hard disk.
    Please give me a solution.
    Thanks

Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.
Also see these (if you haven't found them already):
Your Windows PC doesn't recognize iPod
iPod does not appear in iTunes or on the desktop
iPod appears in Windows Explorer but does not appear in iTunes

If the iPod does not appear in iTunes then:

  • Ipod Touch 32 GB keeps crashing Itunes

And please, no, "This is happening to me, too" answers. I want to resolve this now!
Back history- A virus destroyed my computer so i had to restore it. I reinstalled Itunes. So, I put my ipod touch in the USB, I tried to sync a movie or mp3 file and it crashes. This NEVER happened to me before.
And yes, I did a restore on my ipod touch, that was fine but I am STILL unable to sync anything onto my ipod touch. I am able to put files on my Ipod classic, ipod nano, though.
No way am I going to replace it. The ipod touch STILL works, just won't sync anything!

You need to make sure that Apple Mobile Device Services (AMDS) is running properly on your computer. Read through this article and follow the troubleshooting steps: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567
If you have to re-install iTunes, you need to use the Control Panel and completely remove AMDS, iTunes, and QuickTime and then reboot your computer. Then download and install iTunes.

  • IPod not recognized by PC or iTunes - can no longer sync iPod

I had to shut down my PC due to a storm and I didn't realize that my iPod was still connected with the message "do not disconnet". Now my PC does not recognize my iPod. I've tried resetting it, uninstalling/reinstalling the driver and the iTunes application, as well as a new USB cable. Nothing works. Any thoughts? Help...please...thanks~

I have similar problems with my ipod classic (I sync my ipod with my macbook). Every so often it will give me an error saying I disconnected my ipod before unmounting it (even though I did not disconnect it or tried to unmount it). This also happend on my PC running Win 7.
This error message appears to happen randomly when the ipod is syncing with iTunes. I just bought my ipod probably about a month ago and this happend about four times so far. In fact, it just happend a few minutes ago and I am reloading all of my data on it right now. My old ipod (which was stolen a few weeks back) never had this much of a problem.
The first time this happend (and after a few days of trial and error) I reformatted my ipod in FAT32, enable disk mode, then reformat again in HFS+ using itunes and syncing all of my data (the order of operations is important).
Sometimes I just had to restore the factory settings using iTunes without reformatting. Other times I had to enable disk mode and reformat HFS+ filesystem, skipping the FAT32 format.
I had to shut down my PC due to a storm and I didn't realize that my iPod was still connected with the message "do not disconnet". Now my PC does not recognize my iPod.
I don't think this caused your problem because Windows unmounts (or ejects) all disks (including your ipod) from the computer before turning off. I am assuming you are turning off your computer using the start menu in Windows.
    POSSIBLE SOLUTION:
A possible solution is to put the ipod in disk mode (this is sort of like a safe mode for the ipod), connect it to your computer and let iTunes reformat. You will lose all of your data and settings but you can always change the settings back and resync.
The apple website has directions on how to enable disk mode then reformatting your ipod.
    link: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1363
Once you put it in disk mode, then you can let iTunes reformat and sync your data.
You might have to reformat your ipod in disk mode more than once (I usually have to do it at least twice before I can start syncing with iTunes.
    I hope this helps.

  • 5th gen ipod is connected and seen on itunes yet will not sync

My 5th gen ipod-nano is connected - visual and accessible on new version of itunes (using PC, running Win 7) yet will not sync. This only started happening after the last update from apple and I have spent HOURS trying to figure out how to fix including removing all apple apps and software and reinstalling 6 times now!!! Even when a diagnoses is run it shows my ipod is connected yet when I try to sync.. it tells me that disk is not found?

Well, nothing has worked yet.  Same Itunes account.  When I try to download from the App Store app on the touch, I downloads all the way to the end of the loading... installing phases. then says, "Unable to Downlad Application: app will be available for download when you log in to the Itunes Store on your computer."
But Itunes on the computer will do the same thing... load it all the way up, then give an error code of OxE8003FFE.
I tried restoring the Ipod, so now it only has the factory apps, music, videos, and no apps.  And I can't add even one app.

  • ITunes playlists no longer sync with iPod!

I just made a new playlist and it won't sync with my iPod. I see it on iTunes, but I have synced multiple times with my iPod since then, and it is not appearing on my iPod.
I have multiple prior playlists that I synced last year with no problem. The only change I can think of is that I recently updated iTunes to 8.0.
    Any ideas out there?

I noticed that the same topic was posted in September as an iPhone issue. The discussion also centered around smart playlists. Although a few workarounds were posted, mostly involving changing the podcast genre to "Music" from "Podcast", I have not been able to sync these playlists.
I want to simply create a playlist with podcasts and sync these playlists to my ipod Touch. This is handy, if not essential, for safe enjoyment of my podcasts while driving.
Is Apple considering a fix for this ?! Or is there a workaround ?

  • ITunes latest version crashes my 5G iPod

I've used this stuff since you first came out with the iPod. Then iTunes. It's been really great until now. I know about the 5R's and have tried them (repeatedly).
Problem: I open iTunes, connect my iPod, iTunes says it's updating the iPod. The UI freezes (not even refreshing) then it crashes. I purchased music from the iTunes store and I cannot even use it! That really is not fair. But, HOPE that you can repro this issue and resolve it. I'm used to having m$ stuff crash but not apple stuff. If you would like me to send you a crash dump I would be more than happy to help.

Actually i think i wrote the wrong subject. It's itunes that crashes.
I'm using the 60gb. It's actually been fine. It's iTunes latest version that isn't working properly.

  • HELP: iTunes 6 unable to sync songs with ipod - hangs freezes crashes

    Hi,
This has been posted before, but a search of 500 messages have turned up no solutions. Anyone who has any idea of a solution please help.
    PROBLEM:
iTunes 6 and ipod 5th gen unable to sync songs or manually move more than 50 songs at a time to ipod. It hangs / freezes / crashes when updating the ipod. It will stop at 50 songs, 100 songs, sometimes even 2200 songs - out of 8000.
The "Beachball of death" comes on, and there is no way to force quit or stop the now frozen update. The only thing that gets a response is pulling the ipod from the dock or powering the computer down manually.
    TRIED:
    1. Repair permissions
    2. Update ipod with latest ipod update software
    3. Restore ipod " " " " '
    4. Used Activity Monitor to see where program hangs - no added info, it will stop randomly at different songs, and next time around it will pick another son to hang / freeze at
    5. uncheck "put hard disks to sleep when possible" in Energy Preferences pane
I am at my wits end with this..... will try anything.... even Voodoo at this point as long as you tell me it worked for you!
Anyone ever solved this long standing problem (which seems to be present with iTunes 7 as well) ?
    Thanks !

  • After itunes 6.0.2 and 1-10 updater - both ipods crash itunes when updating

    I'm annoyed.
I upgraded my to iTunes 6.0.2 (Windows XP) and ran the 1-10 updater on two ipods - a mini and a 20GB pre-photo model (I guess that's a 3rd gen?). After doing so, iTunes crashes when updating begins. If I plug an ipod in without iTunes, everything is OK and I can see the unit and directory structure in Explorer. When the ipod is disconnected and I run iTunes, everything is fine - no problems. But when you connect an ipod, iTunes sees it, and then shows "Updating ipod", it sits like that for awhile, then I hear the hard drive in the iPod click, and a few seconds later I get:
"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" etc. etc.
I tried doing a restore of one of my ipods (the 3rd gen) to the 2005-11-17 firmware by running that updater and doing "Restore". The problem is still happening, but now my ipod is empty because I did the restore!
Unfortunately, I can't tell what the problem is - iTunes or the 1-10 update.
Has anyone else had any problems like this? Any ideas? Can I downgrade iTunes?
    Please help!
    Chris

Has anyone come up with a method to resolve this issue? I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, and no luck.
One very obvious thing I can see is that 2006-1-10 update clearly bombs iTunes fast. I downgrade my firmware to 2005-11-17 and it appears to want to update. I'm attempting to update again (about the 30th time since I've had this problem a few days ago). Let's see how it goes since I've actually done this before... One thing I'm doing differently though is syncing just the podcasts, no music. It shouldn't make a difference, but maybe there's something odd in there with DRM?
Another observation - when I connected the iPod with the My Computer window open, I saw the H: drive (my ipod) appear for a few seconds. It then disappeared from there, iTunes came up, and then reappeared. iTunes tried to sync, but then bombed out.
    I hope this helps someone..
I can't believe that Apple hasn't responded to this issue yet. This has to be impacting more than a few hundred users on this site.

  • I plugged my ipod nano 6th gen in to the latest version of itunes today and as soon as i plugged it it it turned on automatically as it should when i came back to it 5 mins later, picked it up and it felt warm and it wouldnt turn on. what should i do?

I have the same problem and can't seem to figure out what the problem is. I rebuilt my iTunes library and still my 6G nano crahes whenever I load an AAC tune onto it.  MP3s and podcasts all work fine, it's just the AACs...
Just *loading* an AAC song will cause the Nano 6G to reboot as soon as it disconnects from Itunes. It will then reboot a few times and then go into recovery mode. :-(
