  • Why aren't all the songs on my iPod available to play?

While all the music I want from iTunes is on my iPod, not all of the songs are available to play.

To be of any assistant for us to help, we need more info.
What is your iPod firmware version? (1.1.2 or 2.0.4)
Those no-play songs are they of the same format as the good iPod playable songs?
When you sync these no-play songs, does iTunes gives any message?
Note that some songs, can be played in iTunes but not on most iPod classic, with the exception of late 2009 model which has a firmware version 2.0.4.
    Have a nice day!

  • Huge mismatch between iPod 'available' space and iTunes 'free space'

My iPod Nano reports (using the About menu):
    Capacity = 3.7 GB
    Available = 1.8 GB
which feels about right (430 songs loaded). However, when plugged into iTunes for Windows 6.0.2, iTunes says about this iPod:
    Used = 3.64 GB
    Free = 95 MB
and won't let me load any more music onto the iPod beyond what it "thinks" is the free capacity. What gives???
    Thanks, all!

C17, welcome to discussions! The only way to resolve a capacity conflict like the one you seem to be having with your Nano/iTunes is to restore the Nano. The following link will give you complete instructions.

  • Brand New 8Gb iPod: Available Space = 7.43Gb

I just plugged in my brand new iPod, supposedly with 8Gb of memory available. Now I understand if some memory is chewed up by software/firmware etc, and that some 'rounding errors' show up with memory scaling. However, I find it hard to believe that there is over 500Mb 'missing' from the iPod. That's 7.125% loss of space, 7.43Gb out of 8.00Gb.
So my question overall is... is this normal and expected, or do I have a particulary unhappy set of flash memory? Are there any steps that should be taken, or is this a 'just eat it and be happy' kind of thing?
    Thanks for the help,
    -R

    It's normal.
The OS accounts for a few mbs of storage space.
It's the way that storage space is calculated by manufacturers, and the way that computers read it differently.
Read this. Although it refers to hard drives (and the nano has flash memory), the calculations are the same, and that accounts for the so called "missing space". The decimal/binary difference affects all types of storage including both hard drives and flash memory.
iPod: About the hard disk size.
Hard disk: Is it missing space?
This is the excellent explanation by forum member Rich Fleming.
<quote> "The Flash in the Nano needs to emulate a hard disk, so that any computer it is attached to sees it as a valid storage device.
When you are using a DoM type of storage system, the Flash memory will behave exactly like a hard drive, and is subject to the exact same Binary vs Decimal discrepancy in the capacity measurements.
A 4GB Nano is 4 billion bytes (decimal 4,000,000,000) of storage... according to the operating system. This is because the operating system doesn't see it as a Flash memory. It sees it as an actual hard drive.
As such, 4 billion bytes to the operating system is reported as about 3.7GB of storage because of the decimal-to-binary conversion." <end of quote>

  • Mac OS 10.1.5 w/ old iTunes... iPod available?

Is there any version of an iPod that will work with my older system and older iTunes?
I'm traveling overseas in November and want to take some music with me.
Also, would it be possible to copy my iTunes files to CD and transfer them to my brother's PC, then add them to my own iPod? He has his own iPod but says it would be hard to transfer only my songs over - which I think is a load of bull but I don't have an iPod...
Any help would be much appreciated! I don't know if the next OS is coming out in time for me to make the switch!
    Thanks so much!!!

The first, second, and third generation iPods will work with Mac OS X 10.15, as will the original iPod minis.

  • Any More Games for the Ipod Available?

Is there anywhere at which I could download more games for the Ipod? I'm kind of doubting there is just because the click wheel probably isn't best used as a game controller, but anyway, I'm curious. Oh yeah, if there are any games, I want to make sure they're secure, I don't want them to mess up my Ipod simply because they were made of poor quality.

You can install text-based games that are played through the iPod's notes feature without voiding the warranty.

  • Cant see songs on my ipod. please help.

Hello to all reading this, and thank you for lending me your time. first: please note that i did do all that i can (restoring, updating, formating, reseting, checking the discussions for s solution, asking friends, and so on) before handing my problem to the forum & my ipod is up-to-date with the latest version 1.4.1. Now, let me get straight to the point:
    1) A couple of weeks ago i updated my iTunes to the latest version (i think it was version 7 or 7.1, not completely sure). Everything was working fine, everything was going great but after a couple of days something that i have never seen before appeared, the most horrible message i have ever received from a software before popped infront of my eyes as my iTunes opened, "...your ipod appears to be corrupt...". At first i didnt take it seriously because i thought a little restoring and reconnecting will solve the problem but i was sooo wrong. I did all that i could have done, reconnect, restore, update, format, "chk" the "dsk" if you know what im saying. succesfully that problem was over when i succesfully fixed it after a series of different tries, everyday!
    2) By fixing the first problem i thought, "oh, now all i gotta do is just sync all my songs again and start doing what i do best, listen to my music, full time!". Again, i was wrong. So i left my ipod to sync all my songs then came back to it after a while with a joyful "ipod update complete" message infront of my face. And as i checked on my ipod on the sources list it was true, all my songs were on my ipod, then i also checked in the ipod itself via "My Computer" and found a series of some coded and some recognizable songs on it. When i disconnected my ipod though, the apple logo appeared and keeps on appearing as if i have reseted it and when i browse the ipod, i donnot see anything, it appears completely song free when iTunes says i am currently using 2.90 GB of my 3.77 GB with a list of all the songs on my ipod available and 45 MB of other, also windows says that 2.93 GB is used from my ipod. When i check the information on the "About" located in my ipod, it tells me that i have 0 songs, 87.3 MB capacity and 169 MB available.
    * please help me if you can, i will be very thankful because this problem has been driving me craaazy! i actually sit on the computer and try to fix it for a long time. oh, and my warranty = finished!

The songs being "greyed out" indicate that your Nano is set to autosync with iTunes. If you wish to remain on autosync, then you will have to delete from iTunes first, then re-sync your Nano. If you wish to maintain the files in iTunes, then you will have to change your iPod preferences to manually manage.

  • How do I get the iPod icon to appear in iTunes without unplugging..

When I first plug my iPod Nano in and open iTunes, my iPod shows up in devices. I sometimes accidentally click the iPod icon, disconnecting the iPod.
Is there a way to reconnect without doing it manually? What I mean is, without unplugging and then plugging back in?

Not sure if this works because I don't have my iPod plugged in right now. If you go to the File menu in iTunes, is the "sync iPod" available or is it greyed out? If it's available, I would think that clicking it would bring the iPod back into the iTunes source window.
Again, not sure without having mine plugged in to check.

  • Any way to manage disappearing iPod HD space?

Does iTunes reduce the amount of available iPod hard drive space through automatic updates of the Recently Played playlist?
    (1) I've noticed my iPod available hard disk space reduce by 0.01 GB each time I automatically update. This is on a per song basis. So if 50 songs are tagged through an update of Recently Played Songs, the total seeming deduction in iPod HD space is approximately 0.5 GB. That seems like a lot for very tiny changes.
    (2) I've also noticed that since I upgraded to iTunes 6, the songs I recently played in shuffle (either on iTunes or the iPod) are tagged for updates (I'm guessing this is going into the Recently Played playlist). And when they are tagged and the update occurs, the available iPod hard disk reduces by 0.01 GB per song.
    (3) I have a 40 GB iPod photo. I'm wondering if this count in the reduction of available iPod hard disk space will continue, and what will happen when I reach the maximum available space - Will I no longer be able to update my iPod?
    (4) I've also noticed this phenomenon (the reduction in available hard disk space) when I, for example, adjust volume settings on songs....it reduces available space by 0.01 GB per song.
On a side note...I don't think I've ever seen my iPod available hard disk space ever be restored? Does iTunes keep a record, does it record, does it therefore save all changes (taking up space) as a history of changes?
    Please help. Thank you.
[I have a 40GB iPod photo, using on Windows.]

Only by purchasing a 64 Gb one. They can't be upgraded.

  • Annoyed at Apple's lack of iPod support

Hi guys, expecting this topic to be deleted....
I bought a first-gen iMac (the lamp design), top model when it was first released in the UK, ever since that I've been an Apple devotee. However, over the past few years I've gone through 6 iPods (2 Minis, 2 Shuffles, 1 3rd gen 1 nano), all of them having died from battery problems or from other issues outside of the warranty. I consider this to be hugely bad-practice, for the amount I've spent on faulty products (they've lasted a tiny amount of time), I could have pretty much bought the entire range of iPods available now.
When I phoned Apple Support to ask if they'd refund the amount i paid for my Nano (which has also broken now), or waive the cost of repair I was transferred and then cut off, pretty much represents my continued dealings with Apple I guess.... I've seen the announcements for the new Apple products and was tempted by a 160GB Classic but after the grief and problems I've had over the past few years with iPod products I'm staying well away, the battery, the product itself and the dire customer service just aren't worth bothering with. Am I alone with all these problems or has anyone else had similar issues with iPods and Apple's service here in the UK?

    You are alone.

  • Upgrading from iPod to iPhone

I apologize for asking, 'cause I'm sure this question has been asked before, possibly many times - but my wife has a 30GB iPod and I'm trying to get her to upgrade to an iPhone. She's using about 7.5 GB of her iPod so I assume I'd have to get her the 16GB iPhone?
If she does, will the software keep her iPod contacts and tunes, etc.? What would be the best way to approach this so she doesn't lose what she has in the iPod version of iTunes she's currently running? Can I just go ahead and run the "check for updates" and put iTunes 8.0.2 on it?
    Message was edited by: pablops

If she wants everything that is currently available on her iPod available on her iPhone, she needs a 16GB iPhone.
You can sync multiple iPods and/or iPhones with the same iTunes library, and with the supported applications on your computer. Which address book application on her computer is she using for transferring contact info to her iPhone via the iTunes sync process? If supported for syncing contact info with an iPhone, she can use the same address book application on her computer to sync contact info with her iPhone.
Installing an iTunes update on your computer does not affect iTunes content - which is stored completely separate from the application.

  • Next Generation iPods

I was just wondering if anyone had heard if or when Apple will be coming out with a Bluetooth iPod. It just seems like that is the next step that iPods should go in.

Nobody here knows until Apple announces it. There are bluetooth adapters for iPods available.

  • Computer trouble or ipod trouble?

my ipod mini will not let me download new songs to it. Its library is on another computer and I want to switch it to my new laptop. The computer wont recgonize it. When I plugged in my dads it worked and asked if i wanted to change librarys. It never came up for this one. I want tokeep all the songs on my ipod without having to reset it and somehow send them to my new itunes library. is that possible?

On your old computer there should be an iTunes folder with all your audio files within it, just copy the whole folder (or in parts if it is bigger then your iPods size) by drag and drop to your iPod (enabled disk use) you can make all of the iPod available by manually managing content and erasing it so you can copy large amounts of files over at a time.
Once on the new computer make a folder on desktop and drag all the files to that, then in iTunes select Add to library or import and choose that folder and all your songs should go into itunes.

  • I got my ipod touch wet.

I was walking and got stuck in the rain and had my ipod in my pocket.
When i got hom i dried it off and let it dry for a couple days before using it.
Shortly after using it, it turned off without me pressing anything.
The screen flashes on and off and the slide to turn off ipod thing pops up all the time.
I dont really know what to do.

You can also check your local retailers if you wanted to get it immediately rather than ordering. I purchased mine at my local Best Buy even though if you check online the site tells you they are not available at stores. I called and was told they had all of the new iPods available.

  • ITALK FOR 5TH GEN IPOD? or similar?

    Hi,
I used a Griffin iTalk for voice recording with my 3rd Gen Ipod and now I just bought a 5th gen Ipod (30g) and obviously the iTalk doesnt work. Is there a voice recording accessory for the new 5th gen Ipod available somewhere on the market?
    Thank You
    Jadee

Currently no. Several manufacturers have advertised forthcoming voice recorders for the 5th gen, but so far there are none on the market.

  • Instructions for adding 2nd ipod?

Where can I find installation instructions for adding a new 60gig video ipod to my Windows computer. I have iTunes and an old 10 gig ipod already. I have looked thru the forum and here are my questions:
Do I install the software that came with the new ipod?
(Will it overwrite my old ipod software as I want to continue to use that too..same computer)
Should I use the dock for my old ipod and plug the new one into the USB port?
Can someone direct me to instructions anywhere?
    Thanks
    Sony VAIO   Windows XP Pro

Do I install the software that came with the new ipod?
Only if that software is newer than the version of the iPod software and iTunes you already have installed.
(Will it overwrite my old ipod software as I want to continue to use that too..same computer)
No. Each version of the iPod software supports all iPods available as of the time it was released.
Can someone direct me to instructions anywhere?
To transfer different songs to each iPod, use the instructions in this article.
