IPOD 4th Gen & Itunes 9 - ALL kind of problems - HEW HARDDRIVE

I had to replace the Hard drive on my daughters laptop the old one crashed, along with her Library. The new hard drive is working fine(VISTA HOME PREM), she installed itunes 9. The Ipod will not sync or transfer any purchased music to the computer, Itunes recognizes the Ipod, and lists the songs on it. The problem occurs when we try to sync or transfer the music.
I though maybe something with her computer, I plugged it into my Laptop (XP PRO)
I opened Itunes, plugged in her ipod and it recognized it, I clicked on transfer purchased music, and it disconnects itself.
Any HELP would be greatly appreciated

  • Does iPod (4th gen) have a battery life problem?

    I have had my 4th gen iPod for less than 2 years (was a replacement after the screen was cracked. Was purchased at an actual Apple Retail store).  I am now finding that it won't hold a charge. I have tried 4 different cords (including the original cords from the original and the replacement iPod) plus 2 other iPod compatible cords and plug it in every night, only to find out that 6 out of 7 days it still reads as having a low battery (at 20% battery life). I am pretty sure it is not the cords. In addition, lately I have been getting messages about the temperature (being either too hot or too cold). I do not leave my iPod in the sun or in my car EVER, yet I've gotten messages about the battery being too hot (even when it was in an air conditioned house for several hours) and now I am getting messages about it being too cold (it is freezing outside, but the iPod has been inside and does not even feel cold to the touch).
    I would update it to the new version, but it requires 50% power to do so, and I can't get enough power to it (even when it is plugged in for hours, it still doesn't show enough battery life).
    I have an appointment at the genius bar next week, but thought I would ask if anyone else is having this/these problem(s) and what they did to resolve the issue  Thanks.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
    Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.             
    If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem. I suspect a hardware problem because of the high temp warning.

    I would first recommend going through all of the steps in the articles below.

    If the issue persists or your device displays a connect to iTunes graphic, process the steps in article below. 
    Use recovery mode
    Recovery mode erases your device and restores it, which should resolve the issue. If you previously synced with iTunes or iCloud, you may be able to restore from your backup after recovery.
    Turn off your device. If you can't turn it off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time and wait a few seconds for it to turn off.
    Plug the device's USB cable into your computer only.
    Hold down the device's Home button as you connect the USB cable to it.
    When you see the Connect to iTunes screen, release the Home button. If you don't see this screen, try steps 1 through 3 one more time.
    iTunes should open and display a message such as: "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes."
    Use iTunes to restore your device.
    If you don't see your device in iTunes, follow these steps for Mac or these for Windows.

  • Hello, my ipod 4th gen shuffle is having a problem.

    When I pause mid song and then try to unpause it the thing skips back two songs. Then when I try to skip back a song it just pauses it, and when I try to press play or skip back again it goes back two songs. I will gie more infromation if you need it, but please help.

    If you use headphones with remote control buttons on the cord, try using a different set of standard headphones to see if it makes a difference.
    You can also try doing a Restore on the shuffle.  The Restore button is on the shuffle's Summary screen in iTunes.  This will erase the shuffle, re-install its software, and set it to default settings.  If data corruption of the shuffle's storage is the cause, a Restore should fix it.
    After the Restore, I would load a small number of songs as a test, to see if the problem recurs or not.  If it does not, sync it like normal.

    Try restoring from backup again. From the date of the backup would the photos have been in the backup?

    I am having trouble moving a video from iTunes on my PC to my iPod (4th gen). Is it a problem that it is in the "Home Videos" section? I go into the "Home Videos" sections and drag the video that I want so that the bar comes up, move it over to the device and let go. All that happens is it flashes a few times and then nothing. No error or anything.

    Does it freeze? Is so what is listed in the status bar of iTunes?

    Hi, I HATE to ask for help with this, but I HAVE looked everywhere and Google searched different wordings and have not found anything similar nor a solution to my problem!                                                                                                                                                                                                                               My good old iPod 4th-gen charges just fine in any wall outlet, in any house, but when I connect it to my brand new ASUS laptop that has Windows-8 and 3.0 USB ports using the charging/data cable, the charging process just keeps "blinking" BOTH the iPod and the laptop and it will not connect to ITunes and I get "A Device is Detected" message that keeps popping up and going away over and over right above the Windows desktop toolbar.                                                               When I go to control panel and select "Devices" it does show the iPod, but for only a split second and than it disappears, but than it comes back again for a split second and than it disappears again and just keeps doing that over and over and over!                                                                                                                  I have tried resetting the iPod while it is plugged into the laptop by holding the power and menu buttons, that did no good.                                                             I also tried uninstalling iTunes and any other Apple stuff listed and reinstalling it all, that did NOT work!                                                                                          The iPod, the laptop and iTunes ARE all fully updated!                                                                                                                                                                I AM using a brand new charging/data cable that I just opened up an hour ago (I've learned to keep a few brand new ones around at all times since these piece of garbage rip-off cables hardly last a week, even when you baby them!). I also tried a few old cables, they all do the same thing!                                                       I would like to get this piece of junk to connect to my new laptop, even if only once, so that I can change/delete some songs and transfer a few dozen photos,since I haven't been able to do any of that stuff since my old laptop (that NEVER had any problems connecting) died way back in May! lol.                                                                                                                                                                                                 I hope somebody knows a fix or solution!     Have you tried the standard fixes:
    - Reset:
    Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
    button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod from backup via iTunes
    - Restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod.
    If still problem you likely have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    I've just used my Pod Touch 4th gen iTunes backup to setup a new iPad Mini 1 but none of the apps were installed on the iPad mini. Only the default apps are installed.
    None of the photos from the camera roll were installed either, apart from a few 'screen shots' I have taken.
    iPod Touch is iOS 6.1.6 and the iPad mini is 8.1
    There was a warning advising that some of the apps in the iPod backup might not be compatible with the iPad.
    If it makes a difference, I'm using one Apple ID for the App store and another one for iCloud. When I was prompted for the Apple ID during setup on the Mini, I entered the iCloud ID.
    Interestingly, when I went into the App store on the Mini it showed the ID I use for that rather than the iCloud one, which seemed good.
    Is this what I should expect to happen in this situation or am I doing something wrong ?

    I've managed to get the apps loaded without having to do it manualy !! :-)
    It was a case of RTFM - I forgot to do a 'Sync' after restoring the 4G's iTunes backup into the iPad.
    Transfer content from an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a new device - Apple Support
    For some unknown reason, the Camera Roll images and Videos still weren't restored to the new device.
    This is not too much of an issue because I've exported them out of the 4G using the awesome 'Photo Sync' app. Despite it's name it actually does an 'export'and not a sync, which I think makes image management easier on the PC side

  • IPod 4th Gen problem with MMJ

    Can anyone help me out, i am trying to connect my iPod 4th Gen with MMJ ver. 9. Unfortuantly the old plugin does not work.
    I have always been a great Apple fan but i find it hard to believe that Apple would sacrifice is customers happiness with it's race to win the competition between iTunes for Windows and Musicmatch Jukebox.
    iTunes is a great program but it's it is severally lacking in regards to it's "Smart Playlist" which is a very very small compare-sent to the "AutoDJ" function in MMJ.
    Can anyone let me know if there is a plugin out there that would connect both together easily. I currently have to use Anapod Explorer to connect my iPod to MMJ.

    If the sleep/wake button is not working on your iPod nano, I suggest trying to restore it using iTunes. If the button still doesn't work after restoring, then you have isolated the problem to the iPod hardware itself.

  • Spotify on iPod 4th gen - car connectivity problem

    Hi, apologies if this is in the wrong place: (The low down) iPod 4th Gen - iOS (6.1.6)  When connecting via USB to 2013 Vauxhall Astra, the head unit displays song track / artist / how long the song has been playing for etc.  Problem: I am unable to change tracks (go back or forward) using the car controls. (on the steering wheel or the dash board)  I have got the latest version of Spotify and iOS available for the 4th gen iPod. As it is an iPod with WiFi connectivity only, I am playing songs that have been downloaded on the device.  the Apple iTunes player works perfectly with the car controls and this is the only reason why I have bought Spotify premium as I wanted to downloaded songs to listen offline and as I spend a majority of time the car, this is very important to me.  Has anyone experienced similar issues / know of any past solutions? 

    I havent come across the vehicle specific idea yet, but it's curious, what makes it different from vehicle to vehicle? As for the iPod idea, I went out and got a brand new iPod Touch 5, and its the same thing. For some reason, the controls will only change tracks in iTunes, and not Spotify. Im thinking that its only because the ipod/spotify app doesnt know how to read the instructions for the car itself.The most infuriating thing is, this used to work, then they upgraded the app in 2013, and something went haywire. I'm considering trying out the app, Music Control Plus, but I'm seeing that it might only be available on a jailbroken iPod, so that might take a bit to try out. Ill let you know how it goes!

    If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software.
