Ipod 5 not recognised by windows or Itunes, no drivers found in devmgmt.msc

Hello there.
My Ipod 5th Gen is having problems. When I try to connect it to my windows 8 laptop I get nothing. Not even an "unrecognised device" message. I am guessing there is no driver to process it, or something like that. All my other USB devices are working.
I have tried all the ideas listed on the support. when I take a screenshot and try to find it as a camera, nothing appears. There is no "portable devices" section, no "other devices" section. It is completely unresponsive.
I have no conflicting software, and everything has been reinstalled, including AMDS.
Here is a screenshot of my Devmgmt.msc:
thanks In advance.

However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components

iPod not recognised by windows 8 computer.
After I recently updated iTunes I plugged my iPod Touch 4th Gen into my windows 8 desktop.
It was not recognised as an iPod by iTunes, only as a storage device in MS Windows.
After much searching I identified the problem was there was no apple mobile device USB driver installed.
    I searched for … devmgmt.msc
    Which opened the Device Manager
In Device Manager, under Portable devices, the Apple iPod should have been listed. It wasn’t.
So I Right Clicked on ‘Apple iPod’ and left clicked on ‘Update Driver Software’.
Then ‘Browse my computer for driver software’.
Browsed to this location … Windows (C) / Program files / Common Files / Apple / Mobile Device Support / Drivers /
    And then clicked on ‘usbaapl64’
It installed the Apple mobile device USB Driver, as it should have done already, when I recently updated iTunes.
Could someone check the above to see if I have described the problem and the solution correctly.
    Thanks. Chris KV

OK, update to try to provide a clearer description of the problem and solution that worked for me.
    Problem.
After I recently updated iTunes I plugged my iPod Touch 4th Gen into my windows 8 desktop. It was not recognised as an iPod by iTunes, only as a storage device in MS Windows. After much searching I identified that there was no Apple Mobile Device USB driver installed. Without the driver Windows did not recognise the Apple iPod when connected via USB.
    Solution.
I needed to use the Windows Device Manager, so I searched for … devmgmt.msc (You need to include the .msc) and clicked on it, which opened the Device Manager in a new window.
In Device Manager, under Portable devices, the Apple iPod should have been listed. It wasn’t.
So I Right Clicked on: ‘Apple iPod’ and left clicked on: ‘Update Driver Software’.
Then clicked on: ‘Browse my computer for driver software’.
Then clicked on browse and drilled down to the following location on my hard drive:
    C:\Program files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers /
    And then clicked on ‘usbaapl64’
This installed the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver.
Now Windows recognises my iPod again.
PS. I can’t remember if I had to restart the computer once the device driver was installed. But if the above doesn’t work for you, then at the end, try restarting to see if that finishes the installation of the device driver. Good luck

  • Shuffle is not recognised by Windows or iTunes on first installation

    Hi
Just got an Ipod shuffle, which was marked down in price due to missing ear phones. Tried the installation software but when asked to connect shuffle to check to see if it needs formating did so, and the shuffle is not recognised by windows or the installer software.
Tried to go through apple chat, but when prompted for S/N it says that my shuffle was registered in Aug 2005 and not valid for chat support anymore. I suspect that the shuffle is returned goods and that it may already be registered to another user. Would this stop my computer recognising it?
Have downloaded updater and run that, same result.
    OS is Windows XP Pro
    USB port confirmed working
    Itunes 6.0.4.2
Ipod Nano running okay on same machine.
Ipod Shuffle is only showing constant green light when plugged into USB port (showing that it is at least getting power)
Any ideas, there seem to be similar threads to this so is it a common problem.
    thanks

can someone please help me or has any one had the same problem? thanks

can i put it into disk mode if the computer doesnt recognise it at all?
    Yes, you can.
"Putting your iPod into disk mode" is simply a process that involves pressing a few buttons on your iPod, getting it into Disk Mode.
To put your iPod into Disk Mode, follow the steps in this article -> Putting your iPod into Disk Mode
As Bryan said, see if the iPod is recognized by your computer when it's in disk mode.

  • 5th Gen Ipod not recognized by windows or itunes. Have tried it all. Any Ideas?

Hello everyone. I have a 5th generation Ipod I recently purchased that I'm having what seems to be an common issue. When I connect the ipod to my computer via USB, the Ipod is not recognized in windows or Itunes. Occasionally the Ipod will charge when connected but not always. Though this is the same for the old wire I used and the new one I purchased today. Even when shown charging the Ipod is not recognized and there is no noise that a device has been connected. I have tried the 4 R's (without Restore) which I can't do, chaninging the drive letter, disabling start up software, uninstalling and reinstalling all Apple Software. I have tried connecting to another computer and have gotten the same result. When I check the diagnostic screen on the ipod it shows that a usb cable is detected. I have upgraded all my driver software, disabled and reenabled them. I'm almost 3 hours from the nearest store so that it out of the question. I'm curious if anyone has any other ideas and will try anything you think might be the issue and fix. Thank you for time.

From my experience, the only way you're gonna get a PC afflicted with this disease to work with a 5th gen nano is to roll back to an earlier version of iTunes.  Those affected have been exhausted by this ongoing issue.  To update or not to update?  And I always say never update unless you have to, and turn off all that auto update mess!
I have two core2duo lappies running 32b vista.  My workflow dictates 32b fyi.  One is acer aspire running itunes v 11.1 (.0.126),  5th gen nano was originally formatted and works just fine on this machine to this day.  My other is the bigger badder lenovo thinkpad and the 5th gen will NOT mount using any version of itunes past 11.0 (.1.12)  Windows mounts it just fine.  itunes is not having it.  no shirt no shoes no service.
I have both a 4th and 5th gen nano.  The 4th gen works great on both machines, I even successfully tested it with the latest version (11.1.5) before subsequent deletion on the thinkpad!  Weird huh?  I think my next experiment might be to restore my 5th gen w/ a Mac and theeeeen plug it into PC itunez.
I'm at a loss on the thinkpad.  Scanned for intruders.  Cut the Lenovo bloat.  Executed system and reg maintenance.  Took down msconfig to a safe mode + itunes level to attempt to resolve possible sw conflicts but to no avail.  NO NO NO.  Every single dang port, every time on the thinkpad.  Has me feeling like others might get the same treatment by the next itunes update.  :|
    So in summary for me:
5th gen nano and thinkpad are a NoGo on 11.1^  last working version for me = 11.0.1
5th gen nano is working on an acer aspire 11.1.0  but no way in the world am I updating
4th gen nano is kicking 5th gen nano's @zz so what would make me want to buy a new ipod?

  • Ipod not read by Windows or itunes

I have an older ipod clickwheel. It worked beautifully until 10/15/08 when my computer ("computer A") automatically installed Windows Vista updates. When I connected my ipod to the computer's USB port, I got a nasty whirring sound and it did not appear in Windows or itunes. I toggled hold switch, reset and disconnected. I then connected it to my laptop ("computer B") and it worked perfectly. Now laptop has automatically installed Windows updates (Windows 2003, not Vista) and the ipod is doing same thing on that computer -- endless whirring, frozen up, not recognized by Windows or itunes. When I reset my ipod, it works fine, but I can't update any of my music/podcasts because it won't sync. It's forever stuck on 10/15/08 content. What should I try next? Thanks

    erfva,
If you can get the iPod recognized in iTunes, you can always attempt to restore it: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1339
However, if it's not recognized in iTunes you can attempt to format it using Disk Mode, using your Windows OS (just like you would format any drive). Here is a good article on what to do if the iPod is not seen in iTunes: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1373?viewlocale=en_US
Unfortunately beyond that, especially if it's making whirring or clicking sounds, it can be a hardware failure which would require service: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1382
    Hope this helps,
    Raleigh

  • Ipod not recognised by Windows - need urgent help!

Just bought my Ipod Mini. Found out that Ipod is not recognised by Windows because Ipod is configured for Mac...
Restoring to factory settings not possible because Windows does not see the Ipod. What can I do?
    laptop   Windows XP

First, make sure that the iPod is fully charged.
iPods come pre-formatted for Mac, so you will need to format it for Windows.
See this article to verify its format: How to determine iPod's hard disk format.
Make sure that you have the latest iPod Updater software
    - Download the Update Installer to your PC (do not run it from the web site).
    - Place the file on the Desktop, or in a Folder you can remember/find.
    - You also need to install the Updater software by double-clicking on the file that downloads.
    - After you install the Updater to your PC, reboot your computer.
    - After rebooting, run the Updater.
--- Go to: Start ==> Programs ==> iPod.
    - It should initialize then ask you to connect an iPod.
    - Connect the iPod when asked (not before) and you should have two options available: Update or Restore.
--- Choose the Restore option and it will update your iPod's firmware to the latest version and format (erase) your iPod's hard drive.

  • Black 80gb Classic iPod not recognised by Windows My Computer or iTunes

I live in Australia. I am on my third black 80g ipod classic in two days as Apple support hasnt resolved issue and they keep giving me a case number and having the retailer replace the 80g Classic. It is driving me balmy and I still havent resolved the issue where my vista laptop is not recognising the device. I have reistalled itunes, drivers, stopped and restarted device service manager and it still doesnt show up on windows or itunes, I have no other devices plugged in and when I plug my other silver 80g classic or my three shuffles in they all work, including at the same time. I take them all out and still the new Black 80g classic is not recognized. I have no idea now.
All support staff and the staff at Myer have been excellent so far but still no result.

I have been down again and checked that the ipod worked on another computer which it did. Came home again and still doesnt recognise this ipod.
    I have removed itunes
    reinstalled itunes
changed drive names ( I have another classic and three shuffles that all work fine)
stopped and started device manager for ipod and itunes
    cleared rubbish bin
spoken with apple support three times
    rebooted the ipod
    tried in disc mode
    reinstalled drivers
It still says in device manager that the new classic is not recognised. All my virus scans are up to date, windows updates are current on vista, drivers are up to date for ipod and all ports.
    Can anyone assist me?
I am just about to take the ipod back and get a refund as they have replaced them twice and I am on my third.
I feel like it is a conflicting driver issue that may only be resolved when ipod software is updated by apple or microsoft.
I have reported issue to microsoft and there are no current solutions according to them.

  • Solution to iPod not recognised by Windows XP and iTunes

I have seen many people having a really hard time with their iPods when they suddenly get a message saying that an unknown usb device has malfunctioned...etc, when they connect their iPod on their computer. I had this problem too and for a few stressfull days i have been searching for a solution and testing my iPod on other computers to see if it's its fault.
I found out iPod was ok and the problem was on my computer as my iPod worked fine on my friend's laptop. So i googled for a solution for this usb bug and found out it has been happening to other devices such as external hard drives.
I spotted someone saying that by turning off the computer and pulling the socket for 30 mins so that no electricity goes into the computer solved his problem.
At first i couldn't believe it was that simple because i had tried everything written on apple's support pages, tried to update the usb drivers (after reading a post), even messed up with BIOS and registry keys. To no avail.
But i tried this and left my pc shut for some hours just to be sure. It worked and i couldn't believe my eyes!
I hope someone finds this helpful. Unfortunately I don't know to whom goes the credit since i don't remember where i read it.

Hi all, seems to be a lot of issues with this little device. All it has to do is play music like any other mp3 player. Unfortunately, it can't even do this. The two other mp3 players I have work without fault, don't require a 35 meg program download to work, don't need to be connected to a computer to recharge the battery and I have never needed to "Do the 5 R's" to try and fix problems. I have never needed to unplug printers to get my computer to recognise the other players or had to decypher "blinking light codes" to understand what the device is doing. Still there are die-hard Apple fans who will say there must be something wrong with your computer. I had believed that Apple were superior in a range of ways yet with my first (and last) foray into the world of Apple products, I find this to be untrue. I don't want or need the frustration that I have experienced with this device and from the number of people on this forum, I would say that I am not alone.

  • Ipod not connecting to windows or iTunes!

My iPod isn't being recognised by the computer, but when I disconnect it it lights up.. So it thinks somethings happening. Also, a seperate iPod works fine on a different logon to mine. My iPod is over a year old, could this be caused by the battery?

Unfortunately, there is no one ‘Silver Bullet’ answer for this issue. Many things can contribute to the problem. Here are various solutions that you can try to correct your problem. One should work.
First, make sure that the iPod is fully charged.
Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.
Try closing and re-starting iTunes. There have been cases where iTunes refuses to see an iPod, but after re-starting, it works again.
Also try re-booting the entire computer. Especially if the PC has been operating for a long time &/or many programs have been opened and closed, repeatedly.
Other USB connected peripherals may be the cause as well. Try removing all connected USB items and attaching the iPod. If you have a USB keyboard, it may be worth a try using the adapter to convert it to non-USB. If the iPod connects, continue plugging things back in until you have the problem return. You may have then isolated the issue. Sometimes it could be a printer, camera, Flash Card reader, or other attached device causing a conflict.
If your iPod shows up in Explorer under 'my computer' try changing the drive letter: Click on Start=>Control Panel=>Admin Tools=>Computer Management=>Disk Management. Right-Click on the iPod and select “change drive letter”. Choose something further along in the alphabet that is unused. Usually, “M”, “N”, “O” (or something similar).
If that doesn't work, Put Your iPod into Disk Mode then plug it in and you should be able to Restore the iPod
Your PC may have difficulty with the USB2 protocol and the iPod. See this Article for a possible solution: iPod not Recognized Correctly
Also try these hints (and the other suggestions above) from any other USB port you may have on the PC. Sometimes switching USB ports can make all the difference.
