IPod 5 skips like a CD player

Recently my iPod touch 5 has been skipping like a CD player does when you hit a good bump while driving. I hit a bump in the road, my iPod skips. I have model no. ME643LL/A running ios 7.1.2 (11D257). Anybody have any ideas what is causing the issue or how to fix it?

Does it do this with no headphones connected?
If so and only bums cause the skipping that indicates a poor/intermittent electrical contact problem.

If it only happens wit headphones then that mean either defective headphones or a bad headphone jack

  • Ipod randomly pauses then resumes (seems to skip like a cd player)

I brought my 30gig ipod about 2 months ago on only recently has this problem been happening. It seems to pause for about half a second then resumes automatically, simalar to what happened to the old cd player walkmans when you shook them. My friend recently had a similar problem with his ipod mini and they said it was his hard drive but his ipod would stop playing for about 20 secs and then resume or just stop playing completely. Please help, Josh

    See if the following helps
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”

  • ITunes Converted MP3 Corrupt (Skips like record)

So I've been searching and I have not been able to find my specific issue out there. So here it is. Hope someone can help.
I purchased a new vehicle with a 30Gb HDD. Unfortunately, it doesn't play ACC so I have to convert my music to MP3. Not a big deal since it's a built in feature in iTunes. The problem I'm finding is that a lot (not all) of my songs will skip like a record player around the 3-3.5 minute mark. The song will still play to the end. it just has this annoying skip. Sometimes a song will also cut off the last few seconds.
When I play the same MP3 through iTunes, it will skip at the same point so this tells me there is something wrong with the conversion. The orignal purchased song is fine. I delete the MP3 song and reconvert and it seems to work. This is just a pain as I'm finding more and more songs that are corrupted. I also have not listened to all the reconverted songs yet so I'm not entirely sure reconverting will work every time.
Is there a setting that is causing this? Is there another conversion method that is more robust?
    Thanks for any help.

Hey, check this out I was playing around with a CD in Windows Media Player 11, I was wondering why this played so well and Itunes didn't I was going to download a cd in wma 11 and started looking around I noticed a box with said if you are having playback problems uncheck this box for 24 bit sound. so I did and swicthed back to itunes. so far no skipping. I will continue to monitor. So much for the tech experts at Apple & Microsoft

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

have you disconnected your iPod witout really ejecting it first? (actually, I do it all the time...), but is seems that this causes the ipod songs to become corrupted and not to play. scan your ipod to see what happens. try this.

  • Ipod randomly skipping to the end of songs

when playing certain songs on my ipod (5th gen 60gb), the song will play fine until there are about 45 seconds left, at which point the ipod will skip until there is one second left, and freeze for about a minute. this problem does not occur when playing the songs in itunes.
the problem seems to only happen with songs I have ripped using itunes lame, but this does not happen with all songs I have ripped using that software. this problem is very annoying and is keeping me from listening to many songs on my ipod.
thanks in advance for any help/advice.

i'm having the same problem of skipping songs. Minehappens on the gen5 60 gig player only when I want to use a playlist. Mine just seem sto not like my song selection and just skipps a multitude of songs until it find one it likes and starts there. In one list it just goes to the ninth song plays it through and then goes to 12, 14 etc. Should anyone come up with a cause or solution it would be great. I have reset the player three times and that goes not do the trick, even for a minute.

  • HELP!  iPod music skipping problem

Hi there! I am posting so I can get feedback on how I can better organize my music. First off, let me describe a problem that I am having on my iPod that I think is related to my iTunes library.
    - While using my iPod with Click Wheel, I have (for example the Black Eyed Peas)10 songs, and it skips over a bunch of them except maybe one or two. Now, when I use iTunes all of the 10 BEP songs are the library and I can play them on my PC. I don't understand why they play on the computer but not on my player.
I think it has something to do with the way I have my music organized. Here's how I generally do it:
    - In the Windows My Music folder, I seperate each artist by their name. In this folder I have each album separated. When I add a new album or artist into itunes, I keep the My Music/Artist folder open and have iTunes open behind it so I have the screens split. I then drag the songs I want into the iTunes library and they show up.
However, as I mentioned before I have songs on my iPod that skip even though the "appear" on the screen, they just can't find the song so it flashes to the next song etc.
Is there something that I am doing majorly wrong? What does the iTunes folder in the My Music folder do.
Should I be better organizing my songs? Also it seems I have a ton of duplicates!
    Please help!

Other can be Album Artwork, Notes, Contacts, Firmware etc. or (and this doesn't apply to the iPod Touch or iPhone which don't have the option to enabled for disk use), files that are on there if you are using the iPod as a removable storage device. If you feel that Other is being incorrectly reported then try restoring your iPod. Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions to name the iPod and automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

  • My music skips like a scratched cd!

This is the second time I'm asking. please? anyone? my music on itunes skips like a scratched cd. but i know it's not a problem with the music itself. i think it has something to do with windows media player interfering with itunes?

I have been fighting this problem for quite a while. Itunes 7.02 skips, but playback on ipod is fine. I already did all the things apple said to do: ie all the things at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93610, ie updating itunes, updating audio drivers, no third party plug-ins, enabled Maximum Audio Hardware Acceleration, ensured sound enhancer was deselected, updated directX, and selected “wave out”. I even talked to apple and HP. My songs play on winamp and windows media player, but not on itunes. I re-installed quick-time with itunes many times. Then from searching on the web, someone said that HP dv computers for whatever reason do not work with the copy of quick-time that is downloaded with i-tunes from the apple website. I then deleted the quicktime only with the add/remove programs on the control panel. Then I downloaded the quicktime ONLY, from the apple website. I have now been skip-free for 8 hours. It may not be enough time yet to tell if this is the fix, but before I was skipping every song. Try it and see if it works for you.

  • Songs skipping like a scratched CD

A few songs on my iPod nano are skipping like a scratched CD would skip: always in the same place, making that annoying stuttering sound. They work fine in iTunes, so I figured removing that particular playlist from my iPod, syncing, then re-adding the playlist and syncing once again would fix it by making sure I had the file from my computer on my iPod.
Since that didn't work, I have no idea what to do. Any ideas? Thank you.

Might want to post this over [here|http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=154] as you clearly stated it plays fine on the computer...

  • IPod Nano skips certain songs

My iPod Nano, version 1.0.2 Mac, model MD480LL, skips a handful of specific songs. When listening to music, one of these songs comes up for half a second and then skips to the next song, whether on shuffle or not. When I select one of these songs from the menu it does the same thing. These certain songs do not play on my iPod Nano at all. However, they play perfectly fine on my iMac, iPad, iPhone, and even my old 2nd gen iPod touch. My Nano is the only one that has this problem. I have tried restarting the Nano and restoring it, and the same songs still won't play. I've tried everything I could think of. I've serached through countless forums and have found many people with similar problems (but none exactly like mine) and I have tried every suggestion in each of these forums and none have helped. If you have any suggestions, any ideas at all, please don't hesitate to share.

First off, does your iPod only skip on songs that you have purchased from the iTunes Store? Or does it vary from some of those purchases, to some songs from CD's you've imported?
Also, does there seem to be a pattern, where your iPod only skips on particular songs, or is it ever-changing; for example, a few songs skipped yesterday, and now they don't skip anymore, but are replaced by different songs.
Have you tried restoring your iPod? For more info, take a look here -> Restoring your iPod to Factory Settings
If that attempt doesn't work, then try turning off your iPod's EQ settings.
Go to "Settings > EQ" on your iPod. If you currently have a specific option set (i.e., "Treble Booster", "Vocal"), then try switching your setting to "Off".
    See if that changes anything.
One last question: are the songs playing fine in iTunes, although they may not be playing well on your iPod?

  • ITunes plays songs but iPod mini skips whole songs

I have an iPod mini with the latest version (1.4) as well as the latest version of iTunes for Windows. I have imported songs into iTunes and they play fine, they also seem to upload to my iPod just fine. But when I go to play these certain songs on my iPod it skips right over them. It shows the song and acts like its about to play but just as it should start playing it skips to the next song. Anyone heard of this?

Hi Josh and welcome to Apple Discussions.
First, make sure you've played at least some of the purchased song in iTunes to authorize it.
If you've played them in iTunes and the still skip, try this. De-authorize the computer in iTunes/Advanced menu, then to re-authorize it. You re-authorize it by playing one of the songs purchased from the iTunes Music Store in iTunes. It should ask you for your Apple ID and password, then the computer will be authorized again. Sync you iPod with iTunes, and those songs should play again.
Another common cause of this is not having the latest version of iTunes. If you don't have the latest, you can get it from here.

  • IPod justs skips over songs??? PLEASE HELP

When I try playing songs on my iPod it just skips over them. Some play but most of them just skip. Any answers?? Please help

In my case, the new 5G ipod was skipping virtually all the songs I had previously added from my own CD collection, but playing all others like mp3 files from CD-R or files downloaded from web, or itunes store (my old 3G had no problem playing them all). After much futzing around I found I could fix the skipping by slightly altering the info file on each of the affected songs. The easiest way to do this was on itunes choose edit--select all--right click on any song--choose "get info"--choose info tab--then insert a period or a dash or some other unobtrusive symbol in the comments section. You should see a green check mark appear next to the info section. Click OK.
This symbol will now be added to every song's comments. But it cured my problem 100%.

  • Mini skipping like a bad CD.....

Can any help me out....some songs on my mini are skipping like bad CD's would! I listen to the songs on iTunes, and they sound fine, but get messed up on the iPod. Not all songs, just some.
    Thanks!

I have the same problem! I have tried all of the R's and even reloaded the songs. The songs work on iTunes, and will even work on the iPod for a little while, and then start skipping. Someone help please!

  • My iTunes skips like a scratched CD?

So I didn't have this problem until I upgraded iTunes about a month ago to the current version.  All of my music, which previously played fine, skips like it's playing off a scratched CD whenever I do anything else on my computer.  I'll go to load tumblr and it'll repeat the same clip of like half a second of song for ten seconds.
I use iTunes when I draw and that's the worst.  I can't put my tablet pen down without my music freaking out.  This is driving me crazy because I love music and it was just fine until I downloaded the new iTunes.  Now my music skips on both my computers and it's getting to the point where I want to scream.  I've done a disk cleanup, defragmented it, everything my friend and I could think and it still skips all the time.  Windows Media Player and all my other players work perfectly, just not iTunes.
Please tell me someone out there knows what I'm talking about and how to fix it?

    Ejects the harddrive?
Of what did your old Mac die?
It sounds to me like you have some file corruption somewhere.  Either in the transfer of your library to the external or the external itself is flaky if it keeps ejecting.

  • Ipod video "Skipping" on certain tracks

Can anybody help with this ?
When playing back a couple of tracks on my ipod video have been "jumping" and "skipping".
Could this be a serious problem ? I am worried the hard drive is damaged. Do you get damaged sectors on a ipod hard drive like on a comptuer hard drive ?
If anyone has any advice at all I would be really grateful,
    Thanks,
    Martin

Did you try the 'Five R's':
Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall , Restore
    Reset your iPod.
Retry with a different USB port.
Restart your computer and make sure you have the latest software updates installed.
Remove iTunes software and then reinstall iPod and iTunes software from latest versions on the web.
Restore your iPod. See “Updating and Restoring iPod Software” in the user's guide.
