Ipod 5G video- Fails to charge- please offer advice

Hi, I have an iPod video 5G which was working perfectly until recently, when i didn't use it for a week; when i went to charge it again it simply showed "Please wait very low battery" against a dark background- i.e. not back-lit- for four whole days. without getting enough charge to turn on.
Once plugged into a wall charger however, it turned on instantly showing full battery- and didn't charge at all. I could then unplug it (having got it to turn on using wall charger power- avoiding the 3 second image of a empty battery I normally now get when trying to turn on)) and it stayed on for the normal running time, with full brightness and no backlight timer.
i have no music on it as i have tried multiple resets- getting to disk mode by starting up on the wall charger.
I have tried everything suggested on the support page, the ipod has never left the case i got for it a year ago, i have the most up to date itunes, I am using USB 2.0- on a port I know i can charge it on, and i have the same problem with other computers. The battery can't be dead because it stays on for hours after booting whilst on a charger...
Can anyone recommend anything?
Would buying a new battery fix this??
Thanks for any helpful ideas...

Whenever I had a problem, mine use to freeze up and I couldn't do anything with it, even a reset wouldn't work, I would plug it into the wall charger and left it plugged for hours (because when first plugging it nothing would happen) and finally it reset itself and went into the normal charge. I don't know about loosing the music.

  • IPod won't connect and charge--Please Help

hey all. I've had my video iPod for a while. Here's the problem: it was recently connected to a random windows PC, and now it won't work. It was fully charged last I knew, and when I tried to use it it wouldn't turn on. Rather than doing that, it would show the apple logo, then light up, then turn off and one of the two battery charge signals would appear (those being the large one and the smaller more modern looking one). I've connected it to two other computers, one being a windows laptop, and I've recently realized that the computer (any of the three) no longer realizes that there is a hardware connected. If anyone can please help I'd greatly appreciate it.

I hav a 30g video ipod aswell and am having a similar problem. I connected it to a friends computer who did not have I tunes and it my ipod froze and has never connected to my computer since. This was about 6 months ago. It will not charge on my computer, in fact my computer does not even recognize that there is anything connected to it.
I have tried resetting but that has done nothing, if anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them. Thanks!

  • ITunes Library is lacking space. And my iPod Apps are failing on me, please help!

My problem is with my Apple iPod Touch White 8GB iOS 5 (purchased December 2011)
I am wanting to erase all data on this iPod because its freezing alot and lots of Apps are opening for 2 seconds before returning to the home screen. So before I would delete all data I would now try and Transfer Purchases but it then said that there is not enough room in the iTunes Library. I deleted some albums and films and there was plenty of room, so when I clicked again, it also said there is not enough space (and that was for 6.4GB of content) so I did not know what to do. Is there any way of doing it different? And can I also have help with why my Apps are freezing or not working.
    Thanks,
      Nisar Khan

From the error message it might be the the hard disk on the computer does not have enough free space.  Try freeing up disk space by first emptying the recycle bin.

  • External iSight not working properly, please offer advice

I purchased an original iSight after having problems with my USB cam. I just did a clean install of Leopard on my mac pro. The USB cam would get errors in iChat such as "Camera in use by another application, etc).
I uninstalled the iChatUSBcam software, checked the Library/quicktime folder, etc.
I hooked up the iSight and it seemed to work, then the video went a bit haywire. I thought it was just a glitch, but when I tried to video chat, the other user could not hear my voice. I checked the System pref sound input and it was on the iSIght, but the meter was not responding properly.
I thought it may be a hardware issue, so I tested the iSight on my mac mini (G4) - It worked perfectly.
I have uninstalled iChat and reinstalled it from the Leopard disk. Still no go...
    Does anyone have any thoughts?

    Hello mlevack
You have tried a lot of things. Here are a few ideas you can consider.
    (0) Check for possible hardware or software conflicts.
    (1) With all unnecessary peripherals disconnected, try any suggestions you have not yet used from How to test your iSight to ensure it is functional.
    (2) Try testing with some of the computer saavy human testers in Ralph John's list of Contact Testers. I know the page says for iChat 2.1 and 3.x, but you should be able to test with them. Ralph and some of the others also have iChat 4 if testing with that becomes necessary.
    (3) If you are willing, post your chat name in your Biography or some other location in your Public Profile, and I will try to contact you for a test when I am on-line.

  • Would someone please offer advice on my Vault problem?

I am reposting this earlier plea for help:
I recently purchased a 1TB LaCie external HD to accommodate my growing Library. Aperture accepted it as a Vault and 315GB were successfully transferred to the Vault. Today I tried backup to the Vault, but Aperture keeps telling me that no vault is connected. The Finder recognizes the Vault: I checked to ensure that it is unlocked. I quit and restarted Aperture. I shut down and rebooted the Mac Pro Quad.
But Aperture refuses to recognize the Vault.
I would be grateful for any suggestions.
Mac Pro Quad-Core Intel Xeon Mac OS X (10.6.3)

Susan, one thing you mentioned that makes me wonder if it's related: you said the Vault was unlocked. It should normally be locked by Aperture. Did you unlock it in the Finder?
I suppose the Update Vault Path option is greyed out in the Vault panel in Aperture (click on the gear icon to reveal). If it is not greyed out you may only need to reset the path to the Vault on the LaCie drive.
How is your LaCie drive formatted? It should be partitioned as GPT (GUID Partition Table) and formatted HFS+ (Mac OS Extended Journaled).
Two possible but improbable solutions suggested on other threads:
    1) You may have a problem with the Aperture Library, not the Vault. I assume you are running Aperture version 3.0.2 when you did the original Vault creation. Quit Aperture. Restart while holding down the OPTION and COMMAND keys. You'll be presented with a panel - select Repair Database (or one of the other options perhaps may do the trick). After your database is repaired, try to update the Vault.
    2) Reinstall or update the driver for the LaCie drive.
    Post back your results.

  • Screen has been saying "charging please wait" for days

My 160g Ipod Classic shows the screen: Charging, Please Wait..."
I charged my ipod overnight in a wall charger and my mac and it did not turn on.
I left it charging throughout the day but when ever I look at it it still says charging please wait.
Does anyone know a solution to this problem?

    Hello jwert88,
    And welcome to  Discussions!
It sounds like the battery is shot. You can have it replaced by Apple or third party repair company at a much lower cost or you could always replace it yourself.
A Google search for iPod battery replacement should give you a plethora of results.

My iPod does not update it self in iTunes. I click on the "update the latest version for your iPod" and it fails. Please help me.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPod video won't charge; first time charging

Hey all, I got a video ipod for my birthday and i have plugged it into my computer (via usb) for about six days since I've got it. My computer is on, not asleep, active, connected to the internet... I can download stuff from Itunes, etc, but for some reason, even though it SAYS that its charging and has the little picture of the battery charging, whenever I unplug the usb from the computer and the actual battery icon shows up at the top right hand corner of the screen, its about 1/4th full (and red) and it never gets fuller. Ever.
What's going on? Can someone help me? I JUST got this and I'd be so sad if I couldn't ever use it!!!

One thing which may help is to let the iPod sit for 24-30 hours in a cool spot without any attempt to use it or charge it. See if it has run all the way down and once it has, try a 4-hour recharge using the AC adapter.
At my web site, The iPod Battery Unplugged, I am trying to offer good advice on this, but there's not enough data yet.
If those having trouble could specify whether their iPod battery was run down very low just prior to this problem occurring, that would be very helpful.

  • My ipod wont charge right and is telling me to charge please wait

I wonder if any of you can help me. My 160 GB ipod classics battery doesnt appear to be charging, and now it simply wont connect to the pc or itunes. When i plug it into the pc it comes up with the battery at red, a caution sign infront of the battery and it reads charging please wait. When i unplug it from the pc it says connect to power so this leads me to believe that it isnt the wire itself. I have tried charging it with a plug (with the same wire as it was needed for the plug) and again it says charging please wait. I've left it in for an hour at a time. This happened yesterday but eventually it retained some small charge and allowed me to listen to it for 3 hours. The battery was fine this week and last week. Does anyone know whether there is something i can do to try and fix this problem

    Hello joan marie\'s ipod,
Thank you for the question.  You can safely eject your iPod using these steps:
    To eject iPod:
Select your iPod in the iTunes Source list.
Click the eject icon next to the iPod in the Source list or choose Eject iPod from the Controls menu.
You can find these steps and additional ways to eject your iPod in the following article:

  • 30 GIG Video iPod, Video Options not available - Please help!

    Hi.
I have a 30 GIG iPod Video 5th gen, with the latest iPod updater software installer on it.
But when I look at the iPod preferences, when it's plugged in via USB, all Video options (manual vs automatic etc) are all greyed out and not available for selection.
And I can't drag any videos onto the iPod (even with the right video format!).
It's like the iPod itself doesn't recognised that it is an Video one, like it has a complex and can only deal with music and photos.
Can anyone help or offer advice?
    Anyone had a similar problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for your help guys.
Even with the iPod set to manual, I couldn't drag iPod format videos directly onto it.
Did a factory restart, and it has fixed the problem.
And just a note; the options in the video tab will always be greyed out, when the iPod is set to manually update songs.
    cheers!

Try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod
if still problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
I suspect you have a hardware problem.

  • Plug in my ipod classic stays on Charging please wait for a few seconds then turns off

i plug it in on wall charger and computer and its says charging please wait for a couple of seconds and then the screen turns black dosent work for like a day the i plug it in after a day it does the same thing please help its a black ipod classic 120 gb

Have you tried charging it with another known working USB sync cable?  After letting it sit to "charge" for at least 30 minutes, have you tried resetting the device by pressing and holding both the Select/Center and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

my ipod nano 7th generation....works fine as long as it's on the docking station. when off the station, the display goes dark after a few seconds. it's fully charged. please help. this is the heartbeat of my business. thanks

In the worst case, it's still under warranty (all 7th gen nanos are still under one year from purchase).
So, you disconnect it from power, and it almost immediately goes dead?  You can try a Restore... but it doesn't sound like the type of problem a Restore will fix.
You should probably have it looked by Apple Tech Support.  If there's an Apple Store nearby, you can take it to the store's Genius Bar.  To avoid waiting, you can make a reservation at the store's web page
