IPod 5G Freezes During Flight

I have a 60G iPod Video that freezes during flights. I've flown twice now with my iPod and each time it freezes and becomes unuseable until landing. Has anyone encountered this and have a solution?

I would never break that rule...of course those "mean" folks known as attendants are always on the lookout for rule breakers like me! In all seriousness, it happened during climbout on one occasion. But on the previous occasion I didn't pull out my iPod until we were already at altitude and well into our flight.

  • IPod 5G Freezes during Video Playback

iPod freezes during video playback. Does anybody else have this problem?
Usually freezes up about 10 minutes into a video, and then complety locks up. This usually requires 2 to 3 restarts untill it comes back working properly.

Mine does the same. It really only happens to me when I try to navigate thru menus when video is playing. I usually have to do a forced Reset. I truly think that introducing video on the iPod was not ready for primetime as it is very sluggish, buggy and sensitive during playbabck of video. No problems with music whatsoever but I am frustrated with the very finicky video qualities of this thing.

  • My ipod touch freezes during the backup portion of sync...help

Everytime I try to sync my ipod touch it freezes during the backup portion.  Not sure what to do

Go to preferences, devices, and prevent it from syncing automatically.
Disable any and all security/antivirus programs on your computer, restart it, and try to sync it again.
They are most likely interfering with iTunes.
If this does not work, create another user for your computer (as an Administrator), and try to sync your ipod on that user.

  • My iPod keeps freezing during the middle of songs etc.?

My iPod keeps freezing in the middle of songs and even when i plug it into the computer to charge. I've tried to restore it but iTunes rejects it, saying that it has an error. what can I do?

I have an Ipod touch.  Recently it has started stopping in the middle of the songs.  Sometimes it stops completely and sometimes it goes to the next song.
All the songs is it stopping on are recent purchases from Itunes.  A couple of the songs stopped midway while playing them on Itunes.  I did unsync the new songs and then added them again.
I tried the reset mentioned above, but it didn't help.
I have over 3000 songs, I'd like to avoid unsyncing and resyncing if at all possible.
the restore to factory defaults removes all the updates, doesn't it?
    I'd appreciate any help.

  • Ipod Touch freezing during synchronizing

I have a Windows XP SP2 pc. When i connect my Ipod touch to my pc and let it synchronize some mp3 songs or photo's, Itunes freezed after a few seconds, so it has synchronized always 3 or 4 songs instaid of for example 300 songs i selected for synchronize.
    I have reinstalled Itunes 7.5
I have reset my ipod touch and reinstalled the operating system
But what i try it always freezing. So the point is i cant do nothing with my ipod touch at this way. With my ipod 4g clickwheel i have no problems at all during synchronizing.
I have a Windows XP SP2 pc with 1 gb ram and 6 USB 2.0 slots
I have had reinstalled my windows XP last week ago.
    What can be the problem??

    Hi,
have you tried to use another of your USB slots? Are those at the computer or provided via a powered hub? If the latter, try to use one on your computer, probably one on the backside, to make sure no internal hub is used.

  • Help: iPod classic freezing during sync, can't figure out  if this is an iPod or iTunes issue....

I have a 160gb iPod thats barely a year old, been working fine. Earlier today I was putting some music onto my iTunes when I got a software update for iTunes, 10.6.1. I downloaded the update and installed it and what not. I connected my iPod and noticed that it wasnt synching and iTunes froze. I put my computer on hibernate just to disconnect my iPod. I disconnected it and suddenly all my music vanished. I connect my iPod back and again, it won't synch & iTunes freezes. I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it, same problems was happening. I tried uninstalling the updated iTunes and installed the last version to see if that would work. Still nothing resolved.
I ended up restoring my iPod somehow so that it connects to iTunes. I thought I figured it out, it was synching with iTunes and I started the process of putting all 7000 songs back, but during the synch it freezes at some point. I categorize my music by artists, alphabetically. The synch freezes exactly once I get to the letter D. So I have about 1100 songs. I'm going to apple tomorrow to see if they know *** is goin on. Anybody have suggestions tho? This is ****** me the **** off.

First off thanks to all the views and no replies, lots of help....... :sarcasm ended::
anyways, I went to the apple store and they told me the hard drive in the iPod was damaged. If you drop it one too many times, work out with it etc, it takes a tole on the iPod. The hard drive couldnt write the files being transferred through the sync.
So basically, I bought a new iPod and I paid about $120 less.

  • Why does my Ipod keep freezing during Facetime

While using Facetime the screen freezes, its very annoying, any ideas why this can happen?  We have tried turning off all the apps that we are no longer using and turning Ipod off regularly.
    Any other ideas?

Not sure exactly what's going on here, but it might be worth taking a look at this Apple support document describing some of the ports that need to be opened on your router/modem in order for FaceTime to work properly.
    Using FaceTime behind a firewall
There are plenty of other possible reasons you are running into issues, such as hardware or software issues on your iPod Touch device or perhaps with the other user's device on the other end.

  • IPod Touch freezing during restore

I have a 16GB iPod Touch 2nd generation and I am trying to install OS 4.0 and it's been an absolute nightmare. I downloaded the new software (which took quite a while since it kept giving me an error which made me restart the download like 4 times).
So now I'm in the process of actually INSTALLING that software. When I plug my iPod Touch into iTunes it says it sees the iPod is in recovery mode and asks me to restore my ipod (the only option it is allowing me to access is the "Restore" button, so all the "Update" errors are out of the question here).
When I "restore" my iPod however, the process get's about 1/4 of the way through before it freezes and the progress indicator on my iPod AND the progress indicator in iTunes stays at the same place and doesn't move. Even after letting it sit ALL night last night (about 8 hours) it STILL hadn't moved when I woke up this morning.
Any suggestions on how I could fix this?

    I may have a solution...
I phoned Apple Support this evening around 7pm and they were really helpful. My ipod is at least back on - albeit with everything wiped - but it's currently resyncing.
They walked me through these steps:
    1. Quit iTunes (Force Quit if you have to)
    2. Disconnect the ipod from your computer
    3. Create a new user account (I named mine Dummy)
    4. Log out and log in to the new User account
    5. Press and hold the power button on the iPod to turn the thing off - if it doesn't go off, then press the home button briefly as well so that it does.
    6. Open iTunes
    7. reconnect the iPod to your computer and once the usb cable is inserted fully, press the home button on the ipod to switch it on
    8. iTunes should detect the iPod and offer to restore it. Accept the restore option.
    9. iTunes will download the software (took about 10 minutes for me - 315Gb) and then you need to follow the instructions and accept the software license agreement.
    10. In iTunes, you should see the "restoring iPod Software", "verifying iPod software", etc and once done your iPod should run good as new.
Safely disconnect the iPod (make sure you eject it first), log out of the dummy account and back into your regular one. Open iTunes, reconnect your iPod and iTunes should start to restore the iPod from the backup made earlier.
Be patient with that last one if you've got a lot of data backed up!
I really hope this helps others - my backup restoration still hasn't finished yet, but it's looking promising. I performed all this on a MacBook Pro, but from the way the support lady kept thinking I was running Windoze, I guess the same process will work in that OS too.
Oh - and phoning Apple support didn't cost me a penny despite being well outside the 90 days... in fact, because I'd never called them before, they granted me a 45 day warranty and offered me the option of taking out an extended 12 months too (for £39). I haven't taken them up on that yet, but seriously thinking about it - seems cheaper than buying a new iPod...
    Peace

  • 80g iPod Classic freezing during sync

I'm having a very strange problem with my iPod. I tried to sync it yesterday, but itunes said there was a corrupted file on it, and that it needed to be restored. I allowed that, and the restore went through. As itunes began to put my songs back on the ipod, it would freeze within the first hundred songs or so. This keeps happening; the restore works, but the sync freezes it.
I've tried everything. I re-installed itunes on my Mac after deleting every instance of it, I erased the memory on the ipod, I tried putting it into disc mode, I even tried manually putting a few songs at a time on the ipod. All of these result in itunes or the sync process freezing in some way.
Has anyone had any luck with this?

It's possible that your iPod's hard drive has started to fail. Take your iPod and place your right thumb on the centre SELECT button and your left on the top MENU button. Press down both thumbs for about 6 seconds until your iPod reboots. Immediately move your left thumb around to the rewind button |<< on the left and hold this down together with SELECT for a further 6 seconds. Your iPod should now switch into Diagnostic Boot mode. Press MENU for *Manual Test*, then select *IO > HardDrive > HDSMARTData* to reveal your stats. For comparison here are mine for my 2 year old 6th Generation Classic:
    Retracts: 889
    Reallocs: 12
    Pending Sectors: 0
    PowerOn Hours: 2202
    Start/Stops: 894
    Temp: Current 24c
    Temp: Min 10c
    Temp: Max 50c
Take a note of your results. When finished press *SELECT & MENU* for 6 seconds to reset the iPod again.
With modern disc drives sectors are no longer marked bad by a disc scan, if the SMART firmware detects a sector it has trouble accessing it will attempt to invisibly reallocate it to a spare area of the disc.
Note that I've only 12 remapped sectors and none pending. To help explain what the numbers mean here is an extract from the Wikipedia S.M.A.R.T. article:
    *Reallocated Sectors Count*
Count of reallocated sectors. When the hard drive finds a read/write/verification error, it marks this sector as "reallocated" and transfers data to a special reserved area (spare area). This process is also known as remapping, and "reallocated" sectors are called remaps. This is why, on modern hard disks, "bad blocks" cannot be found while testing the surface – all bad blocks are hidden in reallocated sectors. However, as the number of reallocated sectors increases, the read/write speed tends to decrease. The raw value normally represents a count of the number of bad sectors that have been found and remapped. Thus, the higher the attribute value, the more sectors the drive has had to reallocate.
    *Pending sector count*
Number of "unstable" sectors (waiting to be remapped, because of read errors). If an unstable sector is subsequently written or read successfully, this value is decreased and the sector is not remapped. Read errors on a sector will not remap the sector (since it might be readable later); instead, the drive firmware remembers that the sector needs to be remapped, and remaps it the next time it's written.
Large numbers of Reallocs or Pending Sectors would suggest your drive is failing and that you may need to repair or replace your iPod. Check your stats after another attempt to update your iPod. If the numbers increase that again points to hard drive failure. While it won't be good news at least you'll know it isn't some random software problem and you can decide what to do next.

  • Ipod stops/freezes during downloading

I have a click wheel black and white screen ipod. I have had no problems until I took it and tried to download the music from my girls imac g5. I went through all the questions, like you will erase your content and download the new songs etc. It started to download and would get to about 130 songs then stop. I have done the 5r's a zilion times with both of our computers with the same results. When it freezes it still makes noises as if its thinking, and I have also heard repetitive clicking on a time frame of 8 seconds or so. It does download, but only the first 130 songs or so. Can anyone help!

    More info:
    I found a program at download.com called TuneTech (http://prosoftengineering.com/products/tunetech_info.php)
Every time i did a scan on my iPod's hard disk, the scan would lock up once it had gotten to block 114,688
My theory is that's the bad part of the hard drive that files plug up at, kinda like a bottleneck on the freeway... except this isn't a slow down, it's a total lane-blocker!!!

  • IPod Touch freezes during restore

Last night I was on the Maps app (the one that came w/ the iPod) and I was typing in an address then my iPod(2g) flashed a white screen on me and got stuck in an infinite reboot loop (boots up w/ the apple, then flashes a white screen, then reboots). Then I tried restarting it manually and it didn't work. I did the thing where you force into the screen w/ the usb cable into the itunes icon (DFU mode?). I tried restoring it and waited for 3.1.3 to download (I was running 3.1.2 i think) and it was working until it showed the apple w/ an empty loading bar. I unplugged it and replugged it and it didn't do anything so I guess it froze. I put it back into DFU mode(?) and keep trying to restore it, but every time I keep getting a frozen ipod w/ the apple and a frozen "spinning" circle and my itunes giving me the 1603 error. I tried a lot of solutions from the internet like restoring to a previous version, that doesn't work. I tried Apple's troubleshoot page too. My warranty is also over, so... Any thoughts?

When you installed Leopard, did you do a Clean "Archive" install or an upgrade? If you did an upgrade, you may want to consider backing up all of your files and then doing a clean install of Leopard. That usually fixes issues with programs crashing/freezing.
Before you try a clean install of Leopard though, have you tried just reinstalling iTunes?

  • IPod won't sync correctly. iTunes freeze during "Determing Tracks to Sync". Playcounts are a mess now. Please help!'

So since a few months my iPod is starting to get on my nerves. Everytime I try to sync it, my iTunes freezes during the "Determing Tracks to Sync" step. Most of the time it takes a few minutes and then it cancels the sync. I have to sync my ipod atleast 10 times a day to get a song or app on my iPod! One of the most anoyying things tough is, that all playcounts from my iPod sync to my iTunes every time I try to sync. Example: I play Poker Face on my iPod 5 times. I try to sync and my play count says 5 times on my PC. I sync my iPod again and it says 10 times now. It's so anoyying. I restored my iPod already. I removed iTunes and installed it again (And yeah, I deleted it the way Apple wants it). I called Apple and they said I can repair my iPod for 150€, but that's just so much. Any ideas on how to fix my iPod?
    Thank you

    Hello there,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions.
Because you reformatted your computer, your iPod does not recognize the new library because it was synced with the older library you had before reformatting. In order to get the iPod working again, you will have to [Restore|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1339] the iPod via iTunes. Once you have completed that step, try re-syncing the music and see if that helps.

  • My 4th gen ipod won't backup after it froze during a software update to 4.3.5. I had to cancel the backup at the start of the update and now it won't let me backup to my computer, freezes during backup or says my backup is corrupted.

I pressed 'X' during a backup after it froze during an update to software 4.3.5 and now it won't let me backup on my computer. Does anyone have any ideas? It either freezes during backup or says my 'backup is corrupted' or 'I cannot backup on my computer'. I have had to abort quite a few attempted backups since the initial problem, which I think has made it worse. I have already tried restoring my ipod, deleting the aborted backup from my preferences/devices in itunes and deleting it from my user/appdata/etc on my PC hard drive. Any ideas what to try next?

After hours of frustration I eventually decided to restore. I lost my apps, but i didn't have many and was able to reinstall them for free. During the restore it updated my ipod to the latest software 4.3.5, which i think may have caused the initial problem, but the backup issue remains. Sometimes it stops me from syncing and other times it allows me to skip the backup, but still says that i can't backup on my computer. I'm worried that it has done something to my computer as it took me six hours to do a Bullguard scan, which only normally takes about an hour. The scan didn't come up with any viruses, but it stalled at system32 for ages. The only other thing that i can think of is that a demo CD I uploaded may have caused a problem. iTunes couldn't find a track listing for it but gave me a few different options. i thought I had to choose one to continue, so did that then changed the track details to the correct tracks. I'm now worried that may have introduced an issue or caused a glitch in iTunes. How paranoid am I sounding?
