Ipod 5G not updating to software 1.2 error (1413)

So I finally fixed all my iTunes trouble with no help from Apple, but now when I try to update my iPod to the new version 1.2 I get this error. "The iPod "Scott's iPod" could not be updated. An unknown error occured (1413)

We agreed that error 1413 stems from iTunes software (specifically an iPod update .dll file) not being installed properly.

Are you sure you have a 2G? A 1G can only go to 2.1 via iTunes but a 1G can go as high as 3.1.3 that you get here:

To If you do have a 2G that can go to 4.2.1 by:
iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring iOS software
For 4.2.1 you need iTunes version 10.X and that requires OSX 105.8 or later.
If you have 10.4.11 you can only go to iOS 4.1 since that OSX can on go to iTunes 9.X

Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. I have been trying to update my ipod and it has really been making me upset. I try it at least every week, to see if it will work, but it doesn't. I can't even get the apps I want, because my ipod needs to be updated to a iOS 4.3. Everytime I try to update it, I go to devices, then I press update to 4.3 or something like that, and then it's about 30 seconds, and then a message pops up and say,"There is a problem with your connection, try contacting a server, reconnecting the internet, or try again later." The message is related something to that. I try to reconnect, come back later, and it still does the same thing. I am getting very tired of this. I need somebody to PLEASE tell me how to fix this, PPPPPPPLLLLLLEEEEEAASSEEE!!!!! Thank you!

I think the issue is that iTunes (for whatever reason) thinks I have two Apple ID's.
also, to further complicate the issue, when i try updating the apps from my iPod the iTunes store is still recognizing my old hotmail Apple ID. So when I go to enter my password it won't accept because it doesn't match with the old Apple ID, even though it is the same account (just new Apple ID name).
I have tried signing out within the App Store and re-signing in with my Apple ID but it still brings up my old Apple ID name when I try to update.

The "device may need service" means a hardware problem. In that case make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

I have recently been having issues signing into my Apple ID and decided to go in and update my email and change my password.
Since changing my email and password I have been unable to update any of my apps. I receive this error message when trying to update, "You can not update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software."
I have looked into other forums and communities for a solution to this issue but from what I have read iTunes/Apple has yet to figure out a solution.
I have also read that the cause of this issue can be linked to two things.
One, is if you have multiple accounts on one computer. I only have one iTunes account/ Apple ID on this computer. This is my personal laptop and no one else has ever loaded on another account.
The second cause is linked to the country to which the apps were downloaded in. My computer and Apple ID were both created in the US, however 9 months ago I moved to New Zealand on a one year work holiday visa. Since living in New Zealand for the past 9 months I have been buying and updating apps, it wasn't until today when I received this error message.
I would really like to find a solution to this problem, but at the very least I would like to know what exactly caused this issue so that others may hopefully steer clear.

IPod will not update when plugged into computer?

Just recently my iPod with not update when I plug it into my computer. My iPod does not show up on my Mac or my iTunes. When I plug it in the screen shows the do not disconnect sign. I have tried to reset my iPod and checked for new updates, but they haven't worked. If anyone knows what to do that would be great.

Yes. Since I installed the new system software (10.4.6) update Sunday night, I cannot update any of my iPods except the iPod video. The iPods also do not show up on my desktop. The battery charges but that's all that happens.

Hi I had the same problem with my last ipod. i tried all of the steps on the apple support site but none of them worked. I decided to send my ipod in for a repair. Anyway when a week later my ipod came back it was fixed but when i loaded up the computer the disk locked again. I followed through the instructions which said to download the newest software. So i downloaded the new software again and this still didnt work. The last thing i tried to do was to use an old version of an updater so i used (ipod updater 2004-11-15) this ran through the restore process and after completing this, the menu on the ipod loaded up. I then connected to itunes and it allowed it to communicate and transfer the songs

iPod freezes after updating to software version 1.2!!! After installing version 1.2 the "do not disconnect" screen took forever to disappear, so i just removed the cables and it still remained
like that, i restarted it manually, but now it's getting stuck when the apple logo appears...i reset it and when i finnally turns on, and i'm at the language tab, it freezes. can anyone help.!?

Apple just released firmware 1.2.1 for the ipod, you should try restoring your iPod again with that.

I resently changed my computer and intalled ipod n itunes from the CD....But now my ipod is not updating the new songs and i don't know how 2 export the songs i already have in the ipod.

There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Once you have recovered the songs from your iPod and you are happy that everything back is safely back in iTunes then restore the iPod. Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. That often indicates a hardware problem with the iPod, but it can also be caused by security software blocking access to the update. Try this article and see if that helps:
