IPod 5g - Charge in sleep mode?

Will my iPod charge while my iMac is in sleep mode? I never learned to read so the owner's manual won't help me. Thanks!

Well, don't know much about iMacs, but theoretically, it should charge even though in sleep mode, just so the computer is on. There is always power coming from the port as long as it is on, even in sleep mode.
Why don't you just hook it up and see for yourself, lol.

It will make life easier on a trip my family is taking next week if I don't need to bring extra chargers.

Unfortunatly, the simple answer is NO. I have a similar PB and I notice that my Nano doesn't charge when the PB is in sleep mode even though the PB is connected to AC.
I came here hoping to find a way around this.

  • IPod touch: charging while sleeping

iPod touch 1st gen. with OS 3.0
    Apple Universal Dock
    iMac 24" alu intel 3.06GHz with OS X 10.5.8
    A question that's puzzling me:
For most of the time that I've had my iPod touch and current iMac, I've left the iPod in the dock overnight, connected to the iMac which I put into sleep mode overnight.
For almost all of that time, the iPod has been fully charged in the morning, and if I wake the iPod while the iMac is asleep, the 'battery charging' icon has been displayed on the iPod.
Occasionally, I've found that the iPod was down to less that 20% charge in the morning, but that has been the exception.
Now, though, it seems that the iPod only charges when the iMac is awake. Leaving the iPod connected while the Mac is asleep seems to discharge the battery.
I've tried a full reset of the iPod, and restarted the iMac - no difference.
I've read here and elsewhere that it's normal for the iPod battery to be discharged if left connected to a sleeping Mac, but this has not been my experience until now.
Has anyone else found that their iPod used to charge while the computer was sleeping, but stopped doing so? If so, do you know why it stopped, and how to get back to the previous behaviour?
    Thanks.
    MDP.

However, the iPod touch has been charging successfully during sleep
Then the computer was not really asleep.
The drive may have spun down and the display has gone to sleep but if the processor is asleep, the USB is NOT powered (per the USB standard). If you are using a powered USB adapter, that will continue to charge but 5VDC from the iMac USB bus will not be available while the CPU is in sleep mode.
FireWire is powered while the computer is asleep.
    A bit of info -> <a href='http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1384">Charging your iPod battery</a>

  • Is it ok to have a full battery kept in the charger in sleep mode?

Hey guys so im new to the Mac world but love my new 13 inch macbook pro with retina display.
I've been treating this laptop like my old toshiba for a while, meaning I drain it to about 20% and do i full charge but apparently the retina macbook has a lithium battery and "doesnt like it when you do that". My question is, should i leave my laptop constantly charging even if it is at a 100% and should it be charging when i close my mac lid and it goes to sleep mode. Thanks for the help in advance guys
Oh also should if i should be constantly charging my macbook, should i keep it at 90 to 80% and charge it from there and uncharge it when it reaches 100% to limit my cycle count??

Don't worry about it. However, I do not leave my computer (or any other device) connected to a charger after it hits 100%

  • Can you charge in Sleep mode or necessary to shut off?

When you charge the iphone overnight, charge it in the Sleep/Wake mode or shut the power off completely from the iPhone? I could not find the answer in the user guide.
    Thanks

I know that when it is first put on the dock, the green battery shows up on the screen indicating that the charging has started? But, after this goes out, what tells you that charging is occurring since there is no led or light to indicate that charging is taking place.

  • My ipod nano goes into sleep mode automatically and the music pauses

    Hi,
The music on my Ipod Nano 6th, automatically stops after a minute. I have to go to the sleep/wake up button, then press play to start the music again.
Is there any way to stop this. Is this happening because I have activated the watch on my home screen.
    Thanks.

Make sure your headphones are plugged all the way in, meaning there is no silver still showing from the headphone's plug.  You should hear a sort of popping/clicking noise when you have fully seated the headphones.  If that isn't the case, make sure the headphone jack is clean and clear of debris.

  • Charging iPod nano on an Intel iMac during Sleep Mode by Firewire

    Hi everybody,
I have a question concerning the iPod nano. I know that you can not sync the iPod by Firewire but you can charge it. I also know that charging the nano via USB during Sleep mode is NOT possible. However I had a 3G IPod (connected by Firewire) and it was possible to charge it when the Imac was in Sleep mode. And here comes my question:
There is a special cable for iPods, which has both Firewire AND USB. Is it possible to connect the IPod simultaneously by Firewire and USB to the Imac with the result, that the nano will charge during sleep mode (Firewire) AND is able the sync music (USB) ???
    Thank you

    Hi lora,
Don't do it! See this post:
Using the iPod Dock Connector to FireWire and USB 2.0 Cable
Which states this: "Important: Never connect both the FireWire and the USB 2.0 connector to your computer at the same time. Doing so can cause unexpected behavior."
    Good luck,

  • Problem with sleep mode!!! Help!!

I have an Ipod nano and recently updated it. Since then, when my ipod automatically goes to sleep mode it no longer plays the music/audiobooks I listen to, when it would continue before. This is terribly inconvienent and pretty much goes against the whole point of listening to my ipod. HOW do I fix this?! I can only guess it was part of the update. Help

There is another thread about the sleep/wake mode issue as well. I really didn't think that this was my issue until you said that the update included a change in this specifically. I'm not sure why the headphones would start playing music through them until it was plugged in all the way--that would be a better way of preventing this problem and not causing this misunderstanding with the sleep/wake mode. But my issue is that I can not push the headphones in any farther (it does make that click sound and it is clear it is in)...but this problem hasn't been since I bought the nano, just since the update so I know it is related to this change. So basically I have to buy new headphones because of the update??? What I was doing before was unplugging the headphones from the nano in hopes the music would not start playing again in my bag. That seemed to be working fine. Isn't there another solution for people who have the headphones in as far as they can go and don't want to have to replace their headphones?

  • Problems with MacBook Pro's sleep mode.

I have done several searches on the forums and cannot find a solution.
I have a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro 13". Recently, my laptop does not seem to "wake up" properly from sleep mode. The laptop goes to sleep perfectly fine. The sleep indicator light is on and "glows"…which is normal. Then not long after, the light turns off. It seems like the laptop has shut down. My computer won't wake when I try pressing keys to wake my laptop afterwards. However, it turns on when I press the power button. When it turns on, the apple logo screen with a progress bar appears on the bottom. It also makes the sounds as if my computer is turning on from shut down mode. The progress bar reaches abut 99% and stops there. No matter how long I wait, the laptop is stuck on that screen. I hold the power button, turn off the computer, restart, and it boots up normally. This only happens with the laptop plugged in to be charged. Sleep mode works fine when I am running on battery.
This did occur shortly after upgrading to Mountain Lion, but I don't think this is the cause as it was working fine the day I upgraded it.
I'm not sure what the cause could be, any suggestions?

Stopped using Google Chrome, problem has not occurred again.

  • Re: Won't Go Into Sleep Mode...Ever

Sleep mode no longer seems to work any longer (thus, drastically hastening the drain on the battery). When I press the sleep button, it freezes temporarily. Have seen a number of posts on this issue, but nothing from anyone with a solution or a diagnosis. I've tried all the options, i.e., resetting, etc. with no success.
Too bad that I failed to sign up for the two extra years of AppleCare.

Thought maybe that a complete restore on the iPod would rejigger the sleep mode. Seemed, initially, to fix the problem, but, alas, as it turns out, only temporarily. The problem still persists.
I guess one option is to take it to a Genius Bar and have them run a diagnostic on it.

  • MY new Ipod Nano does not hold a charge.  I use it mostly as a watch, perhaps look at it 5 or 6 times in 8 hours, and leave it in sleep mode the rest of the time.  I drains to the red line in less than 2 days.  My husband's nano will last a week this way.

You are still under warranty if your iPod is "new."  Take full advantage of it by either calling iPod tech support, Apple Care if you have it or take it in to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • My IPOD classic 6 will no longer stay in sleep mode. It's less than 2 years old

My IPOD classic 6th generation will no longer stay in sleep mode and it is less then 2 years old. It is running the battery down because of this. Does anybody know how to fix this issue? I have use the hold button when I put it in sleep mode. I have already restored my IPOD and that only worked temporarily. I've charged my battery fully and synced my IPOD and reset to the original settings my IPOD, but none of them worked.

    Reset your iPod.
Turn the Hold switch on, then off again and then press-and-hold the Menu and Select (centre) buttons at the same time for at least ten seconds. During this time, you should see the Apple logo appear on the iPod. After a while (it could take up to four minutes) the iPod should display the Main Menu screen and it will be ready to go.
Then see if the iPod sleeps correctly. If it doesn't, you may need to Restore the iPod. To do that, connect it to your iTunes Library and by looking at the iPod through iTunes, you will see the Restore button.
Be aware that a Restore will remove all the content from your iPod and (if you if you use Sync to manage your iPod) put back only what is in your Library. If you use Manually Manage, then you will have to manually add back everything that you want to be on the iPod.
If neither of these steps cures the issue, that may suggest a hardware problem.

  • HT201412 My ipod touch (3rd gen) is not responding at all. It wont turn off. It wont go into sleep mode. it wont connect to the computer or anything at all. also does not responed to touch. What do i do to make it work again?

Hi. My ipod touch (3rd gen) will not turn off or resond to anything and will not connect to a computer. the screen will not go into sleep mode and i dont know what to do. help?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
