Ipod 4th gen touch wont sync right

Ive had this ipod for about a year, and a few months ago it stopped syncing right. What usually happens is this:
1: i press sync as would be expected of someone endevouring to sync ones ipod.
2:it starts the sync, which usually last about 20 seconds.
3: ill go to my music or photos and NOTHING has changed.
It syncs, but doesnt do ant chages at all, as if i never synced. anybody else have this problem? if so, any fixes? Ive already restored, it sybced every thing i had befor eback on it, but when i went to resync and change and add music it wouldn't.
Im on windows 7 btw.

If the sync process stops right at step one, which is backing up, iTunes can't read the latest backup in order to replace it with the new one.
You'll have to delete the latest backup in iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices to make iTunes create a new backup instead of replacing an old one.
Did you check your restriction settings on the ipod in Settings/General/Restrictions if there are any restrictions set?

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync or delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • My iPod 4th Gen will not sync Mp3s.

My iPod 4th gen won't allow mp3 files to be dragged into the bar and downloaded. I am using iTunes without signing to the same apple ID that the iPod is on, so maybe that has something to do with it, but my family member's iPod of the same generation works with the same circumstances. Please help.

Problem solved.  First I deleted synce back up, then deletedl sync history under preferences in iTunes.  Next, I went into the settings area of my iPod.  I renamed it with it's same name (in my case, Dominic's iPod).  I then rebooted the computer (Win 7).  When I logged into windows, it started syncing instantaneously.

  • IPod 3rd Gen 30gb wont sync with iTunes, but works fine and shows up in windows explorer

Hi, My sister-in-laws ipod classic 3rd gen ipod is being wierd. Therres a few problems. First and foremost when we plug it into her windows XP laptop and open the latest version of itunes, which we uninstalled and reinstalled the message "The software required for this ipod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall itunes to install the required software." which we allready did. I also did everything in this article http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363?viewlocale=en_US but when i selected the usbappl file as the driver it didnt reconize it as a driver. I also ran itunes dianostics and restarted the apple mobile device service and fixed all other issues. The ipod shows up fine in the windows explorer any help is appreciated.

That is a 4th gen iPod, and it should work with a USB port (or a FireWire port).
If you have not done a standard Restore on the iPod using iTunes, you may want to do that next.  The Restore button is on the iPod's Summary screen in iTunes.  This will erase the iPod, re-install its software, and set it to default settings.  So, if the cause is related to software (or data corruption), and there is no hardware issue, a Restore should fix it.
WARNING:  The 4th gen iPod (when used on a USB port) will ask that you connect it to a USB power adapter as the last step in the Restore process.  These white square power adapters originally came with this model.  If you don't have an Apple USB power adapter, you will not be able to complete the Restore, and the iPod will become non-functional.  So don't do it unless you have one.  A third-party power adapter may or may not work for this purpose.  The USB port on your computer does not work for this purpose.

My daughter locked herself out of her ipod and when I try to connect it to my iTunes it will not connect HELP!!!

Place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore. For recovery mode see:

The iPod will be erased.  You can sync your stuff to the iPod.  Or she can connect to her computer and restore from her backup.

  • Happy New Year and help Please!!! IPOD 4th GEN won't Synch??

    Hello,
And, thanks for reading my question. I recently purchased an IPOD 4th GEN touch from Gamestop. I previously had an ipod that was stolen a few years ago. I had 2000 songs on my itunes and just haven't used it till now.
When I bought the IPOD I ensured that my itunes and ipod were using the most current software. However, it is not synching my music. It will let me start to synch and then go through steps 1&2 of a five step process before it tells me that itunes has encountered a problem and must shut down. There is no specific code it gives me it just asks whether I'd like to send an error report or not.
I have ensured my firewall was off. I restarted the IPOD and computer, and still nothing. Same error message and itunes shuts off. I have installed the latest updates to bonjour and quicktime, restarted, and still no remedy.
I was tempted to uninstall everything but am afraid of losing my music. Only 30-40 songs are in my icloud. I imported the other songs to itunes a long time ago.
Does anyone know how I can get these songs on my ipod? Thanks in advance for any help and Happy New Year to all...

You probably need to set up automatic syncing.  If you do not set it up, it will still "sync" but it will sync nothing.
In iTunes 12, select the iPod so that you see its Summary settings screen (click the "device button" on horizontal bar).  In the iPod's sidebar, under Settings, click Music.  To the right is the iPod's Music settings screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync your iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music.  This enables automatic syncing for songs.  Below that, if your entire iTunes library fits on your iPod, you can choose the option to sync Entire music library.
Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Then, select what you want to sync from the lists below.  On convenient way to set this up is to create one or more playlists in your iTunes library with songs just for the iPod.  Or you can use existing playlists.  On the iPod's Music settings screen, find and select (checkmark) just those playlists under Playlists.
When you click Apply, iTunes syncs your iPod with your selection(s) on the iPod's Music settings screen, and keeps it "in sync" automatically.

  • My ipod touch (4th gen) won't sync with itunes, OSX

My 8gb ipod touch (4th gen) won't sync with itunes. Running itunes 11.4 on OSX 10.6.8
My touch was running fine until one day I found about 3gb occupied by 'other' space. I ended up restoring my ipod which took care of the problem, but created a new one in that the ipod will no longer sync anything from my itunes library. I have music set up to sync selected artists, and when I click the checkboxes to select my albums and artists to sync, the 'audio' bar fills up.
When I click 'apply', the 'starting sync' and progress bar pop up for like half a second then disappear. Same goes with photos, apps, podcasts, etc.

  • My ipod touch(4th gen)no longer syncs to itunes 10.7 via USB

My ipod touch(4th gen)no longer syncs to itunes 10.7 via usb. i knew it didn't work via wifi with the new updates but this is too far. i can't see it in itunes at all anymore. i restarted my ipod already still with no results. the only thing i did is create and delete playlist from the ippd and deleted others from itunes as well. i've done it before but this time i assume it's led to this. any suggestions?

Disregard. It seems i just needed to install an optional update with windows update. either that or just restart my computer instead of my ipod. silly me.

  • IPod touch 4th gen that wont charge or show up in itunes.

I have an iPod touch 4th gen. that wont charge. When I plug it in, it shows the battery with a little red at the one end and a lighting bolt ( the usual screen when charing the itouch after it is completely dead). I have left it in pluged in for a few hours but it never actually charges. Also when I plug it into my computer Itune won't recongnize it. The cords work fine I tested them with my other Ipods and everything worked liked normal. I have tried to restart it by holding the power and home button together but that doesn't seem to help either (again probably because it is dead). Thanks for the help.

    - See:

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
