Ipod 4th or 5th gen only plays music out loud even with headphones in

So recently my Ipod decided that it only wanted to play music as if there weren't any headphones in it even though i had headphones plugged in. Any ideas or suggestions would be awesome.

- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
- Check also Settings > General > Accessibility > Hearing. Make sure that the sound balance is not set all the way to "R".
- Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

Nano plays music out loud even when ear buds are plugged in? its like the external speaker is always on, i cannot figure out how to turn it off....HELP SOMEONE

You don't have to shout - typing in caps.
The earphones must be pushed very hard into the iPod. So hard, that the white part of the plug must touch the iPod in order for the external speakers to turn off. You will hear a click.

If you do a forum search, you will find this same solution. If it does not work, you will need to take your iPod to an apple store or call the Apple iPod tech support if still under warranty or you have Apple Care.

If you mean the headphones work but the speaker does not:

If not under warranty Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

Although you say you have let the battery drain, was it for long enough? Since nothing else that you've tried so far has worked, I suggest that you leave the iPod unplugged for at least four days, preferably a week. That way, if something is stopping the iPod from turning the screen on, then whatever it is will drain the battrey. However, since the screen isn't on, that may take longer than if the screen was on.
Then, after that time, plug the iPod into a power source and leave it alone for at least thirty minutes. Only after thirty minutes will it show any signs of life, but you should leave it until it is fully charged before trying to use it.
If you get to this stage, the fact that the battery has drained will cause the iPod to reset when it springs back to life.
Let us know how you get on.

  • The volume on my iPhone 5c is really low when playing music out loud.

When I am playing music out loud it is far too quiet. It is actually louder when I put headphones in without putting them in my hear than when I just play music out loud. What could be wrong? It's really annoying me.

    Hello, asialeighx.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand you are experiencing an issue with the sound volume on your iPhone speakers.  Here are some troubleshooting steps that I would go through for this issue.
If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker

  • X6 will not play music out loud when i use music p...

    Hi
i was wondering if anyone could help me , ive just got a nokia x6 as a upgrade , i myself have a blackberry so i gave this to my dad however being parents do not know what there doing with a touch screen phone, this x6 will not play music out loud through the speakers , could he have changed anything on the phone ?? he told me this once and i tryed it and it worked but i have recently tryed the phone again and now the music will not play out loud through the speakers can anyone help?????

@steve_p: The point I am trying to make is your statement that the X6 has an annoying bug where the music player goes to near silent through the loud speakers. Just because it affects some phones but not all does not mean it is a bug. If it was a bug it would affect all phones not just some...
I do NOT agree with your logic at all. According to your reasoning every single X6 on the planet has to suffer a particular issue before that problem can then be termed a 'bug'. Taking that arguement to its ultimate conclusion you would state that the X6 has never suffered any bugs what-so-ever. I'm sorry I do NOT agree. I note you live in Australia, a totally different market from UK where I happen to be, as chanchan has stated there are hundreds of different product codes that cover just the X6 let alone the different hardware platforms RM559 & RM551 plus the 3 different mass storage sizes I mentioned above. Different batches of handsets and different market areas can suffer from different issues that won't necessarily be the same. I would class a bug as an issue that affects more than 1 person or a handful of people. Let's agree to disagree eh?

... The problem could be caused by a number of factors which are to numerous to mention here...
    Agreed. Hence my comments above.

... All I am saying is you do not want to tell people the phone has a bug unless you have proof to back up your statement or you lose your credibility...
I'm here to help people. If someone has an issue with their Nokia phone that I have had experience with or that I have found a solution to then I will help if I can. I don't have to justify myself to you by providing documented evidence and digging up proofs. Again I don't really care about my credibility to you either... people can see my full post history all the way back to 2005 when I first joined and they can judge for themselves if I my advice is worth taking, or not.

There you go again!!! You know it's funny that in my 5 years of posting on this forum only one person has had problems with the factual accuracies of my posts... You! Please enlighten me by way of PM to my past misdemeanours and I will happily discuss them with you, again via PM, I think this poor thread has been spammed to death as it stands. Can I also please ask that in the future if you have any problems with my posts and you think that I am deliberately trying to mislead or post falsehoods that you notify a moderator, or contact me via PM. Quite frankly, I don't like your tone or attacking nature and I don't like being typecast as a liar or worse an uninformed idiot and I'll thank you not to point accusations my way again. If, however, you have another point of view to my own and can put that down in a civil way then I'll happily respond. I will leave it there for now and I will do my best not to post in this thread again, unless to give further help to the original poster.

Clean iPhone charging port with clean dry toothbrush. See if fixed. If not, and if there is Warranty or AppleCare make Genius reservation and take to Apple for resolution. If no coverage, clean again, very well with toothbrush and small amount of Isopropyl Alcohol.

  • IPod 5th Gen Only play SMALL FILES? : (

I Have heard from some people and seen on the forum that the new 5th gen.'s only play very small sized files. Does this mean i cant watch movies that are say...an hour long?
Is this rumor fact or fiction? PLEASE RESPOND

Does your audio cut out at all on your Matrix Reloaded? I've tried to covert it a few times and every time this movie has had issues. About every two minutes the audio cuts out. If I restart the video it starts up again but will cut out again a few minutes later. The video is perfect and plays flawlessly on quicktime but my iPod has issues with it. When I asked Apple support they said it could be a scratched hardrive but I can put several copies on my iPod and they all cut out at the exact same spot. Any suggestions?

  • TS1630 My phone will not ring for calls or text messages. It also will not play music out loud.

My phone will not ring for messages or texts. It also will not play music outloud. I know it's not the speakers because it does make noise when I type in my password and sometimes when I am in the settings for the ringtone. It will not make the message sounds in settings. With headphones it makes noise. I don't know what to do and I've tried all the settings. Has this happened to anyone else? The silence key on the side is off. I've tried restarting it, but it does not work. Sometimes it will make noise when I am typing, but only a few times. I haven't dropped it and I have an otterbox, so I don't know what would cause it to do this...?

Everyone you are way over thinking this as did i at first. My wife had the same issue. there is i switch right above the volume button as demonstrated  on this link. its designed for lets say you into a class or meeting you can switch the phone to silent quck and easy.

  • Shuffle only plays music out of right earphone.

I have had my Ipod Shuffle 2nd generation for years with no problems. I have always used aftermarket earphones with no problems. Then suddenly one day the left side stopped working. Naturally I thought I needed new earphones. Not at all...I bought new ones and had the same exact issue. So...then I thought I needed a new Ipod. I bought the Shuffle 4th gen. The SAME thing happens with this new one. I tried both sets of earphones and only the right side works...not a peep out of the left side. What in the world is going on??

I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. My iPod and my sony earbuds had lasted me for years, but in a two-day period, both my sonys and my backup pair of knock-offs stopped functioning properly. I looked around online, and found that it's caused by the wiring and inner components in the left earbud getting worn out because it's the one that carries the bass as well as the melody. You really have only two options: 1) you can get instructions on how to take apart the earbud and possibly find the broken part, but most likely not be able to fix it, or 2) you can just get one more pair of headphones. Nothing expensive, but not too cheap—I've found that around the 14 dollar range seems to last a long time. Hope this helped.

  • My ipod no longer plays music out loud.. why?

I dropped my ipod and when i picked it up and tried to play my music it didnt make a sound. And it doesn't register if i unplug my headphones when it's supposed to pause the song.. It now does nothing. It just keeps playing minus the song.. help!

What do you expect? You might have damaged something from the drop. Go to Apple to have it checked. They could fix it for you.

  • Internal speaker will not play music out loud

i need help. I can not figure out how to get my music to play through the internal speaker on my ipod touch. i have tried going to (1) settings, then (2) general, then (3) sound effects and then i have tried choosing "speaker" & also "both" (headphones & speaker). then when i go back & make sure the music is playing it is, but there is no sound coming from the ipod speaker. i can hear it through the headphones just fine, its just the speaker that does not seem to be working. i went to alarm to see if any sound comes through the speaker when the alarm goes off & it does. so whats the deal? how do i get my music to play through the speaker? any ideas???

Well, a big part of the problem could be that the Touch doesn't have an internal speaker. The alarm noises are made by a transducer, not a speaker. In order to listen to music without headphones, you'd need to buy external speakers.
