IPod 5 keeps adding "other" and using storage space

Is this an Apple bug in 8.1.2? When will the problem be addressed? I am not alone with this problem. Many, many others have the same problem. Come on! Get this fixed. Do they even monitor problems from the community? Or are we just left to try everything to fix this?????

It's never clear if Apple monitor these threads, instead of complaining to other users who can do nothing to help you contact Apple, try telling Apple directly…
http://apple.com/feedback/
If you want some actual help please post information on what you have actually tried. Erasing & restoring from a backup seems to recover a lot of 'other' space in my experience.
It happens on many older iOS versions too, so no it isn't an 8.1.2 bug.

i have nothing on this macbook air just iPhoto and iTunes and the error startup dic full message keeps coming up and the storage is full of other i don't know what to do.how do i delete all of this?

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
To locate large files, you can use Spotlight as described here. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can also use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

If it is a lightning to 30 pin adaptor, and you have a 7th Generation Nano it has to fit the Nano.
This is lightning to 30 pin adapter: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Apple%26%23174%3B---Lightning-to-30-Pin-Adapter/6651 936.p?id=1218803450821&skuId=6651936#tab=overview
    Is this what you bought?
You need to contact Sony and see if they model you have is compatible with the docking adapter. It may not be.

hi Mmm ive been told that installing linux on mac book pro retina 15 and even others and using it as my first sofware will make the mac heaqt up and burn from inside!!!!! true??????????

    Hi shldr2thewheel,
it has been a while since we have last spoke, I would like to let you know, I am still working on getting used to the switch from windows to a Mac/Apple system. I do have a new question for you, I did purchase In Design CS5.5 through journeyed.com through Cuyahoga Community College of which I attend as a student, is there a way to purchase an online book through iTunes to learn that as well? Also, you know me, the struggling student, I would also, when and if the book can be purchased through the iTunes, would need to know if you do know of a much easier book for struggling students like myself and at a reasonable price as well for the In Design CS5.5 program. Our campus bookstore had closed early, and, so did the colleges library and our local library here where I do live, so, I cannot go to either place to purchase a book or to take out a book, plus cash funds are low at this moment as well but, I do have money left on the iTunes account to use, if it can be used. So, can it be used, the iTunes money, towards finding a low priced online book? I am in great need of assistance as I have a project due for my one course for this Tuesday, September 4, 2012.
Sincerely in need of help once again,
    Kim

  • Does photo stream use storage space on iPhone?

Mine came with 13.5 GB, am down to 6.2 available, also, if i transfered all of my iphone photos to my photo library on my mac,it should be safe to delete them on phone's camera roll and steam, right? I want to delete them because my photo stream is a replica of my camera roll, and if it is using storage space on phone, well that's just a waste of space.

if i transfered all of my iphone photos to my photo library on my mac,it should be safe to delete them on phone's camera roll and steam, right?
Yes. Both iPhoto and Image Capture include an option to delete photos/videos from the iPhone's Camera Roll after the import process is complete as with any other digital camera.
If you don't have another iOS device and you aren't interested in making use of the iPhoto option on your Mac to automatically import photos from your Photo Stream so you don't have to do this manually, you don't need Photo Stream enabled. Be sure to import from the Camera Roll often and/or back up your iPhone regularly without having Photo Stream enabled.

  • What's the other on my storage space

What's the other on my storage space? it's taking up 40 GB

It's everything that doesn't fit into the other categories. 27 GBs is OS X. Depending on how much memory is installed there is a file of that size used for the sleepimage. Then there are all your mail messages, document files, and data files that make up the rest.

  • Set up RAID0 in Windows 8 - use "Storage Spaces"?

I just finished a successful clean-install of windows 8 on my media machine (Asus X79WS, GeForce 570, OS on SSD, 4x1TB WD Black HDDs on the Intel Ports). I created a 4-disk raid0 in BIOS which shows up in Device Mgr. In looking thru Windows 8 to find where to initialize the HDs, I stumbled across something called "Storage Spaces" which appears to be a Windows version of RAID1.
Would using "Storage Spaces" allow the use of WD Black drives in a parity raid??
Is there any advantage in using "Storage Spaces" over using the BIOS RAID0??
    Thanks,
    Dorothy

I did a little digging on the internet and found that the performance of the WIndows 8 Storage Space is "beyond poor" so I'm going back to my original RAID0.

  • IPad showing photos in about settings and using gb space despite being deleted

iPad showing photos in about settings and using gb space despite being deleted

And it is not Photo Stream photos that you are seeing reflected?
Try resetting your device(nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Slide to Unlock screen redisplays, see if the issue is resolved.
If it isn't try syncing with iTunes on the computer you sync with, and uncheck "Sync Photos". See if that clears it up. If it does, then re-sync the photos that you want.

  • How do I get songs from iPod(video) to iTunes(7 and using VISTA).

How do I get songs from iPod(video) to iTunes(i'm using iTunes7 and Vista).
I don't have the disc, cause i can't find it. But my computer downloaded the ipod, it just cant find the files?
i've been looking through the topics for the past hour and none of them helped. Maybe i'm stupid i dont really know, but i've restored my old computer a couple times and i found a post and it helped both times. now i can't find it anymore.
THIS IS THE ONE I'VE BEEN SEEING AND IT DOESN'T HELP ME ONE BIT:
Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only

    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.
Can someone give me a link, or tell me one that shows step by step.

Here is a way of doing it, for another take on this, search the forum for posts by Zevoneer.
    Copy from iPod to PC
It is important not to allow your iPod to sync with an empty library. If it is set to synchronise automatically you will get a message saying your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to sync – it is important to press cancel as syncing with an empty library erases all music from your iPod.
You can also prevent auto sync by holding down shift & ctrl as you plug in your iPod and keeping the keys held down until the iPod appears in iTunes.
Once you are connected, you need to set your iPod to manage music manually.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61148
If you have an iPod with iTunes Store purchases on it, you can use it to copy your purchases to other authorized computers.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/7.3/en/2586win.html
However this is not allowed for other music.
This MacMuse tip tells you how to copy music from your iPod using Windows Explorer, but it is a bit fiddly:
    http://discussions.apple.com/messageview.jspa?messageID=797432
Otherwise you can use third party software to manage the transfer, there are a variety of programs out there, some free and some that will copy ratings and counts as well as the music files. Here is a selection, check them out and see what suits you.

  • While restoring the factory settings on my 7th gen iPod classic, my computer blue-screened. Now, my iPod just keeps continually restarting and cannot be recognized by my computer or iTunes.

Is there a way I can make my iPod stop restarting and be recognized by my computer so I can continue to use it?

    Hello GraceSchaff
Try putting your iPod Classic into Disk Mode and then in iTunes click restore when it shows up to take care of that process again.

  • Safari keeps adding BookmarksBar and BookmarksMenu folders

When I show my Bookmarks in Safari, I have the standard Bookmarks Bar, Bookmarks Menu, Address Book, Bonjour, History, All RSS Feeds...but under the RSS Feeds folder, Safari keeps creating additional folders called BookmarksBar and BookmarksMenu. I'll delete the newly created folders, but an hour or two later, several more folders have been created with the titles BookmarksBar and BookmarksMenu (no space after the word Bookmarks). At one point I had 10 of each of folder.
Any thougts as to why Safari keeps creating the folders?

I'm experiencing this too. Do you use Sync under Mac OS 10.4.6 and/or iSync under Mac OS 10.3.9 to synchronize your bookmarks via .Mac? I do, and I'm wondering if it's Safari or a problem with the synching process. Anyone else out there running into this? Please take a peek at your bookmarks and let us know if you are.
