IPod 5 won't play music on old ihome

I have an old iHome and it only works with the old iPhones and iPods. I have the iPod 5 and I have the Lightning to 30 pin adapter. I plug that and my iPod into my iHome and it charges and recognizes my iPod is there. But when I try to play the music on my iPod to the iHome it does not work. I have everytihng plugged in correctly but my iHome will not play songs from my iPod. The song only goes through my iPod speakers but not my iHome speaker! It worked with my old iPod but not my 5th generation! Please Help!

- Reset the dock
- go to the manufacturers' support site/contact the manufacturer. Maybe there is a firmware update available.
- Sometimes this works
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync all music and resync
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
Otherwise you will have to wait for a firmware update to either the dock or the iPod. Sometimes an iOS update breaks compatibility.

  • IPOD Shuffle Won't Play Music

    Hi,
I just received an IPOD shuffle and have seemed to install it correctly. I already had Itunes on my laptop and even updated it. The ipod is recognized by Windows and by ITunes. It even seems to copy the files to the Ipod but when I disconnect it and try to play the songs nothing works. I have reset the Ipod and uninstalled/reinstalled the software. Can someone please advise?
    Thanks!

It does very little good to simply state that things seem to happen or not, or that things simply don't work. Describe exactly what is going on.
    1. Why does it only seem to transfer music? How, exactly, are you trying to make it do that?
    2. What, exactly, happens when you do it that way? What do you see happening in iTunes? What does the iPod's playlist look like? What messages do you get in iTunes when you think it's done?
As for the playing, more of the same.
    1. How, exactly, are you trying to make it play music?
    2. What, exactly, happens when you try it that way? What does the Shuffle do in terms or lights or anything else?

  • My iPod touch won't play music through the dock speakers

The other day I went to plug my IPod touch into my dock to play some music, as i do every night. My dock seemed fine, my IPod started charging, but when i turned the music on it only played out of the IPod speakers, not out of the dock. i figured it was the dock that was broken, so i plugged my IPod into my backup dock and it did the exact same thing. The only way i can get my IPod to play music out of the dock is to plug it in through the headphone jack. My IPod still plays music out loud so i have no idea what's wrong.

There is another thread entitled "brand new iPod touch 4th gen will not sit on dock of Sony Dream Machine" that mentions similar problems and claims to be resolved. Actually it is not. Some say that there is a plastic piece to bend but it is unspecified which one they are thinking of and which way to "bend" it. Besides, I am not sure any guaranty will work if one does this kind of work on the iPod. It would be preferable if someone from Apple would take responsibility and mention what has to be done or if there will be a recall of the items with a modified system.

  • My Ipod Touch won't play music.  When I click on Itunes, all it does is open the ITunes Store.  There are no playlists at all, but they show up on my computer just fine.  I have tried syncing several times, and have tried making a new playlist.

I have tried making a new playlist, and have synced it a gazillion times.  This all happened when I bought a new computer and transferred my Ipod to it...with upgraded Itunes software.  I have tried everything.

Thanks -- actually I worded the question wrong.  I was trying to find my songs icon and kept reloading Itunes to try to find it.  All I could get was the store.  I finally figured out how to reset the desktop and I got my icon back.  Thanks for your answer.

  • Ipod touch won't play songs from the beginning

After upgrading to version 4.0.2, my ipod touch won't play music from the beginning. This happens no matter I play music in iTunes or using my ipod touch without connecting to the computer. I restarted the device and this still happens. What can I do about it? Can anyone help?

    Hello lc_llc,
Double check each track to make sure the *Remember Playback Position* option has not been abled from under the Options tab of the track's *Get Info* window in iTunes.

  • I upgraded my iPod Touch 4th Gen yesterday.  Now it won't play music, which is the main thing I use it for.  Over 11,000 songs [it's a 64GB model] -- will I actually have to restore the device and re-add all that music?

[Music files are still there, and I can play them on my computer directly from the iPod [just one track at a time] but not in the usual way, through headphones.]
On the Summary page of iTunes for the iPod, it shows 50-plus gigabytes of "Other" content and no music, which was not previously the case.  I assume this is related to the problem.
I can bring up individual tracks on the iPod and see cover art, but cannot play the music.

iCloud is free, iTunes match is $25 a year.
I had the same problem and when I went to Settings I had 0 songs, even though they were obviously still there since I only had 15GB free on my 64GB device.
I decided to do a complete reset/restore of my 4th gen iPod Touch, Bad move! I've been messing with it for hours, and it simply won't restore--it keeps hanging on a black screen with an Apple logo and a progress bar at about 10%, sometimes it goes completely blank and tries again, with the same result. (I've posted my question/plea for help here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19735862 )
I'm ready to bang my head against the wall! I can put the device in recovery mode, connect to iTunes on my computer, and get it back to the setup screen, but when I go through the process again and try to do an iCloud backup I get the same reset/restore loop.
I could start from scratch, but I really, really, really don't want to go through all of my hundreds of apps, reinstall them one by one, etc. etc. etc.
I thought that once I started using iCloud, I didn't need to sync with iTunes anymore--guess I was wrong.

  • My iPod Touch 5th Generation won't play music out loud. Why and what can i do to 'fix' it?

My iPod Touch 5th Generation won't play music out loud. Why and what can i do to 'fix' it?

If you mean the headphones work but the speaker does not:
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

  • My Sony icf-cs15ip docking station won't play music ,

My Sony ICF-CS15iP docking station won't play music from my iPhone 4s which is on iOS 7 but it will play my music from my old iPod touch, can anyone help me with a fix or let me know if I'll just have to get a new docking station, thanks in advance!

@Gscott1979, I had the same problem with both my ICF-CS15iP docking stations I have and was ready to throw them out the window.
Finally after almost 2 years using them just as a charging station I found the solution that worked for me.
And the solution could not be any simpler........ use the reset button on the bottom of the docking station. It is a small hole between the battery latch and the screw next to it. Just a paperclip will do.
If it does not work, you may also want to check this site

  • Ipod shuffle won't play tracks in order

My ipod shuffle won't play tracks in order even when I have the shuffle button off. I have sync'd it on itunes to play in order but it just continues to shuffle all the tracks! Please help. Thanks

I found a post about this problem from November, it is apparently how the iPod Shuffle handles podcasts. It sorts them in REVERSE chronological order, and moves them to the top of the play list. It's unbelievable that Apple has let a problem like this persist for so long.
Here is the discussion I mentioned:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6259808&#6259808
It offers a way to partially fix the problem, but one that I find entirely unacceptable. The only lasting solution mentioned was to buy a different mp3 player, which I'll be doing as soon as I return my Shuffle and get my money back.
The sad thing is that in addition to Apple losing money on the sale of a Shuffle, they're also loosing money on songs I would be purchasing from iTunes (I got a $20 gift certificate for my b-day that I'm going to sell to buy other music that will play on a non-Apple mp3 player), and they might loose potential customers because I've been complaining about this to everybody I know!

Correction, I found a discussion dealing with this from 2005!

Although you say you have let the battery drain, was it for long enough? Since nothing else that you've tried so far has worked, I suggest that you leave the iPod unplugged for at least four days, preferably a week. That way, if something is stopping the iPod from turning the screen on, then whatever it is will drain the battrey. However, since the screen isn't on, that may take longer than if the screen was on.
Then, after that time, plug the iPod into a power source and leave it alone for at least thirty minutes. Only after thirty minutes will it show any signs of life, but you should leave it until it is fully charged before trying to use it.
If you get to this stage, the fact that the battery has drained will cause the iPod to reset when it springs back to life.
Let us know how you get on.

  • Please HELP! iPod Nano won't play songs

I just got my iPod nano yesterday and absolutely loved it. I took some of my friendssongs from his PC. Then I tryed using ipod agent to put them into itunes. It said that there was an error. Now when I chose a song the song will come up, it won't play, but instead go to the next song and same thing happens. Now itunes won't even recongiz or pop up when it is plugged in

The iPod is designed to sync to one computer as it copies the music to a special file for the iPod OS and software to play.
You can enable "disk mode" and use that to transfer any file back and forth, but the iPod won't play music files stored in the "disk mode" portion you set in iTunes Preferences with the ipod plugged in.
Basically the software you used to transfer the music out of the "special file" back into iTunes is not authorized, it's a "hack". So Apple routinely disables the hacks because of agreements to protect the music from piracy.
Another thing is the music you got from your friend may indeed by ACC/"Fairplay" copy protected music bought from the iTunes Music Store, unless your computer is one of the five authorized, it won't play.
Also because you hooked your iPod to your friends PC, the "ownership" might have changed and Apple may have employed something that your iPod is no longer recognized as yours.
What you probably have to do is use the iPod software to "reset" your iPod, clear out everything in the process and just hook it to your computer.
If you want to transfer uncopy protected, non-copy righted "free" music to your computer from another computer, enable the iPod's "disk mode" and set a size to balance between the music in your "special file" and the needs of what you intend to transfer.
Once you get home, transfer the music files into your iTunes, then you can copy them to the "special file" so the iPod can play them.
It's a bit complicated, but's it's designed to prevent mass theft of music (so the artists will provide their music online) and keep the benefit of syncing/playlists in line.
