IPod 5G seems to pause while reading Hard Disk

Would anyone know if the iPod video should play without interuption to the sound? When mine plays it pauses for 1 second, you hear the disk spin up, then the sound starts again. Surely it can load data in the background without pauses?? Can anyone confirm this, or is it a settings prob?
Husky

I'm betting you have the 60GB video iPod, right? (It doesn't affect the 30GB video iPod.)
There is a problem brought on by the 1.1 firmware update that causes some videos to drop the audio shortly after the beginning of the video. Supposedly Apple is aware of it and working on a fix. A solution I found was to hold down the fast-forward arrow, and then come back to the point just before the audio drop.

If you have problems using the sample form then follow these steps to make your own
    follow these steps...

  • Ipod Classic 80Gb regularly pauses while locked.

    Hi there,
I've had this iPod classic for I think roughly 3-4 years now, but recently it's started to pause itself, sometimes every few seconds, requiring me to take ipod out of pocket, unlock, press play.
It's always locked while in my pocket, headphones aren't loose and I've connected iPod to iTunes and restored to mfactory defaults but still the problem remains.
Oh, and when it's connected to my speakers at home, it play's totally fine. Won't pause at all throughout a number of hours, yet in my pocket (this morning especially) it must have paused about 2-3 times each song.
    Help is greatly appreciated

Sounds like the headphone detect mechanism has gone faulty. You might want to consider a third party repair service.

  • G550 seemingly broken - would a new hard disk be solution?

    I have a Lenovo G550 which used to work fine ( purchased 2010 ).
Last few weeks it started making really loud noises - like the hard drive was spinning round almost maniacally and wheezing.
Anyway it still worked, but slower than normal.
Today it just sort of closed down after a few minutes - just went to a blank, black screen as if power turned off.
I restarted but the same thing happened after a few minutes.
Is this something which could be repaired by just replacing the hard drive?
Are they still available for this model  ( 2958 it states on the underside ) ?
Although it is an old laptop now I have no desire to replace if not necessary : I like the fact of the large screen, and also that it has a DVD drive which modern laptops often do not have.
    All suggestions gratefully received.........

    hi jonblane,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I'm sorry to hear what happened...
We must need to identify first what casued it before jumping on replacing parts.
Right now what come up your screen when you turn it ON
If it is just blank then it may not be the harddrive.
    What you can try
Try Removing the Hard Driv and the RAM of the system you can check this link out.
Try checking the RAM slots and make sure the ram is seated ok, also try the other RAM slot, Try turning the system on without the Harddrive and if it is really the Harddrive your computer should show something even without the Hard Drive and it should show you like an error of not finding a bootable device.

  • Itouch pauses while playing...

My Ipod touch will just pause while it's playing and the volume bar with go up and down, and tell me that I'm using my headphones when I'm really not. What's wrong with it?

It sounds like there are issues with the headphone jack internals.
As your most likely aware, the volume has two setting, one with the headphones plugged in, and one using the built in speaker.
The switch inside the headphone jack is probably defective.

  • Using ipod as external hard disk between macbook and PC

    Hello
I have formatted my ipod mini to the mac, but I also have a PC at home which I want to transfer files to and from. Can the ipod still be used as an external hard disk between the macbook and the PC or is that not possible?
    Thanks

If your iPod is formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because the Windows OS does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive. XPlay for instance gets good reviews and has the added functionality to let you copy your songs back to iTunes. MacDrive from the same company is not iPod specific it's for connecting any Mac formatted drives, if you want to use your iPod as a removable storage device it will work for that. You can get XPlay and MacDrive at these links:

  • Snow Leopard and hard disk problems?

This may just be a coincidence but I and several colleagues have had problems with Macs over the past week.
    a) My Macbook Pro lost the date/time and wi-fi settings. Next reboot wi-fi was still lost. Now seems OK again.
    b) At times my 24" iMac is running slowly when nothing seems to be hogging resources (eg just copying a 3Gb file to an external hard disk). Time Machine also seems to be taking much longer to backup.
    c) Hard disk failed on a Macbook Pro of a colleague
    d) iMac 27" seems to be having severe hard disk problems for another colleague - Applecare will be visiting after trying numerous fixes over the phone.
On my machines I have run the Cocktail suite (permissions, scripts and caches) Disk Utility Repair and Techtools Deluxe (no reported problems) but the iMac problems seem to creep back.
It is like a disk caching process (or Spotlight?) is not cleaning up properly and is clagging up the system. Or maybe a hard disk is close to failure but the problem is not severe enough to show up in diagnostics? In any case I am diligent about backing up at the moment!

  • MacBook Pro hard disk noise, froze and wont boot

I was using my MacBook Pro and it froze at the same time I could hear the hard drive cracking. The following are guesses because of the sounds I was hearing: While the hard disk made cracking noises, it would stop spining. Then it started to spin again and another crack would stop the spining.
I held down the power button to shut down and now it wont boot. I can hear the same type of noises I described before.
    Thanks for the help

Based on your comments, your HDD is dead.  Get a new one, larger and faster if can afford it and swap in your MBP.  You will have to reinstall your OS and I hope you have a back up of your data.

  • HT4528 I can't seem to sync my iPhone with iTunes.  I keep getting this message:  iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because an error occurred while reading from this device.  What can I do?

I can't seem to sync my iPhone to my computer; I keep getting this message:  "iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because an error occurred while reading from this device."  I get the same message with my iPad, even though they all share the same account.  What can I do?

This could be caused by a USB connection issue. Make sure the iPhone is directly connected to the Mac using the USB cable it came with. Also, try disconnecting all other USB devices.
If you haven't already try resetting the iPhone by holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see an Apple logo as described here:http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305743
