IPod (5th Gen) and Windows Vista 64 bit

I have heard that X64 Vista will crash if I add my iPod to the system. True? Thanks!

I don't have direct experience, but these Apple articles may provide the answer

(which appears to be NO as long as you have the latest version of iTunes).

Not without installing additional software on your computer.  The problem is that your Windows PC cannot read the Mac's disk format.  If the iPod was previously used on a Mac, its storage uses the Mac's disk format.  The Restore process reformats the iPod's disk for use with Windows, but this erases its current content.
There are third-party products that allow Windows to read the Mac's disk format.  For example
    http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive
However, even if your computer is able to read the Mac's disk format, iTunes cannot be used to transfer song files from iPod to computer (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store).  But there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
So, you may be able to do it by first making the iPod's disk readable on a Windows PC, and then using a method (that is not iTunes) to transfer its song files to your computer's drive.  After the song files are on your computer, you can add them to the iTunes library.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

I have the iPod 5th gen. and my iPod wont connect to my wifi. I've tried everything. i rest my wifi networks and it still wont work. What do I do??

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tend to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • IPod 5th generation and Windows Media Player

I just got an iPod 5th gen. for my b-day and have a ton of music on Windows Media Player that I want to put on the iPod. When I try to sync, Windows Media Player says to "connect device". I plug in the Ipod but it still says to connect the device. Is the iPod compatible with the Windows media Player or just iTunes? If I can't do this, then how do I purchase and store music on iTunes and keep it all separate from my wife's music?...she has her own iPod and iTunes account with her own music and DOES NOT WANT my "crappy" music mixed with hers. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

No, iPods are NOT compatible with Windows Media Player. There are a variety of other third party programs that are compatible with an iPod, but I would not recommend using them for a number of reasons.

There are several different ways for handling multiple iPods with one computer. One option is to create an entirely new and separate iTunes library. The only downfall to this, is that you will have to manually choose which library to open upon opening iTunes each time. For more help and information regarding these methods, check out this Apple support document.

    You may have to:L
Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall.
    - Next try the manual install method of:
iDevice Troubleshooting 101 :: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch
Place the iPod in recovery mode after the firmware download is complete and then restore using the instructions in the article. Sometimes recovery mode timeouts and returns to disabled before the firmware download is complete.

  • Can't connect my iPod classic 5th gen to Windows Vista

I bought an iPod Classic 30gb off of Ebay and I can't get it to connect to my computer. My Computer runs off Windows Vista and I've tryed everything. I tryed reinstalling my Itunes with the newist verson. Even tryed puting it in disc mode. The Ipod and cord works fine and the iPod is formatted for windows. It dosen't show up on the computer any were, not even as a unknown USB or anything like that. I know the cord work cause the Ipod charges when I plug it in. I even tried to get the iPod to work on my bother's windows XP but it still didn't connect. Please Help! If need any more info ask.

Most likley, why the person is trying to ge rid of it.
Do the iPod Disk Diagnostic as posted earlier by tt2, it wont solve your problem, but helps in troubleshooting.
For others reading this I would also suggest getting the HDSmartdata before buying any pre-owned iPod Classic.

  • Trouble with Differences between iPod 5th Gen and "Classic"

I have the 30 GB 5th Gen iPod. The iTunes software was easy to use in creating playlists and viewing my music on my device. I recently bought an 80 GB Classic and cannot create a playlist on my device. It always creates it in my library. I also cannot get the browser view to show up when on my 80 GB device. Everything was easy with the 5th Gen but I am finding the differences in navigating the software very tough. Please help.
P.S. The new iPod always wants to sync when I connect even though I am pretty sure I told the program not to auto sync. I cannot get past the syncing screen without clicking on the sync button.

It sounds like you need to adjust your settings.
    1. Open iTunes on your computer.
    2. Connect your iPod to the computer.
    3. As soon as the iPod shows on the sidebar, look at the summary tab options to make sure that the Manually manage music and videos is checked if you want to manually load the iPod. A window should open to ask if you are sure you want to change the setting to manual. Answer Yes. If you want to auto sync, leave this item unchecked.
If you have unchecked items in the main library (duplicate songs, etc) and do not want them to load into the iPod, make sure the item Sync only checked songs and videos is marked. If you change this setting, look for the Sync button at the lower right corner to change to two buttons Cancel and Apply. Click on Apply. It is always important to click apply after you finish making changes to the iPod settings.
    4. If you manually Sync, with your mouse you can drag and drop the playlists you want to load in the iPod from the sidebar. Highlight the playlist you want. Hold the left mouse button down as it is highlighted and move the mouse to cover the iPod device and release the mouse button. The playlist and songs should begin loading.
    5. Alternately, when looking at the device, switch to the music tab. Change the setting to Sync Music - Selected Playlists. Then check off the playlists you want to load. If you do this, and have the default AutoSync set on the Summary Tab, the playlists will automatically be updated when the iPod is connected. Depending on your personal preferences or space needs, uncheck Include Music Videos or Display Album Artwork on iPod.
    6. Make sure that you click APPLY to apply the settings to the iPod after making changes to the various menus. If you do not apply the settings, the iPod will retain the default settings.
    7. Note that you will have to re-enter all your settings and apply if you have Restored the iPod (delete all content and reinstall operating software). In a Restore, the iPod settings are also reset to the Apple factory defaults.
    Hope this helps!

  • I lost my iPod (5th Gen) and I need to find it!

    Hello,
Today I lost my iPod Touch (5th Gen) at school, I have an idea of who has it but I cannot ask until Monday and plus, the person isn't the most trustworthy person. Anyway, it has iOS 7 installed, I was using earlier today, I have tried using iCloud to locate it but all I got was "All Devices Offline". Any help whatsoever to find it would be AMAZING! If I can get it to make a loud sound in case I misplaced it, or how to leave a message? If I require an iPhone I can use my mum's iPhone 4.
    Many thanks in advance!

    No app is required.
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound and display a message via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the APple ID and password to restore the device.

hi all ive just bought an ipod 5th generation off ebay and it has find my ipod on it is there anyway off me getting around it as the seller isnt replying

No; the activation lock is an anti-theft measure, and Apple won't help anyone other than the original owner(assuming they're alive) bypass it.
    Ask eBay for a refund.

  • I dragged an app the the bottom of my iPod (5th gen) and now it has completely disappeared. The only way to open it is to search it. Does anyone know how to make it appear again or to fix this problem?

    Can someone please help?

    Hi Festigeo,
When you do a spotlight search, does it show the App in a Folder? If not, then carefully check all of your Home Screens to see if you can locate it. Is it a standard Apple App, or one you purchased?
    Cheers,
