IPod 5G; Black or White?

Hi all,
I am in the process of upgrading from a 4G iPod to a 5G iPod. I have heard a fair amount of horror stories out there regarding how badly the black models scratch. I kept my 4G iPod in a case and took great care of it but am wondering if the black model is more sensitive. I saw the iPod Nano at a shop and it looked like someone had taken sandpaper to it. 'course this could be to the fact that everyone and their brother has manhandled it.
Anyone out there have a black model? How does it compare to showing wear in comparison to the white? I like the black model as it makes the color screen pop, but I also like to take care of my gear.
Thanks,
Ed

I have a black model, and it doesn't attract nearly as many scratches as the horror stories suggest.
In the three or four days it was unprotected, I kept it in the slip case that Apple gives you until my Invisible Shield arrived. During that time, I attracted a couple of barely noticeable scratches (which I polished out with iCleaner) and put the shield on.
Now I don't really bother with the slip case, and I have no scratches on the Invisible Shield. I would recommend ordering the shield a couple of days before the iPod, then literally putting the shield on as you take it out the box.

I am going to sell my second generation ipod touch, so i resetted it to factory defaults. It said it would take up to an hour, and i patiently waited. But when the black and white loading bar completed, the ipod went to the black screen with an apple logo on it. Sounds about right, right? But now, there is a processing circle on top of the logo, but the circle spins once, and stops at about halfway to the bottom. It just stays there, and about every half to one hour it becomes a white screen and starts all over again. (not the loading bar part, just the circle). I've tried holding the power and the home button, and it works, but it just goes back to the circle screen with the apple logo. HELP PLEASE?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Go to Settings>General>Accessibility and turn of either Invert Colors (iOS 6) or or White on Black (earlier iOSs).

  • Ipod photo stuck in disk mode and screen is in Black and white

came to use my ipod photo after about a week of not using it. when i took it out the colour screen was in black and white and the screen is stuck to saying it is in disk mode with a large tick.
the ipod will mount and does show up in itunes it will even play songs via itunes. i have tried resetting to no avail and my next option was to restore to factory settings which i am loathe to do as i have songs on my ipod that are no longer in my itunes library.
anyone had similar issue or can suggest a fix
    thanks

well the problem has been solved...hope this may help others having this issue.
i basically just let the battery run out, then connected the ipod to my laptop and voila...it reset and all is well again...
pretty random, but glad it is all working again.

  • 80GB ipod only outputs in black and white

I just bought a new 80GB 5th Gen iPod and hooked it up to my TV and it only outputs the picture in Black and White. If I take my old 60GB 5th Gen iPod it will output a picture no problem in color with the same TV and the same cable hooked up the same way.
All TV out settings are the same:
TV Out: Ask (I turn to ON)
    NTSC
    Widescreen On
Cable: Apple's iPod AV Cable M9765G/A
The weird thing though is if I take my new 80GB 5th Gen iPod and hook it up to my "MyVu" headsup display, it displays in color. It just won't do it on my TV.
Why won't it display color on my TV?

Try a different Video file on the 80 GB;to see if any changes? Are there any other title;s Videos are Podcast,
TV Shows that will playback in color-- if so It's possible that your file format is not compatible.
Check to see how the video files are define by format, frame rate etc; that your using as a reference to playback on TV.
See if you have any other Video's on the 80GB that will play in color.
Make sure your 80GB is using Itunes Version 7.0 or higher

  • TV shows up as black and white when I hook Ipod to TV

I have the dock and the remote, the cables, etc.... Yet when I hook up to the T.V. to watch downloaded show 1. I either get the show in Black and White
or 2. I get audio only. What's the solution?

if you are not using cables specifically designed for the iPod make sure you switch the red and the yellow. also make sure the TV out setting is on in your video settings on your iPod.
if you are using a cable specifically for the iPod and it doesn't work after trying the above the cable maybe defective.

  • Watching Movies: iPod to TV- black and white and split screen. Help?

    I have this cable: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2994604
As you can see, the chord colors on that cable are red, green, and white. The places where the chords go in on my DVD player are yellow, red, and white. As you can tell, they don't go up. I connected them so the audio works fine, but the movie shows up ONLY in black and white, and the screen is split right down the middle. On my iPod, the 'Video Setting' do not fix this. I also have the iPod Classic 80 GB, for reference.
    Help?

Toggle between PAL and NTSC on video setting.

  • My iPod connects to my TV just fine, but it only plays in black and white,

i can connect it and get it to play videos, but it will only play in black and white. i know the videos are color, but none is coming up. any ideas on problems or ways to fix it?

So just the three RCA jack type, one side into your iPod's headphone jack and then Video and L&R Audio RCA plugs at the other end?
Did you check your iPod's video settings to make sure you are not sending out PAL when you want NTSC or sending out NTSC when you want PAL?

  • Why do ipods come in many awesome colors and iphones only come in black and white?

Why do ipods come in many awesome colors and iphones only come in black and white?

The only answer is because that's what Apple decided.  No one here knows any more than that.
You should put a case on it anyway so buy one in the color you want.

  • 5G iPod - Black or White?

I'm looking for some pros and cons here... iPod is all sleek and shiny. Which color holds up better, black or white? I've had two white iPods and am now thinking black is the way to go. Aside from having a white iMac, white earbuds, dock and cables... why have a black iPod... other than the "coolness factor?" Thoughts, anyone?

My son has the black nano and it shows scratches very
easily. Is there a scratch repair kit on the market?
Yes, a company called RadTech makes a product called Ice Cream, a polycarbonate/acrylic compound to remove surface scratches on iPods and other things like laptops, cell phones, PDAs, jewelry, etc. Here's the link:

I haven't tried it yet, but I might buy Ice Cream after my next iPod.

My ipods frozen on the white apple and black background page. I've tried resetting with the hold button, but nothing's changed. How can I fix this!?

    Try this...
    Restarting your device
    1)   Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
    2)   Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Follow these steps to reset your device
Note: Reset your device only if it is no longer responding and the steps above do not work.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    Restart / Reset

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

is there any differences between black and white ipod touch ?? only the color or there are hardware differences?

    You're welcome.
    What?
Sorry, but no. The parts are identical with the only difference being a white housing or a black housing.

  • Black or white? ............ iPod, of course.

black or whit video iPod. I'm getting one 2morrow, so answer qwuickly plz!

Just plz only answer if you answer the question, not comment, please.
Gee, that's not rude at all. Oh wait, sorry that was a comment wasn't it? I better answer since you have dictated to only reply if wed had an answer (since you are in charge here and everything), so I think you should get the grey model. By the way, does your keyboard have a SHIFT key? It seems to be missing. Oh snap, another comment. I got to watch that.
