IPod 5G + Backup 3

Does anyone knows if you can use an iPod 5G (through USB2) as a backup drive with Backup 3 ?
Thanks

As long as you enable Disk Use, Backup should treat it like any other external USB2 hard disk.

  • How can I recover texts & contacts on iPhone 5c after syncing it with an old iPod touch backup?

I used to have an old LG flip-phone and an iPod Touch. I lost the iPod Touch about six months ago. This week I got my iPhone. I had to go to the Verizon store to have them take all the contacts off the LG phone and put them onto my iPod.
I had painstakingly pared down my iTunes music library to choice selection of checked items that were small enough to fit on the iPod touch. I didn't want to go through that process again, so I hooked my iPhone up to my computer for the first time, opened iTunes, and synced with the iPod touch backup on my computer. It would have been smart to have backed up the iPhone first, but I didn't. Since I couldn't text with the iPod Touch, it didn't occur to me that the existing texts on my iPhone would be overwritten.
Now all the media files and apps from my old iPod Touch are on my new iPhone 5. The new iPhone apps I downloaded yesterday are on there, too. But the contacts and texts have vanished.
To review: no iTunes backup of iPhone data. No iCloud backup, either-- I've never used iCloud before.
I downloaded Wondershare's iPhone Data Recovery program and used it to scan data on the device. The scan shows 0 contacts and only the 2 text messages that I've received this evening. Curiously, it does have my entire call history from the last week.
So is there any way to recover the texts from this last week?
This seems pretty hopeless but I thought I'd try. Thank for your help.

You are correct. There is no other way to recover this material, and yes it would have been a good idea to backup the iPhone prior to the restore. Remember that a restore to a previous date deletes everything on the device and puts it back to the state of things on the date you choose. The texts and contacts would be gone. Did you possibly sync the contacts with a supported application on the computer? That is the only other way to recover contacts. They are designed to be synced with a supported application on the computer, or with a cloud service such as iCloud, Google or Yahoo.

  • How do I get an old iPod touch backup onto a new iPod touch?

My daughter dropped her iPod touch 32GB and shattered the screen. We replaced it today, and I am trying to restore the last iPod touch backup from my iTunes account. It is about one week old. When I first connected the NEW iPod touch it gave me an option to restore, but then prompted me that the IOS was out of date and I had to first update the IOS then restore.  Exact message:
The backup of "NAME iPod" is cannot be restored to this iPod because the software on the iPod is too old.  To restore this iPod from the backup, you must first set up the iPod as new and restore the software to its latest version.
So I chose NEW, and then it seemed to configure it.  It is IOS 5.1.1.  But all to the "base" system. How now do I restore the apps, music, etc from the last backup
I named this new iPod the exact same.

    To restore from backup see:
iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring iOS software
The backup does not included synced media like apps and music. you can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
The apps have to be in the iTunes library before you restore from backup otherwise there is no place for the app date to be restored to.

  • How to update new iPod to iOS 5.1 then restore from previous iPod's backup

If I want to restore my 'new' (refurbished) iPod from a back up of my old one, I need to get iOS5.1 on this one.
I can't restore it right now because I don't have the computer it's synced with, and I was planning on getting iOS 5.1.1 on my old one before it broke.
This is what I think I should do (when I have the right computer):
    Update software to iOS 5.1
    Restore from backup.
    Update software to iOS 5.1.1
    right?
The only thing is, I will have to set up my new iPod 'as new iPod' to update the software because the option isnt there until your iPod is set up in iTunes (keep in mind, I'm not using the computer with the iTunes I will be syncing it with for the rest of its life). Will this change anything?
And should I wait to do all this until I'm on the computer with the normal iTunes I'll be using, or does it not matter because I was planning on restoring it anyways?
    Pleaaasee hellppp!

I don't have my old iPod, just the refurbished one, but I backed up my previous one beforehand when it was connected to my computer.
On my new one, I need to update it to iOS 5.1 to to be able to restore it from a backup of my old iPod because that's they system the old one was using, and I also want to update it to iOS 5.1.1, which I can't do right away or I still won't be able to restore it. I figured I would have to:
    1. Update Software of new iPod to iOS 5.1
    2. Restore new iPod from backup of old one.
    3. Update software to iOS 5.1.1
    Am I right?

    Try:

iTunes: How to re-create your iTunes library and playlists
    Next try:

  • The Ipod touch backup has filled my computer where is it so I can delete it

The Ipod Touch backup has filled my computers hard drive where is it so I can delete it???

Where are iTunes backups stored on your computer
The folder where your backup data is stored depends on the computer's operating system. Make sure the backup folder is included in your data-backup routine. iTunes places the backup files in the following places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
The "~" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your home folder, hold Option and click the Go menu.
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, and choose Run. Type %appdata% and click OK.
    Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata% and press Return.

  • IPod as backup for my photo and music library

May I use iPod as backup device for my photo and music library in case of my iMac failure? Is this tested and recommended solution?
    Thanks, Jan

This is an extremely risky option because when (and not if) there comes a time to restore your iPod, which is a very common fix for iPod problems, then all the music/photos would be erased. If you no longer have them in iTunes (or any other back up), then all that music and other data would be lost.
What if the iPod were lost/stolen/needed repair? Again, the music would lost. I strongly recommend a different form of back up, and if computer hard drive space is in short supply, you should seriously consider an external hard drive. They are not expensive, and the cost is well worth it when compared to the loss of all your precious music and photos.
At the very least back up your music/photos to either cd or dvd before deleting them, particularly any purchased music/videos, as this would have to be bought again if it were lost. See this.

My old ipod touch 4g crashed by battery problems. Apple replaced it me for a new ipod touch. I want to know if is possible restore the new itouch from the old's ipod last backup. I have all my apps, contacts and notes in my PC.

Yes you should be able to.  When you plug in your iPod and set it up via iTunes, it should ask you if you would like to restore from a previous backup.

I recently had to reformat my PC, but when I did that, I lost my iPod Touch Backup, so my question is: is there a way to sync my iPod to my PC without losing any information (such as applications and the information I had on them) and/por making a backup of it?

    Thanks in advance,

Yes there is a lot of ways to back-up your purchases and apps from iTunes, buy an external hard drive and sync it there or better yet, if you have a mac, but the Time Machine, it automatically back-up your files every hour. So if you lose anything you can just look it up there and restore it. Or if you have a PC and you don't want to buy an external hard drive, there are other storage websites where you can back-up your PC.

  • IPod Touch Backup

I'm about to reformat my PC. Once I reinstall Windows and iTunes, can all of the apps, music, photos, and videos from my iPod Touch sync up to my new install and transfer everything over? Thanks!

    No.
Your iPod Touch backup does not include your iTunes media (music, videos, apps, etc). Here's what your backup includes: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
You need to backup your iTunes media to an external hard disk or to CD's/DVD's as explained in these articles:

    Question!
If I copy an iPod Touch backup file from my old computer over to a new computer, will the "restore from backup" option work on the new computer once the backup file is in place?

It should.  Make sure your new computer is authorized for the iTunes account.

  • Ipod touch backup folder

I am trying to find the location of the ipod touch backup folder. All info i have seen shows where the iphone backup folder is, but no information on the ipod touch backup folder.

On my iMac, it is in the same folder. There are 2 folders within the MobileSync/Backup folder, one for my iPhone and one for my iPod Touch.
    On a Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    On a PC running Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
On a PC running Windows Vista: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

  • Readers for iPod touch backup?

What are the readers necessary for an iPod touch backup to work? I have an iPod touch 4g, and I think there may have been a problem with the backup reader because when I tried to restore it from the backup, in the summary tab under devices, it showed all of the data, but not the separation of music, apps, etc. It also wouldn't start past the frozen apple logo with empty loading bar, which leads me to believe that it couldn't separate the data properly. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I really do not understand your question. The backup does not included synced items like app and music. See:
    iTunes: About iOS backups
Try terminating the restore, reboot your computer and reset the iPod and try again.
    - Reset the iOS device.
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - If problems try placing the iPod in Recovery Mode and try again.
    - Next try DFU mode and try restoring again.

  • Where are iPod Touch backup files

Did the location of iPod Touch backup files change with iTunes 8? Previously, I found them somewhere like this: Libraray/Application Support/Mobile Applications/Backup and they had extension .mdbackup But I can't seem to locate them now (I had to replace a lost iTouch recently).
    thanks!

Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu and provide ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/ as the path.

  • Transferring iPhone/iPod touch backup data from PC to a Mac

Hello everyone! Is it possible for me to transfer my iPhone & iPod touch backup data from my PC (Windows 7) to a Macbook Pro? Because I'm planning to switch to Mac soon. I've tried transferring my backup data from PC to PC and it worked (Windows XP2 to Windows 7). I was able to sync my previous data to my iDevices when I plugged them into my new PC. If it is possible, can anybody please tell me how?
    Thanks a lot.

... I fear that if I connect my iPhone to it all my iPhone information, including apps will be deleted.
You are correct. Transfer your iTunes library, which includes your app and music purchases from the PC directly to your new MacBook Pro. Your photos, contacts, and other information can be transferred also if you use Migration Assistant.
This explains how to use Migration Assistant: OS X Lion: About Windows Migration Assistant
After you sync the iPhone to the PC for the last time, "deauthorize" the PC for music purchases.
When you sync the iPhone to the MacBook for the first time, it will tell you that it is already synced to another computer, and give you the option to erase and sync it to the MacBook.
