Ipod 5 not turning on

So last night my ipod just shut down and it was fully charged. When I try to turn it on it wont even blink. I know i didnt shut the power. What should i do?

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Does your IPOD not turn off properly??? Does it click with the screen off?

    Guys,
I know there is someone bright out there,
I have recently bought a Ipod 5g black 60gb, and the thing wont 'turn off' I believe appple call it shut down. Am i right in saying it goes to sleep, and thats it, the screen turns off, and it goes to sleep??
The strange thing is, the clicker wheel sometimes still clicks if you rub your fing over it, (screen off) and obviously pressing any button turns it fully on.
The two clicking noises are different, sometimes it sounds as if you are turning the volume up, and down, or other times it just sounds like you are scrolling through a music album list.
Apple tech support, wasnt very helpful and she suggested the 5 r's well done them, and still not working, i have found a medicore solution, and that is to put the thing physically to sleep, ie have a shortcut, to sleep on the main menu, and this turns the display, can anyone confirm whether this is the same has holding down the play button?
(would a diagnostic check pick this up)
Obviously, i am worried about the battery, because it wont turn off. I tried testing the copacity of the battery, but i cant, as for some strange reason, i cant rip (geniuine) AAC or MP3 music at the desired, level, for some reason cant hear it at all? or it just sqeulches.
I would be very interested in hearing from anyone experienced anything similar, or if the great person who invented this cool thing, is reading, please post a reply!!
    Thanks for your time,
ps sorry fpr the long post!!

About Sleep, Deep Sleep, Hibernation, and Sleep Timer
The iPod doesn't fully turn off for a while. (Hibernation, or even more "Off", Deep Sleep).
When you manually turn the iPod off (or it turns itself off), it goes into sleep.
After you turn it off, it may still make noise when you rub your finger on the clickwheel. This may occur for about a minute. You could always activate the hold switch after you turn it off.
But it is normal for the iPod to make the clickwheel noise when you rub your finger along the clickwheel right after the iPod is turned off. It may take a minute or so to fully go into "Sleep."
Again, everything you are experiencing is normal. Read that link for more info as well.

  • IPod not turning on and not being recognized by PC

I have got a 2nd gen iPod nano 2gb, and have had it just over 2 weeks. I have used already and it had music on it. I attempt to use it in the morning and it wouldnt turn on. i connected it to my PC (Windows XP Pro) and it wouldnt recognize it. I haven't used iTunes as it refused to luanch on my PC, instead i have used realplayer. I have tried connecting it to every USB pot on my PC and it didn't recognize on any. I have attempted to restore it however it hasnt worked. Any ideas anyone?

If you have never used iTunes then I am not sure how you have tried to restore the iPod since you must use iTunes to restore. You need to try and get iTunes to work on your PC so that you can do a restore or if anyone that you know has iTunes 7 on their computer you can try and use theirs to do a restore.

  • Ipod not turning on and connecting

I have the same problem with my ipod. I let the charge get too low and it turned itself off. My computer does not recognize my ipod either. Help anyone?

  • Ipod NOT turning on, won't reset, won't charge and isn't recognized by PC

I've had my 120 Ipod Classic since the end of 2008. Before I went to bed Saturday, I plugged it in to the USB port to charge overnight while my computer was still on. I wake up Sunday and my ipod is completely dead. It won't charge or turn on. I've tried resetting it and still nothing. I have not seen the screen lit since Saturday night and have no idea what could have happened. Could it be the battery? My computer nor Itunes isn't even recognizing it. I also plugged it into my macbook and again, it's still not recognizing it. What in the world is going on? Four days later and I'm still stumped. PLEASE PLEASE help me.

If you upgraded to Itunes 9, there's the problem.
Itunes 9, unfortunately, corrupts any Ipod Classic that was purchased around a year ago. We haven't really found an exact manufacturing date for the Ipods that are susceptible to corruption.
Sorry, but you're probably out of luck like the other Classic owners out there.

It wouldn't hurt to take it to the nearest Apple store, though.

  • 5th Generation iPod not turning off

OK I saw the other posts for solutions to how to turn the 5th Gen iPod off when it is frozen. I have tried those (standard resetting, plugging it back in and resetting, hitting the forward button and resetting, etc) nothing seems to work - I don't know but hope it is using enough power to deplete the battery. It has been working fine since I got it in December until I downloaded a few new videos and songs from iTunes last night. Anyone else have any suggestions on how to get it to reset?
    Thanks!

I am having the exact same problem. Here is a list of things I have tried
    1. Resetting by holding down middle button + menu.
    2. Connecting Ipod to computer and then disconnecting than turning off
    3. Letting battery run dead, recharge Ipod, than disconnect and try and turn off
    None of them work!
What do I do in this situation?
Also I am getting a screen that says "FireWire Connections are not Supported. To Transfer songs, connect the USB cable provided" when it is sitting in the dock and stationary, and I only have a USB cable that is connected to my computer.

  • This is rediculous (ipod not turning off, itunes not working)

I got the Ipod about two months ago (so still relatively new) and today when i went to charge my ipod and put my new music on there, the ipod froze at the do not disconnect screen, then I noticed my itunes hadn't recognized it was plugged in. So i disconnected my ipod yet it still says do not disconnect.
So I plugged it back in and it said there was a corrupt file and it would clean it up, and then it froze, so nothing was fixed, now it won't recognize it again no matter how many times i disconnect it, and my ipod won't turn off.
    Any suggestions?

Now it says my ipod is corrupt (it was fine 15 minutes ago) and i try to restore the original settings and it says "There was a problem downloading the Ipod software for for the Ipof "iPod". The requested resource was not found."

  • IPod not turning OFF!

If i hold down the Play/Pause button my ipod does not go off... and no the hold button is not on! I have held it down for long periods of time but it doesnt turn off! And it doesnt help after I plug it into my computer either. this bites! HELP!
oh, and i have the 2nd generation iPod nano

When you hold down the play/pause button, does the screen vanish for a second and reappear right away? And/or does the back light just dim with the words still on the screen?
Cause I've got the same problem. I'm pretty sure its a glitch in the software and there's nothing you can do about it. It will turn off after trying quite a few times, but I've found it's best to just leave the ipod on the main menu, with nothing playing, and wait. The ipod has an idle shutdown of about two minutes, and it should shut down itself.

  • IPOD NOT TURNING ON ! helppp !

okay, my ipod all of a sudden turned off, and whenever i try to turn it back on, it comes up with the screen telling me to connect it to itunes.
the issue is, that when i plug it in, its saying that i have to unlock my passcode,
but i cant turn it on to unlock it !!! its just frozen on the plug into itunes screen !

Hi, there are other threads on this, one of which I started a few days ago and which the 'Board' suddenly shut down.
Anyway, I had exactly the same problem when I downloaded 1.1.3.
Finally, Tech Support walked me through. What I had to do was to log out of my user account, establish a new, temporary one, then the iPod restored.
Then, he had me delete the new user account. It all works perfectly again. I wish, for your sake, I could recall all the steps. It wasn't all that complicated but, as he walked me through, I didn't have time to write down all the steps, even though I wanted to.
BTW, I will NOT download the new $20.00 Apps. I figure I'm not going to pay for something that should definitely be free and I also don't want any more problems with the iPod.
    Good luck

  • Ipod not turning on but shows ok in device manager?

I bought my ipod from the apple store in florida about 5 months ago. I woke up this morning and went to turn it on and it wouldnt. I left it in my laptop most of the day and still no change. Its shows up in the device manager and says it is workin properly. However it also says that a USB mass storage device is not functionin properly whenever the ipod is plugged in . Any ideas?

Almost certainly your drivers for usb/firewire (whichever you're using) are screwed. Try ininstalling then reinstalling the hardware. You don't have to actually remove anything, you're just telling windows to forget hardware, then asking it to detect any hardware it didn't know about, and install it.

  • IPod not turning on or being recognized by Computer and Mac

I put my iPod down onto a shelf to play some Wii Fit (c) but when I came back from playing... my iPod didn't want to turn on. So I thought Oh, Okay just a regular problem so I went to my computer and started to put it into DFU mode... so I started and I was like.. How come I don't hear my bells on my computer telling me that I plugged something in... so I thought something must be wrong with my PC. So I went to my laptop... same thing happened...nothing... so now I am stuck with an iPod that won't be recognized by my computer.....
I might have to send it into Apple, but I live a bit far away, so I could send it up there but it might take time to come back down..
    Anyone else have any suggestions??
    All help is appreciated,
    Thanks

  • Problem with ipod not turning on

well heres the thing.... i dropped my ipod a few months ago then i tried to turn it on using reset etc. and all that other stuff you gotta do to try and get it to work, including waiting 24 hours and then resetting also connecting to other computers, and charger etc.... but when restarting i can hear the hard drive start to spin clicks and then slows down (like a powering down noise), without anything coming up on the screen... i have connected my ipod to the computer and it doesn't recognize it, but sometimes recognizes it, but doesn't come up with the drive in my computer... after a while (approx 5mins) it will come up with auto play and the drive will come up but then disappear straight away.... i am thinking probably a hard drive problem. any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Dropping didn't help matters. YOu don't want to hear it, but I'd say time for a new iPod.

  • IPod Not Turning Off or Pausing??!

    My iPod...
    1.) Won't turn off.
    2.) Won't pause.
3.) When a song is playing, it won't get out of the volume control (even when I press the center button).
4.) It takes 2 tries to make it get out of the album cover and back to a menu.
5.) Holding the Menu button down doesn't make it go back to the Main Menu anymore.
6.) When I go to a video, the volume control won't go away, and the video won't play right away.
7.) The scroll either goes too fast or too slow.
Can anyone help me?! I've tried restoring it a bunch of times and that fixes it for about 2 seconds. Plugging it into the computer helped for a couple seconds, too, but that's it...
    Help!

Take your iPod Nano to your local Apple Store or an AASP. You may have a hardware problem.

  • IPod not turning on for more than a few seconds or recognized by computer.

Hey, if anyone could help that would be great. I have an IPod 2G with 3.0 software. The problem started that when I plugged my IPod into the computer it would charge, but ITunes would detect it and Itunes would lock up. As soon as I unplugged the Touch Itunes started working again.
So, I went into the Touch settings and hit reset. The thing got about 75% done erasing files and the battery died. Now when I turn it on it shuts down after a few seconds and Itunes still doesn't recognize it.
    Any ideas?

    you're welcome

  • IPod not turning on...

Hi... so, my 5th gen iPod isn't turning on. At all. Ive tried resetting it and everything. It's even plugged into my mac right now and nothing's happening. It's as if there isn't a battery in it at all!
The only thing I'm doing different is using it with my Macbook. Usually I use it with a PC and it's formatted for Windows, but I've used it with my Mac a few times and have had no problems.
    Help!!!!!

    Kevin
You may have to pay for it. What you could do is pay £40 for an extra one year warranty and then report the problem. That should cover it.
I have a 20GB that was bought for me on the 9th Dec last year. I had the same problem you are having and sent it back to them at the end of August. They sent me a brand new one (even engraved it for me as my original was engraved).
I had the second one for 4 weeks (exactly) and had the same problem again!! I am waiting on that to be replaced! I asked them what happens from the 9th Dec this year and they said I would have to buy the £40 extended warranty.
When I enquired about a refund they said they would only refund after two major repairs. But as it has been replaced it doesn't count as a repair.
