IPod 5g 30gb freezes...iTunes...Failed-Delayed Write Error

For some reason my iPod is just going whacko! When I plug it into my computer everything is reconized fine, and iTunes starts to sync the iPod with my library...after about 45sec. of "coping" the iPod screen freezes, and then an error message comes up at the bottom of the screen stating Windows Dlayed Write Error - Failed...anyway, it does this everytime and I can't put music on my iPod cause of it. It's not iTunes itself cause I tried it on my laptop and it did the same thing. It's not the iPod I don't think because other programs work fine on it, like EphPod, but I want iTunes to work since I have put so much time into correcting the library to just the way I want it.
-Previous Problems & Solutions-
When I first got my iPod it was ok getting it setup and stuff although I was concerned because when it first formated it it put on a partition so I could only fill it up 4.7gb, te size of the formatted partition. But that comes in later...well, my friend kinda droped it after the first week...thats when I got the real troubles, when I went to go add songs to my iPod it acted weird, it would be reconized by windows explorer, although it wanted me to format it. But not by iTunes. After trying to reset it a billion times, I finally just decided to format it with windows, thus solving the partition problem, but I left it formatting all night and when I woke up my computer had completely frozen and the format had only gotten to 5% so I then tried to restore it now that the partition was broken...yeah! It worked, ad iTunes now reconized it. And I could open it with windows explorer. I guess it's ok to format it with windows. As long as it's a FAT32.
iPod 5g 30gb Video 1.1 USB 2.0   Windows XP Pro   AMD Atholon XP 6400 2.0ghz 512mb RAM USB 2.0

I had the same problem last night with the same iPod. I use a USB docking station with my laptop and it has some USB ports on the back. I had added another USB device and ran out of ports, so I plugged a 4-port USB 2.0 hub into the docking station, and the iPod into that. I then had the same problem you describe. I re-arranged things so that the iPod was back plugged into the docking station (which itself is a 4-port hub) and everything worked okay. I guess the iPod doesn't like being plugged into a hub that's plugged into a hub.
If you use a hub, try it without, or try on another USB port.
My system is all USB 2.0, if yours is 1.1 it may just be slow enough to cause iTunes to "time out".

This just started yesterday. I went to sync my iPod, but iTunes just froze. Everything else worked on my computer, and my iPod appeared under My Computer.
I ended up disconnecting my iPod, and iTunes started working right away, but gave me the message saying that My iPod could not sync because the Disc cannot be read or written to, then another one said My iPod could not sync because the folder could not be found.
I've tried reinstalling iTunes on the computer, still nothing! Please help

  • ITunes freezing during sync, "Delayed Write Failed"

I've been having a really annoying issue with my iPod Classic 160GB for about two months now. Whenever I try to sync my iPod with my iTunes library, iTunes suddenly freezes completely during the sync. The problem usually appears when the sync is at around 30GB out of 40GB, but it can also appear at other points during the sync.
Sometimes, when iTunes freezes, an error message appears in the right corner of my screen saying, and I'll do my best to translate it from Norwegian:
    "Delayed Write/writing failed"
"Windows was unable to save all the data for the file G:\iPodControlArtworkF10281.ithmb. The data was lost. This error may be caused by a failure on your hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file somewhere else"
The freeze leaves me with no choice but to plug my iPod out of the computer when it says on the iPod screen that I'm not supposed to, and this probably isn't good for it.
When I plug my iPod back in, the files that should have been synced up until the delayed write error appeared and iTunes froze and that should have been audio and blue, has turned into orange and "other" on the main iPod page in iTunes.
I've tried everything from the 5 Rs to even calling iPod support where they told me that this was an Apple software issue, and that it had nothing to do with either my iPod or computer. They also told me that I could solve the issue by rolling back to iTunes 7,7 until an update to solve the issue was available. I tried this, and the same problem appeared. I tried to roll back to iTunes 7,6 as well, but no luck there either.
Now I'm getting sort of worried that my one year warranty will expire and I'll be stuck with an iPod that has a software with a really annoying problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

I am having the EXACT same problem trying to sync my new 80GB Classic with itunes on a Macbook.
I restored and updated to latest ipod firmware. No change.
I updated iTunes to 8.0. No change.
I updated OS X to 10.5.5. No change.
Oddly enough, iTunes freezes to the point where it must be force quit. But it will not quit even then. I have to restart just to get back to a point where itunes will open again.

  • Click wheel ipod freezes up windows explorer/delayed write error

Sorry for the length of this, but I have been dealing with this for a while.
I have two 5G 20GB iPod's that I can't sync to either of my computers.
I usually sync it on my desktop, which is a P4 2.4Ghz, 512MB, XP PRO, MoBo is Asus P4C800, I would connect them with the firewire connection directly from the back of the motherboard.
My iPod's Hard Drive failed. So I replaced it with another Toshiba Drive (MKGAL2006). It didn't have the apple logo on it, but I read that it really didn't matter. When I plugged it in, it immediately detected at first, but when it was auto-updating music, it would get to about 2/3rds of my music library (13 G's) and then I would get an unknown error -124 from iTunes. I would then eject the ipod from itunes, and eject it from the windows menu. When I would check to see what music made it onto my ipod, none would be listed. When I reconnected it, it showed in itunes that I had 9 Gigs of "Other" data on it, but none of it was music. I would then set the ipod to manual update. This locked up the computer, and wouldn't unlock until I unplugged the ipod from the firewire cable. The ipod would then lock up the computer the second I plugged it in, so I put it in disk mode. I would then need to restore my ipod when I plugged it back in. I was then able to upload music to it, however, I couldn't transfer more than 25 songs at a time without getting a "Unknown error -124" from itunes or "Delayed write failure" from windows. I was getting pretty far along with this system, until I finally got a BSOD, with a memory failure error, and memory dump. But there was no program specified. Now, when I plug it in, it shows as removable drive (E:), autoplay will run for 10 minutes, and itunes becomes unresponsive, as will my computer. When I right click on the ipod in my computer, it says the drive cannot be accessed or is unresponsive.
I tried my girlfriends ipod after this on her profile in windows. It followed the same process, during auto sync it would get to a 2 GB's of data, and then get error -124 in itunes. It was showing up as the name of her ipod, however in my computer. When I ejected, switched to manual, then reconnected, it now shows as removable disk in My computer.
I then tried it on my TOSHIBA laptop (1.5 Ghz Celeron, xp home, 504 MB memory,) through the USB cable and fresh install of itunes (7.41).
Mine made a connection, I had to restore it, and it began to sync up music, it got to 2.5 Gigs, and then I got a windows explorer message saying there is no disc in the drive, please insert one. I was able to eject the IPOD (as it was listed in itunes, but I named it something else when I restored it)from itunes, but ejecting it from windows froze up the system tray, and after waiting 15 minutes, I eventually just unplugged it.
I tried my girlfriends ipod, and it was able to install in windows, but won't get listed in itunes, but itunes is responsive.
I am very frustrated with this. Please let me know if there is any vital information with this that I am missing
    Thanks in advance.

    Allright,
So I tried sticking my girlfriends ipod back into the laptop through USB for a couple hours. iTunes locked up, and the iPod got hot. So I disconnected it manually, and I got a unhappy face, that wouldn't reset no matter what. In frustration, I just left everything alone for a couple days.
I found out online that people were having success with these unhappy ipod faces by slapping the back of the case after they hard reset the ipod (press menu and select). So I did just that. And it worked. The ipod was back up and running. I plugged it into the laptop, and it updated itself. iTunes warned me that it was preselected for another library, so to add any music, it would go into another playlist as a secondary library. However, it only added music that wasn't on there before. So Boom, I got one iPod working.
The one I had, whose HDD I replaced, wasn't so lucky. I was still getting stuck restoring it, then hooking it up, and it updated several gigs of music (very slowly) and then would freeze up itunes, and I would have to disconnect. After having read on some forums (I highly recommend you read http://www.notpopular.com/blogs/josh/2005/12/24/replacing-the-hardrive-of-an-ipo d, the comments taught me a lot) that reconnecting the IDE cable on their hard drives got rid of the unhappy faces and folder icons. So I cracked open my ipod, and replaced the replacement hard drive with the original one from apple. SOB actually worked. I put the ipod back together, and hooked it into the USB. It updated about 3000 songs, and showed that sync was complete. I unhooked it, but found there was no music listed under songs. Weird. So I set it into disk mode (reset with menu and select, and at the apple logo hold play and select) and plugged back in, I ejected after 30 or so songs, and found that those 30 songs were listed. I know that disk mode works. So I hook it back in, and I am happy to say that my ipod is working with the original hard drive. I didn't even have to pay the $54 bucks it cost for another drive. I also learned about diagnostic mode ,that isn't written about in the official boards (http://www.methodshop.com/gadgets/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/index.shtml)
I can check my hard drive, and memory, all sort of groovy tests on there.
And at this point, I am checking out my 3rd generation ipod that I long ago gave up as a hard drive problem. I reseated the hard drive connection and put it into diagnostic mode, which verified my hard drive was fine. So we'll see how that goes.

  • When burning my pictures to CD, a burn failed, medium write error came up.

When burning my pictures from IPhoto to a CD, a burn failed, medium write error showed up,

Like many other suggestions I found, I went ahead and purchased a lens cleaner. The CD instructions said to insert and play track 2, but my drive would just keep ejecting the CD. But it worked! That and a little compressed air.
Before using the lens cleaner and compressed air, my drive would constantly give me a medium write error and always make loud vibrating noises that sounded like my drive was about to explode. But now it writes like a charm and is completely silent!

  • Configurator 4 Fail to Write error

I'm new to Configurator. I've created a new panel for Photoshop CS6. When I try to export it, I get a "Fail to Write" error. I think I've followed all the instructions. How do I discover the reason for the error?

On Windows 7 and later, the application cannot write to the folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC\Plug-ins\Panels". But this is the default folder to export the panel.
    Solutions are:
    1. Select other directory, such as Documents or Desktop, and then copy the exported folder to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC\Plug-ins\Panels".
    2. Run Configurator as administrator
    3. Export the panel by "File->Export Panel As Extension (ZXP file)", and then double click to install with Extension Manager.

  • What is the problem with the newest version of iTunes (Failed to install - error 7

What is the problem with the newest version of iTunes (Failed to install - error 7 & missing MSVCR80.dll) - the DLL is not missing.  tgried to install today and it failed - what a waste.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall go to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

  • IPod video 30gb Freezing COMPUTER?

Everytime I plug my ipod video in the computer recognizes it like its connected and then just freezes up my whole computer. I don't get what is going on. I have all the new itunes and everything and am connecting ipod through USB port. Someone help me please.

I was having the same problem with my 60GB Video iPod. Are you plugging in your iPod before you open iTunes? I know plugging in your iPod is supposed to automatically open iTunes for you, but that seemed to be what was causing the problem for me. If I open iTunes first then plug in my iPod it doesn't crash my computer. I also make sure my iPod is "ejected" and turned off before I unplug it. That seems to save me from crashing my system when I unplug the iPod.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Plugging iPod Touch in freezes iTunes (v8.x and v9.x)

    Hi everybody!
My iTunes is showing a strange behaviour since yesterday. After approx. four to six weeks after my last sync of my iPod Touch with iTunes, I wanted to sync it again yesterday (iTunes was at version 8.x at that time). iTunes started normally, everything was fine, but when I connected my iPod to my laptop, iTunes freezed. Unplugged iPod...everything goes. Windows (XP Pro) recognises the iPod showing it in Explorer; Task Manager shows no unusual system utilisation.
Here is what I did then:
    - updated iTunes via iTunes itself from v8.x to current version 9.0.2 (nothing changed)
    - deinstalled iTunes and all other software components as described in the apple support site
    - read through the Apple support sites
    - installed latest Windows XP patches and updates
    - installed and used the MS installation cleanup utility
    - checked every iTunes related folder
    - cleared my Temp folder
    - installed iTunes again
    - used different USB ports
    - did some restarts, of course
And what can I say: nothing helped. Same behaviour. Plugging in, iTunes freezes, every other app is working well. Unplugging, everything is fine.
I have a suspicion. The only thing I have done since the last sync was an installation of a Pinnacle USB TV-Stick together with its related software. But before I'm going to deinstall this (and going through a complete reinstall of Win) I would like to hear other oppinions.
    Comments appreciated.

    Problem solved.
I hooked my iTunes library and my iPod up to my 2nd laptop (Samsung NC10 Netbook).
At first: same behaviour. But then, after a couple of seconds, my iPod synced with iTunes! On my other laptop I had waited several minutes for something to happen.
After syncing, I plugged my iPod back into my other laptop...et voilà, everything is fine. I do not now, what was wrong, but I'm glad it is working now.

  • Getting "file failed to write" error while syncing.

I am syncing IPADs and IPODs (big family) over USB to a windows based machine.  During large syncs it often fails with a message like "file failed to write."  It is random as to which file fails.  In fact if I keep trying it eventually syncs everything.  It's like each file has some chance of failure and I just need to try enough times.  It takes forever.  Please help!
    Some details
    - I have updated with latest iTunes
    - I have tried different USB cables and USB slots on the computer
    Thanks.

If you have a USB hub, try removing it and connecting the iPad or iPod to the back of the computer. If it isn't caused by the USB connection, the article suggestions will be a good place to start.

    Hi lilnikeair!
Since iTunes uses QuickTime to play audio/video content in iTunes, that error message most likely indicates that there's a problem with your Quicktime installation.

  • Failed to Write Error Message

When trying to transfer a book from Adobe Digital Editions 2.0.1.78765 I get the error message E_IO_WRITE Failed to write to destination.  The book shows in the Nook folder, but as 0 KB and cannot be found on the Nook device when unplugged.  I don't have a problem transfering from ADE with a second Nook I own, just have a problem with this Nook.

I figured it out.  I deleted the Digital Editions folder and then transferred the book without a problem.  It quite possibly could have been that my daughter had exceeded the storage capacity of her Nook and there wasn't any room on there to transfer the books.
